Re: [Users] Ovirt 3.1 and gluster (creation in ovirt)

2012-06-21 Thread Robert Middleswarth
I got it to mount. I opened a Bugzilla report on it.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=834486

These are the workaround steps I did and from looking at the code I see
were the issue is. I was correct the volumes are being mounted
readonly. My workaround basicly chown the entire volume folder and that
copies to all shares. I am guessing if the volume creation code or the
mounting code attempts to chown own the folder the problem will go away.

Workaround

1. Attempt to create a new sharefs domain.
2. After it errors out.
3. SSH into the box that failed.
4. chown -R 36.36 /rhev/data-center/mnt/
5. Reattempt to create the same sharefs domain.
6. This time it works.
7. Enjoy.

Thanks
Robert

I'm sorry for your persistence, but I'm trying to mount gluster storage not NFS
storage.
Such a document is to gluster storage?

How can I see what line ovirt considered invalid in the file metadata?

Hm, looks like it but that doesn't seem to be available for the regular

Agreed that this would be most welcome - I sent off the agenda from LC
Japan to the Linux Foundation so we had something to display on the
conference site to encourage folks to register.

What are topics that the other list members would like to see us
present? Present themselves?

As Mike stated earlier, LinuxCon North America takes place in San Diego,
California, US on 29-31 August. The oVirt workshop takes place the day
before the conference proper begins, on Tuesday, 28 August.

Everything above here (except the download) can be accomplished using
livecd-tools.

livecd-iso-to-pxeboot ovirt-node-iso-2.4.0-1.1.fc17.iso

This will create ./tftpboot for you.

[Users] Converting a node iso to PXE

2012-06-21 Thread Olivier Doucet
Hello everyone,

I've written a very quick howto for people wanting to boot
ovirt-node-iso via iPXE. Maybe I could put it somewhere in the wiki ?

First, download the iso file. I've tried with a beta version of ovirt ;)
wget "http://ovirt.org/releases/beta/binary/ovirt-node-iso-2.4.0-1.1.fc17.iso";

Create a mountpoint :
mkdir iso

Mount image on it :
mount -o loop ovirt-node-iso-2.4.0-1.1.fc17.iso iso

Extract needed files with provided script :
./iso/LiveOS/livecd-iso-to-pxeboot ovirt-node-iso-2.4.0-1.1.fc17.iso

You now have a ./tftpboot folder.

Put files "tftpboot/vmlinuz0" and "tftpboot/initrd0.img" somewhere
publicly available via HTTP for example.

Don't forget to unmount iso/ folder and delete unused files ;)

Open file tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default and copy all flags in APPEND
line, and append it to 'kernel' line in pxe output. This is an example
of what needs to be outputed by ipxe script :

[ start ipxe script ]---
#!ipxe
kernel http://path/to/vmlinuz0 rootflags=loop initrd=initrd0.img
root=live:/ovirt-node-iso-2.4.0-1.1.fc17.iso rootfstype=auto ro
liveimg nomodeset check rootflags=ro crashkernel=512M-2G:64M,2G-:128M
elevator=deadline install quiet rd_NO_LVM rd.luks=0 rd.md=0 rd.dm=0
initrd http://path/to/initrd0.img
boot
[ end ipxe script ]---

Now power on your server and boot on iPXE : iso file is entirely
loaded through the network. You now have to follow install script, or
modify kernel line to add custom parameters.

I'd like to collect feedback from everyone on last week's oVirt

Once we have gathered feedback on list, I'll capture it on the oVirt
wiki. We can then use what we've learned to help construct the agenda
and other plans for other upcoming oVirt workshops at LinuxCons. [1]

If you know that you would like to volunteer as an instructor for
future workshops or would like to suggest alternate content for the
workshop, please include that in your feedback.

- Course Material
What sessions were most well received? Which ones require improvement?
Any additional sessions we'd suggest?

- Audience Participation
How many attendees? How did the Q&A periods go? Would we like to
prepare a post-event attendee survey? (I recommend we do the survey
and can prepare some questions for the group if that's useful.)

- Developer/user traction resulting from engaging at workshop
Did this workshop help us to gain new developers or users? Reinforce
relationships with existing community members?

- Promotion of the event, both before and after
What could be done to more effectively promote the event prior to the
workshops? Videos and slides from the workshop should be posted on the
LC Japan site tomorrow; what action would the community like to take
to promote this content?

- A/V and Room Set up
Did the seating arrangements work well for the workshop format? Did
the A/V work well, including the videotaping process?

- Food and beverage
Did the catered in lunch help to keep the flow of the workshop
productive? Was the food of good quality and in keeping with the needs
of attendee dietary constraints?

- Give aways
We did not produce attendee gifts for the oVirt workshop. Thoughts on
whether this would be a welcome addition in the future? Suggestions
for type of gift also welcome.

- Any other feedback

That's right -- I've encountered that issue, too, but there's a fix for it.

This is a different issue, other distros are installing normally for me.

provision and 40Gb is maximum not actual), but webadmin and engine cli show
that disk size is not changed and is 30Gb

then i tried to update disk size using engine cli "update disk --size" and
got following

However it is worth mentioning that VM networks should generally not
have an IP address (or gateway) of their own. At best, they serve as
layer-2-only entities. Putting the management network in one subnet and
VMs on a different one, makes a lot of sense.

And a serious one, that hinders the usability of non-VM networks, and
which I consider an oVirt-3.1 release blocker

 Bug 834281 - [vdsm][bridgeless] BOOTPROTO/IPADDR/NETMASK options are
 not set on interface

ok, so this is still not available in fedora based on the last comment:
From #gluster i figure that fuse still does not support O_DIRECT From
linux-fsdevel, it looks like patches to enable O_DIRECT in fuse are just
getting in.

vijay - any estimation on when this may be available?

For the record - we've tested this on Ofer's machine and found an old
yum repo with vdsm-4.9.3 or something, which hidden this bug from many
of us red-hatters.

Thanks for reporting! The fix would be available in the next beta build.

OK so apparently it works if you're using a "VM network", but if your
network is not for VMs then it's indeed a bug. I have filed the bug
for VDSM:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=834205

As I mentioned, you can set these options manually on the ifcfg files
until the bug is fixed.

Mike

[Users] Two updates from the oVirt team

2012-06-21 Thread Ofer Schreiber
Hey everyone,

There are two updates I'd like to share with you:
1. oVirt 3.1 release date has been delayed to the 9th of July.
As you all know, We're in the middle of creating a new build of oVirt.
With your help, we found multiple issues which we consider as release blockers.
Some of these issues require a few days to be solved properly, and as a result,
we had to delay the general availability of oVirt.

2. New ovirt-engine rpms are available for download at
http://ovirt.org/releases/beta/fedora/17
This build contain multiple bug fixes, as well as a new versioning schema,
which will ensure future updates will be done correctly.
Please note, that due to the new versions, we don't support in-beta upgrade.
please make sure you clean up you environment (using engine-cleanup, and yum
remove) before installing the new rpms (version
3.1.0-0.1.20120620git6ef9f8.fc17)
New VDSM rpms should be available in the beginning of next week).

Regards,
