Robert,

I'll have to see if I can find which book I took the pattern from.
It was supposed to be the original pattern. The materials were
simply different colors of bucktail. Top color, bottom color, and
one black bucktail hair on each side for a mid-line. Painted eyes if
you so desired. Being lazy, I didn't paint mine.

As memory strikes me (and it's losing it's punch these days), they
were tied on a Mustad 9672.

I caught an approximately 10-lb. catfish on my last one about 6 years
ago and haven't gotten around to tying more. I think it's about time
to start again.

Nothing right now.  I'm getting the house ready for the family Seven Fishes
Christmas Eve dinner.  Which means it's getting it's quarterly cleaning and I
have to figure what fish/seafood besides calamari, shrimp, scallops, clams and
mussels I need to cook up.
After Christmas,  I'll be tying some poppers and sliders for the Somerset
show.  My salt water club has a table at the show and we use it to raise funds
that help support the local(South Jersey) Casting for Recovery activities.   I
saw a couple of interesting midge patterns that I want to add to my midge box.
We have limited mayfly hatches on the local streams so I concentrate mostly on
midge and caddis patterns.  Other than that I'd like to come up with a minnow
pattern combining eel skin and EZ-Body tubing.  Then where ever my mind and
imagination take me.

Jerry Caruso
All things considered, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.

not sure. I do not think they make the specific hook he used anymore but
Partridge came out with a hook called something like the Keith Fulsher
Thunder Creek hook It may still be available. The body was usually
tinsel, especially the embossed type. I think Mr. Fulsher had close to 20
different variations. Hope this helps.

Well, I'm in week 6 of my Salmon fly/Traditional Artist program through
the NH Council for the Arts, and got a grant to cover transport,
materials and some of the time. I work in healthcare in the offices of
a large group of practices and my hours got cut in half in August due to
Medicaid low reimbursements, so this is one day of my time each week.

We started with a couple of Spey and Dee flies in October and each
Tuesday we meet one on one for 4 hours instruction with a master
tyer/mentor Larry Antonuk, to take things to the next level using Mike
Radenchich book Twenty Salmon flies. Strip wing last week, and this week
single feather; golden pheasant with and without toppings and the famous
mallard tent.

The program ends in June, if anything it is making me a more precise
tyer, and when I do retire in a couple of years I'll have plenty of time.

Still tying lots of other stuff as well, streamers and then fishing flies.

2011-12-12 Thread Peggy Brenner
I have in front of me some Gaelic Supreme Keith Fulshers Thunder Creek
Streamer hooks. The head is a round eye straight, no bend hook. 5 X
Long and 2X Heavy wire, Forged Round Bend, straight eye, bronze finish.

The original was bucktail, darker color on top, a strand or two of flash
down the side light or white on the bottom with paint on eyes. I use
stick on eyes with a cover of epoxy or uv cure product. Also, I have
added a little tinsel to the body and if making them the same color as a
feather wing streamer, say a Supervisor, I put on the red tailing, no
beard or throat. Also, good quality long craft fur is good, I use it for
teaching this pattern.

Fun to tie and I've caught lots of fish on them everywhere.

Subject: Re: [VFB] What are you all tying right now?

Tying a bunch o Thunder Creek streamers.
Does anyone have the original recipe for them? Mainly trying to find
what the original body material was and what type of hook they were
tied on.
TIA

Robert
