what did you changed in the configuration ?

Thanks

Do you have any thoughts on the lack of OCSManager/rpcproxy functionality

In the logfile of samba i saw only Storage backend initialization failed

The interesting thing is that in the offical openchange way they never
 mention packages like:

 sogo install openchangeserver sogo-openchange openchangeproxy
 openchange-ocsmanager openchange-rpcproxy

I am little bit confused. They way how you describe is to install all the
 *necessary
Packages and then bind postfix, dovecot, sogo wit ldap-connection to the
samba4(AD) and you also say to connect the Outlook Client over RPC-Proxy
 (Outlook-Anywhere).*

*And **the other thing is that in the openchange docs, they say *Setting
 up mapiprofile (http://www.openchange.org/cookbook/configuring.html),

in your way you never mentioned it. Is the Profile *necessary?*

*Maybe I misunderstood the whole ecosystem of SAMBA+OPENCHANGE+SOGO*

Hi Mario,

I recompiled SOGo and OpenChange using the latest Samba version from Wheezy
backports 4.1.7 or 4.1.8, and it's now much more stable. You can play with
my package from my repository here :

Add the following line to your sources.list :
deb http://open.iabsis.com/debian sogo main

Also add the key :
wget http://open.iabsis.com/open.iabsis.com.asc -O - | apt-key add -

Be careful to remove all samba, openchange and sogo from your server before
installing my version.

Thanks.

You should check your samba4 log for PANIC: internal error or similar

If your samba4 does name resolution, you can should lso check, whether it's

Because we use similar setups, maybe we can work together.

since. It uses OpenLDAP, Cyrus, etc. with SOGo, and now that I've
installed Samba4 (Inverse), I need to create user accounts.

What is the suggested migration from OpenLDAP to Samba4 AD?

I'm interested in being able to authenticate and change passwords at one
point in the network. Right now, I have 2008 R2 accounts, LDAP/SOGo
accounts, Linux accounts and soon Samba4 accounts.

Is this why you suggest using iGestis? (for account administration)

I think acl_xattr error is due to missing samba3 librairies, but shouldn't
have any impact on the samba4 work.

  quick note . . .

 I used samba-tool domain provision --use-rfc2307 *--interactive*

It completed successfully but still gave the acl_xattr VFS error.
However, it did not give the clearTextPassword error. The most
encouraging message was the following . . .

 Adding DNS accounts
 *Creating CN=MicrosoftDNS,CN=System,DC=domain,DC=com*
The zone reload and thaw was successful.
See /var/lib/samba/private/named.conf for an example configuration include
 file for BIND
and /var/lib/samba/private/named.txt for further documentation required
 for secure DNS updates
Setting up sam.ldb rootDSE marking as synchronized
 Fixing provision GUIDs
A Kerberos configuration suitable for Samba 4 has been generated at
 /var/lib/samba/private/krb5.conf
Setting up fake yp server settings
Once the above files are installed, your Samba4 server will be ready to use

 When I saw CN=MicrosoftDNS, I knew I had succeeded!

I used BIND9_FLATFILE and altered /etc/bind/name.conf as suggested, and
when I tested it, my Windows 2008 Server R2 found the domain. Now to add
 user and machine accounts.

Thanks, Oliver for your detailed tutorial. I'll work through the rest to
 see if I've missed anything.

With Zeg, it's a little bit more complicated as there is also an OpenLDAP
database. You have to you webmin (Not sure exactly the tool) to create the
user in OpenLDAP in same time.

I’m running a ZEG 2.1.1 and added a new user with webmin as described on

 I also did the following:

 # add user to samba

 samba-tool domain passwordsettings set --complexity=off

 samba-tool domain passwordsettings set --min-pwd-length=1

 samba-tool user add username

 samba-tool user setexpiry username --noexpiry

 # create user in openchange

 openchange_newuser --create username

But when I open the webpage and type in the user + password I get “wrong

from calendar for the moment, but it's probably possible to make a script
to do that automatically.

I let you have a look on our commercial module on

 Hi,

I'm not sure OpenChange can work on a separate server than Sogo. To
secure your installation, you could installation imap+smtp on a separate
server even I don't recommand as you will probably loose some performances.

Of course, your installation NEEDS a firewall so then just open port 80
and 443 as this is enought to use Outlook and Sogo webmail (and eventually
 port 25).

About samba, you have to use 4.0.1 that is present in inverse repo, it
shouldn't be to different with 4.0.6.

For about the tutorial, you can read the Outlook configuration under First
 account creationhttp://iabsis.com/EN/article/35-8/First-account-creation
 in the tutorial.

 Hi Olivier,

dont you think its better to install samba+openchange separate from
sogo+imap+smtp?because if you gonna give your users external access from
internet to their email accounts via sogo web interface its not good idea
to public local users data(Active Directory) on a server that you want to
public it on internet, yes you can use firewall to filter access but i
decide to install them on two separate server.

On the other hand samba version on inverse repo are old and
configuration from samba4-alpha to 4.0.6 has changed TOO Much.

Even not bad to add a section for setting up thunderbird or outlook !

Re: [SOGo] no login posible anymore after igestis update

2013-04-06 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Right,

Check in the folder /usr/share/igestis/config/igestis/ if the configuration
backup is not present. Also, can you please give me the output of ls
/etc/igestis

Else, simply make a dpkg-reconfigure igestis and re-answer to igestis
questions, the config file will be re-created (don't re-create the database
when asked).

Best regards.

Olivier.

thanks for your quick reply. I did not keep the config file when updating

The cache folder has to be /var/cache/igestis, but the best is to redo
dpkg-reconfigure to be sure.

 Hi Tom,

That's right, keep Samba4, then for the base tree, put example.local (not
 dc=User...).
Then you will get Administrator@example.local automatically at next step,
 so keep it.

Then you should able to login.

I will try ASAP to update my tutorial to explain that, thank for your
 request.

 Best regards.

 Hello all!

I'm installing Samba4+Sogo+Openchange according to the Documentation
 http://iabsis.com/EN/article/35-7/iGestis-installation-optional.

My problem is, that I have no idea how to configure igestis. When prompted
for the settings during installation I've entered :
 Samba 4
 Set a root-PW
Used the default address for the directory uris:
 ldapi://%2Fvar%2Flib%2Fsamba%2Fprivate%2Fldapi
Entered for the base tree: cn=Users,dc=example,dc=local
And get a default value for the admin-account:
 Administrator@cn=Users,dc=example,dc=local
After entering the PW set for provisioning of samba, i always get an
 NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I have no idea, what to change, as the logs do not show anything referring
 to this problem.

Here are the settings I've used to provision:
 samba-tool domain provision --domain=MYDOMAIN --adminpass=my-pass
 --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL --server-role=dc --function-level=2008_R2
 --use-xattr=yes --use-rfc2307 --realm=example.local

 Any ideas or suggestions?
 Regards,
 Tom.

Do you know how to fix it? Did I miss something in the configuration?
How about the MySQL deployment it would make it automatically during

 G’day Oliver,

 ** **

I have followed your tutorial, first up you are a legend – if you come to
Australia, Perth I will buy you a beer.

Easy to follow, I have got my Win 7 Test machine connected to the domain,
Igestis works great, only 1 issue.

 ** **

 Issue:

 ** **

I can log in to the domain controlled windows 7 machine using username set
by igestis – sjswarts – I can find my server in outlook, is underlined and
my set email address is populated correctly. But when Outlook tries to
connect to the default folders it fails with this error:

 ** **

*“Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft
Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize you folders
with your Outlook data file (.ost)”*

 * *

I also cannot log in to http://*server*ip/SOGo with the same username.
The authentication side works (if I put random name and password it says
authentication failure) but it can’t find the username – sjswarts

 ** **

Any help would be very much appreciated,

 ** **

 Thank you

No, it's not missing, it's only in the optional step igestis :

You can add igestis repository and install pam-mkhomedir package, or
 download this file

 /usr/share/pam-configs/ and run again pam-auth-update.

I think there is one thing missing from pam configuration. It is this line
 session required pam_mkhomedir.so

Which creates a home directory if it doesn't exist for the new user in AD
 after authentication.

 What do you think Olivier?

Hi Steven,

You probably forgot to change the Administrator bind, make that :

su - sogo -s /bin/bash
defaults write sogod SOGoUserSources '({CNFieldName = displayName;
IDFieldName = cn; UIDFieldName = sAMAccountName; IMAPHostFieldName =;
baseDN = cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=local;
bindDN = cn=Administrator,cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=local; bindPassword =
pass5678;
canAuthenticate = YES; displayName = Shared Addresses; hostname =
localhost; id = public; isAddressBook = YES; port = 389;})'
exit
/etc/init.d/sogo restart

Don't forgot to change bindPassword and bindDN.

 G’day Oliver,

 ** **

I have followed your tutorial, first up you are a legend – if you come to
Australia, Perth I will buy you a beer.

Easy to follow, I have got my Win 7 Test machine connected to the domain,
Igestis works great, only 1 issue.

 ** **

 Issue:

 ** **

I can log in to the domain controlled windows 7 machine using username
set by igestis – sjswarts – I can find my server in outlook, is underlined
and my set email address is populated correctly. But when Outlook tries to
connect to the default folders it fails with this error:

 ** **

*“Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft
Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize you folders
with your Outlook data file (.ost)”*

 * *

I also cannot log in to http://*server*ip/SOGo with the same username.
The authentication side works (if I put random name and password it says
authentication failure) but it can’t find the username – sjswarts

 ** **

Any help would be very much appreciated,

 ** **

 Thank you

 ** **

 *Regards,*

Are you sure that your Windows box is using the IP address of your server
as main DNS server?

If still not, please try :

   - Stop Samba4 services, check there is no smbd or samba process working
   (killall smbd killall samba).
   - Start Samba4 again.
   - Check /var/log/samba/log.samba (smbd is used by samba3 process).

Also, can you give me your /var/log/samba/log.samba file?

[SOGo] Use custom way to bind on LDAP

2013-03-04 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Hello all,

I made several tries without success, but I would like to know if it's
possible to bind by taking care of the following points :

   - Active Directory users can authenticate with
cn=login,cn=Users,dc=domain, but it's also possible to bind with
login@domain, is it possible to give this information to SOGo? (not only
   for the Administrator).
   - Actually, when a user authenticate, SOGo uses the Administrator
account to search in LDAP then check the login exist, but I don't like to
have clear password in my files, is it possible to bind directly with the
user account then use the same login to get the other user information
useful for SOGo (with the format login@domain explain before).
   - If both are not possible, is it possible to make a custom search to
find user in LDAP with filter? I've not make some tries for the moment as I
prefer to use the way with login@domain.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

2013-03-04 Thread Olivier Bitsch
I suppose there is some good reasons to install or not install from package
your server. That I tried to provide is a way to have a working server
without to install a huge of developer package necessary to compile the
system and have a fast way to install and deploy in case you have several
server to install (samba4 take a little bit time to compile).

I understand that the actual packages provided by Inverse for Samab4 are a
little bit buggy (it seems there are some missing librairies), but it's
already a good start in the wait that distro includes them natively in
their distributions.

Best regards.

Olivier.

2013/3/4 Netwodist netwod...@gmail.com

That's one of the reasons I don't like this solution install from
packages. Tricks like that are no good for long term maintenance on
 production systems.

I have my stuff working from sources, no tricks, plain stuff the way it
should be and I do not break my packaging system by forcing some packages
 on top of others etc.

 Kind regards,

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions Davor,

I will add the acl, user_xattr has this is very useful for fine tuning the
folder rights from Samba4.

I think that this way is not the cleaner way to install Samba4, but package
version doesn't provide the smbd and some missing librairies. That why I
used Samba3 (it seems this is the official way), but as mentioned, it's not
working all time.

 Olivier,

thank you for your hard work putting this tutorial together! And iGestis
looks really promising. Keep up the good work! I will for certain keep an
 eye open for your product.

Regarding Tims error; I ran in to the same errors. And I think it is a
product of installing both Samba3 and Samba4. As Ubuntu has chosen to start
Samba3 with Upstart and so has Inverse, both packages seem to collide and
Samba3 gets precedence. I think the errors originates from Samba3 not
recognising certain Samba4 parameters. During my installation I skipped
installing Samba3-packages and went for Samba4. No errors.

The vfs acl_attr.so error during domain provision is not present after
following your instructions regarding Impossible to access in Samba4
 shares. Thank you!

And the correction of /etc/init.d/sogo works like a charm. Thank you.

In your tutorial, I think you can skip the part about Samba3 and replace
it with: apt-get install samba4 winbind4 krb5-user. And stress the fact to
 reprovision the Samba4 AD.

 My steps:
 1. Install acl and attr: apt-get install acl attr
 2. Edit /etc/fstab: add acl,user_xattr to root mountpoint. Reboot.
 3. Install samba4 according to your known issues.
 4. Stop Samba4.
 5. Delete /etc/samba/smb.conf, rm -R /var/lib/samba/private/*, rm -R
 /var/lib/samba/sysvol/*
 6. Provision a new AD: samba-tool domain provision --domain=EXAMPLE
 --adminpass=Pa$$w0rd --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL --server-role=dc
 --function-level=2008_R2 --use-xattr=yes --use-rfc2307 --realm=EXAMPLE.COM
 7. Stop Samba4 and install Samba4 from Inverse: apt-get install samba4
 winbind4 krb5-user
 8. Start Samba4.

I've been following these instructions (thanks, by the way!). But I'm
not getting past the Samba installation successfully. When I try to join
the domain from a Windows 2008 R2 box, it just says unknown username or
password. I'm pretty sure the culprit is that Samba 3.6.3 is running
instead of 4.0.X. That's what being indicated when I run smbclient -L
 localhost -U%

I have tried removing Samba3 from starting per the instructions, but it
 doesn't seem to work.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I'm using Ubuntu 12.04

 Thanks again!
 Tim

I found this notification on Olivier's tutorial Due to a small bug in
SOGo, it’s strongly recommended to use PostGreSQL and not Mysql.

What bug? Where is it? Is it major? I mean as per SOGo official
documentation, I went with MySQL, it says it is supported. Should I move
away from MySQL then? Can I not use sogo and MySQL in production?

You cannot change user password with passwd command, user samba-tools user
setpassword username instead. The nologin option is a security
recommandation and can be changed in smb.conf.

The update bring the following tweak :

   - New iGestis update available today to version 2.3.3.

For those that already have iGestis installed on their server, simply made

/etc/igestis/ConfigIgestisGlobalVars.php (don't try to change %username% by

 Hi all,

I just finished to write a tutorial in order to
install Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo on Ubuntu/Debian, available at
 http://iabsis.com/FR/article/35/Installation-de-Samba4-et-Openchange-sur-un-serveur-Debian-ou-Ubuntu/

 (only available in french yet).

Basically, you can build your self a ZEG machine, but with Share/Domain
Controller working, withtout OpenLDAP (only one directory on Samba4), and
simplified way to create users. Also I only use packages provided by
 inverse.ca to install the softwares.

I'll very happy if you can test and let comments.

 Best regards.

Re: [SOGo] New Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo tutorial

2013-02-26 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Why I made a tutorial instead use the one provided by OpenChange team :

   - I'm don't very like to use compiled source, I prefer system will
   packaged software.
   - I'm don't want to have two directory (Samba4 and OpenChange in the
   provided tutorial).
   - I want to use full Samba4 features, not only MAPI layer.
   - I want store mails into user home directory, not in a virtual folder.
   - I want to use local ID for users available in Samba4 to make chmod,
   chown, etc..
   - And may be more.

Thanks :D

Re: [SOGo] [JOB] SOGo Expert or new SOGo installation in OpenVZ for 1 domain needed urgent

2013-01-06 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Hi,

I think this could be very usefull to provide the logfile, but probably you
got the same error than me. Are you using the latest git version like me?

Olivier.

2013/1/6 eso...@newmidian.com

First of all I apologize if this message should not be posted in this
 List. But
I have a spanish client who need an urgent installation of SOGo.

My work is select freelance teams or companies for IT clients outsourcing.
 We
have a work of a SOGo installation in an OpenVZ VM for one domain and 90
accounts that has given lot of problems. The team working in it has given
 their
best, but have been stuck with problems of Panic in Samba4 when in Outlook
 they
try to login, synchronize and importing from Exchange 2007 .pst.

My client need the SOGo running in two days, so, he need a real expert in
SOGo that could take a look in the system, talk with the actual installer
 and
find where is the problem... or... directly make a fresh install of SOGo.

As my client had the prevention of installing OpenVZ in the server, if you
 have
a 100% tested and working SOGo OpenVz image, it should be as easy as
 upload the
image to the server and configure with the new domain.

If the administrator of the list consider appropiate, I would like to ask
 all
interested to contact me and I will put in contact with my client to
 further
 details.

Work should start this Monday January 7th. So we'll take a very quick
 decision.

Thanks for your attention, and hope SOGo continue evolving.

[SOGo] Sogo cause Samba fault

2013-01-03 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Hi all,

I have successfully compiled and packaged the lastest git of OpenChange
and Sogo, but I endure an issue when I try to Open Outlook 2010.

My configuration :
* Debian Squeeze with some experimental packages enabled.
* Samba4 installed from experimental.
* OpenChange built from git (up to date the 2 jan 2013).
* Sope, Sogo and OpenChange plugin built from git (up to date the 2 jan
2013).

All the installation have been made with packaged done myself based on
git://git.debian.org/pkg-samba/openchange.git. I don't use OpenLDAP but
Samba4 has main directory. I can login without any issue on SOGo web
interface and all is working has expected.

The issue is coming from Outlook 2010. The first assistant is working
fine and detects my user. But when Outlook try to configure the first
time opening, it give an error that it's impossible to open folder
because the there is network issue. In the same time, Samba process
crashes with the attached log files.

I now there is a problem actually with the trust between my server and
the imap server, so I'm not able to login on IMAP server, but I'm not
sure this issue is related to this settings. I will try to fix this
trust now.

Thanks all,

[SOGo] OpenSogo install process

2012-12-28 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Hi All,

Regarding the documentation avaiable on
http://www.openchange.org/developers/initializing.html and I have some
basic question :

OpenLDAP dependancy
Why using two directory, Samba4 and OpenLDAP? My thoughts is to have a
simplest server as possible and the easiest way to create users.

Starting scripts missing
I'm not sure, but it seems that if I restart the server installed like
provided, the differents services are not starting up automatically.

Ready for real life
Does couple Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo are ready for the real life? I mean
is it possible to use in a corporate environnement?

ZEG appliance
Another question about the ZEG appliance, why samba4 is not working for
file sharing?

Thanks all for your help.

[SOGo] OpenChange plugin compilation failed on Debian Wheezy

2012-12-20 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Hi all,

We are starting to work on a server based on Debian Squeeze. The goal is
creating a master used to deploy the server easily to our customer.

After some tries with the repository dedicated to SOGo, and see that the
server seems a little bit unstable, I decide to compile myself the
different software such as :

  * samba-4.0.0 stable
  * OpenChange 1.0 BORG
  * Sogo 2.0.3a

The compilation of Samba4, OpenChange and Sogo was finished succesfully,
but OpenChange plugin failed during the make process :

This is gnustep-make 2.6.2. Type 'make print-gnustep-make-help' for
help.
