What Jimi said. If you do one half hitch, then reverse the second half hitch it
becomes a Timber hitch, used in attaching a line to a log when pulling it out
of the woods. I always reverse the second half hitch when tying a fly. It makes
a bullet proof knot or end of my thread tie off. I use it a lot also in
different places in tying a fly if I want the strength.

Love this thread; start with a little humor, and continue with a little
education that can improve my tying. I will whip in with the clove hitch

slip, but that feature can be useful if you need a knot to slip which is

Re: [VFB] Re: [RODMAKERS] Albolene

2013-06-25 Thread Michael Bliss
Wayne,

Albolene is used by women for a cream I think to remove make-up. I found
it at Rite-aid in the women's area by Noxema I think. Like the fellow
above I got the jar and them moved some into a film canister. It is easy
to use and no worries on what to do with excess - rub it on your hands.
You do not need to add anything. I would use it on my line as well and if
you put it on your line and wipe the line pulling it through a clean cloth,
it becomes a line cleaner. Nice stuff and cheap.

To anyone interested in Albolene,
I bought a jar of it about 12 years ago and I don't add any oil. I
put it in an old film can and just put a bit on my finger and thumb and
lightly rub the fly. It works just great. I keep a small towel on my vest
so I can wipe my hand if necessary. The jar is still about 7/8s full so
I'm sure I'll never have to buy more. Mine seems to be unscented so I
