Re: [Videolib] Disc resurfacing units?
I agree with Jane. RTI make a great machine. We have three of them in our system, including a Eco-Senior which recycles the water and can work on up to 50 discs in a single session (without reloading). RTI machines are not cheap and do not fit everyone's budget, but I believe they are the best product on the market.Their service center has always been more than helpful in troubleshooting the machines when repairs/tweaks are necessary. Re: [Videolib] Disc resurfacing units?
Thought I'd chime in with our RTI experiences, to provide a counterpoint to the positives mentioned so far. We had an EcoSmart hybrid something-or-other (didn't match any single machine in the catalog or training dvds) that gave us repeated problems over the course of two years -- constant problems with suction, motor performance, you name it. Our experiences with service were less than ideal as well. We were told to maintain the machine in some pretty onerous ways (backing all fluids out between uses, making it a very time-intensive process; using toothpicks and Vaseline to ensure that components didn't get clogged, etc.). The machine was sent back for repair on several occasions -- not a simple thing given its size and weight. In short, it was out of order much more than it was working. Finally, after some wrangling, a new machine was sent to us. It has been working well so far (knock wood), but yes, it does involve a number of different solutions and parts and is not the most intuitive machine to operate. Best, * Meghann Matwichuk, M.S. Re: [Videolib] Question about buying Blu-Rays
We are buying Blu-Ray now. They are somewhat popular but certainly not as popular as DVDs. This holiday season I believe the players will start to go down in price and become more popular. Keep in mind that you can play a DVD on a Blu-Ray player so really you are just opening up your options by buying a Blu-Ray player. It would not bother me if a film was offered in Blu-Ray only. Packaging does not matter as we will put it in our own packaging. Julia Churchill Audio Visual Supervisor Oak Lawn Public Library 9427 S. Re: [Videolib] Question about buying Blu-Rays
My medium-size public library would buy a Blu-ray only title if available without PPR or tiered pricing for educational institutions. Packaging is not important. If the film came out in both formats, we'd buy the DVD first and consider Blu-ray if patron demand warranted. I take the article below about Blu-ray penetration as supporting the argument for maintaining a small Blu-ray collection, especially since my library's mission is to use a variety of material types and formats to serve patrons. Blu-rays seem to be complimenting rather than replacing DVDs; they're not mutually exclusive. Re: [Videolib] Disc resurfacing units?
We decided it was more cost effective (equipment purchase and staff time) to continue sending scratched discs to a cleaning service. We use Rubberdisc. I'm sure there are additional companies out there. Actual number of problem discs has been surprisingly minimal so this works.
