It should work out of box, is it EL7 or Fedora? Could you please provide
logs? Like vdsm.log and host-deploy logs.

My suggestion for now is create this file in the hypervisor you are
trying to deploy: 'touch /etc/iscsi/initiatorname.iscsi' and continue the
deploy.

Yes, you might use manual settings or TUI tools like nmtui as any other
Linux distro.

It TUI thought to be back sometime or Cockpit will be the ongoing tool
for that ? (I find it nice the TUI interface too).

I don't see any movement to bring back oVirt TUI. At moment, the Cockpit
is the preferable.

was being redesign but that seems old.

Or do I understand correctly and everything is now handled by Cockpit ?

That's correct. Cockpit is the preferred option.

Then if I have no network CLI is my friend ?

Not sure if I understood the question but in Cockpit, there is Network
tab. Web-browser: NODE_IP_ADDRESS:9090 -> Networking

Or are looking for something like nmcli/nmtui?

Re: [ovirt-users] Add host to oVirt: unprovisioned without using username/password in vdsm-tool

I would suggest:

# vdsm-tool register --engine-fqdn myengine.localdomain

or without the check of fqdn:

# vdsm-tool register --engine-fqdn IP_ADDRESS --check-fqdn false

Later you might want to approve the host via GUI, SDK or REST API.

A quick example of rest api:
https://github.com/dougsland/ovirt-restapi-scripts/commit/91dcb3fcd2cae6570aed06dc3471c4d79caefbc8

The idea how I used it was very plain and simple, the host exists in
oVirt but was unprovisioned, you clicked install and there it went. If
that would be possible again or is in some way I would like to know.

It's not JUST a fingerprint. It's the fingerprint of a SSH key we use for
the authentication.

What is also the case is that I want to decide in the engine if it's
valid to be provisioned or not.

So don't add that SSH key to hosts that you don't want to provision.
We don't have this extra phase of 'approving a host when you add it'.
If you have permissions to add a host, it'll be added - via the Engine, by
the Engine.

Security wise it's not ideal if you ask me, that is why I did it using
the URL, http/https was possible.

No clue there ?

I'm probably missing the use case here.
Y.

Thanks!

Which kernel version is running in the system?
Have you tried any other kernel version?

The 2 adapters are in bonding active-backup mode.
They are on vlan, so on hypervisor I have bond1.65 device and in vm the
virtual interface is untagged

[root@ovmsrv05 ~]# ifconfig bond1.65

Currently Active Slave: enp7s4f0

After a few minutes I loose connectivity with the guest. In this case if
I go in guest console and ping the gateway, the connection is resumed.
And I can maintain it if I leave the ping running, otherwise after a
little I again loose connectivity.
I suspect it is not important but the guest is Oracle Linux 6.5 with
3.8.13-16.2.1.el6uek.x86_64 kernel. The adapter for the vnic is the
default; the qemu-kvm command line generated contains this:
-netdev tap,fd=29,id=hostnet0,vhost=on,vhostfd=30 -device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=hostnet0,id=net0,mac=00:1a:4a:16:01:51,bus=pci.0,addr=0x3

Any error in the guest side like timeouts in messages/journald?
Have you tried different guest OS for a test only?

Adding Dan, he might have others ideas.

I seem to remember some years ago when I used the same blades with plain
qemu-kvm/libvirt I had to make up an ethtool setting for similar
problems, but I don't remember what it was... and possibly I used bnx2
kernel module with the other embedded network interfaces, I'm not sure...
Currently, the configuration for adapter on the blade is

That's correct, in 4.0 we register the host from engine.

When I try to add host from engine, it is reporting as the
target is a hypervisor host and terminating the setup. How do I proceed
further?

If you have the host up, you need to setup your storage, create disks
and finally the virtual machines.

In case you have any problem during the registration/deploy of host, in
engine, we have the events window (below window) with the log of deploy.
The full logs are also in engine machine:
/var/log/ovirt-engine/host-deploy/*.

I hope that helps.

error when I try to install it on the server it fails during the install
the first time the script it self failed, the second time it couldn't
find the hard drive to install on. I am not sure what's going on I am
very confused now.

What's the hardware? In the installer fail screen, could you please
press F2 go to shell and grab/see the logs in /var/log/ ?

You can also test the last available image from jenkins:

There are proposal patches in the bugzilla, I have requested more

As soon I have updates, I will reply here.

For now, if you have the hardware and want to give a test against our
latest upstream build jobs, links below:

ovirt-node 3.6:

Log in as root as see if you can see any messages from ixgbe

currently have an open support case for RHEL7.2 and the ixgbe

First, I would recommend to put your host into maintenance mode so all
vms are migrated to others hosts.
There are many ways to upgrade ovirt-node vintage, you can boot the iso,
via ovirt-engine or using directly the ovirt-node-upgrade tool

which btw is called via ovirt-engine.

However, we do not support upgrade from ovirt-node vintage to
ovirt-node-*ng* (next).
You can download the ovirt node vintage 3.6 and use the below methods or
ovirt-node-upgrade tool as you shared.

To download oVirt Node 3.6:
  ISO or RPM:
http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-node_ovirt-3.6_create-iso-el7_merged/

From: https://www.ovirt.org/develop/projects/node/node/:

   Upgrading

There are 2 general methods for upgrading an ovirt-node installation.

*1*. Through oVirt Engine

Require the installation of ovirt-node-iso rpm on oVirt Engine. A node
is then placed in maintenance mode, and you trigger the upgrade from the
engine interface.

*2*. Through oVirt Node installation media (ISO, CD, USB, PXE)

This approach is done using installation media. Simply boot your host
running an old version of node from new media. Either PXE, CDROM, USB,
SD card, ISO, etc. are supported. Once you boot from the media, it will
bring you to a TUI screen where you choose upgrade. That will upgrade
and leave existing configuration in place.

I hope that helps.

Looks like your host is in fail not in maintenance, you can force it
with the below commands and later remove it.

step#1
On Engine machine:

$ su - postgres
$ psql -d engine
engine# update vds_dynamic set status=2 where vds_id in (select vds_id
from vds_static where vds_name LIKE '%THE_NODE_HOST_NAME%');

step#2
Go back to admin portal, your host will be in maint. and you should be
able to remove it.

Please keep the list in the reply for other people might help and
provide the logs from engine/vdsm.

It's not secret, it's open source software.

You can remove the iso manually:

Just mount the NFS server which provide the export for ISOs. As soon you

holds the ISOs.

(In the case where it's not an issue of a non-unique ID, but rather no

Although we provided the uuid option in vdsm-tool register verb to users

Note the high last check maximum value (e.g. 102 seconds).

Vdsm has a monitor thread for each domain, doing a read from one of the storage
domain special disk every 10 seconds. When we see high last check value, it
means that the monitor thread is stuck reading from the disk.

This is an indicator that vms may have trouble accessing this storage domains,
and engine is handling this by making the host non-operational, or if all hosts
cannot access the domain, making the domain inactive.

One of the known issues that can be related, is bad multipath configuration.
Some
storage server have bad builtin configuration embedded into multipath. In
particular,
using no_path_retry queue, or no_path_retry 60. This setting means that when
the SCSI layer fails, and multipath does not have any active path it will queue
io foerver (queue), or retry many times (e.g, 60) before failing the io request.

This can lead to stuck process, doing a read or write that never fails or takes
many minutes to fail. Vdsm is not designed to handle such delays - a stuck
thread
may block other unrelated threads.

Vdsm includes special configuration for your storage vendor (COMPELNT), but
maybe
it does not match the product (Compellent Vol).
See
https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm/blob/master/lib/vdsm/tool/configurators/multipath.py#L57

 device {
 vendor COMPELNT
 product Compellent Vol
 no_path_retry fail
 }

Another issue may be that the setting for COMPELNT/Compellent Vol are wrong;
the setting we ship is missing lot of settings that exists in the builtin
setting, and this may have bad effect. If your devices match this , I would
try this multipath configuration, instead of the one vdsm configures.

device {
vendor COMPELNT
product Compellent Vol
path_grouping_policy multibus
path_checker tur
features 0
hardware_handler 0
prio const
failback immediate
rr_weight uniform
no_path_retry fail
}

To verify that your devices match this, you can check the devices vendor and
procut
strings in the output of multipath -ll. I would like to see the output of this
command.

Another platform issue is bad default SCSI
node.session.timeo.replacement_timeout
value, which is set to 120 seconds. This setting mean that the SCSI layer will
wait 120 seconds for io to complete on one path, before failing the io request.
So you may have one bad path, causing 120 second delay, while you could complete
the request using another path.

Multipath is trying to set this value to 5 seconds, but this value is reverting
to the default 120 seconds after a device has trouble. There is an open bug
about
this

I've been struggling with oVirt completely falling apart due to storage

suddenly losing contact with the storage domains. This results in an
endless loop of the VMs on the failed nodes trying to be migrated and

oVirt Node is a 'ready to go' option, as soon you complete the
installation it will have all packages needed for the hypervisor in a
read-only OS (focused in oVirt), using less space possible. It also
contain the Text User Interface (TUI) that helps administrators to do
management tasks, like initial network, hosted-engine, etc. On the other
hand, adding CentOS/Fedora and others distros as hypervisor via Engine
will automatically download the packages needed. In this case,
configuring hosted-engine and others management options will obviously
without the TUI.

To upgrade the ovirt-node as read-only distro, you can:

- boot the new iso into the system
- Download and install the new ovirt-node RPM into engine and trigger
the upgrade via engine.

We provide nightly builds for testing:

Fell free to reach us with your experience using the oVirt Node.

My guess is that at some point the MD5 hash changed, or something in the
metadata for that Domain, but I don't know if this is the problem and if
recreating the signature is possible without breaking my existing
configuration.

Is there anyway to mark it as UP from the database or at any other level
without breaking (more) the config?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Carlos,

Can you please attach the vdsm/engine logs to have people investigating
what's happened in your environment?

Thanks!

Hey

Did you check if libvirtd services is up?
can you share libvirtd.conf file?
I'm not sure what is exactly the issue, but you can try vdsm-tool
configure --module libvirt command to see if you set the vdsm
configuration for libvirt as required.

I see the same thing with a new 3.5-beta install.  libvirtd is running;
I ran the above vdsm-tool command, but that made no difference.

The problem is that /usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/vdsm/constants.py
(from vdsm-python-4.16.0-3.git601f786.el6.x86_64) sets EXT_SASLPASSWD2
to /sbin/saslpasswd2, but the binary is actually in /usr/sbin.

I fixed that and manually set the password (and fixed the ovirt-ha* init
scripts), but still can't deploy a 3.5-beta hosted engine. When
configuring the management bridge, it leaves the interface down (both
the bridge and the underlying interface); I brought them back up, but
the setup then hits this:

[ INFO ] Verifying sanlock lockspace initialization
[ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Misc configuration': [Errno 2] No

I see this in the setup log:

run: uuidgen /etc/vdsm/vdsm.id
This will generate a new id which should be different from the previous

Test Data
===
Running oVirt 3.5 with Power Management enabled in hosts when selecting

My understanding from bugzilla:
This RFE is to change label Slot to Service Profile on the GUI when

misunderstand and enter blade number which ends up in a failure for fencing

I have tested in my laptop, no real fencing tested.

Question:
Is it a EL6 hosts? If yes, are you using qemu-kvm from:

Thanks!

How i make debug in vdsm ?

did the meeting start on time today?
I added the oVirt Calender to my e-mail client, and in there it says that the
meeting starts at 10:00 AM EDT
(17:00 TLV), although it actually started in 11:00 AM EDT (18:00 TLV) - see
attached.

starting next week: will the meeting take place at 10:00 AM EDT (17:00 TLV)? if
not - there might be something
wrong with the oVirt meeting calendar event, at least for USA people.

The same for me.

[Users] [oVirt 3.4.0 beta 2/Test Day] - iproute2 configurator

2014-02-12 Thread Douglas Schilling Landgraf

Hi,

I have tested iproute2:

Test:
==
- Deployed Host (EL family)
- put in maintenance
- on host changed vdsm.conf to:
[addresses]
management_port = 54321

[vars]
ssl = true
net_configurator = iproute2
net_persistence = unified

- put host up
- Added the network (net25)
  - Networks - New - Name: net25 [X] Enable VLAN tagging: 25

- On host added dummy interface:
  # ip link add name dummy_interface type dummy

- Put host in maintenance/up to reload the new nic

- Hosts tab - Network interfaces - setup hosts networks
Added the network net25 to dummy interface
  [OK]

- Added more networks (- Networks - New) and more dummy interface at host
- Put host in maintenance/up to reload the new nic
- Added bond via Hosts tab - Network interfaces
  [X] Save network configuration

so far ok, moved the host to maintenance and rebooted. Host is back with
the interfaces but vdsm doesn't start (opened below bug).

vdsm cannot start - iproute2: device ovirtmgmt already exists; can't
create bridge with the same name

Hi Robert, I think you can still install 3.3.2 on your clusters with the
requirement of adding
manually oython-cpopen before trying to install vdsm.

About 3.3.3, I think vdsm should really drop dependency on vdsm-python-cpopen:
it's a package obsoleted by python-cpopen so there's no point in still
requiring it especially if keeping that requirement still break dependency
resolution.

I really wanted to avoid eliminating a subpackage during a micro
release. That's impolite and surprising.
But given the awkward yum bug, persistent dependency problems, and
the current release delay, I give up.

Let's eliminate vdsm-python-cpopen from ovirt-3.3 branch, and require
python-cpopen. Yaniv, Douglas: could you handle it?

Sure. Done: http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/23942/

Acked. Could you cherry-pick it into dist-git and rebuild the
ovirt-3.3.3 candidate (and without other changes that can wait for
ovirt-3.3.4).

[Users] oVirt 3.4 - testing days report [iproute2 configurator]

2014-01-27 Thread Douglas Schilling Landgraf

Hi,

During the tests I have faced the below bug:

vdsm-4.14.1-2 unable to restart on reboot after a network is defined on
ovirt-node

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1057657

Additionally (not related to iproute2 tests), I have faced:

[RFE] report BOOTPROTO and BONDING_OPTS independent of netdevice.cfg
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=987813
(I have workaround creating manually ifcfg-em1 and ifcfg-ovirtmgmt)

firefox seg faults when using the Admin Portal on RHEL 6.5
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1044010
(Updated to firefox-24.2.0-6.el6_5.x86_64 resolved the problem.)

Test data for iproute2:

- Setup Node - put it in maintenance
- Changed the vdsm.conf on node to:

[vars]
ssl = true
net_configurator = iproute2
net_persistence = unified

[addresses]
management_port = 54321

- Restart vdsm/supervdsm
- Host is UP again, no problems

- DataCenter - Logical Network - New
  - Name: net25 - [x] Enable Vlan tagging [ ] VM Network

- Since I have just one nic at host I have added dummy interface.
#ip link add name dummy_interface type dummy

- Put the host in maintenance and put again UP to recognize the new
interface

- Host - Network - Setup Host Networks
  - drag/drop net25 to dummy_interace
  - [x] save network interface

On host vdsClient -s 0 getVdsCaps appears [net25]

* Rebooted to check if the new net25 will be persistent.

Is there already a wiki explaining how to relax logging level?
I think that if we think it is now able to be production ready, this
implies changing default log level.
Right today it is difficult to understand logs because of verbosity,
in my opinion.
Best if in upcoming 3.3.2 release this could take place.
Anyway someone could always leverage the level as he/she needs...

What do you think about it?

IMO, looks reasonable. Could you please be more specific and share which
messages are flooding the log files? Would be nice if you open a
bugzilla request [1] based on component (vdsm/ovirt-engine) to get it
tracked.

Whether I do a regular install (default boot screen option) or choose
'reinstall' from the troubleshooting menu I get tripped up at the same spot.
When it comes time to select a keyboard layout (I think this is correct)
US English is the default. I press enter at that point and after a
short delay there is a very uninformative error message that appears. I
can't remember what it is off the top of my head and the systems are at
work (I'm at home now).
After this point I can continue but the install fails immediately after
I get past the install target selection screen.
Has anyone successfully installed a node using this iso image?
I even tried removing partitions from the drive beforehand, to the point
of dd'ing the first 512 bytes to make sure there was no partition table.
This didn't help - I still ran into the install error described above.

I particularly wanted to try an FC19 based node to try out live storage
migration on NFS, as I was having problems with the EL6.4 node with this.
Is there a chance that that issue might be resolved for EL6 based nodes
by an upcoming new EL6.5 based node spin?

Sorry I cannot provide the exact error details for the install issue
now, but I can get the error detail in the next couple of days if required.

Thanks,
Paul

This time the install seems to work.
Unfortunately when it comes up the SSH service doesn't seem to be
working. When I try and ssh to the machine I get the following:
Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer

The above was after configuring the node for an Ovirt engine, accepting
the certificate and entering a password.
The ovirt web GUI shows this node as non responsive.

One time it required a future
selinux-policy, although the needed selinux fix was delivered in a much
lower version. Now the rpms have broken requirements. It requires
hostname instead of /bin/hostname. This broken requirement is not
included in the vdsm 3.3 branch, so I wonder where it comes from?

Indeed, that's bad. It has been included from a patch only on Fedora

Not really, actually,

shouldn't be included in the previous build and it was during the spec

I did a new build on rawhide right now and the workaround is not needed

We should be fine with vdsm-4.13.0-11 or higher.

I would like to receive feedback regarding how we should cope with a state
presented to use by Fedora.

Fedora-19 minimal setup does not install tar utility which is required to deploy
files during the host-deploy process (Hosts-Add Host).

I guess because of 2.8M in size (including translations) -- a standard commonly
used utility was removed.

How about filing bug on that? This is such a basic utility I can't imagine
anyone removing it.

+1 I do agree with Michael. I have opened a thread in fedora devel
mailing list anyway.

There are three alternatives :

1. Instruct users who are using minimal installations to manually install tar
utility just like they configure repository, dns, etc..

Benefit: simplicity.
Benefit: use standard tools.
Benefit: lower payload to transmit.
Drawback: require tar at destination machine.

2. Do not use tar but self extracting python script, a patch is ready[1].

Benefit: ability to deploy environment in which tar is missing.
Drawback: non standard tool at destination machine.
Drawback: complexity within our code.

3. Do not use tar but cpio, a patch is ready[2].

Benefit: simplicity.
Benefit: use standard tools.
Benefit: lower payload to transmit.
Benefit: ability to use Fedora-19 minimal.
Drawback: cpio is even less common than tar, even if it exists in Fedora-19 it
can be removed without anyone notice.
Drawback: most other distributions will not have cpio in their minimal
installation.

[[[
There was 4rd alternative, using python tar module to deploy tar.
However, there is a bug in that module when processing last block if empty.
This is edge condition but happened to at least one of the users and I could
reproduce it.

Any feedbacks you got so far?

Well, I think we have increased the project visibility.
Last year (our first participation in FISL) we were a small group in a
booth distributing stickers and without any talks at main conference
program because they were not approved. This year, besides an improved
booth we had a bigger group (around 20 people RedHat + Community) and
many keynotes in the main FISL program, including making oVirt work with
others open source projects such as Spacewalk and Gluster.

Besides the growth mentioned above, it's also important to mention
that we heard from some visitors we met last year that oVirt is
already running on their companies and at least 2 colleges sharing that
they will implement oVirt as solution.

For me that's the biggest feedback.
