[VFB] World's record fly casting distance... This is unreal!!!!!!!
Folks: This article is dated 2010, so the record may be broken by now, but 243ft cast with a fly rod. That is unbelievable. That's casting it nearly a football field. [VFB] Mustad hooks cheap
Folks: I know we just had a hook Co-op buy, but if anybody needs hook on the cheap, I just now stumbled across this guy. And they are Mustad hooks. @ 200 for $7.50 plus $3.25 SH, that only comes out to 5.4 cents per hook DELIVERED. Now, that's the auction starting price and not the buy it now price, but I checked the completed listings, and you can snipe them easily for the $7.50 starting price. I have no reason to promote the guy and have never heard of him/her till just now, but they do have 100% positive feedback rating. He also has plenty of small sized hooks too, down to size 28 I think I saw. I looked for these as i was JUST now in the process of watching an A. K. Best video called Tying Tiny Flies and A.K. makes tying those size 22 hooks look soo easy, when I can barely SEE the hook, much less tie a fly on it LOL...Chuck http://www.ebay.com/sch/rbewald24v6/m.html?hash=item416478bea3item=280858508963pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0_trksid=p4340.l2562 BTW. Can somebody tell me what the advantage of using a Mustad hook #37160 (see the link at the bottom to see what I'm talking about) over a standard scud hook??? i have a bunch of the #37160 type, but I just use standard scud hooks cause I think the gap on the 37160's is too small, after you get all the fly's dressing on it. All I have used that hook for is a little inch worm caterpillar type pattern, cause the curvature on that hook looks like the inch worm in motion. to me more than the regular scud hook does, but that's just my opinion, and the dressings on that pattern don't get in the way of the hook gap hardly at all. It certainly was cold temperature when the third guide broke as it was a miserable day in January, cold with snow in the air on the ground. There is one other thing that I don't like about the recoil guides and that is the sound that they make during casting. The recoil guides, although mine were the supposed heavier version, are very thin wire and considerably thinner than ordinary snake guides. Thanks, I'm now awaiting the admin people to rubber stamp my registeration. Ashley Hi Ashley: I don't know if they want new members or not, but I did get in and there are some interesting photos, flies, patterns, discussions etc. It was a hassel to get in because there is nothing posted to explain why it appears so outdated and that one has to complete one's profile with the time zone before it actually upadates. There appears to be a fair amount of discussion and I noticed and looked at some pics of soft hackles tied by Hans Weilenmann. I think that it is worth a look. Not everybody is interested in EVERY post or EVERY topic. So if we just start reacting to ppl's posts like this, the group will just shut down, cause ppl will be afraid they'll get lambasted for posting on ANY topic. That's the LAST thing any group needs. ppl need to feel free to post ANY on topic topic, without getting these reactions,. And I'm NOT trying to be ugly here, just stating the fact as to what will happen if we react to ppl's post in this manner. Ppl's will either post on NOTHING, or they'll just leave the group, one or the other.
