[videoblogging] 3D animator [WAS Re: Elephants Dream film is an open source success story]

2006-05-31 Thread ojjolly

Hi Johnie,

Thanks. I'd say that about 70% of the animation is new for each
episode. Thanks for your tips... some things for me to consider.

Just spent quite a bit of time following several links on your
cartoons page on cartoonmogul.com. Wow! The modeling and character
animiation of Sussi, highly dynamic Dance on Web, Ze Frank humor,
overwhelming, what a collection!

 Hey OJ,

I took a look at your animated vlog - good stuff! I guess it is a
matter of finding your week to week format - how the show is going to
appear from episode to episode? So you will be able to streamline
your productions from week to week. Do you create all the animation
from scratch with each episode?

I know a few animators that follow a story bible for all their
episodes and produce several episodes (ahead of time) before release
on the net...that way they are able to release one a week while
producing the others.

Some simplify their animation format or look of the show in order
to deliver a weekly show...but the animation is not so complex.

[videoblogging] 3D animator [WAS Re: Elephants Dream film is an open source success story]

2006-05-30 Thread ojjolly

Thanks, Josh! I'm doing the animations in Poser, using pre-made,
customized pre-made models, and original models. The original models
are made in Lightwave. I did not know of the 3dwarehouse... looks
very promising so far. Thanks for the tip. I usually prowl around
http://renderosity.com/ and http://daz3d.com/ when shopping for
pre-made models.

I agree, Casey. Pre-mades are the only way to go when time is a
concern.

I've been using live footage with the animations at times, which
usually speeds things up a bit, but mostly I use the live footage for
reasons other than speed.

At this point I am only posting about once every 2 weeks.

Thanks, Josh. I have found the Fast-Start option in my application
(Vegas) and I indeed may have changed something there. I was under
the impression that that option had more to do with streaming from a
streaming server though.

 I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think m4v files will Fast-Start.

On the technical side, just flattening the video file won't cause
it to Fast-Start (i.e. Progressive Download). You'll need to check
 for the Fast-Start option when exporting from your application;
 there's a difference between flattened and fast-start.

Thanks for your response, Kevin, but this didn't work for me. I
cleared my cache and history before downloading to be sure I was
downloading the new flattened mov.

I always go from uncompressed mov, then export the movie to ipod
(m4v), then save as self-contained movie, so I think the old file was
actually already flattened. I do it this way so that the file will
play on an ipod. My older movies played by progressive download in a
browser. My new ones do not. I was wondering if pehaps there was
some setting somewhere that I switched inadvertently.

The most common reason in my experience is that the movie has been
edited but not flattened since it was made. If you do a save as
