Clever, unusual, edgy, avant garde, NOT up to spec FOR BROADCAST,
inexpensive but cool, wide angle lens idea.

Quality varies wildly with these, esp. when you get into the smaller (wider)
multipliers. I would stick with the more reputable brands (Century Optics,
Canon) unless you have the chance to try before you buy (or a source with a
great return policy). Since they aren't actual lenses but rather lens
adapters, also remember you are adding another piece of glass to your whole
lens assembly (with your existing zoom already wide - meaning more of the
surface of the lens in focus) so keeping things clean and the aperture as
open as possible becomes crucial.

OTOH, the weird distortion from the cheapo brands can be great for those of
us who like the option to turn our camcorders into video Holgas/Dianas/Lomos
when the mood strikes.

[videoblogging] Re: question about wide angle lenses

2007-06-01 Thread Bill Streeter
The lens I use is a .45 and it's pretty good because I don't get a
lot of vignetting around the edges which can be a problem with some
of the cheaper lenses. Of course it probably helps that I got a lens
that was too big for the camera and use a step ring to attach it. My
camera has a 43mm threaded lens and thats an odd size so there
aren't too many options for lenses. So I got a 52mm and use a 52 to
43 step ring (cost about $8 or so) to connect it to the camera.
Works great.

A wide angle lens is definately one of my must have accesories ...
That and a monopod.

One other advantage to shooting with a wide angle lens besides
making it possible to shoot in smaller spaces is that it makes hand
held shooting seem smoother because the camera movements aren't
quite as pronounced as when you are shooting through a telephoto
lens.

Telephotos are messured in number of times of magnification 1x

Some lenses blur our when you zoom in a lot. I have a .7 that does
that and a .5 that doesnt.

I would assume that with macro means full zoom through.

macro lets you do extreme close up, like filming bugs, flowers water
droplets etc. this is when lens very close to subject (as opposed to
long way away and using a big zoom lens) and most lenses can't focus
that close. so good if you want close ups of things that you are
close up too :-)
