Yup, doing the 3 > drop_cache is clearly freeing up the memory.

I've filed bug 1659342 in rh bugzilla

Thanks Darrell, have a nice weekend.

I've seen the articles about hooking ovirt to AD and keycloak, but is there a
way to hook it to something like ADFS? I'd like to have it require an MFA

[ovirt-users] Re: Ovirt Engine UI bug- cannot attache networks to hosts

Hi,
No errors in the engine logs, only some info's...

logged in.

Maybe the following, but I don;t think it has to do with the UI error:

2018-12-13 17:40:46,458Z INFO

Wondering, I am the only one getting this UI error ?

[ovirt-users] Re: [Gluster-users] VMs paused - unknown storage error - Stale file handle - distribute 2 - replica 3 volume with sharding

2018-12-13 Thread Marco Lorenzo Crociani

Hi,
is there a way to recover file from "Stale file handle" errors?

Here some of the tests we have done:

- compared the extended attributes of all of the three replicas of the
involved shard. Found identical attributes.

- compared SHA512 message digest of all of the three replicas of the
involved shard. Found identical digests.

- tried to delete the shard from a replica set, one at a time, along
with its hard link. Shard is always rebuilt correctly but error from
client persists.

Hi,
I opened a bug on gluster because I have reading errors on files on a

The files are many of the VMs images of the oVirt DATA storage domain.
oVirt pause the vms because unknown storage errors.
It's impossibile to copy/clone, manage some snapshots of these vms. The
errors on the low level are "stale file handle".

Volume is distribute 2 replicate 3 with sharding.

Should I open a bug also on oVirt?

Gluster 3.12.15-1.el7

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster with two ovirt nodes

2018-12-13 Thread Darrell Budic
I would recommend just putting a gluster Arbiter on the 3rd node, then you can
use normal ovirt tools more easily.

If you really want to do this, I wouldn’t bother with ctdb. I used to do it,
switch to a simpler DNS trick, just put entries in your hosts file with the
storage ip of both nodes, and use that name in ovirt to access your storage.
But yes, you can install ctdb by hand and it will work.

[ovirt-users] Re: Memory usage inclines

2018-12-13 Thread Darrell Budic
Agree, looks like disk caching, which is considered in use but can be freed as
things ask for it. What kind of storage are you using here?

I checked my converged group, the GUI memory use looks like it includes the
cache as well, just not as extreme as yours :) If you wanted to confirm, you
could clear it with

sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

and you should get all the cache memory back without rebooting. Presumably,
it’s all holding filesystem data for quick access, so not a terrible thing,
just alarming to see 97% utilization. Unless it kicked off unneeded MOM runs if
you’re using same page merging and ballooning, then its doing unneeded work and
maybe slowing your VMs… You’d probably see it in top if this was the case, it’s
fairly CPU intensive.

Ultimately, you may want to file a bug/feature request to have the GUI
differentiate cache from “regular’ in use memory for clarity.

Hi Markus,
 What's the out put of
egrep "vmx|svm" "/proc/cpuinfo"
When the out put does not return any thing you will get "Hardware
virtualization is not supported on this host"

[ovirt-users] Re: Ovirt 4.3 Alpha AMD 2970WX Windows VM creation and NUMA

2018-12-13 Thread Darin Schmidt
I cant get any further though for some reason. I think its with qemu. I can get
a VM up to install the OS by selecting somethign other than Windows for the VM
type as specified as a possible workaround. But as Windows boot ISO does its
thing, it throws a thread error. I can get the error later today if needed. I
just been patiently waiting for 4.3 to become more developed so I can use my
hardware.

Please open a bug for this and be sure to reference it in commit message so
it will be properly tracked in 4.3 release notes.

I would consider "yum update ovirt-release42" as a better option. It will
provide the missing nbdkit dependency.
It has been fixed in oVirt 4.2.7 release.

[ovirt-users] Re: engine mails about FSM states

2018-12-13 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi,

those are state change notifications from the hosted engine agent. It
basically means somebody restarted the ha-agent process and it found
out the VM is still running fine and returned to the proper state.

Configuring it is possible using the broker.conf file in
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha (look for the notification section) or the
hosted-engine tool (search --help for set config) depending on the
version of hosted engine you are using.

Best regards

it’s not really done because of that - it’s rather that by default none of the
named CPU models are adding vmx and so the guest doesn’t look like capable of
virtualization. Cpu passthrough does, because it passes all the flags, but it
also enforces host pinning. Which is then a nice coincidence because indeed the
migration wouldn’t work anyway:)
And it’s something to keep in mind now in later 4.2.z and 4.3 where we now
allow migration of VMs with cpu passthrough. But it’s not for this use case and
there nested environment still doesn’t support migration properly and you need
to make sure not to migrate.

[ovirt-users] engine mails about FSM states

2018-12-13 Thread fsoyer

Hi,
I don't find revelant answer about this. Sorry il this was already asked.
I receive randomly (one or two tims a week, differents hours) 3 mails with this
subjects :
first : ovirt-hosted-engine state transition StartState-ReinitializeFSM
second : ovirt-hosted-engine state transition ReinitializeFSM-EngineStarting
third : ovirt-hosted-engine state transition EngineStarting-EngineUp
all at exactly the same time. The "events" in GUI doesn't indicate anything
about this. No impact on engine or VMs.
So I wonder what this messages means ? And, if case of just "info" messages, is
there a way to disable them ?

Thanks.

I would consider using foreman (and katello) for keeping a local copy of
the needed packages so you don't need to download same package multiple
times from internet.
You can consider using foreman / puppet or ansible to apply your
customization to newly installed nodes.
Note you can have your ansible playbook run at deployment time in oVirt
4.2. RFE for this is here:
