Christophe,

Where is the engine running? Did you use one of NFSs for hosted-engine?

Thank you

Hi,

Re: [ovirt-users] 3.6 looses network on reboot

2016-03-03 Thread David LeVene
Hi Nir,

Thanks for your help. I’m going to start up another thread as to not pollute
what this thread was initially about.

I’ll test your patch, and I suspect it’s the gluster version that is causing
the problem as I did update the host.

When I create the thread I’ll make sure to include everyone already present (It
might be a week or so, as my time Is limited atm)

Cheers
David

We have this logs before the exception:

MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/3::DEBUG::2016-03-03
11:02:42,945::utils::669::root::(execCmd) /usr/bin/taskset --cpu-list 0-39
/usr/sbin/gluster --mode=script volume info --re
mote-host=ovirtmount.test.lab data --xml (cwd None)

The command looks correct

MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/3::DEBUG::2016-03-03
11:02:43,024::utils::687::root::(execCmd) FAILED:  = '\n';  = 2

gluster command line failed in an unhelpful way.

(Adding Sahina)

David, can you try to run this command manually on this host? maybe there is
some
--verbose flag revealing more info?

You may also try a simpler command:

gluster volume info --remote-host=ovirtmount.test.lab data

Another issue you should check - gluster version on the hosts and on the
gluster nodes *must*
match - otherwise you should expect failures accessing gluster server.

We have this patch for handling such errors gracefully - can you test it?

You are most welcome to share your logs (preferably on a different thread, to

The fix has been proposed to ovirt-3.6.4. I'll make sure it's accepted.

May I tap to what your IPv6 experience? (only if you feel confortable sharing
this publically). What does these IPv6-only servers do? What does the guest do
with them?

-- The group I work with has implemented dual stack & if a v4 address is not
required.. it's not given.. The IPv6 servers will run an application of some
kind.. could be a webserver, anything really. As they sit behind LB's they
handle the v4 If required. My personal opinion only: is that it's too much
hassle for what its worth at this point and I'd prefer it if we only used v4/v6
address's at the entry points and v4 internally or all dual stack.
-- My option is based on the fact that I've come across too many pieces of
software that require tweaking, &/or additional configuration &/or special
compilation to enable it. It also adds an addition layer of complication when
troubleshooting applications if v6 isn't working and there's no v4 address to
test on.
-- A recent example.. downloads.ceph.com advertises v4 and v6 address. On an
IPv6 only host it fails to connect to the repo because the v6 address fails..
and there's a V4 address so NAT64 isn't performed. This breaks yum.
Workaround.. fd64::IPv4 Address.

All I see is this

MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/4::ERROR::2016-03-03
MainProcess|11:15:04,699::supervdsmServer::118::SuperVdsm.ServerCallback

which tells me very little. Please share your vdsm.log and gluster logs
(possibly /var/log/messages as well) to understand what has happened.
Make sure to include sabose at redhat.com on the thread.
In the past we heard that network disconnections causes glusterd to crash, so
it might be the case again.

[ovirt-users] Importing VMs into Cinder backend

2016-03-03 Thread Bond, Darryl
Is there a recommended way to import a VM from Vmware into oVirt with Cinder
back end?

I have successfully created an image in the oVirt Import domain using virt-v2v.
The image can be imported into NFS storage and works fine.

I can create new VMs with disks in the Cinder storage.

There does not seem to be any way of either:

a) Import directly into the cinder storage (regardless if the import has raw or
qcow disks

b) Move a disk from NFS storage into cinder

Did you start the guest agent service? How to start it depends on your guest
OS. Also make sure to have it auto start on boot of the VM, again the

[ovirt-users] Multi-node cluster with local storage

2016-03-03 Thread Pavel Gashev
Hello,

I'd like to ask community, what is the best way to use oVirt in the
following hardware configuration:

Three servers connected 1GB network. Each server - 32 threads, 256GB
RAM, 4TB RAID.

Please note that a local storage and an 1GB network is a typical
hardware configuration for almost any dedicated hosting.

Unfortunately, oVirt doesn't support multi-node local storage clusters.
And Gluster/CEPH doesn't work well over 1G network. It looks like that
the only way to use oVirt in a three-node cluster is to share local
storages over NFS. At least it makes possible to migrate VMs and move
disks among hardware nodes.

Does somebody have such setup?

Thanks

What happens when I'll restart vdsm ? Will oVirt storages go to
"disable " state ??? = disconnect VMs storages ?

Nothing will happen, the vms will continue to run normally.

On block storage, stopping vdsm will prevent automatic extending of vm
disks
when the disk become too full, but on file based storage (like
gluster) there is no issue.

Following yesterday's pre-launch email[1], I'm happy to announce that
the new ovirt.org[2] website is now live in **public beta** and
available for community review.

All the information in this email is also available in the first blog
post of our shiny new oVirt blog[3]. Read on for information about new
features, known issues, and a call for reviews.

The old MediaWiki site is still available in read-only[4], and will be
taken offline on **March 1, 2016**. This is to ensure that you can
compare pages and review migrated content.

What's New
==

The new Website is full of improvements and enhancements, check out
these highlights:

* Source content is now formatted in Markdown instead of MediaWiki.
This means that you can create and edit documentation, blog posts, and
feature pages with the same Markdown syntax you know.

* The Website is deployed with Middleman and stored on GitHub. This
means that you can make changes to content with the same GitHub
contribution workflow that you know (fork, clone, edit, commit, submit
pull request). We even have an "Edit this page on GitHub" link at the
bottom of every page!

* New layout and design, from breadcrumbs to sidebards and an upgraded
landing page. (This is still WIP, please see known issues.)

* Automatic redirects from the old MediaWiki site. This means that if
the wiki page exists in the new website, previously-released URLs will
redirect to that page. If the page was removed, the Search page will
open with the page title auto-filled in the search box.

* Hierarchical content structure. This means that instead of flat
Wiki-style files, the deployed Website reflects an organized source
repo with content sorted into directories and sub-directories.

* Official oVirt blog! Our new blog welcomes contributions. This means
that if you solved a problem with oVirt, want to share your oVirt
story, or describe a cool integration, you can submit a pull request
with a blog post and we will provide editorial reviews and help
publish your posts.

* Standardized contribution process. The GitHub repo now includes a
README.md[5] file that you can use to learn about how to add and edit
content on the website. We welcome pull requests!

Known Issues

Despite our best efforts, there are still a few kinks with the new
website that you should be aware of:

* Attempting to navigate to ovirt.org (without www.) leads to a
redirect loop. We have a ticket open with OpenShift, our hosting
service to fix this.

* Only http is available. We also have a ticket with OpenShift to add
SSL and enable https.

* Home page and Download page are still being upgraded by our UX
experts, expect some cool new changes soon!

* Feature pages look-and-feel is still under construction. You can
still edit and push feature pages as usual.

What's Next
===

Even though the Website is live, the work is hardly over. We'd like to
ask for your help in:

* Reviewing content for anything obsolete or outdated (each page in
the new website includes a header toolbar with metadata from the
original wiki page for your convenience)

* Submitting blog posts or any other content that you wish to share
with the oVirt community

* Reporting bugs and proposing enhancements, for example broken links
or missing pages

We hope you will enjoy the new oVirt Website, looking forward to your
feedback and contributions!

Did you use ovirt-iso-uploader?

Sometimes iso files with uppercase ".ISO" doesn't show up in the list.
Try re-upload them with lowercase filename.

I know that ISOs downloaded from MS habitually are all uppercase names.

Just a guess, but could it be that the installed Windows onlhy
supports 4 processors [1]?

If not, could you share the domain xml of the running VM?

Re: [ovirt-users] some ISO images not recognized

2016-03-03 Thread Stefano Cislaghi
Hi,
yes, they have the same permissions as other ISOs that are recognized
(Centos for example).
I think there is something wrong with these iso not fully compliant
with standards (joliet, udf and stuff like that, I don't really know
much abouth this..)
Does ovirt make check on these specs? I know for sure that vmware don't
check anything about ISOs, in fact it doesn't even have a dedicated
storage for ISOs like ovirt.

Not sure why you have set this option.
Ideally replica 3 or arbiter volumes are recommended for gluster+ovirt
use. (client) quorum does not make sense for a 2 node setup. I have a
detailed write up here which explains things
http://gluster.readthedocs.org/en/latest/Administrator%20Guide/arbiter-volumes-and-quorum/
which explains things.

vdsm is writing only to half of them ( that with 2 links = correct )

Okay, so this one has link count =1 which means the .glusterfs hardlink
is missing. Can you try deleting this file from the brick and perform a
stat on the file from the mount? That should heal (i.e recreate it ) on
this brick from the other brick with the appropriate .glusterfs hard link.

What happens when I'll restart vdsm ? Will oVirt storages go to
"disable " state ??? = disconnect VMs storages ?

No idea on this one...

Is this the case in all 3 bricks of the replica?
