oVirt is not yet ready to be used on CentOS Stream 9.
Please use 8.

I didn't check recently, but I think the engine needs the
following patch before we can build it on 9 - not sure if
that's enough, though:

https://gerrit.ovirt.org/c/ovirt-engine/+/116811

If you are interested, help in moving this forward is most
welcome!

It is tested, and it's "safe" as in "Does what it's designed to do".

It's definitely not "safe" as in "riskless" - if you make a mistake,
you risk damage. I didn't use it myself recently, and do not remember
details anymore. It's definitely not something that you are supposed
to use/need casually.

If unsure, and if your environment is important to you (not just some
test/dev/learn thing), I warmly suggest to try this first on a test
env (can be done with nested-kvm VMs, no need for physical machines
for this).

That said, others on this list (and elsewhere) did use it successfully,
and I recommend again to search for examples/reports/experiences.

Good luck and best regards,

Hi,
this message is printed when the ansible code returns host unreachable.
So it might not be directly related to OVN, but probably has something to
do with the network issue.

@Martin Necas is there anything that needs to be done
to reset the host from an unreachable state?

[ovirt-users] Installing a windows vm from importing an OVA Template

2022-02-02 Thread moizr--- via Users
We are trying to create a windows vm on OLVM/OVirt. Below are the steps we
followed

 - Exported an OVF of a plain windows vm from vmware.
 - Imported it as an OVA to OLVM
 - Start the VM after change OS type to Windows 2016.

As soon as we select Windows 2016 the server doesnt start but works when we
make it as other OS. We want to automated provisioning and setup of the vm
through sysprep but the vm doesnt start once we select OS as Windows on the
template or any vm created out of that template.

Yes, thank you, you are absolutely right.

I had the CPU model set to "host-model" (where libvirt tries to create
a model approximating the host).  Changing it to "host-passthrough"
(ie. same as qemu -cpu host) fixed it and allowed me to install oVirt
node in the guest and activate it.

Rich.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt host issue

2022-02-02 Thread Ayansh Rocks
Hi All,

I was adding ovirt host into the cluster(along with the engine deploy
option) but somehow due to network issues it failed and then I removed the
host from the cluster. But I got the below error. What should I do ?

Ovirt Release - 4.4.9

Unconfiguring OVN on host iondelsvr12.iontrading.com might have failed.
Please ensure that the host is removed from the OVN Southbound database by
using '/usr/share/ovirt-provider-ovn/scripts/remove_chassis.sh
iondelsvr12.iontrading.com' manually.

2022-02-02 Thread Patrick Hibbs
You're getting multiple DMAR errors. That's related to your IOMMU
setup, which would be affected if you're turning VT on and off in the
BIOS.

That's not really LVM so much as it is something trying to remap your
storage device's PCI link after the filesystem was mounted. (Whether by
LVM, systemd, mount cmd from the terminal, etc.)
Which will cause the underlying block device to become unresponsive.
Even worse, it can make the FS get stuck unmounting and prevent a
reboot from succeeding after all of the consoles have been killed.
Requiring someone to power cycle the machine manually if it cannot be
fenced via some power distribution unit. (Speaking from experience
here...)

As for the issue itself, there's a couple of things you can try:

Try booting the machine in question with "intel_iommu=on iommu=pt" on
the kernel command line. That will put the IOMMU in passthrough mode
which may help.

Try moving the physical drives to a different port on the motherboard.
Some boards have different IOMMU groups for different ports even if
they are of the same kind. Regardless if it's AHCI / M.2 / etc.
If you have a real PCI RAID expansion card or something similar, you
could try checking the PCI link id it's using and moving it to another
link that does work. (Plug it into another PCI slot so it gets a
different IOMMU group assignment.)
If you're willing to spend money, maybe try getting a PCI AHCI / RAID
expansion card if you don't have one. That would at least give you more
options if you cannot move the drives to a different port.

Long term, the best option would be to move those gluster bricks to
another host that isn't acting as a VM hypervisor. These kinds of bugs
can crop up with kernel updates, and as the kernel's IOMMU support is
still kinda iffy, production-wise it's better to avoid the issue
entirely.

Rich.

[ovirt-users] migration infinite loop

2022-02-02 Thread Renaud RAKOTOMALALA
Hi,

I switch an host in "PreparingForMaintenance" state to prepare an
upgrade. In this stage the host migrating all VM but failed on one due
to a network's congestion.

Because the host try to migrate this VM and the constant failure of
the migration, we enter in an infinite loop.

How can I stop this loop ? I’m not able to cancel the mainteance mode
with the WebUI.

Any idea ?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Re: Ignore CPU_TYPE_UNSUPPORTED_IN_THIS_CLUSTER_VERSION ?

2022-02-02 Thread Juhani Rautiainen
Hi!

Maybe you have to modify qemu VM CPU settings? I mean that usually if
you don't see the svm flag on AMD CPU, virtualization is not
available. This page suggests changes to qemu CPU model:
https://techviewleo.com/how-to-enable-nested-virtualization-on-kvm-qemu/

I think that the "host-passthrough" setting should let all the CPU
flags go through to the VM
(https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/LibvirtXMLCPUModel).

If that doesn't do the trick then I'm fresh out of ideas.

I think so (I thought nested was always enabled on AMD), but let me check ...

This is on the host:

  $ cat /sys/module/kvm_amd/parameters/nested
  1

I believe that means yes.

Inside the guest (the oVirt node):

  $ cat /sys/module/kvm_amd/parameters/nested
cat: /sys/module/kvm_amd/parameters/nested: No such file or directory

but I believe that's correct since we're not trying to do double
nesting with KVM. TBH I don't care at all if the VMs run slowly (with
TCG) or even not at all. This is just for testing. I just want a way
to ignore the error and bring up the host.

2022-02-02 Thread Juhani Rautiainen
Hi!

You are running oVirt nested inside KVM? Have you enabled nested
virtualization in KVM? Didn't see any mention of that in the thread.
That might explain the missing svm flag.

Sadly that didn't fix the problem, I'm still getting:

Host ovirt4410 moved to Non-Operational state as host CPU type is not
supported in this cluster compatibility version or is not supported at all

and in engine.log:

  2022-02-02 13:35:01,713Z ERROR
[org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector]

ovirt4410-host moved to Non-Operational state as host CPU type is not supported
in this cluster compatibility version or is not supported at all

Mousing over the status, it says it's missing 'model_EPYC' and 'svm'
flags. The first one is weird because the emulated model in the guest
is:

model name : AMD EPYC-Rome Processor

The second one is correct because I guess KVM is masking this flag
from the guest:

flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat
pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt pdpe1gb rdtscp lm

smep bmi2 rdseed adx smap clflushopt clwb sha_ni xsaveopt xsavec xgetbv1 xsaves
clzero xsaveerptr wbnoinvd arat umip rdpid arch_capabilities

Is there not any way to ignore this stuff? I really don't care that
this node which is only going to be used for testing won't run VMs
optimally. For comparison VMware ESXi 7 also raised minimum CPU types
substantially, but offers a simple (unsupported) opt out.

Rich.

I created a new DC "Custom", checked compat level is 4.6.

Within that, created a new Cluster "Custom", arch is x86_64, and ..
you're right! It was a UI issue of some kind because now I see the
scrollbar on the right and there are many more machine types.

I selected AMD EPYC, so let's see how it goes creating a host.

[ovirt-users] Re: gluster and virtualization

2022-02-02 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
Most probably when virtualization is enabled vdsm services can start and they
create a lvm filter for your Gluster bricks.
Boot the system (most probably with virtualization disabled), move your entry
from /etc/fstab to a dedicated '.mount' unit and boot with the virt enabled.
Once booted with the flag enabled -> check the situation (for example blacklist
local disks in /etc/multipath/conf.d/blacklist.conf, check and adjust the LVM
filter, etc).

[ovirt-users] Re: Ignore CPU_TYPE_UNSUPPORTED_IN_THIS_CLUSTER_VERSION ?

2022-02-02 Thread Lucia Jelinkova
Hi,

The list should contain more items. Could you please try to create a new
cluster using UI, set the compatibility level to 4.6, architecture to
x86_64 and check the CPU Type dropdown again? Please try to scroll down the
dropdown and if there are no more values than you've already mentioned,
please try a different browser to rule out the possibility it is some kind
of UI issue.

If the UI looks fine, you may try to check the configuration values in the
database by running this DB query:

select option_value from vdc_options where option_name = 'ServerCPUList'
and version = '4.6';

The returned configuration should contain the AMD CPUs.

Please, share your findings.

Regards,

Lucia

Sadly, it's always 'It depends'.You definitely have to test with your workload.
One setup I see -> create a small replica volume for the OS of the VMs and a
second one (disperse volume) for the data disks.
Then, test and consider if it's enough for you.

I have two VMs - one for engine and one for node. They are both
running on the same physical host (using KVM).

I'm more confused here. I'm running what I believe to be the latest
oVirt engine (4.4.10.6-1.el8).

There are no AMD CPUs offered for cluster CPU type, only Intel CPUs:

Intel Nehalem Family
Secure Intel Nehalem Family
Intel Westmere Family
Secure Intel Westmere Family
Intel Sandybridge Family

(that's the complete list)

you have 16 developer self support subscriptions from RH, those are more than
enough to use with ovirt as a cluster/s.

2022-02-02 Thread Martin Perina
You cannot mix AMD and Intel processors in a cluster. So if you have an AMD
based host, then you need to add it to AMD cluster only

AMD EPYC support is available from 4.3 cluster level, so it should
definitely be available in the latest 4.6 CL

[ovirt-users] gluster and virtualization

2022-02-02 Thread eevans
My setup is 3 ovirt nodes that run gluster independently of the engine server,
even thought the engine still controls it. So 4 nodes, one engine and 3
clustered nodes.
This has been and running with no issues except this:
But now my arbiter node will not load the gluster drive when virtualization is
enable in the BIOS. I've been scratching my head on this and need some
direction.
I am attaching the error.

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvgvEzKKSZHbhMRQmUHDvv_Xv7dkhw?e=QGdfYR

Keep in mind, this error does not occur is VT is turned off..it boots normally.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

I'm planning to upgrade jenkins.ovirt.org to latest LTS version (2.319.2).
I moved jenkins to maintenance mode, so no new jobs can be started at the
moment. Planned upgrade start time 10AM UTC. Planned downtime - 30 minutes.

OK that operation is underway. I selected CPU type "Nehalem", that
being an ancient Intel CPU. The hardware is AMD and there were no AMD
options. I'll see if it installs anyway.
