[videoblogging] Re: We're in. Categories. Yey.

2005-10-12 Thread Susan
They "haven't pushed this stuff yet" because they want to get a good
year of selling TV shows and music videos before people discover all
kinds of free vlogs are out there.

It isn't going to work. Word spreads, like whipped cream cheese.
With chives.

[videoblogging] Re: iPod: new revenue model

Josh, you so rock. Eloquent, as always. ;)

I, for one, am not in the "market" to make money. If was wanting
money, I'd be turning away traffic, and I'm more interested in
traffic than money.

Make sense?

[videoblogging] Re: How would you explain RSS-Video feeds to your grandma???

2005-10-11 Thread Susan
This is good... but I think I would specify that the video isn't on
your computer automatically... I put something along the lines
of "you can then click on a link to watch the video..."
Of course, unless you have an app set up to automatically download
them. But then you go way over three sentences with Grandma. :D

[videoblogging] Re: How would you explain RSS-Video feeds to your grandma???

2005-10-11 Thread Susan
Three sentences:
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication"--syndicated like your
favorite TV shows are, which means they can be watched all over the
world. Whenever you want to watch your favorite TV program, you log
into your computer, and RSS "feeds" it to you--gives you a link so
you can watch it, any time you want. When that TV station makes a
new TV show--like a new episode in a sitcom--it "feeds" it to you, by
giving you a new link, that you can click on whenever you want to
watch that new episode.

Long sentences, but it's three. :)

Gena--take it from Jonny Goldstein, a twinkie bath is the only way to
go...
http://www.jonnygoldstein.com/2005/05/05/freelance_blues_episode_8_twi
nkies.php

Carl--I missed you! I was just up in Boston over Friday/Saturday.
I, too, am in an area where there's not many vloggers--Dallas--just
look at the map. http://www.vlogmap.org

Deirdre--"when and as I damn well please"... I completely agree. If
you're a once a week person, a once a month person, or a once a day
freak like me, so be it.

...and that's where I am right now. I'm at the high. I'm at the
seriously-what-the-heck-are-you-doing high. I've found that niche
that Carl was talking about, but the difference is, I was doing video
editing way before my vlog started. I would edit my videos and put
them on DVDs to send to the grandparents (most of my videos are kid
encounters, etc...) Now I have a way to share them with the general
public.

Right now, my camera is in the shop. :( I feel like I've lost my
third child--like I'm walking around on earth naked. It got dropped
during a balloon stomp contest (don't laugh) and the hinge that
swings the screen out came loose (it's a Sony M1)... they said it
could be up to two weeks until I get it back.

Gulp.

[videoblogging] Re: help...please..thank you..

2005-10-05 Thread Susan
Here here to everything Mister Steve had to said.

With OurMedia, if you are uploading large files (I would say over
5MB), they have a little software tool you can install on your
computer to upload files with. I use it, and it's nifty.

Though I am an OurMedia advocate, I will admit I have trouble from
time to time; but when I do, I just walk away from the computer for
fifteen minutes, try to upload the movie again, and it works fine.

Also, something else I found out accidentally, if your description
of your movie is less than ten words (or something like that), your
upload will fail. Not sure if it gives a proper error message or
not.

eww!

I just tried youTube for the first time, messing around... and it
apparently re-formatted the video... and it lost more than HALF of
the quality. yuck...

[videoblogging] Re: Comment Response

2005-10-03 Thread Susan
Actually, when someone comments in my vlog, I get an email saying the
person commented. I then go to my vlog and post a reply to their
question, etc. there. Then I forward the email to them, and I say "I
replied!" Then the person has an email that says I replied, and the
perma-link to the original page is already in the email, since I am
forwarding it to them.

mister jonny. great idea. I've been trying to keep my mouth shut,

[videoblogging] "About Me" questions

2005-09-16 Thread Susan
Hi there!

I am thinking about making an "about me" post today, in five second
increments, of course. :) In it, I'll tell some basic, some
interesting, and some perhaps not-so-interesting things about me.
It'll be the longest time I think I've ever spent in front of a camera,
not counting teaching classes in the military...

What I'd like is, for another project, for each person who reads this
to come up with five questions that could be answered in an "about me"
vlog entry. Take those five questions and post them here in this
thread in the yahoo group, so that perhaps anyone who would like to can
create a similar post about themselves.

Have fun! Oh, and yes I'll post my 5 questions too...

Hi there, folks!

If you could, reply to me here and give the URL to your vlog's news
feed of choice, and also what kind of video format you use with your
vlog.

I'm going to do some testing with fireANT and see what types of video
files synchronize well to fireANT and which ones don't. Personally, I
use mp4 videos, and they port over well. :)

Thanks!

[videoblogging] Re: Adding subtitles to my videos

2005-09-11 Thread Susan
You said you have a PC. Do you have a DVD burner? Did it come with
software? Many DVD burners come with Roxio or Pinnacle.

Also, there is "Windows Movie Maker," which comes with Windows...
- Start - Programs - Accessories - Windows Movie Maker.
- Open (import) your movie.
- Draaag it down to the filmstrip at the bottom of the screen.
- Tools - Titles and Credits.
- Title on the selected clip.
- Click on change the title animation.
- Scroll up and find "subtitle".
- Edit the subtitle text, font, color, etc.

Hope this helps! :)

Randolfe --

Aww--you're so cute--thank you for mentioning me. :)

Here's some more info:

pmachine.com offers its free software, pmachine. It also offers
Expression Engine, which is a pay-for software, but which offers
many more options for modification.

blogger.com is a great resource for those who want simple
blogging... but for those who want more power (ah ah! POWAH!) over
their blogging, more modifications and such, PM and EE are great
tools to use, and I vouch for them both all the time.

[videoblogging] Re: Soldiers Back Home Vlog

2005-09-10 Thread Susan
I won't go into the political side of this, and this may be a bit
off-topic, but here's something GREAT you can do for soldiers that
are currently in Iraq, Afghanistan, or elsewhere...

Do you work with someone who is deployed right now? Visit with
their team, and bring your movie camera (or, in my case, my Sony
M1). Ask his team members to say hello, tell him what's been going
on, and that they miss him. Take short clips--less than 30
seconds. Then walk around work and take some pictures... for me,
our campus is 20-something buildings, so there's all kinds of neat
things to take pictures of that will make a soldier remember home--
the cafeteria, maybe the smoking area ;) etc.

Then put all that footage on a DVD, find out their mailing address,
and mail it to them. I guarantee they will cry.

I have done it for two guys who work for my company, neither of
which I had even ever met in person, and they both contacted me when
they came home, and said how thankful they were.

I hate to admit it, but I'm very register-happy about my comments.
I know that there's spam-deterrents out there, but I just like
having my fans have to log in. ;)
