oVirt (vdsm, to be precise) uses SANLock [1] to achieve that goal.

Thanks for the explanation!
Generally you're right. We do have to make sure that metadata operations on
a logical volume are done by only one host, because we're indeed not using
clvm.
However, here we're talking about a stale lv that no one should access
anymore, and that we don't have interest in anymore.
In that case, we can just go and lvremove it.
Regarding the bug itself, if you are able to reproduce it in any way,
please send the full logs so we can understand its cause.

Hi Nathanaël,

Can you please attach the engine log so we can investigate this issue?
Also, do you get a warning message above the LUNs table when you click OK?
You can attach a screenshot of the pop up if you are not sure.

[ovirt-users] Change iSCSI target IP address

2017-10-24 Thread Colin Coe
Hi all

Running RHV 4.1.6, I need to move an iSCSI appliance to a new subnet.
There are VMs that I need to keep on this appliance.

What would be the best way to point RHV at the new IP address?

2017-10-24 Thread Sean McMurray
I have seen this problem before. For some reason, oVirt Node 4.1.x does
not always install everything right for efi. In my limited experience,
it fails to do it correctly 4 out of 5 times. The mystery to me is why
it gets it right sometimes. I solve the problem by manually copying the
missing file into my efi boot partition.

I remember I had a bad time trying to disable UEFI on the BIOS of

problems. In the end, I installed with UEFI (You will need a /boot/efi

Once installed, I have not had any issues with them.

[ovirt-users] Troubles uploading iso files via engine-iso-uploader

2017-10-24 Thread Edward Clay
Hello, I've recently ran into a problem after removing an old nfs
mounted ISO domain and recreating it using glusterfs. When I attempt
to upload an iso using engine-iso-uploader it shows that it's
attempting to access the storage domain via nfs.

---snipet
DEBUG: /bin/mount -t nfs -o rw,sync,soft 10.4.16.11:/ISOSB
/tmp/tmpr4lwKy
-

from the engine server I am able to mount the gluster volume from the
above path without issues. Iguess I'm confused as to why it's
attempting to connecting using nfs when I created the storage domain
for it using glusterfs.

I have 1 ovirt engine server with 7 host/hypervisors and a 3 node
replicated gluster volume. I've created seperate storage domains for
VM images(data) and for ISO images. Both storage domains are
accessible from the engine server and all host. Meaning I'm able to
mount the glusterfs volume from all 8 servers.

[ovirt-users] Node Upgrade failing

How upgrades as done and testes for oVirt Node NG ? Every time I have

The last image I have installed was

basically do two things before adding it to the Engine: 1) Change the

Check for Upgrade and it returns me a message: " 'found updates for

Re: [ovirt-users] unlock_entity.sh

2017-10-24 Thread nicolas

Hi,

Not sure if this is the only one way, but this works for us (run as
root):

  PGPASSWORD=... /usr/share/ovirt-engine/setup/dbutils/unlock_entity.sh
-t all -u engine

Note that unlock_entity.sh has many flags and this is just an example.

You can find the PGPASSWORD value in the
/etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/10-setup-database.conf file.

As to where can you find the disk ID, I usually use either the
Python-SDK or from within the admin UI, you can go to the Disks tab and
find the disk you're looking for. Simply click on it and you'll see the
ID string easily.

Nicolás

I have a lot of trouble with locked disks when trying to remove vm's.
I know there's the unlock_entity script but cannot get it to work.

Where can I find a copy-paste-able uuid nr of the disk?
It prompts me for a database password. Is this something I should have
created when setting up Ovirt?

Can anyone give me an example of a complete unlock entity command?

Many thanks for any help.

Using oVirt 4.1 using FreeIPA for authentication for
oVirt Manager is quite straight forward. Now, for the

Maybe I'm missing something, but I cannot find

  to integrate with FreeIPA?

We are tracking a similar request here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1490041
  - [RFE] Provide IdM client software in RHVH
In oVirt Node you can just enable CentOS repos and
install any needed package and configure it as if it was a
  normal CentOS installation.
Nothing already integrated ready to be consumed.

Unfortunately I couldn't reproduce neither of the scenarios in my 4.1.6
environment.
Are you still able to reproduce it? If you are, can you please attach full
engine and vdsm logs?

[ovirt-users] oVirt Node 4.1.6 on IBM x3650 M3

2017-10-24 Thread Jon bae
Hello everybody,
I would like to install oVirt Node on a IBM Machine, but after the
installation it can not boot. I get the message:

"/boot/efi/..." file not found

I try many different things like turn of uefi options in bios etc. but with
no effect.

Now I figure out that when I install full CentOS 7.3 from live DVD it just
boot normal.

Is there any workaround to get this to work?

Regards

OK. I can try it on SPM node if you confirm

I mean that in the past I worked with RHCS clusters, in both kinds of LVM
configurations: 1) CLVMD and 2) HA-LVM
In 1) I have the LVM layer that is cluster aware so if I run commands that
modify metadata information for LVM (such as adding, removing, extending
LV) I'm confident.
In 2), as LVM itself is not cluster aware, it is dangerous to do LVM
metadata operations with both nodes accessing the shared volumes.
So in this case I typically executed these steps:
- relocate the services so that they are all on one node
- power down the other one
- execute the required LVM changes
- power on the second node to have it join the cluster again
- eventually relocate back part of the cluster services to the second node

If I run "lvs" command on both oVirt nodes, they now both show the
information regarding the not-removed LV.
How does oVirt manage synchronization and coherence of LVM metadata between
nodes?
This is what I meant with my question...

Yes. the move operation succeeded and I'm usingthe target LV, that indeed
is marked with "open" (o) while the source not (-)

Just to make it clear - I know that bug originally occurred on FC, and it
will be helpful to have the full logs if we want to understand the root
cause for this.
