[videoblogging] Guess Who's Back, back again, knighties back, tell a friend.
It's almost been two years now since the last time I was in here, a lot has changed and a lot of your prophesies have come to fruition. Hi Guys and Gals, Paul Knight from PJKproductions, back and ready to start all over, I am in need of tips and tricks to get some of you lovely people watching the videos I create and how to market them to others. In concentrating on other things I have forgotten most of the tricks we used to use, so I'll be posting and commenting quite regularly now, and you will find that as for my behavior it has toned down because I have discovered facebook a great tool for venting my frustrations. I still have the same old Blogspot, http://pjkproductions.blogspot.com please don't be afraid to view it and some of my videos to find out what I am all about, mainly it's just home made stuff, edited using FCE, (imovie really sucks now,) trying out different techniques and adding special effects from third party sources that usually people wouldn't use for vlogging. That's my introduction, hopefully those who remember me, accept me with open arms and to all the new people, new as in joined within the last 2 years, I anticipate watching your vids with a new found appetite. [videoblogging] Weekly virtual meetups
Hi everyone! It's been quite a while since I've posted, but I haven't forgotten about you all! As with things in life, things go up and down in priorities and have slowed down a bit from videoblogging since starting 4+ years ago now... or is it 5 now? Anyway, I miss the old days and the flood of information that I got from this group. This reminded me of when we all used to do those weekly or even twice weekly video conferences using a service that escapes my memory at the time. I was just curious as I would like to be more involved again. Let me know either way and hope you all have been well... will be on here more often now! Take care, Kev! http://www.limeblog.tv --
Re: [videoblogging] Guess Who's Back, back again, knighties back, tell a friend.
Hi Paul! Must be something in the air - quite a few people who haven't vlogged for a while (myself included) have been coming back to it in the last couple of weeks. There was a discussion about it on Michael Verdi's vlog, in which I had more than my fair share to say, so I won't repeat myself here. http://michaelverdi.com/2009/08/13/not-a-video/ Going to have to go back to my RSS reader instead of relying on Twitter. And have just started enjoying 12seconds.tv for mobile vlogging. Great for catching little moments and sending them there and then. Re: [videoblogging] Weekly virtual meetups
Hey Kev! I was just catching up with your videos over the weekend :) The Flashmeetings haven't happened for quite a while. I think constant ambient intimacy on Twitter made them less crucial, just like it did to this group. But I used Flashmeeting again for something else a couple of weeks ago, and was reminded what a great thing it is. I reckon, given the current mood, we could probably get a crowd together. Maybe not once a week, but would be fun to try one and see... Who knows how to schedule these things? I think Markus used to do it. Going to have to go back to my RSS reader instead of relying on Twitter. Google Reader is evolving. It's still way more complicated than a twitter UI but it's moving in a good direction where it may end up being more like Facebook. Go figure! Either way, RSS is NOT dead. [videoblogging] Pinnacle Studio V12?
Fry's has Pinnacle Studio V12 for free, after rebates. Is this program any good? (for PC) I currently have Sony Vegas (which I have barely used). The reviews of V9 (CNET PCmag) show a lot of dissatisfaction of freezeups: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1650507,00.asp I've been using iMovie HD 6 (2006 version) on my Mac laptop dekstop with no problems. [videoblogging] Re: Youtube and HTML5
Hello, I am returning due to these technologies sparking my interest, along with the looming release of Snow Leopard which Im sure will give me something to talk about. That youtube demo is interesting, especially when I compare CPU use. The html 5 example uses way less CPU than the flash version of youtube. With a busy site like youtube, this has the capacity to reduce waste of electricity in quite a big way. Im not quite sure about your compatibility example, because the work was already done on that issue when youtube started using h264. They can serve the h264 via flash on the desktop, but on the iphone they can use the video tag to point to the same h264 file without using flash. When I tried that youtube test on Safari on Mac it was using a h264 video with the html5 video tag, not sure if it uses a different format when it detects firefox. These codec choices for html5 are going to remain messy and get in the way of things. If the 2010 h264 licensing details turn out to suck then I suppose that will encourage people to look at alternatives more. It will certainly be interesting to see what Google do with On2. I would not get my hopes up too much about theora though, even if Google plan to use it on youtube or in Chrome browser, its still not going to work on the iphone and things. So at the very least h264 versions of the videos still need to be made for iphone other hardware devices, and I doubt Google want to have to host and encode lots of different versions of all their videos. Now that h264 is pretty much everywhere, it will be a lot easier for all concerned, from viewers to producers, if the h264 new licence terms dont suck much, and we just stick with this format. Despite my complete lack of enthusiasm for Theora, I still get very excited about html5 video tag, and some other things that are proposed for html5. Recently nightly builds of Webkit on Leopard, and Safari in Snow Leopard, feature hardware-accelerated transformations of web page elements whih are really lovely and smooth. Combine these with video and there are some lovely possibilities. All sorts of fancy stuff that could be done in Flash already, but this way it looks nicer, is smoother, doesnt eat the CPU and the tools to make the stuff dont cost loads money. I am looking forward to Flash losing ground, all the things it can do should really be part of web standards and handled by the browser, for numerous reasons I have already hinted at. Here is the demo that impressed me, but you will only see the magic if on a recent webkit nightly on Leopard or Safari in Snow Leopard: http://www.satine.org/archives/2009/07/11/snow-stack-is-here/ Cheers Steve Elbows --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Jay dedman jay.ded...@... wrote: All the discussions around HTML5 have been abstract around here. I've used Pinnacle Studio version 9 or 10 (I don't remember which). I had a lot of problems with it including freeze ups. If you have Vegas, stick with that. Although if it's free it wouldn't cost you anything to find out if version 12 has the same problems. [videoblogging] Editing HD Video w Vegas on a Laptop
Hi-- I'm a radio broadcaster who is a newbie to video, and not much of a techie. I'm trying to run Sony Vegas 8.0 on my Lenovo x61 thinkpad (Intel core 2 duo cpu T8100 , 2.10 Ghz, 795 Mhz, 2.97 GB RAM) but the video is jerky, and the audio and video are not in sync. I'm shooting HD AVCHD on the Canon Vixia HF100. I've tried Vegas with low-quality SD (from an old Sanyo xacti) and it's also jerky and out of sync. Should my x61 thinkpad be able to handle editing this on Vegas? If so, any suggestions where to begin trouble shooting? If not, what light-weight laptop would do the job? Ideally, I'd like to be able to file from the field. (I'm based in Beijing and sometimes find myself on very cramped buses in the hinterlands, and don't want to be loaded down with heavy equipment.) I'd like to stick with Vegas, but may switch to Mac /FPC if I can't find a workable lightweight solution. All advice welcome! Jocelyn [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
