This removes the option to enable gfapi at an individual cluster level from
the UI. Since the libgfapi access does not allow for HA when the gluster
server used to provide path info to storage server is down, and does not
support live storage migration - we wanted to make sure that users do not
enable this feature inadvertantly.

If you have set this as a config option for 4.1 from CLI, it will continue
to work.

See above.

- it doesn’t seem to affect my HA vms, I’ve seen my 4.1.8 system properly

HA is an issue only when the gluster server used to provide volume
information is down. For instance, if you have provided the
"serverA:/volumeA" in your storage domain path , and if the other servers
in replica are up but serverA is down, VM cannot restart. Have you tested
this?

- or does this only affect the hosted-engine VM?

Again, see above.

Can you share any performance improvement numbers that you have seen after
turning on libgfapi access, also information about your workload would be
helpful.

[ovirt-users] Slow conversion from VMware in 4.1

2018-01-24 Thread Luca 'remix_tj' Lorenzetto
Hello,

i've started my migrations from vmware today. I had successfully
migrated over 200 VM from vmware to another cluster based on 4.0 using
our home-made scripts interacting with the API's. All the migrated vms
are running RHEL 6 or 7, with no SELinux.

We understood a lot about the necessities and we recorded also some
metrics about migration times. In July, with 4.0 as destination, we
were migrating ~30gb vm in ~40 mins.
It was an acceptable time, considering that about 50% of our vms stand
around that size.

Today we started migrating to the production cluster, that is,
instead, running 4.1.8. With the same scripts, the same api calls, and
a vm of about 50gb we were supposing that we will have the vm running
in the new cluster after 70 minutes, more or less.

Instead, the migration is taking more than 2 hours, and this not
because of the slow conversion time by qemu-img given that we're
transferring an entire disk via http.
Looking at the log, seems that activities executed before qemu-img
took more than 2000 seconds. As example, appears to me that dracut
took more than 14 minutes, which is in my opinion a bit long.

Is there any option to get a quicker conversion? Also some tasks to
run in the guests before the conversion are accepted.

We have to migrate ~300 vms in 2.5 months, and we're only at 11 after
7 hours (and today an exception that allowed us to start 4 hours in
advance, but usually our maintenance time is significantly lower).

This is a filtered out log reporting only the rows were we can
understand how much time has passed:

[ovirt-users] 4.2 VM Portal -Create- VM section issue

2018-01-24 Thread Vrgotic, Marko
Dear oVirt,

After setting all parameters for new VM and clicking on “Create” button, no
progress status or that action is accepted is seen from webui.
In addition, when closing the add VM section, I am asked if I am sure, due to
changes made.

Is this expected behaviour? Can something be done about?

Kindly awaiting your reply.

[ovirt-users] 4.2 Cloud-init & VM Portal question

2018-01-24 Thread Vrgotic, Marko
Dear oVirt,

I have created a template which includes cloud-init with user / timezone /
ssh_key / network defined. Intention is to allow regular users & VM Portal to
create VMs using this template.

Question that I have is; if possible, how can I arrange that vm name I fill in,
is passed to cloud-init as vm hostname (as it is default when creating VM from
Admin Portal)? Is it even possible and please if so, provide some guidance?

Did you restart the engine after you made that change?

Any advice?

 Hello Carl,

If you did not mark the network as "VM Network" it will be created
 bridgeless.

Do you think you could share vdsm.log and supervdsm.log from your host,
so I could look into it?

 Thanks,
 Petr

Re: [ovirt-users] Fail to add a second network

2018-01-24 Thread Petr Horacek
Could you hover the Out-Of-Sync icon in Setup Networks dialog and check
what is causing the issue?

Are both interfaces, you use DHCP on, connected to the same subnet?

 Hi Carl,

Below are the steps to configure back end network which is
 glusternw.

 1) create a new network called 'glusternw'
 2) Now go to clusters tab and select Logical networks tab.
 3) You should see the newly created network there.
 4) select the network and click on 'Manage Networks'
 5) In Manage networks window for the newly created network select both
'Migration' & glusternw and click ok.
 6) Now go to the hosts tab click on one host and select 'Network
 Interfaces' tab.
 7) select the interface to which you would like to assign the backend
network, drag and drop glusternw to that interface and click ok
 8) You will see that network is now out of sync.
 9) Please click refresh capabilities which will bring the network
 online.

 Hope this helps !!

Re: [ovirt-users] [ANN] oVirt 4.1.9 Release is now available

2018-01-24 Thread Darrell Budic
Couple questions about a fixed ‘bug' in the release notes for this:

Does https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1517237 mean that ovirt will
no longer use libgfapi for any VMs, or is it just removing the check box from
the storage GUI?

If it is removing the capacity, I have several questions:
- what happens to my cluster which has it enabled from CLI?
- what happens to my currently running VMs using it?
- why are you removing a major feature with a bug notice and no further
information?
- it doesn’t seem to affect my HA vms, I’ve seen my 4.1.8 system properly
restart systems using it (node/libvirtd crash that seems to have been related
to spectre/meltdown firmwares)
- or does this only affect the hosted-engine VM?

If it doesn’t actually remove the capability, this is ignorable. But this is a
much wanted feature for me, and I’ve been quite happy to finally get to use it.
Not going to be pleased if it disappears without notice.

But i still have my problem..but i suspect my problem to be routing/gateway

I have try using DHCP with the other interface but when i manually bring it

Any hints?

[ovirt-users] 4.2 VM Portal -Create- VM section issue

2018-01-24 Thread Vrgotic, Marko
Dear oVirt,

After setting all parameters for new VM and clicking on “Create” button, no
progress status or that action is accepted is seen from webui.
In addition, when closing the add VM section, I am asked if I am sure, due to
changes made.

Is this expected behaviour? Can something be done about?

Kindly awaiting your reply.

Dear oVirt,

I have created a template which includes cloud-init with user / timezone / ssh

create VMs using this template.

Question that I have is; if possible, how can I arrange that vm name I fill in,
is passed to cloud-init as vm hostname (as it is default when creating VM from
Admin Portal)? Is it even possible and please if so, provide some guidance.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt 3.6, we had the ovirt manager go down in a bad way and all VMs for one node marked Unknown and Not Reponding while up

2018-01-24 Thread Christopher Cox
Would restarting vdsm on the node in question help fix this? Again, all the VMs
are up on the node. Prior attempts to fix this problem have left the node in a
state where I can issue the "has been rebooted" command to it, it's confused.

So... node is up. All VMs are up. Can't issue "has been rebooted" to the node,
all VMs show Unknown and not responding but they are up.

Chaning the status is the ovirt db to 0 works for a second and then it goes
immediately back to 8 (which is why I'm wondering if I should restart vdsm on
the node).

Oddly enough, we're running all of this in production. So, watching it all go
down isn't the best option for us.

Any advice is welcome.

On 01/23/2018 03:58 PM, Christopher Cox wrote:

Like the subject says.. I tried to clear the status from the vm_dynamic for a

Any hints on how to get things back to a known state?

I tried marking the node in maint, but it can't move the "Unknown" VMs, so that
doesn't work. I tried rebooting a VM, that doesn't work.

The state of the VMs is up and I think they are running on the node they say
they are running on, we just have the Unknown problem with VMs on that one
node. So... can't move them, reboot VMs doens't fix

Any trick to restoring state so that oVirt is ok???

(what a mess)

[ovirt-users] Ovirt backups lead to unresponsive VM

2018-01-24 Thread Alex K
Hi all,

I have a cluster with 3 nodes, using ovirt 4.1 in a self hosted setup on
top glusterfs.
On some VMs (especially one Windows server 2016 64bit with 500 GB of disk).
Guest agents are installed at VMs. i almost always observe that during the
backup of the VM the VM is rendered unresponsive (dashboard shows a
question mark at the VM status and VM does not respond to ping or to
anything).

For scheduled backups I use:

https://github.com/wefixit-AT/oVirtBackup

The script does the following:

1. snapshot VM (this is done ok without any failure)

2. Clone snapshot (this steps renders the VM unresponsive)

3. Export Clone

4. Delete clone

5. Delete snapshot

Do you have any similar experience? Any suggestions to address this?

I have never seen such issue with hosted Linux VMs.

The cluster has enough storage to accommodate the clone.

Thanx,

Alex

Re: [ovirt-users] host-passthrough or pcid enable for Westmere and SandyBridge

2018-01-24 Thread Florian Schmid
Hi,

are there any news on this?

I tried to change /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map.xml manually and added pcid flag
to SandyBridge CPU and restarted HW node, but on VM, nothing changed.
I found the xml file for this VM and I found a strange content:
In /var/run/libvirt/qemu/, there are the XML files of the running VMs ->
...

  SandyBridge

...
-> feature policy='disable' name='pcid'

It was indeed added to XML file, but it looks like it is somehow disabled.

I actually don't know, how to enable it.

On hosts, where cpu_map.xml is not changed, this entry is not there.

We are running version 4.1.7

Betreff: [ovirt-users] host-passthrough or pcid enable for Westmere and
SandyBridge

Hi,

With the meltdown patches, now it is specially beneficial to have
the pcid feature in the virtual CPUs. See:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mechanical-sympathy/L9mHTbeQLNU

The PCID feature is available in physical "Westmere" (Release date
circa 2010) or newer CPUs.

However, in libvirt the pcid feature is only avalilable for virtual
CPUs Haswell (Release date circa 2013) or newer. The recomendation is
using Haswell, Broadwell or Skylake based model or host passthrough.
Now, I think "host passthrough" is not an option for oVirt for good
reason so this leaves Haswell, Broadwell or Skylake as options.

Is it possible to edit /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map.xml on the compute
nodes to add the pcid feature to the virtual CPU models between Westmere
and Haswell (that would be Westmere and SandyBridge)? Is anyone aware if
something like this is being considered by the libvirt developers?
Actually understanding the implications or doing so is way beyond my
skill level.

By now you may have guessed that my oVirt clusters use physical
Westmere and SandyBridge CPUs :-/

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

I'm checking Storage -> Disks in my oVirt test site. I can find:

- 4 disks for my 4 VM
- 1 disk for HostedEngine
- 4 OVF_STORE entries, sharables and without size.

I can't manage, move or remove OVF_STORE entries.
I think that they are somethig ported during some upgrade...

Does anyone have any ideas?

[ovirt-users] ovirt 3.6, we had the ovirt manager go down in a bad way and all VMs for one node marked Unknown and Not Reponding while up

2018-01-24 Thread Christopher Cox
Like the subject says.. I tried to clear the status from the vm_dynamic
for a VM, but it just goes back to 8.

Any hints on how to get things back to a known state?

I tried marking the node in maint, but it can't move the "Unknown" VMs,
so that doesn't work. I tried rebooting a VM, that doesn't work.

The state of the VMs is up and I think they are running on the node
they say they are running on, we just have the Unknown problem with VMs
on that one node. So... can't move them, reboot VMs doens't fix

Any trick to restoring state so that oVirt is ok???

(what a mess)

Re: [ovirt-users] Apache Directory Server

2018-01-24 Thread Martin Perina
Hi,

officially we don't support Apache DS, but aaa-ldap is quite extensible so
it should be possible attach it to oVirt.
As we don't have Apache DS installed, could you please provide us following
information?

1. Does it use RFC2307 as the schema or something else?
2. What is the attribute name specifying available base DNs?
3. What is the attribute name specifying unique ID of a record?

Ondro, any other information required?

Thanks

Martin
