It's actually pretty easy using Broadcast Machine, a free tool from the Miro folks, which is based on Blog Torrent. I dont, seems weird). Awesome and easy to set up, where creators create to dialog with each other without the need/care of Views and Comments. I presume that's managed through the older YouTube-only program -- and that if you're a YouTube partner, the ads travel with the video via embeds, regardless if it's on your site or not. Re: [videoblogging] Domain question
I'm in a class on documentary research and writing, and I was trying to whittle down my final choice for a focus from a couple of ideas, and as anyone on the Internet knows, you can't start a project until you've purchased an appropriate domain name. A quick search told me my first choice .com was taken, but .org and .tv weren't. I went with .org because it implies non-profit, while .tv implies ongoing 'channel' or 'collection' of video. Since a feature doc is my goal, .org made more sense even though it sort of forces the profit versus non-profit question. If I was doing a video blog or some such, I would have gone with .tv. But yeah, like Schlomo, I seem to collect domains for good ideas that I don't follow through on. But if Carson Daly can squat domains, so can we! Re: [videoblogging] What is a journalist--Defined
I guess my reaction is born from two things: one, there's no such requirement in California's shield law, and two, in the Apple v. Does case, the judge opted to protect the bloggers under that shield law (instead of trade secrets laws) since they'd committed an act of journalism, regardless of their background as journalists or reasons for doing so. I just don't see how a free and independent press doesn't include people who get a bug up their rear and publishing something, with no regard for their livelihood or personal financial gain. What about journalism students, who often take chances on writing provocative stuff -because- they have no need to earn a paycheck? To me, this was designed to apply only to the corporate press who have a vested interest in being the only organizations allowed to call employees and freelancers journalists. As David points out, it only matters how this applies in the courts. A law doesn't mean much without legal precedent to give it nuance. There will be more content creators -- as the post reads, some slots are booked but the names aren't final final. Currently we're hosted by an outside company whose interface lives within our site, but it's clunky - kinda ugly, confusing navigation, player doesn't look cool, encode and upload specs are narrow and video quality is unsatisfying. Our content includes graphics that require fullscreen viewing so we're aiming for the highest resolution possible at the smallest file size. We're shooting DV in a professionally lit studio, cutting on Avid and Sorenson squeezing. Here's what we need: 1. A host that can handle a large archive and hopefully can help us migrate smoothly. 2. Ease of posting (so non-tech employees can do it) 3. Embeddable player 4. Customizable and searchable interface (not just a player on a page) that can integrate seamlessly into our website with no external branding Obviously, we can spend some money on this endeavor. We're in a corporate environment so whoever we work with has to be an above-board solution provider with a track record and some substance - my bosses are tech savvy but leery of anything that's in beta or seems to be flash in the pan. If you're still reading and have any thoughts on this, email me at throbbingcow AT yahoo dot com. [videoblogging] Editing Software for Windoze
Hey all. Just shot some hella fun footage of Bay to Breakers (runners! nudity! costumes! dancing! alcoholism!) and I'm dreading the thought of having to edit it all with Quicktime Pro or, even worse, Windows Movie Maker. Anybody have suggestions for a simple, lightweight video editing application (or, even better, online thingie)? I've only got a 1GHZ laptop, so I'm not sure I could run the latest Premiere or Vegas.
Re: [videoblogging] Re: Editing Software for Windoze
I'm saving up for one of those new MacBooks, and yes, then I will beg, borrow or steal a copy of Final Cut and be much, much happier. Gena, those suggestions are super-helpful. Okay, Premiere Elements trial sucks. I spent two hours editing a short piece, only to find out that when you export, it puts an Adobe bug in the output file. Bo! Trying Ulead Video Studio. On my trip to LA in January I stayed at the Mayfair -- tres shabby, but cheap, there's free wifi, a good taco truck across the street and it's only a five minute walk to the Metro train. I dream of this stuff being pushed to the extreme and for it to be possible for a blog like experience to be completely available from within a flash player. Complexities quickly arise when the people providing the player are hosting your videos, but are not responsible for the rest of your blog, it leads to an understandable focus on the video hosting page rather than your blog page. This may not be considered a probem because the expectation may be that you embed their player in your site, and your site provides all the other bloggy stuff you want. But this doesnt cover scenarios where our show player may be embedded on another site or used as a widget. I see the guide button is optional, and its easy to rebrand the player so that its got your own site in the bottom right hand corner, which is a clickable link pointing to the URL of your choice. Thanks for mentioning that. I had those pointing to the blip shows, basically by default, but I've switched them now so that they point to the blogs for the shows instead of the blip pages. This helps out the permalink situation A LITTLE BIT, but it still takes the viewer to the most recent post in the blog. The only thing that seems to update with the individual video is if you click guide and then read more about this on blip.tv, which takes you to the individual video's page on blip. -- Bill C. BillCammack.com Id love to see the creative commons stuff thats been requested in the past, be rolled out into this show player in the future, whether it be through a little cc icon on the bottom bar of the player, or the inclusion of this info in the popup 'about this episode' tab. I agree about the font size, hmm this stuff starts to get a bit tricky, a big decision to break away from the player being 320x240. I see that Veoh's player is rather large now, but this makes it look quite good and leaves more room for additional info overlays to be displayed in a larger font. Some other services have really wide players with separate episode bars to one side of the video. Personally Im fascinated by the idea of a flash player for wordpress that can display the entire blog, text video etc, in the flash player. I was looking at WPF/E but I think I'll ignore that technology for now, and go buymyself a copy of flash and join the fun. Re: [videoblogging] Re: NewTeeVee Request for reactions to State of Vlogosphere
I spoke to Frank Sinton, and more details will be released in my article. But for everyone's information, the numbers reflect where feeds listed with Mefeedia originate, not where the actual content is hosted (which was the main question everyone seemed to have about the study). On 30 Mar 2007 10:39:12 -0700, Steve Watkins [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Its interesting but id like to see more detail of the methodology. For example does 'number of videoblogs' mean number of feeds, does it take account of rss feeds that are built on the fly based on search terms, etc. And is the breakdown of sites used purely based on where the video files themselves are hosted, or is it anything to do with where the rss feed is generated? Is it purely based on feeds taht have been added to mefeddia, and so trends that show an increase in vlogs might just mean an increase of vlogs being picked up by mefeedia? If we wanted accurate numbers on youtube use, how would you go about finding them all as opposed to youtube users who usually upload copyrighted stuff from tv etc? And finally, are the vlogs on mefeddia mostly English-language, and thus these stats are likely to miss the non-English vlogs in the world? Its still useful to see their numbers, just cant think of a way to measure such things with a high degree of accuracy. I assume mefeedia do what they can with the data that is accessible to them, thats all they can be expected to do so Im not criticising them for bothering. Some details on how much the vlogs are being watched through mefeedia might be a useful measure of the state of the vlogosphere too? Hello, I'm Jackson West. You may remember me from such blogs as SFist: The Gavin Newsom Follies and Fleshbot: Booze, Hookers and Blow. I'm just writing to thank folks for reading NewTeeVee, warn you that I'm watching, beg you to digg our posts every once in a while, eagerly invite you to troll our comments and otherwise formally introduce myself. I'm in a tough place, because there are so many stories I want to tell, but the investors would prefer that I tell the ones that will be wildly popular. Which is apparently anything having to do with Joost, Amanda Congdon (no offense, Amanda) and where to find Fox's fear-porn revue, 24, for free on teh innerwebs. So if you want me to keep pumping your niche web shows, linking to your sponsorship efforts, calling film commissioners and lawyers for fun and showing up at small events put on by startups and creators, please help me help you by leaving comments and telling your friends! My only alternative is to take Jessica Lee Rose and Lisa Donovan hostage, force them to make out and distribute the footage via Babelgum. Do you really want to see that happen?
