[ovirt-users] Warning alert: Failed to parse server certificates
After an update 2 days ago we no longer able to log into the oVirt console. The certificate was expiring, so we ran the system update and the ovirt-engine update as well. It went fine and re-issued (upgraded) certificates. After the work was done, we no longer able to log into the WEB UI. The error we get on the screen is 'Failed to parse server certificates'. After an attempt to login as local administrator, it reverts back to landing page with the same error. Any help is appreciated at this time. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/ZJO3UF7ECUFK4GMSK64LQPQB46LMQFS5/

Thanks Michael. I am further on, the engine is running an now at stage 4 Storage. I have a new FC lun with 2 paths on the install node, recently attached with no partitions, when I select Storage Type Fiber Channel and press Discover, I see two disks. [ovirt-users] oVirt 4.4 install fails
Hi All Not sure where to start, but here goes. I'm not totally new to oVirt, I used RHEV V3.x in production for several years, it was a breeze to setup. Installing 4.4 on to a host with local SSD and FC for storage. Issue 1, having selected the SSD for install which has failed 4.4 beta on it (several times), I reclaim the space and after a few minutes of not being able to enter a root password on the next install screen, it fails as it can't delete the data on the SSD! Yes, really tried this several times, choosing the recover option and getting a prompt, fdisk /dev/sda delete the two partitions created by oVirt and I can install. This was the case with the beta I tried a few weeks ago too. Having reconfigured the switch attached the the host as a dumb 10GBE port as the enterprise OS installer still doesn't appear to support anything more advanced like teaming and VLANS, I have the initial install on the single SSD and a network connection. Issue 2, I use FF 72.0.2 on Linux x64 to connect by https://hostname:9090 to the web interface, but I can't enter login details as the boxes (everything) are disabled There is no warning like "we don't like your choice of browser", but the screen is a not very accessible dark grey on darker grey (a poor choice in what I thought were more enlightened times) so this maybe the case. I have disabled all security add-ons in FF, makes no difference. Any suggestions? [ovirt-users] Re: Hosted engine setup: "Failed to configure management network on host Local due to setup networks failure"
"trade-off between time [developing] and time spent debugging such cases when they do happen" Your call. All I know is, it took me over a month to install oVirt, including three weeks of one-to-one time with Simone Tiraboschi from Red Hat. He sent me eleven emails but eventually gave up, baffled as me. It shouldn't be this hard. Others who are having this or similar problems will just abandon oVirt: ("I'm just wondering if I should cut my losses with oVirt"): https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/PZJYNAKPYNQUTTNAXG57HTMQHATWYQGZ/ The biggest challenge is to find the relevant error. What would be useful is a log aggregator. If oVirt had a journalctl type app running on the host that tails ALL the logs including the engine logs from hosted-engine (via ssh), everything would be in one place and easy to spot. Currently, you need fairly detailed knowledge of the architecture and install process to (i) find the log files (ii) whittle down to the one displaying the problem. Yes, I know you guys have a log-packaging app that compresses them up, so they can be sent to Red Hat for inspection (does this even include hosted-engine logs?). But with a journalling app, users would be able to spot the error themselves and most of the time (if it's not a new bug), fix it on their own like I did. And yes, I know once set up, users will have their own log aggregator in the form of Kibana, Splunk, etc but these don't help during the initial install. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/4732OJ7DJFKI474B5TZOYGP4GXBRPTZS/

Googling the pertinent text from the above long error: duplicate key value violates unique constraint "name_server_pkey" led me to this bug report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1530944 and the discovery I had a duplicate DNS IP address in /etc/resolv.conf Removing this and adding the host again worked :-) But it shouldn't have been this hard to install oVirt. May I suggest tolarance of duplicate DNS IPs be added? In above bug report, Yaniv Kaul says won't fix because it's user error. Perhaps, but the oVirt installer should do a modicum of hand-holding IMO. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/FAIHQ5CTMBNE2MHVOC6IAQBXCNJ2UINZ/

I'm having the same\similar problem. See thread I've just created: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/J65PSDSA2HR4KOCKR4J6GXKOSPNSU54H/ After the setup process fails, you should be able to browse to the oVirt webui https://:6900, you'll see your host is in state "unassigned". You'll also be able to browse to your host UI: https://:9090 and access the engine VM console. Does it have an IP on the 192.168 range or your main bridge network range? I've read reports that others have had success within the oVirt webui (https://:6900): Compute – Hosts – Click on your Host and then click the Network Interfaces tab and “Setup Host Networks” button. Add the ovirtmgmt management network to the appropriate interface. But this didn't work for me (errored when trying to save change). [ovirt-users] Re: Diary of hosted engine install woes
I'ved added a record to the DNS server here: ovirt-engine.example.com 10.0.0.109 This IP address is on the physical network that the host is on (host is on 10.0.0.171). I trust this is correct and I should not resolve to a natted IP instead. I notice that regardless of this record, the name ovirt-engine.example.com resolves to a natted IP: 192.168.124.51 because the ansible script adds an entry to /etc/hosts: 192.168.124.51 ovirt-engine.example.com While the script is running, if I I can successfully ping ovirt-engine.example.com, it responds on 192.168.124.51. So as you say: "host can correctly resolve the name of the engine VM", but it's not the DNS record's IP. If I remove the DNS record and run hosted-engine --deploy, I get error: [ ERROR ] Host name is not valid: ovirt-engine.example.com did not resolve into an IP address Anyway, I added back the DNS record and ran hosted-engine --deploy command, it failed at: [ INFO ] TASK [Clean /etc/hosts on the host] [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"msg": "The task includes an option with an undefined variable. The error was: list object has no element 0\n\nThe error appears to have been in '/usr/share/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/ansible/create_target_vm.yml': line 396, column 5, but may\nbe elsewhere in the file depending on the exact syntax problem.\n\nThe offending line appears to be:\n\nchanged_when: True\n - name: Clean /etc/hosts on the host\n^ here\n"} To debug, I added tasks to create_target_vm.yml that output the values of local_vm_ip.std_out_lines[0] and FQDN that are used in this task, then ran the usual deploy command again. They are both localhost: [ INFO ] TASK [show local_vm_ip.std_out_lines[0] that will be written to etc hosts] [ INFO ] ok: [localhost] [ INFO ] TASK [show FQDN] [ INFO ] ok: [localhost] This time, it gets past [Clean /etc/hosts on the host], but hangs at [ INFO ] TASK [Check engine VM health] same as before. I catted /etc/hosts while it was hanging and it contains: 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4 ::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6 The ovirt-engine.example.com has been deleted! I pinged ovirt-engine.example.com and it now resolves to its IP on the physical network: 10.0.0.109. So I added back this /etc/hosts entry: 192.168.124.51 ovirt-engine.example.com It subsequently errored: [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"attempts": 120, "changed": true, "cmd": ["hosted-engine", "--vm-status", "--json"], "delta": "0:00:00.167559", "end": "2018-10-09 15:43:41.947274", "rc": 0, "start": "2018-10-09 15:43:41.779715", "stderr": "", "stderr_lines": [], "stdout": "{\"1\": {\"conf_on_shared_storage\": true, \"live-data\": true, \"extra\": \"metadata_parse_version=1\\nmetadata_feature_version=1\\ntimestamp=6810 (Tue Oct 9 15:43:36 2018)\\nhost-id=1\\nscore=3400\\nvm_conf_refresh_time=6810 (Tue Oct 9 15:43:37 2018)\\nconf_on_shared_storage=True\\nmaintenance=False\\nstate=EngineStarting\\nstopped=False\\n\", \"hostname\": \"host\", \"host-id\": 1, \"engine-status\": {\"reason\": \"failed liveliness check\", \"health\": \"bad\", \"vm\": \"up\", \"detail\": \"Up\"}, \"score\": 3400, \"stopped\": false, \"maintenance\": false, \"crc32\": \"c5d76f8b\", \"local_conf_timestamp\": 6810, \"host-ts\": 6810}, \"global_maintenance\": false}", "stdout_lines": ["{\"1\": {\"conf_ on_shared_storage\": true, \"live-data\": true, \"extra\": \"metadata_parse_version=1\\nmetadata_feature_version=1\\ntimestamp=6810 (Tue Oct 9 15:43:36 2018)\\nhost-id=1\\nscore=3400\\nvm_conf_refresh_time=6810 (Tue Oct 9 15:43:37 2018)\\nconf_on_shared_storage=True\\nmaintenance=False\\nstate=EngineStarting\\nstopped=False\\n\", \"hostname\": \"host\", \"host-id\": 1, \"engine-status\": {\"reason\": \"failed liveliness check\", \"health\": \"bad\", \"vm\": \"up\", \"detail\": \"Up\"}, \"score\": 3400, \"stopped\": false, \"maintenance\": false, \"crc32\": \"c5d76f8b\", \"local_conf_timestamp\": 6810, \"host-ts\": 6810}, \"global_maintenance\": false}"]} How can I check the hosted-engine's IP address to ensure name resolution is correct? ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/SVBXIBLS5TSP7SZROSSE6JD5ICBZLV3E/

Hangs for around 10 minutes at: [ INFO ] TASK [Check engine VM health] The hosted-engine-setup-ansible-create_target_vm log has: 2018-10-08 23:42:01,664+0100 INFO ansible task start {'status': 'OK', 'ansible_task': u'Check engine VM health', 'ansible_playbook': u'/usr/share/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/ansible/create_target_vm.yml', 'ansible_type': 'task'} Then repeats the following line for around 10 minutes: 2018-10-08 23:42:01,866+0100 DEBUG ansible on_any args kwargs Before eventually, the console outputs the following error: [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"attempts": 120, "changed": true, "cmd": ["hosted-engine", "--vm-status", "--json"], "delta": "0:00:00.167677", "end": "2018-10-08 23:53:11.112436", "rc": 0, "start": "2018-10-08 23:53:10.944759", "stderr": "", "stderr_lines": [], "stdout": "{\"1\": {\"conf_on_shared_storage\": true, \"live-data\": true, \"extra\": \"metadata_parse_version=1\\nmetadata_feature_version=1\\ntimestamp=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nhost-id=1\\nscore=3400\\nvm_conf_refresh_time=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nconf_on_shared_storage=True\\nmaintenance=False\\nstate=EngineStarting\\nstopped=False\\n\", \"hostname\": \"host\", \"host-id\": 1, \"engine-status\": {\"reason\": \"failed liveliness check\", \"health\": \"bad\", \"vm\": \"up\", \"detail\": \"Up\"}, \"score\": 3400, \"stopped\": false, \"maintenance\": false, \"crc32\": \"75452be7\", \"local_conf_timestamp\": 49491, \"host-ts\": 49491}, \"global_maintenance\": false}", "stdout_lines": ["{\"1\": {\"c onf_on_shared_storage\": true, \"live-data\": true, \"extra\": \"metadata_parse_version=1\\nmetadata_feature_version=1\\ntimestamp=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nhost-id=1\\nscore=3400\\nvm_conf_refresh_time=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nconf_on_shared_storage=True\\nmaintenance=False\\nstate=EngineStarting\\nstopped=False\\n\", \"hostname\": \"host\", \"host-id\": 1, \"engine-status\": {\"reason\": \"failed liveliness check\", \"health\": \"bad\", \"vm\": \"up\", \"detail\": \"Up\"}, \"score\": 3400, \"stopped\": false, \"maintenance\": false, \"crc32\": \"75452be7\", \"local_conf_timestamp\": 49491, \"host-ts\": 49491}, \"global_maintenance\": false}"]} [ INFO ] TASK [Check VM status at virt level] The hosted-engine-setup-ansible-create_target_vm log shows the following when this error occurs: 2018-10-08 23:53:11,812+0100 DEBUG var changed: host "localhost" var "ansible_failed_result" type "" value: "{ "_ansible_no_log": false, "_ansible_parsed": true, "attempts": 120, "changed": true, "cmd": [ "hosted-engine", "--vm-status", "--json" ], "delta": "0:00:00.167677", "end": "2018-10-08 23:53:11.112436", "failed": true, "invocation": { "module_args": { "_raw_params": "hosted-engine --vm-status --json", "_uses_shell": false, "argv": null, "chdir": null, "creates": null, "executable": null, "removes": null, "stdin": null, "warn": true } }, "rc": 0, "start": "2018-10-08 23:53:10.944759", "stderr": "", "stderr_lines": [], "stdout": "{\"1\": {\"conf_on_shared_storage\": true, \"live-data\": true, \"extra\": \"metadata_parse_version=1\\nmetadata_feature_version=1\\ntimestamp=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nhost-id=1\\nscore=3400\\nvm_conf_refresh_time=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nconf_on_shared_storage=True\\nmaintenance=False\\nstate=EngineStarting\\nstopped=False\\n\", \"hostname\": \"host\", \"host-id\": 1, \"engine-status\": {\"reason\": \"failed liveliness check\", \"health\": \"bad\", \"vm\": \"up\", \"detail\": \"Up\"}, \"score\": 3400, \"stopped\": false, \"maintenance\": false, \"crc32\": \"75452be7\", \"local_conf_timestamp\": 49491, \"host-ts\": 49491}, \"global_maintenance\": false}", "stdout_lines": [ "{\"1\": {\"conf_on_shared_storage\": true, \"live-data\": true, \"extra\": \"metadata_parse_version=1\\nmetadata_feature_version=1\\ntimestamp=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nhost-id=1\\nscore=3400\\nvm_conf_refresh_time=49491 (Mon Oct 8 23:53:03 2018)\\nconf_on_shared_storage=True\\nmaintenance=False\\nstate=EngineStarting\\nstopped=False\\n\", \"hostname\": \"host\", \"host-id\": 1, \"engine-status\": {\"reason\": \"failed liveliness check\", \"health\": \"bad\", \"vm\": \"up\", \"detail\": \"Up\"}, \"score\": 3400, \"stopped\": false, \"maintenance\": false, \"crc32\": \"75452be7\", \"local_conf_timestamp\": 49491, \"host-ts\": 49491}, \"global_maintenance\": false}" ] }" 2018-10-08 23:53:11,813+0100 DEBUG var changed: host "localhost" var "ansible_failed_task" type "" value: "{ "action": "command", "any_errors_fatal": false,

[ovirt-users] Re: Diary of hosted engine install woes
Okay, the above failure at "TASK [Clean /etc/hosts on the host]" seems to have been due to the fact I hadn't emptied the shared NFS storage after the last attempt. After fresh-installing node and emptying (rm -rf *), it proceeded a few steps further to: [ INFO ] TASK [Clean /etc/hosts on the host] [ INFO ] changed: [localhost] [ INFO ] TASK [Add an entry in /etc/hosts for the target VM] [ INFO ] skipping: [localhost] [ INFO ] TASK [Start ovirt-ha-broker service on the host] [ INFO ] changed: [localhost] [ INFO ] TASK [Initialize lockspace volume] [ INFO ] changed: [localhost] [ INFO ] TASK [Start ovirt-ha-agent service on the host] [ INFO ] changed: [localhost] [ INFO ] TASK [Check engine VM health] Then hung. Eventually I killed it by pressing ctrl-C. Ran the usual install again (hosted-engine --deploy --config-append=/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/answers/answers.conf) in case of anomaly. [ovirt-users] Diary of hosted engine install woes
Hi, I've been attempting to install hosted engine intermittently for months without success. I have raised and had one bug fixed (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1622240) and am hitting various other problems. I've freshly installed oVirt Node v4.2.7 (Second Release Candidate). I have launched the webui and configured an XOR bond. Then using the following answer file, I attempt to install hosted engine using command: hosted-engine --deploy --config-append=/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/answers/answers.conf Where answers contains: [environment:default] OVEHOSTED_CORE/deployProceed=bool:True OVEHOSTED_CORE/rollbackProceed=none:None OVEHOSTED_CORE/screenProceed=bool:True OVEHOSTED_CORE/upgradeProceed=none:None OVEHOSTED_ENGINE/clusterName=str:Default OVEHOSTED_ENGINE/enableHcGlusterService=none:None OVEHOSTED_ENGINE/insecureSSL=none:None OVEHOSTED_NETWORK/bridgeName=str:ovirtmgmt OVEHOSTED_NETWORK/fqdn=str:ovirt-engine.example.com OVEHOSTED_NETWORK/gateway=str:10.0.0.1 OVEHOSTED_NOTIF/destEmail=str:m...@example.com OVEHOSTED_NOTIF/smtpPort=str:25 OVEHOSTED_NOTIF/smtpServer=str:smtp.emailprovider.com OVEHOSTED_NOTIF/sourceEmail=str:ad...@example.com OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/LunID=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/discardSupport=bool:False OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/domainType=str:nfs OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/iSCSIDiscoverUser=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/iSCSIPortal=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/iSCSIPortalIPAddress=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/iSCSIPortalPort=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/iSCSIPortalUser=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/iSCSITargetName=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/imgSizeGB=str:50 OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/imgUUID=str:4ff5a24d-7993-4be3-9301-e829030f9dc1 OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/lockspaceImageUUID=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/lockspaceVolumeUUID=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/metadataImageUUID=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/metadataVolumeUUID=none:None OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/mntOptions=str: OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/nfsVersion=str:auto OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/storageDomainConnection=str:nas.example.com:/export/ovirt_share OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/storageDomainName=str:hosted_storage OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/volUUID=str:b8e5d967-4ffc-452d-8001-fa9369a6a11b OVEHOSTED_VM/automateVMShutdown=bool:True OVEHOSTED_VM/cdromUUID=str:c4b91916-c96b-47cd-a945-5d662ea8fc5d OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudInitISO=str:generate OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudinitExecuteEngineSetup=bool:True OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudinitInstanceDomainName=str:example.com OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudinitInstanceHostName=str:ovirt-engine.example.com OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudinitVMDNS=bool:False OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudinitVMETCHOSTS=bool:False OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudinitVMStaticCIDR=bool:False OVEHOSTED_VM/cloudinitVMTZ=str:Europe/London OVEHOSTED_VM/consoleUUID=str:24d13b14-cc56-420a-966c-f0d7341cb19b OVEHOSTED_VM/emulatedMachine=str:pc OVEHOSTED_VM/nicUUID=str:77aa84f1-744b-45cc-a298-3905acda6944 OVEHOSTED_VM/ovfArchive=str: OVEHOSTED_VM/rootSshAccess=str:yes OVEHOSTED_VM/rootSshPubkey=str: OVEHOSTED_VM/vmCDRom=none:None OVEHOSTED_VM/vmMACAddr=str:00:18:3d:5b:11:5c OVEHOSTED_VM/vmMemSizeMB=int:16384 OVEHOSTED_VM/vmVCpus=str:4 After prompting for a couple of passwords it proceeds as far as Task: "Clean /etc/hosts on the host". [ovirt-users] Unknown CPU model Broadwell-IBRS-SSBD
Hi, I've just installed hosted-engine. It proceeds to near the end of the Ansible script, then pauses at: "TASK [Check engine VM health]" then eventually errors: "Engine VM is not running, please check vdsm logs. The VDSM logs have error: "libvirtError: internal error: Unknown CPU model Broadwell-IBRS-SSBD" Also, in the oVirt Node webui, the HostedEngine VM is created, but not started. If I press Run, the following error is shown: VM START action failed error: Failed to start domain HostedEngine error: internal error: Unknown CPU model Broadwell-IBRS-SSBD I notice a Trello card was created to add similar Skylake & EPYC CPUs, but not Broadwell: https://trello.com/c/5nGTgQ9P/89-new-ibrs-and-ssbd-cpu-types# Does the Broadwell-IBRS-SSBD CPU need to be added to this supported types list? Many thanks. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/KONKNDI3SXU4R4HEYU5VFG7JKDJOAUIR/
