Can you enable debug logs on the host hosting the Hosted Engine ?
Details can be found on

Merry Christmas to all !

[ovirt-users] Re: Upgrade from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 (oVirt Node) - vdsmd.service/start failed with result 'dependency'

2020-12-24 Thread Marco Fais
Hi,

just a quick correction on the below --
the dependency chain is vdsmd --> vdsm-network --> openvswitch -->
ovsdb-server (failed)

The conf.db file and /var/run/openvswitch dir are in 4.4.3 but not in 4.4.4
In 4.4.3 looks like the vdsm-network service does not depend from
openvswitch:

*4.4.3* --
[Unit]
Description=Virtual Desktop Server Manager network restoration
Wants=network.target
Requires=libvirtd.service
After=libvirtd.service

*4.4.4* --
[Unit]
Description=Virtual Desktop Server Manager network restoration
Wants=network.target
Requires=libvirtd.service openvswitch.service NetworkManager.service
After=libvirtd.service openvswitch.service NetworkManager.service

Marco

[ovirt-users] Re: power management iLO5

2020-12-24 Thread Klaas Demter

Hi,

the general recommendation for newer remote management cards that
support it (like the ilo5/idrac9) is to use redfish. I personally do not
have HP servers, so I can not give any advise on the specifics for ilo5.

Apart from that recommendation: fence_ilo_ssh also supports ilo5 (
https://github.com/ClusterLabs/fence-agents/blob/master/agents/ilo_ssh/fence_ilo_ssh.py
). IPMI is not really secure, I would say that is why it's not enabled
by default in the new servers :)

Greetings

Klaas

 A user with Login permissions and Operator level access for IPMI should be

Root Cause

The default settings of iLO-5 on a HPE Gen 10 system have disabled IPMI access
to the management controller. The fence agents for iLO-3 onward default to be
using IPMI in order to communicate with the management controller. Therefore
iLO3, iLO4 as well as IPMILAN fail to connect to a iLO-5 management controller.

But, there is no IPMI option in power management.

How can i enable power managemenet properly with iLO5 or IPMI?

[ovirt-users] Manually deploying a hyperconverged setup with an existing gluster bricks (Was: Cannot upgrade cluster to v4.5)

2020-12-24 Thread Gilboa Davara
Hello all,

Found the problem (at least I think so), but not the solution.
As I have an existing Gluster setup (quite complex one) this was the first
time I didn't use the "Hyperconverged gluster wizard" (via cockpit), but
used the "hosted-engine --deploy" cli instead (which I usually use to
deploy single host setups).
The idea being: Deploy the first hosts (via cli) and then add the two
additional hosts via compute->host->create.
For some odd reason I seem to remember this method was an approved way of
deploying an hyperconverged gluster setup, in cases you don't want to let a
wizard create the gluster bricks. Am I wrong?

A. In case I'm wrong: How can I deploy a 3 host hyperconverged setup,
_while_ using the preexisting gluster bricks (data/export/iso)?

B. I did a clean redeploy (via cockpit -> hosted engine -> hosted engine
deploy) and the cluster version is still 4.4 (and given the fact it only
deploys a single host, there's no way to upgrade it to 4.5, as I cannot put
the host into maintenance and I cannot add additional hosts).

using IPMI in order to communicate with the management controller. Therefore
iLO3, iLO4 as well as IPMILAN fail to connect to a iLO-5 management controller.

But, there is no IPMI option in power management.

How can i enable power managemenet properly with iLO5 or IPMI?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Upgrade from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 (oVirt Node) - vdsmd.service/start failed with result 'dependency'

2020-12-24 Thread Marco Fais
Hi all,

I have just upgraded one of my oVirt nodes from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4.

After the reboot, the 4.4.4 image is correctly loaded but vdsmd is not
starting due to this error:

vdsmd.service: Job vdsmd.service/start failed with result 'dependency'.

Looks like it has a dependency on mom-vdsm, and this as well has a
dependency issue:

mom-vdsm.service: Job mom-vdsm.service/start failed with result
'dependency'.

After some investigation looks like mom-vdsm has a dependency
on ovsdb-server, and this is the unit creating the problem:

ovs-delete-transient-ports.service: Starting requested but asserts failed.

OVF_STORE is the kind of a disk that you can find on any storage domain,
it holds the entire OVFs of the entities in your data-center.
You can find more info here -

[ovirt-users] FW: oVirt 4.4 and Active directory

2020-12-24 Thread Latchezar Filtchev

Hello ,

I think I resolved this issue. It is dig response when resolving the domain
name!

CentOS-7 - bind-utils-9.11.4-16.P2.el7_8.6.x86_64; Windows AD level 2008R2; in
my case dig returns answer with

;; ANSWER SECTION:
mb118.local.   600 IN   A 192.168.1.7

IP address returned is address of DC

CentOS-8 - bind-utils-9.11.20-5.el8.x86_64; Same Domain Controller; dig returns
answer without ;;ANSWER SECTION e.g. IP address of DC cannot be identified.

The solution is to add directive '+nocookie', after '+tcp' in the file
/usr/share/ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap/setup/plugins/ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap/ldap/common.py

The section starts at line 144:

@staticmethod
def _resolver(plugin, record, what):
rc, stdout, stderr = plugin.execute(
args=(
(
plugin.command.get('dig'),
'+noall',
'+answer',
'+tcp',
'+nocookie',
what,
record
)
),
)
return stdout

With this change execution of ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup completes
successfully and joins fresh install of oVirt 4.4 to Active Directory.

If level of AD is 2016 '+nocookie' change is not needed.

Happy holydays to all of you!
Stay safe!

Thank you!
Best,
Latcho

Hello All,

Fresh standalone installation of oVirt 4.3 (CentOS 7) . Execution of
ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup completes normally and DC is connected to

Start debugging from the hosts that are not seen via "hosted-engine --
vm-status".
There are 2 log files to check:
/var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/{broker,agent}.log

Just check what they are complaining about.
Also , you need both ovirt-ha-broker.service and ovirt-ha-agent.service
up and running. If there is an issue, the ovirt-ha-agent is being
restarted (so it's expected behaviour).

Usually the broker should stop complaining and then the agent will kick
in.
