[ovirt-users] Re: HE Fails to install on oVirt 4.3.4

2019-06-18 Thread nico . kruger
Hi there,

Yes i use the same interface... i know its wrong but my one environment was
deployed like this (oVirt 4.2.8) and i wanted to test possibility to separate
them after install...

But this makes sense, so thanks for letting me know. I will try deploy now with
separated interfaces

[ovirt-users] Re: HE Fails to install on oVirt 4.3.4

2019-06-18 Thread Slobodan Stevanovic
Do you use the same interface for gluster and ovirt node?

I had the same issue like you. I was trying to install HE deployment and it was
always failing. I was about to give up on ovirt then I decided to use separate
interfaces for network and storage traffic, and everything worked like a charm.
You will still see some pause when it is waiting for the host to be up, but it
will work.

I am not sure but I believe that something happens during installation when
using the single interface. The bridge adapter for the engine never gets
created.

[ovirt-users] Upgrade Hyperconverged Single Node

2019-06-18 Thread jeremy_tourville
Does this page apply?
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/upgrade-guide/chap-Updates_between_Minor_Releases.html

My Node is presently running 4.2.7 and I'd like to upgrade to 4.3.4

I was reading about needing to fail over so the SPM role is available (ie more
than 1 host)

If the page above is not applicable what is the procedure?

Thanks!

[ovirt-users] USB Passtrough device problem

2019-06-18 Thread Juan Pablo Lorier

Hi,

I've tried to use 2 different audio IO interfaces connected to a VM via
USB passthrough and none worked.

I've tried with win 10 and win server 2016 vms with different errors but
none worked.

I've connected the devices to a host, then attached the host device to a
VM and in the VM properties I've enabled the USB support in the console
properties.

The devices are installed and don't show any error in the device manager
within the VM, but they don't work.

Should I do something else?

Subject: [External] [ovirt-users] Does anyone have a positive experience with
physical host to oVirt conversion?

Hello,

Just would like to check if it really possible to convert old Centos6 based
physical box into oVirt 4.3 VM? I haven't been able to find any success stories
on this and process seems a bit complicated.
As I understand it I need a virt-v2v conversion proxy + image with virt-p2v
running on physical host which needs to be converted. I'm a bit lost how I can
get the converted VM into oVirt cluster than?

[ovirt-users] Re: Snapshots and quotas

2019-06-18 Thread Andrej Krejcir
Hi,

The storage quota takes into account virtual size of active VM's disks,
actual size of snapshots and actual size of templates. So the active VM
disk needs 40GB of quota, but snapshots need only the size they actually
consume.

In case the disk is preallocated, the first snapshot will have actual size
the same as virtual size. So the VM with snapshot will need quota twice as
big.

Currently it is not possible to exclude snapshots from the quota.
As a partial workaround, try setting the allocation policy of the disk to
'Thin Provision'.

There are config values that change the default threshold and grace values,
but they are not exposed through the engine-config utility. Currently the
only way to change them is to update the DB table 'vdc_options' directly.
The names of the config options are: 'QuotaThresholdCluster',
'QuotaThresholdStorage', 'QuotaGraceCluster', 'QuotaGraceStorage'. The
grace values are only what is above 100%, so grace value 20 is 120%.

The table can be updated for example by:
UPDATE vdc_options SET default_value = 20 WHERE option_name =
'QuotaGraceStorage';

The config values are cached, so the ovirt-engine service needs to be
restarted after updating the DB.

Best regards,
Andrej

[ovirt-users] ovirt-vmconsole: Pemission denied (publickey) when I select VM id

2019-06-18 Thread Jonathan Greg
Hi all,

I'm getting a Permission denied (publickey) when I select VM id... It looks
like that the ovirt engine cannot authenticate himself against the ovirt node.
Any idea how I could fix it?

[ovirt-users] Re: ovirt nic ansible module

2019-06-18 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Sure it does the trick, but it is heavy to use..

Secondly why the option should be more available into the UI than with
the API?

Hello,

With that module, we can make the nic present/absent/plugged/unplugged,

Thanks.

[ovirt-users] [Ovirt 4.3] Guest agent issue

2019-06-18 Thread s . natoli
Hi to all!

I can't use the after_ hooks in the guest agent (version: 1.0.16-1.el7)
installed in a centos 7 machine in a ovirt 4.3 cluster, but the before_x
hooks are executed without problem
The same machine in an old ovirt cluster was ok with the same hooks.

This is the ovirt-guest-agent.log

and this is the content:

#!/bin/bash
touch /tmp/prova

this script in before_ start without problems

Someone have some suggestion or some log to see to solve this problem?
Thank you!

[ovirt-users] Does anyone have a positive experience with physical host to oVirt conversion?

2019-06-18 Thread Artem Tambovskiy
Hello,

Just would like to check if it really possible to convert old Centos6 based
physical box into oVirt 4.3 VM? I haven't been able to find any success
stories on this and process seems a bit complicated.
As I understand it I need a virt-v2v conversion proxy + image with virt-p2v
running on physical host which needs to be converted. I'm a bit lost how I
can get the converted VM into oVirt cluster than?

[ovirt-users] [Ovirt 4.3] Guest agent issue

2019-06-18 Thread s . natoli
Hi to all!
I can't use the after _xx hook of the guest agent (version: 1.0.16-1.el7)
installed in a centos 7 machine, , this machine was in a old ovirt
cluster(4.2), where the hooks were started without problem. I'm trying also
with a new machine with centos 7 but nothing.
The before_ hooks are started well.

This is the ovirt-guest-agent.log:

MainThread::INFO::2019-06-18
13:15:11,192::ovirt-guest-agent::59::root::Starting oVirt guest agent
Dummy-2::INFO::2019-06-18 13:15:11,326::OVirtAgentLogic::322::root::Received an

external command: refresh...
Dummy-2::INFO::2019-06-18 13:18:24,605::OVirtAgentLogic::322::root::Received an
external command: api-version...

as you can see, the after_migration hook is not fired and it seem that the
lifecycle-event for the after_migrate is not dispatched.

The hook script is:
-rwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 34 Jun 14 12:48 01_example
in /etc/ovirt-guest-agent/hooks.d/after_migration
the content is:

#!/bin/bash
sudo touch /tmp/example

If i put this script in a before_xxx folder it will run without problem.

Both vdsm and supervdsm log seems fine. (also in debug level)

The xml file of the machine contain contain the virt-io-serial

...

..

Someone know where can i take a look to solve this problem?

Hi,

Please open a bug with the details you added here.
Please attach setup logs (all of them since 4.2, including) and
ovirt-engine-dwh log so we can investigate this issue.

If you stop ovirt-engine-dwhd process, does pg calm down?

Thank you

Your call. All I know is, it took me over a month to install oVirt, including
three weeks of one-to-one time with Simone Tiraboschi from Red Hat. He sent me
eleven emails but eventually gave up, baffled as me. It shouldn't be this
hard. Others who are having this or similar problems will just abandon oVirt:
("I'm just wondering if I should cut my losses with oVirt"):
https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/PZJYNAKPYNQUTTNAXG57HTMQHATWYQGZ/

The biggest challenge is to find the relevant error. What would be useful is a
log aggregator. If oVirt had a journalctl type app running on the host that
tails ALL the logs including the engine logs from hosted-engine (via ssh),
everything would be in one place and easy to spot. Currently, you need fairly
detailed knowledge of the architecture and install process to (i) find the log
files (ii) whittle down to the one displaying the problem. Yes, I know you
guys have a log-packaging app that compresses them up, so they can be sent to
Red Hat for inspection (does this even include hosted-engine logs?). But with
a journalling app, users would be able to spot the error themselves and most of
the time (if it's not a new bug), fix it on their own like I did. And yes, I
know once set up, users will have their own log aggregator in the form of
Kibana, Splunk, etc but these don't help during the initial install.

[ovirt-users] How-to create migration network between 3 hosts without switch?

2019-06-18 Thread Konstantin Shalygin

Hi oVirters,

I have a network topology: host with two NIC's ports - each host
connected with two another hosts.

    host2

  / \

host1  /     \

   \  /

 \  /

        host3

oVirt can't setup multiple migration networks for cluster. May be
possible avoid this or setup some virtual device in shell (like vxvlan)

with which oVirt can work?

Why we can't use switch at this time? This is 100G "only for migration
network" (huge VM's 256GB RAM+) and witch switch price for this setup
increased from $3500 to $19000.

Thanks,

k

[ovirt-users] ovirt_vm ansible cloud-init ipv6 related

2019-06-18 Thread Vrgotic, Marko
Dear oVirt

Would you be so kind to help out clarifying if and how is IPv6 supported with
-ansible / ovirt_vm / cloud-init boot protocol.

I have created a VM template which by default uses cloud-init with following:

[cid:image001.png@01D5251F.E55FEAA0]

When I boot the VM from UI, each VM gets IPv4 DHCP and IPv6 DHCP6 address,
default cloud-init setup and we have infrastructure for both IPv4 and IPv6.

However, when calling same template via Ansible ovirt_vm, using following:

   cloud_init_nics:
   |~
 - nic_name: eth0
 |~
   nic_boot_protocol: dhcp
 |~
   nic_on_boot: true

each VM receives only IPv4 DHCP and only IPv6 RA, but not DHCP IPv6.

Looking at booted VM, following options are not set:

  *   /etc/sysconfig/network => NETWORKING_IPV6=yes
  *   Or /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 => DHCPV6C=yes and
IPV6INIT=yes

We need IPv6 DHCP6 address , especially for registering it host with DNS
record.

Is this supported? Am I doing it wrong way?
If its supported please let me know, how can I make sure that VMs created using
Ansible also initialize DHCPV6.

Please assist.

Perhaps. I am not saying this does not make sense. It's a question of
trade-off - between the time spent preparing a patch, testing it,
potentially having to maintain it in the future, etc., and the time
spent debugging such cases when they do happen, and the other damage
caused (not much, in code related only to new setups - it has very low
chances to e.g. corrupt data etc.).

While in many cases we do try to hand-hold, admittedly especially in
cases of more potential for damage, there is a limit to how much we
can do. Or, in other words (also being a sysadmin for 15 years in the
past, and also seeing many support cases in oVirt/RHV), there is
practically _no_ limit to how much a user can do weird things to the
system...

That said, you know the "standard" answer in such cases... (Verified -
that's the hard part - ) Patches are welcome! :-)

Best regards,

[ovirt-users] HE Fails to install on oVirt 4.3.4

2019-06-18 Thread nico . kruger
Hi Guys,

I have tried installing oVirt 4.3.4 using
ovirt-node-ng-installer-4.3.4-2019061016.el7.iso and
ovirt-engine-appliance-4.3-20190610.1.el7.x86_64.rpm
Gluster install works fine, but HE deployment fails every time at last "waiting
for host to be up". I have tried the deployment on multiple different hardware
types, also tried single Vs 3 node deployments and all fail at the same point.

I suspect that the IP in the HE is not being correctly configured as i see qemu
running, but ansible times out and cleans up the fail install.

Any ideas on why this is happening? i will try add the logs

I am going to try using a older HE appliance rpm to see if that fixes the issue.
