If I make it to vloggercamp. And I'm really gonna try. If I make it I'll sit around and bullshit about kicking some mothervloggin ass with whoever will listen. Here's an idea that popped into my head and I don't know what to do with it. So I'm going to pretend I'm looking into a camp fire with a beer in my hand. Because that's really where ideas like this should go. Into a fire. Okay, you know the youtube system, how suggested videos pop up in the player after you watch one? And also there's the related video list over on the sidebar. In the early days it was based on tags. And you could get massive amounts of views by changing your tags to the tags of a popular video. But they've changed the algorithm. I think they're now using some sort of social scoring system sort of like google page rank. And the evidence I'm going on here is the strange experiences I've had with my videos. Someone leaves an intriguing comment and I want to know more about this person. I go to the commenter's youtube profile, I watch one of the commenter's videos and one of my own videos pops up in the player! I've also noticed odd behaviour with the videos I've favorited- they have a tendency to show up on the related sidebar list together. Okay, so do you realize what we as a vlogging community could do? We could create an insular social circle so that the majority of the videos that pop up are from our circle. Nay, our cult! We could all start inserting a single frame of satanic imagery. Think how this will look to the average youtuber. He or she keeps clicking on the videos that youtube suggests and everything youtube serves up has the same dark image inexplicably inserted into it. [videoblogging] A market for Youtube Meets Journalism? (Beijing Olympics Uncensored)
Hi Folks, I'd love some advise about how to transition from public radio (what I've been doing in Asia for over a decade) to video. Can anyone suggest possible markets for this Youtube Meets Journalism style news video series? http://current.com/items/89060438_beijing_olympics_uncensored_promo Any technical advice (or nontechnical advice like get rid of the dark glasses!)? I feel like I'm committing a sin using such poor quality sound, but is it adequate for this medium? Hope to do better after my trip to NY next week during which I plan to upgrade from my xacti c40. The discussion on Xactis and alternatives has been helpful Thanks! Does anyone else out there use PowerDirector software? Jocelyn [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Vloggercamp Who is going?
Why do you need 35 people to sign up to cover expenses? If only 10 or 15 come, host it differently. There's KOA - http://www.koa.com/where/mo/13107/ and 3 of 'em near St. Louis. Let folks make their own reservations / share a kabin - yeah - in the KOA lexicon 'cabins' are 'kabins'. They even got free wireless in most of 'em. Cook / shop for yourselves. No need to 'plan' that. Just a thought. Jan -- Jan McLaughlin Production Sound Mixer air = 862-571-5334 aim = janofsound skype = janmclaughlin
[videoblogging] Re: Vloggercamp Who is going?
Well yes, there are KOA's but we were thinking a better alternative would be hanging with Richard and Maureen in nearby Rolla--that would be for folks who are booked but can't cancel their travel. And I'm sure Heath and David Meade would be down for that too. I think, I'm gonna cancel it. I wouldn't blame anyone for not signing up at this point. Sorry for your trouble. I'm sending the money back to those who already paid. Re: [videoblogging] Re: Vloggercamp Who is going?
I am sorry to hear this is not happening as it does sound like a blast. For me, I have so much away travel and the prices have doubled so we are feeling the pain. It is a good news/bad news day with so many things going on, on so many levels. I don't know if people want to try to un-organize a gathering at the New Media Expo in Vegas August 14-16. The expo there is free, and Vegas is pretty cheap in the {hot} summer. There's a separate thread here of people who are attending. http://www.newmediaexpo.com/incoming.php?linkid=1896 Just an idea... and at least Vegas is not on one of the coasts, which I think was part of the inspiration for this gathering Another idea, is that we are planning a Podcamp here in Hawaii in October 25-26; sloooww getting off the ground but I believe it will definitely happen. Everyone is very welcome to come here and we will make sure there are plenty of couches and amazing video and talk story opportunities. I agree; Q-Bert was auto-playing so I couldn't watch the video without Q-Bert.. um... Q-Berting all over the place. So I went to your youtube page, and the couple I saw werent that bad except for the fact that you tape tv shows as segments in your vlog! Bad news, no donut. If I want tv, I'll go watch tv. Nope. It was more like we were down 30. If we had 30 or even 20 registered I would have kept registration open longer. But with only 5, it was hard to imagine that another week would have made a difference. I was trying to do this with no sponsorship so 35 was the minimum to pay for the facility and hire the cook in advance. I was trying to pull this thing off just about right at cost. Which I thought would a cool thing to do. I'm disappointed but what are you gonna do? You try things, some work out, some don't. Not a big deal. We're probably gonna do something fun in STL that weekend anyway, so if you still want to come you're welcome to. It's just not gonna be what we thought it was. [videoblogging] I'm Paul from MySpaceTV
Hi! I have met a fair few of you over the last two years or so (most at Pixelodeon and other event) but I only recently got to chat with Irina for a good length of timeâ¦who introduced me to Jayâ¦who said I should join⦠so here I am! My name is Paul Armstrong and I work for MySpace, specifically MySpaceTV. I'm in the media department but I don't really fit into the traditional PR mold since I get to work on new initiatives as well as news. There are big changes happening at MySpace on all levels, as you've hopefully seen (if I'm doing my job right!) with more to come. To say we've grown would be an understatement but as we've grown we've learned a lot and asked a lot and you are starting to see some of these changes come into effect. So why am I here? About two years ago I got hooked on real people, talking about real thing in real ways and ever since I have been fascinated by the power of online video. When I worked for Activision and Sony I had a chance to start working with people like Steve and Zadi as well as Amanda/Mario and it's been a passion of mine ever since. When I joined MySpace about a year ago, MySpaceTV was just starting and it was about building a solid foundation, now we have that we/I feel now is the right time to expand further and try new things now we have the partnerships set up (and the headcount to actually do stuff)! I won't say we are changing direction (we are a community first and a video site second) but the foundations are set and it's time to build a bridge to get to you all! Recently I started interacting with Nick Schmidt (aka Mr. No Warning on scar photos at 9am in the morning) who moderates the MySpace vlog community (http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=groups.groupProfilegroupID=101292866MyToken=a6e58c92-c988-42fa-be88-81b6a2f1f7a7) - please join if you are on MySpace. I interviewed Chris Brogan a week ago and posted it today who once gave some good/free advice don't poorly dive in and start blabbing instead of listening first, don't be 'that guy'. To this end, I'm looking to find out how we can help you do whatever it is you want to do better. How can MySpace/TV help you? Is it offline events? A dedicated advertiser community that want real ads by real people made? More info on the content we are looking for? Tips to navigate the network better? A vlogger profile type? I am ALL ears and want to make sure you feel you have/still have/will always have a place on MySpace and MySpaceTV. I'm based in LA and ALWAYS willing to do drinks or have people into HQ (if you find grey cubes just as awesome as we do!) so let me know if you are around and want to meet up! So I guess that's me in a nutshell. Friend me up http://www.myspace.com/britpabz â IM me on AIM: pabzrocks or GMAIL: paulstephenarmstrong) and add me to twitter (munkyfonkey) if you are that way inclined! I look forward to hearing from you all and working with you to create a place on MySpace that helps you do what you want to do better, faster, smarter etc. Paul (or Pabz kinda prefer Pabz). PS: If anyone is politically minded or just fancies a go yesterday we launched a citizen journalism partnership with NBC/MSNBC (through MySpace Impact) â I have put it on my blog here (http://tinyurl.com/6byovj) - check it please take a second to check it out as I think it's a great partnership.
Re: [videoblogging] Re: Vloggercamp Who is going?
Bill, I actually thought that given a bit of cajoling and encouragement, the 30+ people who were on the Wiki Front Page (many of whom probably thought that they *had* signed up, if not actually committed) would have parted with the cash. Maybe if we'd had a renewed call of Gotta register by Friday or it's all off people (myself included) would have pulled their fingers out and signed up. I thought we were just building it up again and was getting excited about that... I didn't decide to go to Pixelodeon until a week before - I think it's the same for a lot of people: we wait and see how the wind is blowing until we get an ultimatum and somebody saying, Come on, you lame-ass, ante up! BUT I understand also that you'd already set July 1st as the cut-off date and are the one who's putting in all the work and taking the risk, so I see where you're coming from and don't blame you. If you wanted to give that a go, I'd gladly help you try to rally the people who'd signed up already and try to get them to pay up by the end of the week. Tell me it wasn't because you only had 34 and were down one man. I dragged my ass to this cafe for lack of home internet (or electricity, for that matter) JUST so I could register. No, seriously, I just got here with my laptop. I am much vexed. --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Bill Streeter bill@ wrote: Well yes, there are KOA's but we were thinking a better alternative would be hanging with Richard and Maureen in nearby Rolla--that would be for folks who are booked but can't cancel their travel. And I'm sure Heath and David Meade would be down for that too. I think, I'm gonna cancel it. I wouldn't blame anyone for not signing up at this point. Sorry for your trouble. I'm sending the money back to those who already paid. Bill Streeter --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Jan McLaughlin jannie.jan@ wrote: Why do you need 35 people to sign up to cover expenses? If only 10 or 15 come, host it differently. There's KOA - http://www.koa.com/where/mo/13107/ and 3 of 'em near St. Louis. Let folks make their own reservations / share a kabin - yeah - in the KOA lexicon 'cabins' are 'kabins'. They even got free wireless in most of 'em. Cook / shop for yourselves. No need to 'plan' that. Just a thought. Jan -- Jan McLaughlin Production Sound Mixer air = 862-571-5334 aim = janofsound skype = janmclaughlin [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
