Re: [videoblogging] MPEG4?
Hi edmund, I use quicktime pro 7, but there are also free compressors/converters at download.com, maybe you could do a little hunting about before you pay $30 or £20 for the privilage of using quicktime pro. Re: [videoblogging] Google Video Revisited
Deidre, there's all sorts of ways one might link be viewing your videos outside of a software based aggregator even if they're not visual links in the page. To start with Mefeedia will make those visible... but far more importantly... if you are using feedburner... all the mRSS information would be handed off to Yahoo video search... I get crazy amounts of traffic from yahoo video search. It makes no difference wether the video is simply a hidden enclusure or a visible link to such intermediaries.-MikeOn Dec 24, 2005, at 11:41 AM, Deirdre Straughan wrote: Representative or not, the actual statistics may tell us something. I have one video (so far) that is available in the three formats under discussion:M4V - viewed in iTunes, but also by some feed readers/aggregators. And FeedBurner doesn't nearly cover this number, because many people are subscribed directly to my original feed on my site (trying to shift everything to FeedBurner, that will take time). Which video is picked up by which aggregator and why is a mystery to me. FireANT shows both, some show one or the other randomly for no reason that I can figure out.FLV - viewable (as far as I understand) only on the web page http://beginningwithi.com/vlog/051204.html where the player is also available. I ran an Analog report from Dec 9th (when these files were posted) to today. Here are the rsesults: 225 8.49% 24/Dec/05 00:27 /video/carols.m4v127 24/Dec/05 00:03 http://www.beginningwithi.com/video/carols.m4v (I have two domain names right now) -352 total m4vs155 7.46% 23/Dec/05 19:45 /video/carols.flv28 1.35% 23/Dec/05 05:25 /video/carols.swfSo, Josh is right: FLV is viewed on the page more than SWFs are downloaded/viewed in aggregators. But M4V whips the pants off both. I would really LOVE for Apple to be giving us all some stats from iTunes... It is worth noting that, over this same period, 3679 SWFs in total were viewed, one way or another, vs 1209 views of other types of video on my site (M4V, MOV, MP4, and WMV). I will have to look more closely at the details to see how significant this is, however, as about half of my videos only exist in SWF (I started doing M4Vs in October, and use WMVs only for special purposes which require high quality). [videoblogging] Maddening problems with new blog on blogger and blip.tv
I'm going bonkers trying to link some video on blogger that I uploaded to blip.tv. On blogspot.com I have a link through a JPEG to the .mov file on blip.tv. When the JPEG is clicked, a new tab opens with the blog on blip.tv. It plays fine on blip.tv, but I would like to play the video through my blog on blogspot. If anyone would like to give it a try, it is hestakaup.blogspot.com. I have found that Firefox does not display the JPEG files on blogspot. The tutorials on freevlog were helpful, but the details are still somewhat confusing. Right now I am in test mode and would like very much to continue. [videoblogging] France Lawmakers Endorse File-Sharing
Via HorsePigCow.com (http://tinyurl.com/cqg7w), from http://tinyurl.com/7hq38: = By LAURENCE FROST AP Business Writer PARIS (AP) -- A French government crackdown on digital piracy backfired Thursday as lawmakers rebelled by endorsing amendments to legalize the online sharing of music and movies instead of punishing it. The vote by members of France's lower house dealt a setback to Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, who introduced the draft legislation. Showbiz and cultural celebrities protested the latest move, an indication that the amendments' supporters may eventually have to back down. Under the original proposals, those caught pirating copy-protected material would have faced $360,000 in fines and up to three years in jail. An 11th-hour government offer to give illegal downloaders two warnings prior to prosecution was not enough to stem the rebellion. Instead, the amendments voted would legalize file-sharing by anyone paying a monthly royalties duty estimated at $8.50. Music labels and movie distributors have suggested the amendments would break international laws on intellectual property, and French actors and musicians lined up to condemn the surprise vote. To legalize the downloading of our music, almost free of charge, is to kill our work, venerable rocker Johnny Hallyday said in a statement. The actors' and musicians' branch of France's largest trade union, the CFDT, said the plan would mean the death of our country's music and audiovisual industries. The proposed royalties duty amounts to a Sovietization of the arts, said Bernard Miyet, president of the French music composers' and publishers' organization SACEM. You're talking about an administered price, set by a commission without regard to the music and film economy, Miyet said. But UFC-Que Choisir, France's largest consumer group, said the plan would create a new area of freedom allowing Internet users access to cultural diversity and fair payment for creators. Days before the parliamentary debate, consumer activists delivered a 110,000-signature petition to the culture ministry criticizing the draft bill. The right of consumers to make copies of their music and videos for private use is enshrined in European law, and media companies have faced legal action in France for selling copy-protected CDs and DVDs. The ruling conservatives' parliamentary leader, Bernard Accoyer, rejected government demands for a fresh vote Thursday, saying lawmakers will first take time to listen to all sides, in particular the artists and creators. The final lower-house vote is not expected until after Jan. 17, when deputies return from their winter break. The bill requires only one further vote in the Senate to become law, under the emergency procedure invoked by the government to comply with a 2001 European Union directive on digital piracy. = Yahoo!
