on the upside of their shop looking like it's 1973...
the people there were super friendly, returned my phone calls,
hell, the even remembered me
it wasn't like some insane call center warehouse tech repair place.

and then sanyo replaced my camera.
so i give them props
even though it took too long.

That's the OFFICIAL repair shop? Wow, i'd say thats a good enough reason not to
purchase

just to let y'all know
got a call from the skokie repair shop
sanyo is replacing the broken one.

hurray!
but also, oh shit!
does that mean in 6 months this one will die too?

like jay said we sent our other one
directly to the designer of the E1 in japan
so i'm hoping they can check it out
and diagnose

you just can't win.

yeah...i've used Xacti's since the C4.
Its just a nice design...and has always done well for me.
i like that it's like a little video camera that takes
photosversus a little photo camera that takes video.

without knowing being tested, the waterproof E-1 might have a leak in it.
i think hats why the screens go out after time. (still records fine though)
We just mailed ours to Japan so they could test it.
we'll see if they actually fix problems...or ignore them. so far so good.

Canon came out with a similar design last year that I havent tried yet.

Holy crap this sucks.

I was VERY much looking forward to buying an E1 this summer. I've
never had trouble with my old C6, but I'd just about kill for better
sound and low-light performance. Don't think a dead screen after 6
months is worth the trade, though. And a two-month repair wait is
totally bananas.

To David I'd still recommend an old c6. You can get them pretty
cheaply on eBay.

If I do spring for an E1 you'd better believe I'll pay extra for
in-store coverage, which I don't usually do. This time, though, it
seems essential.

Damn. What a bummer.

[videoblogging] Re: sanyo xacti e1 LCD Screen issue

2008-02-19 Thread Steve Watkins
I guess it might be that the nice things about this camera are so nice, that
people are
willing to overlook even a serious flaw. I have that sort of relationship with
quite a lot of
Apple stuff but Ive never had one of these Xacti cameras, it sounds like I
should resist or
face the possibility of getting addicted. Still as I love progressive video Im
sure the
temptation to get one that does 720p will be too much for me at some point...mmm

Where can I read more about the LCD problems and how common they might be, what
models etc? I guess I'll google and post a link if I find anything
particularily revealing,
unless I already missed some links about this issue?

Cheers

2008-02-19 Thread Heath
It is interesting.based on what I have read, I would not buy one
until this issue has been resolved, and I do find it curious that you
would buy another knowing that it could fail again. I thought I also
read that someone's camera has been out for repair for 2 months!?
That's crazy

I mean from the outside looking in, that just seems oddfunny odd,
not I have and axe odd ;)

Re: [videoblogging] Re: sanyo xacti e1 LCD Screen issue

2008-02-19 Thread Christopher Bergeron
Ryanne.

That's great! I was feeling a bit self concious about
wanting to buy another one, but as long as I'm not
alone I suppose it can't be that bad. The biggest
problem with the xacti's are they they are addicting.

It's great to just have a camera in my pocket all the
time, and like you said great picture and great sound.
But next time I'm going to get the equiptment
replacement plan where I can just swap it out for a
new one if it happens again.

i find this hilarious
we sound like crazy people
both mine broke
but i want another!

these are great cameras when they're working.
they take really nice video
and the sound rocks.

i also hope sanyo will respond.
they are aware of the problem.
so that's good.

these cameras have a one year warranty
so anyone with an issue should be able to call the support line and send it
off for repair.
reminds me, i need to call the repair place now!

Yeah, this is sad to hear, but did any of you get insurance on it?
I have one that hasnt crapped out yet but I have amazon insurance that costs
about $50.

Hopefully if/when mine dies, I'll be able to just swap it out.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: sanyo xacti e1 LCD Screen issue

2008-02-19 Thread Christopher Bergeron
I would still buy it.

Just buy it in a store and get the carry it and swap
it out no questions asked deal.

It's still a great camera. I'm currious how support
is going to work out, BUT I'm seriously tempted to buy
a 2nd E1 ! ! To hold me though durring the wait and
then of course to have a second camera once the other
is returned.

Unless I get distracted by another camera. I think
I'd like one with an external mike jack... Hmmm my 2nd
camera doesn't need to be waterproof? Any
suggestions?

Can't afford the Canon XH-A1 though... Need to make a
decision and place an order of some kind before I can
mail this bad boy off to be repaired.

NO!
I've been saving for 6 months to get the Xacti E1.
Picked up some side work and been stashing away so I can get an E1
before summer and the pool opening.

Uggh! UGGH! Say it ain't so.

[videoblogging] Re: sanyo xacti e1 LCD Screen issue

2008-02-18 Thread David Howell
Glad I read these posts on the Xacti. Im selling all my cameras but would like
to have a
smaller cam that I could catch things on from time to time. Reports like these
have
certainly changed my mind about getting a Xacti.

Sorry to hear you are all having troubles however Im glad to get this info
before I put out
money for something that is going to crap out.
