Re: Creating VCL test environment on a single machine
Hello, Yes you can create the test environement in one machine by installing all the components in that machine. TIP: Centos 5.5 and VMware server, is a very bad combination, because VMware server (2.0.2) the latest release isn’t stable in Centos. So if you are planning to use it with Centos please proceed as follow when configuring VMware server: 1. You must login as root 2. Install the latest 2.0.2 VMware Server package and run the configuration. 3. Run the following command to know the type of your system: *arch* 4. Run the following commands, and replace any instance of {ARCH} with the result of Step 3: *mkdir ~/vmwareglibc* *cd ~/vmwareglibc* *wget wget http://vault.centos.org/5.3/os/{ARCH}/CentOS/glibc-2.5-34.{ARCH}.rpm* *rpm2cpio glibc-2.5-34.{ARCH}.rpm | cpio -ivd* *mkdir /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libc.so.6* *mv lib64/libc-2.5.so /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libc.so.6/libc.so.6* 5. Open the VMware hostd process script for writing: *gedit /usr/sbin/vmware-hostd* 6. Add the following to point VMware server to the new package of “* glibc*”: *if [ ! "@@VMWARE_NO_MALLOC_CHECK@@" = 1 ]; then* * export MALLOC_CHECK_=2* *fi* *export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libc.so.6:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH* *eval exec "$DEBUG_CMD" "$binary" "$@"* After this configuration the VMware server should work just fine! Another problem is to get the VMware server console working with the latest releases of firefox so to correct that: · The first solution to this problem is simple; you should remove the new FIREFOX and then download the version 3.5.7 or earlier of this browser and the remote control will be operational. · The second solution consists of using other browser such as Microsoft browser “internet explorer”. 2011/2/19 Tyler Hardesty > Hi, > I am a senior IT student at Dixie State College and for my senior project I > am looking into setting up a VCL for our CIT department. Here is pretty usefull apache VCL incubator link: https://cwiki.apache.org/VCL/vcl-22.html Good luck, GIBET TANI Hicham
Re: New here: Question about backend
The current version of VCL does only support VMware server and ESXi, and that only for now. The next versions will support more and more virtualization platforms such as KVM, XEN and maybe others. Cordially, GIBET TANI Hicham
Re: New here: Question about backend
Hello Adam, The VCL uses VMware Server which is a free release. Good luck. Cordially, GIBET TANI Hicham
Re: Reservation failed
Andy, We are using VMware Server 2.0.2. Cordially, GIBET TANI Hicham
Re: Capture Failed (Image renaming)
Good morning, The error output describes that the image captured failed because of the process couldn't rename the vmdk file since the image with name “* vmwarelinux-base9-v2*” already exist in data store path. So what we need is to place the image in another path or rename it since we are using the VCL in an testing environment. I’m asking if somebody can confirm this. Thank you Henry for the demonstration, it was very interesting to see the manifestation of VCL that I personally found very magnificent, especially that we have been working on it in our university (Abdelmalek Essaadi University, Morocco) but without any luck to get it to work in a testing environment and we are always in wait of your help. Thank Josh you for your answer. I wonder if you can help me with another issue that I had posted to the VCL mailing list on 15 Dec, unfortunately without any response. Re: xcat hardware
Good evening everybody, We are installing xCAT in an ordinary PC (x86_64) and we are experiencing some problems with the “rpower” command that returned an output saying the connection is refused. We are not experts in xCAT but we are hoping to get you assistance. Thank you 2010/12/21 Henry E Schaffer > Josh Thompson writes: > > ... but as far as I know, it can control > > bladecenters and anything that can be controlled via IPMI. > > Since Ehsan Shahrokhi asked about > > > Does xcat support other x86 hardwares of servers such as ordinary pc's > and > > > servers? ... > > It's probably worth noting that many (most, all?) ordinary pc's don't > support IPMI, and not all servers do - and even boxes which support IPMI > may not support it in exactly the way xCAT expects. > -- > --henry schaffer >
Capture Failed (Image renaming)
Good evening, I realized that the problem was related to the VMhost profile, so when I checked I found that the VMhost profile user wasn’t set and I fixed it by providing the correct user. We are using Ubuntu 10.04 as the VM but the image capture didn’t went well because the iamage capture try to copy the SSH daemon from /etc/ssh/sshd and this path don’t exist under Ubuntu. We switch the VM to Centos 5.5, and we tried the image captured again but it failed because the image capture process can’t rename the VM in the VMware repository. We are absolutely in need of your assistance, please advise. Requesting VCL Help From Morocco
Abdelmalek Essaadi University Science and Technology Faculty Computer engineering department Morocco, Tangier Dear VCL team and users, We are Gibet Tani Hicham and Eloutouate Lamiae. We started testing the VCL environment on 05/07/2010, and we wanted as a start to see the VCL initiative before stating to use it. We followed the tutorial in Apache incubator wiki on this link: https://cwiki.apache.org/VCL/configuring-a-standalone-vmware-vcl-environment.html We followed all the steps, and we did create a Windows XP base image and we did start a reservation request and that by querying the database directly. Unfortunately the reservation failed because of the following error: *Du –C /install/vmware_images/*vmwarewinxp-base100-v0* 2>&1, pid: xxx, exit status: 1 output:* *0 total* *Does_image_exist() | image does not exit : vmwarewinxp-base100-v0* PS: · The Windows XP base image exist and it was created using the following tutorial: https://cwiki.apache.org/VCL/create-a-windows-base-image.html · When we executed the command line: *Du –C /install/vmware_images/*vmwarewinxp-base100-v0* 2>&1 *from a command prompt it return the correct size of the image. · When we replace the variables, in the Perl script (vmware.pm), with their correct values the execution doesn’t return this error and it gives another error regarding another variable that don’t get replace. Please advise. Cordially, Gibet Tani Hicham Eloutouate Lamiae
