Actually, I was experimenting with this. It seems that if the keyboard is

Where Did It Put My Podcasts?

2012-11-08 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I installed Downcast onto my IPhone 5, and allegedly, transferred two podcast
to it via ITunes. But they don't show up in Downcast, and I can't find them
anywhere else. When I try to transfer them again, it tells me they already
exist in this location, and wants to know if I want to replace them. So, where
did it put them? Is there a podcast program already on my phone, other than
downcast? I have never found any program called podcasts.

Thanks in advance for any information.

looking for TB headset

2012-11-08 Thread Negoslav Sabev

Hello,

I am looking for Bluetooth stereo headset for my iPhone 4s. I want it to be
Siri compatible, stylish, not very big, with good battery life, not in ear
plugged, no mic before my mouth, good sounding on music and calls, water and
moisture proved , multipoint ability. It is good to have voice battery
notification. Can you recommend something that costs up to $100?
I liked the abilities of Plantronics Voyager Legend, but am not sure it is
stereo, also don't like that is big and with extended mic. The other one I
liked is Plantronics m1100, but it can not launch Siri. So if someone has
this models I'd be glad to hear their opinion. Now I am trying Kinivo BTH
220, but its controls are not very good. It's not Siri compatible and I can
not fast forward or backward audio from the headset.

apple wire less problem

2012-11-08 Thread Pablo Morales

Hi list.
Since I installed IOs 6.0 in my iPhone, I started to have a weird problem
with the apple wireless keyboard. Some times, when I am texting, or when I
am in settings changing any configuration, and I need to type something. The
keyboard type more characters that should type. For example when I am
texting, and i try to type hi, the most part of the times in the screen
appear hhhi, and is not way to make the keyboard work like before I
install IOs6. Maybe it is not the issue, but I am having this problem since
that moment.

Any body knows what could be happening with this issue?
Thanks

What I really like about the Focus 14 Blue is that despite the small
form factor the braille keys are the largest I have yet seen on any

farily fast is nice. I prefer larger keys in order to keep the typos
to a minimum.
Another feature which I personally don't want to live without are the
cursor routing keys which not all the small displays have.

Last, but not least, it has about 20 to 22 hours of battery life which
is very nice indeed.

I work for a Company here in Denmark dealing with Freedom Products so
some might argue that I am biased. Still, I really do like the focus
14 very much.

Re: TheCodingMonkeys Lost Cities.

2012-11-08 Thread Gabriel Battaglia (Kriyaban)

Hi Regina.

Questions about Lost Cities!

1. Where do I find how to play against the computer.
A1: Select new game, than one inbetween the airon, bronze and silver shield player who are in top o the opponent's list which will
appears.

2. I do not find anything about playing a city.

A2: City is just an idea that stands behind the game. The colored lines are the
metaphorical cities or businness you must get.

3. When I started play last night, I could get about 3 plays into the game
and all my cards and the color discard piles were dimmed. All I could find
to do is to quit. Is there a more detailed how-to-play anywhere?
A3: It was probably because it wasn't your turn. And it wasn't your turn because you have choosen an human opponent insted of a
computer one.

Yes, I also like auto-scrolling; my old braillelite does this. You start
 the
scrolling with a chord command and then can adjust the speed as you read.
For long documents and books, it's wonderful! You don't have to sit there

Re: Sonos

2012-11-08 Thread Neil Barnfather - TalkNav
Dear Scott,

I use Sonos a lot, I think the price is worth it from the stance that the
system is highly flexible whilst being easy to use.

Firstly, Voice Over, other than 5 labelling issues, the iOS controllers work
very well. These buttons are the back track, play/pause and next track buttons…
as well as two other buttons which relate to the album artwork, so not such a
big deal.

The play related buttons are miss labelled, but, never the less the existing
Sonos labels make sense enough to use them without labelling, however, its a
small thing to label in Voice Over if you need to.

To Sonos itself, the system is good, I like using it and find it offers a good
degree of versatility in terms of what you can do with it.

RE: Please how to make Iphone a personal wifi hotspot

2012-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Mária,

All you have to do is go to Settings and Personal Hotspot. In iOS 6 it's
the fourth item from the top right after Bluetooth.

Tom's comment that tethering is only available from some providers on more
expensive shared plans most likely won't apply to you, in fact, I don't
think it applies to most people outside of the United States where providers
don't consider tethering something they have to charge extra for. I am in
Canada and it's been many years when providers charged extra for tethering,
now if I have 2 Gigs of data and I decide to use it all up in half an hour
by connecting my laptop and download a bunch of movies that's my problem and
I am pretty sure that providers in Europe do the same as they are even more
flexible than here.

Double tap on Personal Hotspot, then double tap where Voiceover says
Personal Hotspot, Off. This is just like turning Bluetooth on, once you
tap it it will change to Personal Hotspot, On.

Please note that if you have Bluetooth turned off and you turn on Personal
Hotspot you will get the following warning message:

Bluetooth is off.
Personal Hotspot will only be available over WiFi and USB. Do you also want
to enable it over Bluetooth?
Turn on Bluetooth button, WiFi and USB only Button

The same applies to WiFi, if your WiFi is off you would get the identical
message except that instead of telling you that Bluetooth was off WiFi is
off and if both Bluetooth and WiFi are off it would tell you that and give
you the option to turn on both.

I only used Hotspot a couple of times when I didn't have WiFi available, but
I wanted to use my laptop to get online. I just plugged my iPhone intot he
laptop with the iPhone cable and my laptop connected to it immediately. This
is also the most secure method although if you do enable connecting via WiFi
or Bluetooth you do have to enter a password.
you are not at home and connected to your WiFi and turned WiFi off to save
battery, it will give you a similar message

Once Personal Hotspot is on and you enabled Bluetooth and WiFi, it will now
tell you that your device is discoverable and that others can look for your
shared network under the name Maria's iPhone if that is what your iPhone
is called.

Below that it will list the WiFi password you have to use to connect, this
is not something you can change and you have to make sure you use the exact
spelling including upper and lower case. This will change, e.g. if you turn
Personal Hotspot off and turn it on again later, the WiFi password will be
different.

Lastly, below the WiFi password is an explanation on how to connect using
Bluetooth and the USB Cable.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Hi Scott,

Did you also purchase a ZoneBridge? You can use your Play:5 without a
ZoneBridge, but then it becomes less of a portable device since you will
have to connect it to your router via a network cable hence you limit
yourself in placing it in reach of your router and you can't take it to
another room unless you have an actual Ethernet cable going to that room.

Re: Focus 14 comments

2012-11-08 Thread Traci
Wow, thank you for this description. It's helpful informative.

A little further discussion on the keyboard, are the keys rubbery or plastic?
I'm trying to get a feeling for it. I heard a youTube video, where a user
typed on the rb18, I'm guessing those keys are plastic.

I listened to a podcast on the fb14 and it sounded like there was a slight
squeak in the recording, but I couldn't tell if that was happening when he was
brailing, or if it was something in the background.

Lol, I'm afraid the only braille keys I could compare all this to is the old
braille 'N Speak. If anyone remembers that device. :)

A question for you braille users, how often do you find yourself typing in
8-dot braille? I know on the fb14 the dots 78 are placed more ergonomically.

A little side note here, I've learned the battery life of the Perkins Mini is
only 10 hours on bluetooth. A pretty large difference in comparison to the
other small displays.

Yes, I also like auto-scrolling; my old braillelite does this. You start the
scrolling with a chord command and then can adjust the speed as you read. For
long documents and books, it's wonderful! You don't have to sit there and pan
 continually!

Facebook question and copying iTunes library from one pc to another

2012-11-08 Thread Shane Clark
Hi,
Has anyone noticed with the new Fb app, you cannot delete messages using the
swiping method as before? Besides going to the site does anyone know of another
way to do this?
How would I go about copying my iTunes library from my desktop, over to my
laptop? I think I could copy the library to my external hard drive, and then
plug the hard drive into the laptop, and put it on there? And what would I copy
within the iTunes library, and how is all of this done?
Thanks.

If the Mini is comfortable to use, I'd gladly give up the battery life for its
extra features. 10 hours is more than I'd use a display in a single day, and if
I were using it stand alone, then I assume I could turn off bluetooth and the
battery life would go up. I had a 32-cell display that worked well enough, but
I couldn't get use to the placement of the space keys so ended up selling it.

Re: the big jam box or the Bose sound link mobil speker

2012-11-08 Thread don bishop

Steve,

We also have the big jambox and really like it. We have an inmotion air
from alteklancing which sounds great but is really a bear to pair as you
describe below. No audio feedback, so it's hard to know if you're in
pairing mode or not. Also, no audible battery indicator.

The big jambox is definitely the way to go in my opinion.

Also, I tried adjusting the equalizer on the iphone 4s and it did seem
to help a bit.

Don

On 11/8/2012 12:04 PM, Steve wrote:

Casey,

I posted on this a couple weeks ago in a different discussion. I have
both speakers. You can look at more in-depth reviews on either one on
large sites like Amazon.

First, as to sound quality and loudness. The Big Jambox is a bit louder
than the Bose SoundLink. When we're in the hot tub, it is a bit harder
to talk with the Jambox than the Bose, so the Jambox is slightly
louder. As for sound quality, both are great. I'd say the Jambox has
more presence.

From an audiophile standpoint, presence is a slightly more marked or

prevalent midrange. The Bose Soundlink, on the other hand, has slightly
better bass, but I don't think the midrange or high-end is quite as
crisp. Several Jambox reviews on Amazon have noted that you can, if you
want, duplicate the extra bass by adjusting your iPod/iPhone equalizer.

There is no, absolutely no, contest when it comes to usability. The
Jambox wins hands-down.

The Bose is basically a speaker-only. It has six buttons across the
top; power, aux, bluetooth, a slight gap then mute, volume down and
volume up. The only time the Bose will beep is when you plug in the
charger or hold the bluetooth button in long enough (about ten seconds)
to erase all the bluetooth memories. It is the size of a hard-back book
and the cover opens to allow the speaker to stand on it. Closing the
cover will turn off the speaker. The Bose has a bit shorter battery
life than the Jambox, and there is no way to get feedback on remaining
battery charge unless you can see the Led display and remember the
two-button command. If you only plan to pair it with one device, then
the following will probably not apply. However, if like us, you intend
to pair it with more than one device, you will find that the pairing
process can be a bit frustrating. Rarely, it will be nice and pair by
just selecting the bluetooth option on the Bose. More often than not, I
have to hold the bluetooth button in for three seconds to put it in
discovery mode, go to the iPhone and go into Setting, General Bluetooth
and select the Bose from the list.

The Jambox, on the other hand, almost pairs too easily. At times, I've
turned it on and it will automatically see my phone and pair. All of a
sudden, the phone comes blasting through the speaker. Even though my
wife and I alternate who's phone is going to play music on a particular
day, we rarely have to go into settings on our iPhone to pair, the
Jambox automatically remembers these things and will usually pair
without any extra crap. Rarely, I've had to hit the bluetooth discovery
button on the Jambox, but very rarely. In addition, the Jambox can be
set up to talk whenevery you turn it on. It will tell you the battery
level remaining, whether it is in discovery mode or not, whether you
have normal or Live Mode selected, etc. The Jambox has two pushbutton
switches on the side, the upper one is power, the bottom one is
Bluetooth discovery. Across the top are six buttons. The left
circular one is Talk and it will tell you battery level, the next one is
Play/Pause if I recall, the next two are rewind and fast-forward (they
work just like the rewind and fast-forward buttons on your music player,
double-tap to go back or up to the next song; hold in for rewinding or
fast-forwarding in a song), the final two buttons are minus and plus for
volume. If you hold both those in, if I recall correctly, you switch
between Normal and Live mode. The Jambox also has a microphone built
in, so if you get a phone call, you can answer the phone.

Both the Bose site and the Jambox site seem difficult to use if you want
to update the software. I don't think an update is out yet for the
Bigger Jambox. I've written Jambox support about the accessibility
issues, and found them very responsive, but I don't think they have made
any changes on their website. The one update I think I managed to do on
the Bose Soundlink was a real challenge. I had to use the Jaws
Convenient OCR as there were graphics you needed to click that none of
the Windows-based screen-readers would recognize, and this also applied

Capital One app updated

The capital One app was just updated and from my quick
perusal it is an improvement.
No more with the workaround on the opening screen and the options
are a little clearer.

Plus, it speaks a hang on while it's busy logging in or whatever.

a message for Raul about the blu tooth keyboard you did the podcast on

2012-11-08 Thread Casey

Hello Raul I listened to your podcast.
Last night about that Amazon blu tooth keyboard they you did.
So I am guessing that you have had this keyboard A while.
If so are you still liking it as well as you did when you first got it?
Or do you have another keyboard that you like better then that one?
So now that you have that keyboard is there A certain keyboard that you
like for using with the I Phone when you are out and about?
So please share on the portable blu tooth keyboard that you have for
your phone as well and what made you select that one over all the rest
of them.

problems with apple wireless keyboard

2012-11-08 Thread Pablo Morales

Hi list.
Since I installed IOs6, I started to see a problem with the keyboard. The
problem is that in some places, like texting, or adding contacts, or using
some apps like whatsup, the keyboard repeat several times the key that I
push. It make me have a very hard time, because I can't write what ever I
need to write. The weird thing is that it happen, texting, or using whatsup,
but doesn't happen writing emails. Other part where it happen, is when I
type a item name if I want to change the VO name for a item.
I don't know what can I do, but It never happened before when I was running
the earlyer versions of IOs.

Thanks for your help.
Yours truly,
Pablo

Re: Where Did It Put My Podcasts?

2012-11-08 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I used file sharing. It is about 14 hours after my original message. I have
figured out that I have to go into tools, under the more tab, and tell
downcast to import these files into itself. I now can get all three of them
to play, let's hope I can figure out how to delete them once I play them.

Hi Arnold,

When you say you transferred podcasts from iTunes to Downcast, what do you
mean? What steps did you take? Did you copy files of podcast episodes using
iTunes file sharing, or import podcast feeds?

Thanks,
Ana

How Can I See More Of These Tabs

2012-11-08 Thread Arnold Schmidt
The app for one of our local television stations was just updated, and now has
24 tabs. Along the bottom of the screen are five of them, traffic being the
fifth one. In my very brief IPhone experience, in other situations such as
this, there has been a more button, it is not on here. How do I get to the
next 19 tabs?

If it be necessary to load this onto your phone to investigate it, search
wral in the app store, and load the news app. It is free.

Again, thanks for any information.

Re: iPad Mini vs full-size

I have them both and I think its all relative. The finger cramping is possible
on both iPads and the iPhone. I like the mini for portability and I use it for
an intermediate device. I can go from my phone to the mini to the full then to
my Air on up to the Retina and believe it or not all of them serve their own
purpose.
I would say if you got the money get one but its not a must have for most.

managing my calendars with my iphone

2012-11-08 Thread Candy

Hello everyone,
Prior to getting my iphone, I used the yahoo calendar. I found it very
accessible. Now that I have my iphone, I can still use my yahoo calendar, but,
when I set up an event on my phone, it sends it to my yahoo calendar in grenich
time. When I look at an event on my phone that I have entered on my computer,
I get the Grenich time. Is their any way to fix it that all calendars would
have the same time, in other words, the event on my computer and the event on
my phone having the same time.

has a stable feel to it.

I also like the fact that when you don't want to use the keyboard, you simply
turn the iPad with the screen facing down, and it will automatically attach to
the keyboard, using magnets that are built in to the iPad. It then becomes a
very compact unit that is easy to carry around with you.

 Hope this helps.

RE: iTunes message when hooking up device -- what does this mean and what do I do?

2012-11-08 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
I'm not real tech-savvy, but an iPodTouch linked by wire to a PC running iTunes
on which there is a backup shouldn't invoke a firewall issue, as far as I can
imagine.

With the iPhone setup, I went ahead and attempted a restore via iCloud, and
this appears to be going well via WiFi. If this was a firewall issue, I'm
thinking this shouldn't be working.

Question remains about dialog in iTunes on connect about Apple Mobile Device
Service is not connected.

Maybe I'm wrong, and it is somehow a firewall issue, but would appreciate help
with that or some other trouble-shooting advice.

Thanks. Keith

I hope the other suggestion of rebooting your computer worked.

It depends on the firewall, the operating system and so on.
I'm dealing with some computer issues of my own this evening, so I am sorry

Re: a message for Raul about the blu tooth keyboard you did the podcast on

2012-11-08 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, first off, glad you gave it a listen. In case new users are reading
this message, I did a podcast on the Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard.
Look for it on my home page at http://raulgallegos.com. Now to answer
your question. This was the keyboard I ended up with after trying out
about 4 of them. In all fairness, the prior ones I tried were not
current ones, meaning I haven't tried the Verbatim one which is
mentioned quite frequently here. I also haven't tried the Freedom one
which has been mentioned through the last couple of years. Nor have I
tried some of the other ones which are popular on Amazon, like the Zagg
Bluetooth keyboards. I have tried out the Apple Bluetooth keyboard and
like it fine, however I wanted to try out one which was less expensive.
Yes, I still use this keyboard, and yes, it's now my keyboard of choice.
I have also tried out other smaller keyboards like the one which
SpeedDots sells, but found that if I was going to go that small, I might
as well use the onscreen keyboard since it provided me with the almost
the same speed. I would highly recommend either the Amazon Basics one or
the Apple one for someone who wants a full size keyboard. Keep in mind
that the Apple one is more sturdy, but costs more. Keep in mind that
although the Amazon one is about half the price, it's still a very nice
alternative, and as long as you are not one to constantly drop things,
it will work just fine. I have since purchased a Targus bag which is
meant for tablets, and use it to store my keyboard, chargers, Bluetooth
headphones, and few other iPhone accessories when I travel and this has
worked out just fine in keeping my keyboard safe.

I hope this answers your questions.

Thanks.

2012-11-08 Thread Gail the U. S. male
I'm writing this message on that very keyboard! It's a great little keyboard!
The keys are comfortable to use, and the size of keys on a normal keyboard.
This is a light weight, but very well built keyboard. I'd like to thank Raul
for doing that podcast! My laptop died, and I was trying to figure out how I
was going to manage without a computerusing this keyboard, and my iPhone four,
I've been able to browse the net, get through some of my more than 8 thousand
messages, and find I'm constantly grabbing it, turning it on, and waiting a few
seconds, and doing whatever I need to do. I would highly reccomend this
keyboard as well, and at just over $35, it was in my budget, at a rather
awkward time for me.

RE: iTunes message when hooking up device -- what does this mean and what do I do?

2012-11-08 Thread Joney
I get this from time to time. I went to Apple's help section and this is
what it says to do.

Unplug your I device, turn off iTunes, go into control panel, click on
administrative tools, click on services, arrow down to Apple Mobile Device,
Right click on it and turn the service off. Right click on it again and
turn it back on. Make sure it is set to automatic. Turn iTunes back and I
device back on. It should load then.

I've had to do this a few times. I think it is something going on in the
latest version of iTunes or IOs6.

Hope this helps.

RE: Another replacement iPhone 4S question

2012-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Shane,

I also can't turn down the call volume and turn up VO volume, this happened
for me after the upgrade to iOS 6. Apparently not all devices are affected,
if yours is then the only solution if you have to enter numbers during a
call is to use a headset at least until Apple fixes this in a future update.

As for not hearing Voiceover announce new email this is most likely just a
result how the notifications are set up. First of all, you can check if
Speak Notifications in Lock Screen is on. This is in Settings,
General, Accessibility and Voiceover.

You may also want to review the notification settings for the Mail app in
Settings, Notifications and Mail.

Good luck,
Sieghard

down the phone all the way either on the phone or on the speaker phone. I
can't remember if I could do this on my old iPhone 4S or not. Is this normal

Secondly, I've noticed with this phone, whenever I get an email while on a
