What about just using something like SpaceWalk for management and
FreeIPA for user management?

You're not supposed to use a oVirt node as a workstation IIRC.

[ovirt-users] Re: Involuntary emergency upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2

2018-10-31 Thread David Johnson
The saga has ended and all is well.

When I stopped all of the active VM's, the storage domains came back to
normal and came online. At that point I had to delete the VM's that had
been running unmanaged on the hosts, then I could import all of the objects
from he storage domain into the data center. the only thing I lost was a
bitnami redmine VM that had been installed from an OVA. This was no major
loss, since I backed it up at the beginning of this adventure.

In retrospect, the biggest issues I had were:
* being overly cautious because I didn't know which operations were
destructive, and
* finding the right actions in the GUI when I decided to take the plunge.

Thank you all for your generous assistance.

Regards,
David Johnson

Thank you everyone for all of your help. Here is where things stand now:

I gave up trying to recover from backup. I wasn't able to mount the
OVA. Since this is a test rack, I looked at the amount of time I've sunk
into it already (about the same as it took to build from scratch the first
time around) and decided that it was worthwhile to risk starting from
scratch rather than become an overnight bit bashing Ovirt guru.

I installed the 4.2 controller, upgraded the hosts to 4.2, and then
added the two hosts to the default data center. At this point, all of the
running JVM's were visible to the controller, but the vm's do not appear to
be managed by the controller. I can't migrate them from one host to the
 other, for example.

As near as I can tell, the next crucial step is to import the existing
 storage domains.

There is no visible way to import an existing storage domain to an
uninitialized data center (uninitialized data centers are not available to
the Import Domain button)), so I created a new share on the SAN for a
bootstrap domain, and am unable to connect to it. The error message given
by OVirt is "Error while executing action Add Storage Connection:
Problem while trying to mount target", which is not really information.

Is there a command line tool for importing the existing storage domains
that will not choke on an uninitialized data center?

 Thank you in advance,

[ovirt-users] Open UDS and Ovirt

2018-10-31 Thread Hari Prasanth Loganathan
Hi Team,

I come across one interesting article:
https://www.udsenterprise.com/en/blog/2018/05/24/uds-enterprise-supports-ovirt-42/

which talks about the integration of UDS with Ovirt.

My question is as a default ovirt provides the way to create the VM and
take the console of it using virt-viewer then why we need the open UDS to
be integrated with ovirt? Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Hari

[ovirt-users] Desktops as Nodes and Client?

2018-10-31 Thread gilbert . drew+ovirt
Hi,

I'm starting to look at oVirt to help with a datacentre consolidation project
to drastically reduce the number of physical servers and it seems like a great
fit.

As an added bonus, it looks like it might help solve some desktop management
challenges we have. Since the desktop PCs are reasonably powerful, what I
would ideally like is for them to be nodes, each capable of running a single
templated VM accessed by the local user.

I can only seem to find documentation relating to standard VDI, i.e thin
clients and fat servers. As I'm trying to reduce the number of servers, this
is not ideal.

Does anyone know of a similar setup or can provide some pointers?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Networking - How to pass all vlan (trunk) to a guest VM?

2018-10-31 Thread Jonathan Greg
Hi,

I didn't find the documentation about it... How I can pass all the vlan (trunk)
to a guest VM (without SR-IOV)?

My switch is configured to trunk all vlans.
I do have configured a logical network with the "Enable VLAN tagging" box
uncheck and assign it to a VM. My understanding with this setting is that
tagged and untagged packet should be forwarded to the VM guest.
Unfortunately it doesn't work at all, if I run a tcpdump on the VM nic attached
to this logical network, I don't see anything... I would really like to run a
virtual router or firewall on my setup without having to shutdown my VM and
having attach a new vnic each time I want to add a new vlan.

Any idea?

When posting logs please trim the log so it starts at the start of a flow,
and ends after the end of the flow.

Always compress logs, I think xz format give the best compression
these days.

Yes, this is expected.

Vdsm is monitoring volume size every 60 seconds, based on this
configuration:
https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm/blob/cbdbee979f0bfc7a7dd447af0d69c5aa9e0f8b8c/lib/vdsm/common/config.py.in#L369

The monitoring is needed to update engine about disk actual size when
using thin provisioning.

- With block storage, when vdsm detect that a disk is too full, it will
extend the disk with help
  of the SPM host.
- With sparse disks on file storage, the disk actual size will grow as the
VM writes more
  data to the disk.

Engine show the actual disk size based on the size reported by vdsm, using
data collected by
these getVolumeSize calls.

This check can probably optimized to run only on file based thin
provisioned disks instead of
any disk. Please file a bug to optimize this is you think it is an issue.

[ovirt-users] Re: data(Master) storage domain is inactive / Failed to Reconstruct Master Domain

2018-10-31 Thread Jonathan Greg
Hi all,

I finally found the cause of my problem.
I did not remember that I had changed the MTU on the bridge ovirtmgmt to 9000
but also on my NFS server and my switch.

Doing some ping NFS server I realized that I had an issue.
I had to set the MTU to 9020 on my switch (IP header). Right after that change,
the storage domain cam backup properly.

My problem is fixed!

Thanks guys.

[ovirt-users] How to test incremental backup

2018-10-31 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
based on this:
https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/incremental-backup/
how can I made an initial test run?
Which version of hypervisor?
Am I forced to test with RHEL 7.6 beta right now, or are there
ovirt-node-ng master images available with the features?
Which version of oVirt to use to try?

Thanks in advance for any insight to start with.

Gianluca

[ovirt-users] Re: Force VM delete API

2018-10-31 Thread Shani Leviim
Hi Hari,

In case you don't have any more locked tasks, I would give a try to unlock
all the tasks:
PGPASSWORD=password  /usr/share/ovirt-engine/setup/dbutils/unlock_entity.sh
-t all

This one may help too:
PGPASSWORD=password  /usr/share/ovirt-engine/setup/dbutils/taskcleaner.sh -R

[ovirt-users] Re: Can't create iSCSI storage

2018-10-31 Thread Shani Leviim
Hi,
Can you please attach the engine.log? (and maybe some screenshots from the
UI?)

Also, when you're trying to re-create the storage domain, does that lun
appear as selectable (which maybe indicates that the domain wasn't created),
or the new storage domain appears on the storage domains list so it was
created?

Hi there and welcome aboard!

Asking questions regarding to ovirt is a part of this mailing porpuses, so
I don't think there's a rulebook.
It was meant to help you and others :)

For my opinion, just try to be as imformative as you can.
If there's some more needed information, you'll probably be asked to supply
it :)

B) What do you use here, top or bottom posting?

Depends on you.

Once again - your call :)

> D) Which is the log length limit?
>
It's better to keep it focused on your issue, but not too short - basically
it should contain the operation you're trying to do.
If some more logs are needed, you'll be asked to add them.

E) When should I use pastebin or similar websites?
>
As much as I know, attaching the logs as mail attachments are more common.
It's worth checking if the data you've pasted on patebin will be expired
eventually, so I personally think that attaching the logs here is will be
more durable.

Make sure you've installed libvirt from the rpm as appeared on the link
there.

[ovirt-users] Re: Automated VM rollout

2018-10-31 Thread Ondra Machacek

In case of virtio_scsi, you should use following:

/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-0QEMU_QEMU_HARDDISK_{{ disk_id[:-16] }}

Where disk_id[:-16], is id which you get from API, for example:

 /api/disks/cdb62095-62ba-4137-8fa0-6375748d8868

so the result path is:

 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-0QEMU_QEMU_HARDDISK_cdb62095-62ba-4137-8

Which is symlink to sda, sdb, sdX...

On 10/30/18 12:01 PM, Markus Schaufler wrote:

Hi!

We are developing a tool for automated vm rollouts and struggle with the disk
ordering which seems to be completly random?
ie. when creating a vm with 3 disks the order on the virtio scsi bus is
different each time - which of course causes troubles when executing the next
steps.

Thanks for any hints on this!

Hi Dominik,

Thank you for your help. No i can attach all logical networks

The problem was the configurations on the Data Center and the hosts. They
were not the same. After changing everything to be the same, it worked fine.

[ovirt-users]Re: Storage domain mount error: Lustre file system(Posix compliant FS)

2018-10-31 Thread 김형근
Um...

Does the gluster included in version 4.2.7 improve small file I/O performance?
If that 's the case, I will test you as you say.

Finally, I want to ask one more time.
How can I use lustre?

I am testing Lustre File System in Ovirt or RH(E)V
environment.

(The reason is simple: glusterfs and nfs have limit of
performance, SAN Storage and excellent Software Defined Storage are quite
expensive.)

Please re-test Gluster with latest 4.2.7, where we have
improved performance nicely specifically for Gluster based storage.

Testing for file system performance was successful.

As expected, luster showed amazing performance.

However, there was an error adding luster storage to
the storage domain as Posix compliant FS.

[ovirt-users] Re: VM paused then killed with "device vda reported I/O error"

2018-10-31 Thread fsoyer

Hi,
unfortunatly, at the time of this error there was no messages. In fact, this
file (rhev-data-center-mnt-glusterSD-victor.local.systea.fr:_DATA01.log)
contains only :

As I said in my another post "VMs unexpectidly restarted" which is maybe
related to this one (not exactly the same things but close enough... Please see
this posts as they can give some additional informations ? Especially the
messages since sunday 28 12:42, after I tried an export/import of a VM on
saturday 27) I see no revelant error in gluster logs at time of the problems
occur on the VMs.

Though, looking on this files, I find some messages in the mount log of the
second volume DATA02, concerned by the second problem on oct-27. I'll add this
messages on the other post "VMs unexpectidly restarted" to avoid confusion. I
might not have open this new post after this one, but on the moment I couldn't
be sure that this was a unique problem.

Thank you for your time,

Frank

code has been pushed to CentOS repositories:
https://git.centos.org/summary/?r=rpms/libvirt.git
CentOS 7.6 build started yesterday:
https://twitter.com/Arrfab/status/1057197763484700672
I would expect 2-3 weeks before CentOS 7.6 go GA. In the meanwhile, if you
have a test environment, you can use the Continuous Release repo for
helping to test CentOS: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/cr/x86_64/

[ovirt-users] Re: Engine restore failing

2018-10-31 Thread Simone Tiraboschi
OK,
found the real error is here:

2018-10-26 08:16:17 1874: pg_cmd running: pg_restore -w -U engine -h
localhost -p 5432 -d engine -j 2
/tmp/engine-backup.uqg1Ha3mFP/db/engine_backup.db
pg_restore: [archiver] unsupported version (1.13) in file header

So pg_restore is restoring nothing and everything else after that fails
with strange results.

 Hi,
 you probably hit:
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1620314

That feature has been reworked for 4.2.7: with next release you
 will be able to run
   hosted-engine --deploy --restore-from-file=yourbackup.tar.gz
that will automatically inject your backup file.

If you want to have a preview of that feature you can try with

 https://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup_4.2_build-artifacts-el7-x86_64/161/artifact/exported-artifacts/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-2.2.30-1.el7.noarch.rpm
