Re: [Videolib] From LP to CD

2012-07-26 Thread Graham, Marlene
There are inexpensive turntables ($50- $200), made by Audio Technica, Sony, ION
and other companies, that you can purchase that have a USB output that connects
to your computer that allows you to copy LPs to your computer and create to a
digital file.

I am not certain of the copyright law on this.

Cheers,

I need some group wisdom!

A colleague sent me this question:
A friend of mine asked if I knew of an individual or company, preferably
local, that transfers LP recordings to CDs. Do you know of such an entity?

My first thought it that this sounds like it would be a violation of copyright
and I will advise her of that...that being said...does anyone know of such a
company who will do this?

Thanks in advance,
Julie

Also try Women Make Movies, and Third World Newsreel. You'll be delighted. All
are almost primarily docs. No features.

Subject: [Videolib] Question about Latin American and Spanish Films
Dear All,

I am new to this listserv and have an immediate, specific question. I am trying
to find a source that has films from Latin America or Spain which our academic
library can buy which will include the Public Performance Rights. I have looked
at the Kino International catalog but it seems they have a very limited number
of titles from this region. Can anyone recommend another source that would have
more titles from this region that would include the PPR?

Many thanks for your assistance in advance. Feel free to contact me off-list.

Third World Newsreel distributes a film called Creative Detours. Here is a
description below. For more info go to www.twn.orghttp://www.twn.org

Creative Detours, 1992, 10 minutes
In this short narrative, a young woman moves to New York City from the Midwest
in order to develop her writing and to share an apartment with her boyfriend.
Distracted from her new creative life-style, she is soon challenged by her best
friend to work harder to foster her own growth as an artist.

Hello CW,

I have a faculty member teaching Women and Writing this Fall and she would like
to show a film with these parameters:

..maybe a film they have seen before or a more subtle indictment of the sexism
faced by both females and males. One of my favorite quotes from an essay is
that while women are seen as sex objects, men are seen as success objects. I
guess I am trying to find a film that shows this dynamic.

I suggested von Trier, Lynch and Labute (since they always get criticized on
these issues). I also suggested Film Noir in general, and of course, Disney
films. Other suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

lorraine
