RE: External Battery choice

2013-08-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I guess we shall see, but I would disagree. You can still buy a ton of docks
with 30-Pin connectors and while the iPhone 4S and, for that matter anything
else with a 30-Pin connector will most likely be officially discontinued by
Apple when the new iPhone comes out, there are still millions, actually tens
of millions of 30-Pin devices out there and people who buy them used or own
them will continue to look for 30-Pin accessories.

Hi andy,

I think it would be more accurate to say that the model of the Peak 6000
with the integrated Lightning cable doesn't talk. I was just on the MyCharge
website this morning and the model listed with the 30-Pin connector still
mentions the voice feature and it would be my guess that the 30-Pin model
will continue to have this.

The current model of the peak 6000 doesn't talk. You'll have to find a
vendor who has the older ones.

Morning list members after all the talk about external battery packs last
week. I wonder if anyone out there has an opinion regarding the following. I
am thinking of purchasing either a limeade 18000 or a peak 6000. the one
advantage to the peak 6000 is that it has the ability to speak status. Does
anyone on the list have a peak 6000? Also, come the end of the year I will
be roling over my two year contract and will be getting a new iPhone which I
assume will have the lightning connector so I don't want to be tied to a
device which has only the 32 pin connectors. I assume both of these packs
have the ability to use standard USB plugs with what ever connector at the
other end. Thanks to all for the help.

RE: Can't send to this group without sight

2013-08-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kevin,

Ultimately it is your choice how you deal with the group, but I find it most
efficient to subscribe to individual emails and to use an email address
which I specifically set up for this group. I guess you might be able to do
the same with a filter which sends all group messages to a particular
mailbox, but using a completely different address to me is easier and more
logical. So, when I come home in the evening and find 60 or 80 messages
(sometimes more) in my Inbox of the email I use for the group, it takes me
probably about 1 minute or 2 at the most to go through all the messages and
first of all delete everything I am either not interested in or feel I can't
contribute. This usually includes anything to do with games, jailbreaking
and so on. Those messages that are left I then open and read or take a quick
look, once again, there are usually a bunch which can immediately be deleted
like when people reply to a thread Thanks for that information or Yes, I
really like that app too; the usual one-liners which Raul encourages people
not to send, which everybody hates and yet which people continue to send.
Anyhow, I think you get the drift, to me having all posts in one Inbox is
not really different then logging into the Viphone list online and to browse
through the topics and if I do want to send a message or reply to one it's
way faster and easier to do this from my Inbox inside Outlook or whichever
mail client you might use then to do it on the web, really the same reason
why I prefer to use Outlook for all my email instead of the web interface.
If I have a super busy day and really can't be bothered to read anything I
just press Control+A to select all messages in the Inbox and then follow
that with Delete and bingo, my Inbox is cleaned up for another day.

Regards,
Sieghard

Now, I did solve one of my problems by figuring out how to search for

lifeproof case issue and facebook app editing current location.

2013-08-11 Thread Andrew Head
Hi all,
1.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my messages. My life proof issue got
fixed. My dad pushed the edges of the case down slightly and that seemed to do
the trick. To the person who mentioned the ottobox case, I used to have one but
prefer life proof because it's water proof where as the ottobox case for the
IPhone 5 has some wholes and a gap between the case and the ear piece and water
got in there and was trapped inbbt the case and phone which made it difficult
to use the phone until it dried out.
2. re: facebook and current location. It is automatically updated on east
status, but I want to change it in my profile info and can't seem to do that on
the phone. any help on this is greatly appreciated.

RE: Solara Game Play, Discussion, and Ideas

I just spent 750 esper on a shop just to obtain 75 more food an hour.
I however don't see shops that allow you to obtain esper an hour.
I don't think you will. This would take away from the ability to buy from
them, and buying esper from the owners is what keeps them in business. I
could be wrong though.

You get esper if you finish in the top 3 in a tournament. In my game I see:
#1 500 esper
#2 250 esper
#3 100 esper

In the quests called Seasoned Warriors, Battle Standards, you get esper.
Right now I[m getting 10 esper a quest.

You also get esper from the quest where you name your castle and a few
other quests as well.

I don't see any shops that provide esper, and I'm on level 32. If

RE: Once again, on the hutn for a cross platform rss reader

2013-08-11 Thread Geoff Stephens
I decided to try Feeddler with Bazquz.com. It is extremely fast and seems
very reliable after a couple of weeks of use. It also has more of the
features of Google Reader than any other of the new services I've tried.
There is starring and tagging, etc.

It is not free but seems very good compared to theOldreader and feedHQ.

The browser interface is not inaccessible but not perfect either. Still,
that's not the main method I use to access things so it doesn't worry me too
much. I will evaluate the site again before my trial expires and I decide
to pay. Still, I think this may be the one I go with.

I have pretty much stopped using Lire at this point. Although I love its
frequent updates, it seems there is always something. I was one of those
affected by the bug that caused old articles to show and this persisted for
a few days causing me a lot of frustration. I will keep Lire and may still
use it. But for what I want, Feeddler is really the best thing for me right
now.

I may also try inoreader since it is available now.

Yeah, I was surprised to hear TheOldReader changed their tune. Based on
their blog article where they announced they'd be going private, they were
pretty adamant that they weren't looking for money, resources or help. They
just wanted a good news reading experience and their lives back.

As late as yesterday, I was still getting 503 errors when trying to use
TheOldReader with Feeddler, and I've had lots of problems the last two or
three weeks getting updates and having my information synced.

I am trying inoreader now, and it seems to be a lot faster and more reliable
when using it with Feeddler. The web interface seems usable with Orca and
Firefox and Chrome with ChromeVox, but I'm still evaluating it.

 the long run.

I may in fact give FeedHQ a spin. It looks like the Old reader is
staying public after all, but with all the down time and other buggy
issues with synchronization being lagging at times, searching out an
alternative is something I'll look into regardless. Hopefully the
various TOR issues are behind it, but still.

I did give InoReader a try since I also heard it mentioned being a
light and easy rss service to use and Feeddler even in its latest
update provides Inoreader support, but the webpage isn't all that
accessible and even less so with IE. Firefox is a bit better, but
 still generallly not useable.

In any event, thanks again for the suggestions and I'll see if FeedHQ
 works for me.

Bruno Renie, the owner of FeedHQ, has been very responsive to my
email about accessibility. I asked him to label some buttons, and he
did so quite quickly and emailed me when he had done so. The
software is open source, and the pages are quite clean when accessed
 via my screen reader.

Re: External Battery choice

2013-08-11 Thread Steve
I have the mycharge. It has a male USB connector, as well as an iPhone
connector. It holds enough charge to charge the iPhone three times, at
least.

The MyCharge Amp 6000 might do what you want and looks to have similar
features to mine, except that the power level doesn't talk.

Mine is myCharge Peak 6000 Rechargeable Power Bank
  1.. $79.99from: Amazon.com

The my Charge Peak 6000 Rechargeable Power Bank has 6000mAh of power that
will meet your most demanding portable charging needs. The Peak adds 27
hours of talk time and can charge up to three devices at once. Built-in
Micro-USB and Apple connectors - plus the on-board USB port for use with
your own cable - will charge a variety of portable phones, tablets, and
digital devices. The built-in USB charging cable lets you charge Peak from
any USB port, or plug Peak's fold-out prongs into a wall power outlet for
ultra-fast recharging. You will know when your Peak is full via tone and
voice notifications, in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

2.. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Re: External Battery choice

2013-08-11 Thread Alan Paganelli
There are more kinds of cell phone chargers out there then just what Apple
offers. I have 1 such charger made by iGo. It's only a 1800 mAh battery with
2 USB ports. It's smaller then a deck of playing cards but can recharge a dead
iPhone. There is a recessed charge button that when pressed starts the
recharge cycle. You use your phone's sync/charge cable and when you view the
battery status in the top right-hand corner it says the present status and
charging. When charging is complete, the battery disconnects. You can
actually be walking down the street talking on your phone wile it's recharging.
I have used the charger to recharge both my wife's and my iPhones. Granted,
it charges slower that way but left charging over night it will get the job
done. It also has the flip out AC wall plug so you can use it as an AC source
for 2 devices. I'm told but have not seen it that iGo also has the same thing
but that they add the ability to charge the 1800 mAh battery via solar giving
you a wide range of choices. So I'm thinking that with a 1800 mAh rechargeable
battery solar charger and an AC plug, that should pretty much cover anybody's
recharging needs. Even with out the solar part, the battery is small enough to
Cary in a pocket or purse and still pull you out of a tight spot when you find
your iPhone a wee bit short.

This small of a battery is great for the iPhone. I doubt though it would be of
any use with an iPad but sense I don't own one I can't speak to that. Radio
Shack, big box stores and only God knows who else offers recharge solutions.
You can also read about new gadgets in iPhone Life magazine. They also have a
free app that is accessible. Our friend Todd Burnheart writes for them every
now and then and always has a peace well worth reading.

The only battery I have seen so far which has the wall plug that folds away
is the MyCharge Peak 6000. I assume maybe you mean by your statement about
using it as a power supply that you want something that charges your phone
while it is also plugged in and charging. I have to try on my Peak 6000 whether
it does that, I know for sure that this so-called through charging is not

Hi all and thanks for the help.
How can Solara be played without esper? I have already run out and had to
buy it twice. It seems to be required for buying food and for building some
 buildings.
I only started playing yesterday, but I am in level 11, and I have had to
buy esper for food, which is used for training up heroes and for fighting.
I wish I could use some of my gold for that and for other things, because I
 have lots of gold.

 God Bless,
 WREN

Then each phone is $30 per month. At 5 phones, the cost is then $270 per
month. Now let's add all the charges here and there which are mandatory. So,
let's say $300 per month. Now, take $300 and divide by 5. You get $60. So,
it's costing each person $60 per month to be on my plan. You take 10gb and
device that by 5 as well and you get 2gb. So, each person paying $60 per
month gets unlimited texts, unlimited minutes, and 2gb average. The nice
thing is that since it's 10gb total, if a person only uses 1gb, then that
leaves an extra gb in case someone else has a heavier month. So, yeah, $270
is expensive, but when you break it down, it's still less than paying one out
 on your own.

Re: voicedream and Ivona voices

2013-08-11 Thread Mary Otten
I had occasion to exchange correspondence with Ivona tech support recently,
because I bought the Russian voice for Windows and had an installation issue. I
sure wish that voice was available for my Mac, but that's another subject. I
asked the guy about Ivona voices for IOS and, not surprisingly, he said it
doesn't exist as of now, a fact I already knew. And he made no comment on the
question of future plans, which I suppose isn't too surprising. That Kendra
English voice and the new Russian one are really, really good IMHO.

Subject: Next iPhone to Launch on September 10

Apple will unveil the latest iPhone model on Tuesday, September 10, according
to a new report from the always reliable AllThingsD. The report confirms only
the launch date, but seems to suggest that Apple may actually release two
distinct iPhone models; the expected update to the iPhone 5 (iPhone 5S?), and
possibly a lower-cost color iPhone model that has floated about in rumors for
 quite some time.

The new upper end iPhone model is expected to resemble the existing iPhone 5
in appearance, and include improvements to the camera and processor. There is
also a rumored possibility that a fingerprint sensor will be included in the
device as a means of added security or password entry. Additional features
are possible, though rumors remain fairly sparse.

A lower cost iPhone model has long been rumored. Current speculation suggests
such a device would basically have the same internal components as an iPhone
5, but have a colorful outer enclosure made of plastic, replacing the
aluminum and glass casing that surrounds the existing iPhone 5 models.
Rumored colors include white, and bright shades of red, yellow, green, and
blue (below rendering courtesy of MacRumors).

AllThingsD also mentions that OS X Mavericks will be released “in the coming
weeks”, suggesting that the updated Mac operating system may arrive before
the new iPhone and iOS 7. Of course, a new iPhone launch also suggests that
iOS 7 is due just around the corner as well, so whenever the iPhone starts
shipping will likely be the same date that iOS 7 is released to consumers for
supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models.

As usual, treat any speculated features or abilities as a rumor until Apple
 makes an official announcement.

I have a Concept II Rowing Machine which I work out on every day. I have

Office2 Plus question

2013-08-11 Thread Alan Lemly
I've installed this app on my iPhone 5 as a result of some recent traffic
discussing it. The 2 is actually a superscript in the name but I was able to
find the app when searching with Firefox on my computer using the spelling
in the above subject.

My question about this app concerns something I thought I read in one of the
earlier posts. I thought someone said there was an in app upgrade that would
allow you to save files with the app. I've been unable to find any such
upgrade so I'm wondering if I'm confusing this with another office app. I do
note some ads at the top of the main screen and even though they aren't bad,
I wouldn't mind paying a couple of dollars to get rid of them.

If anyone knows of an upgrade to this app to either enhance its features or
to get rid of the ads, I'd love to hear about how to do it. Thanks.

Hi, if you have friends and/or family and you trust them, the mobile share is
the way to go. For example, I have 5 phones on my plan and I have the 10 gb per
month plan. The plan breaks down to 120 per month for the data alone. Then each
phone is $30 per month. At 5 phones, the cost is then $270 per month. Now let's
add all the charges here and there which are mandatory. So, let's say $300 per
month. Now, take $300 and divide by 5. You get $60. So, it's costing each
person $60 per month to be on my plan. You take 10gb and device that by 5 as
well and you get 2gb. So, each person paying $60 per month gets unlimited
texts, unlimited minutes, and 2gb average. The nice thing is that since it's
10gb total, if a person only uses 1gb, then that leaves an extra gb in case
someone else has a heavier month. So, yeah, $270 is expensive, but when you
break it down, it's still less than paying one out on your own.

RE: how do I play solara the game.

2013-08-11 Thread Tess
This link was sent in an earlier email. How much it helps can be debated.
Basically, you flip left and right to pick a selection you want to do.
Rather it be quest, or arena to fight other real life players if your own
level is level 11 or higher, or building or extending your castle and it's
shops. This also depends on if you have enough cash and or esper points.
If you have ever played a RPG game, this can be somewhat like that. You have
characters that you will advance in levels by quests, you will train your
characters with food and gold every other level food and gold change off.
The amount of food and or gold raises each level as you go along.
Only way you can really learn about the game is just jump in and start
playing.
Now for the link that was submitted to the list. It didn't help me much, but
well, to each his or her own.
http://www.gamezebo.com/games/solara/walkthrough-cheats-strategy-guide
Oh, and it doesn't give cheats, that can be false advertising in a way lol.

Alerts during a call?

2013-08-11 Thread Tessa
Hi
How do I stop an alert from speaking when I'm taking a phone call. For
example when one of my facebook friends posts something the phone lets me
know but it often happens when I'm in a call and I can't seem to turn it off
without turning off the alert feature, unless I'm missing something which is
entirely possible. I know when my clock chimes hitting the volume button
stops the sound, but it doesn't do much for facebook and alerts like that.
Any suggestions.

Solara Arena

2013-08-11 Thread Tess
Wow,

If you are participating in the last hours of the tournament, then you know
that it has gotten heated. Until the last couple of hours have I seen the
large hitters come in and take over the top 5 spots.

I am holding on to number 5 by the skin of my teeth, and I am not even
highly leveled.

This is a blast. Ran out of food, debating to buy more to try and hold on a
bit longer.

As someone mentioned a while ago, it is truly how you position your men, and
level takes part. I have gotten lucky and defeated a few castles 4 levels
above me just how I used my men.

I am curious of who is participated in the arena, I am wondering if I have
battled you yet.

Re: Unable to Open Feed in Lire 1.9.3

2013-08-11 Thread Craig Werner
Don, I'm glad you're not seeing this behavior. Nevertheless, I'd
appreciate it if users would try to replicate this possible bug. Here
are the steps.

1. Open Lire 1.9.32 or 1.9.33. Make sure there are at least six
feeds in the feeds list.

2. Activate the Feeds option. Do not choose the All Articles option.

3. Try to activate the last feed in the list, the one closest to the
refresh button. I cannot open it using VoiceOver. I have tried
double-tapping, left flicking, and right flicking.

Re: Once again, on the hutn for a cross platform rss reader

2013-08-11 Thread Craig Werner
Geoff, would you please tell us why you prefer BazQux over FeedHQ? I
have just started using BazQux, and I do find it quite fast; but I
have gotten good support from FeedHQ, and although I don't use its Web
interface often, it's a lot more accessible for me than BazQux's Web
interface. Thank you.

It is not free but seems very good compared to theOldreader and feedHQ.

The browser interface is not inaccessible but not perfect either. Still,
that's not the main method I use to access things so it doesn't worry me
 too

I will keep Lire and may still
use it. But for what I want, Feeddler is really the best thing for me
 right

I am trying inoreader now, and it seems to be a lot faster and more
 reliable
when using it with Feeddler. The web interface seems usable with Orca and
Firefox and Chrome with ChromeVox, but I'm still evaluating it.

I may in fact give FeedHQ a spin. It looks like the Old reader is
staying public after all, but with all the down time and other buggy

alternative is something I'll look into regardless.

Unlocking a Sprint 4S

2013-08-11 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

So I’m due for an upgrade on the first of next month. I plan on upgrading to
the new iPhone when it comes out, but will be keeping my 4S and will be
giving it to my wife who doesn’t really care for her Android device and
wants to switch platforms. She and I are on a larger family plan and though
she was due for an upgrade a few months back, we figured this would be the
better way to go since the 4S is still a pretty snazzy phone and she’s
really not that much of a cell phone user. She’s interested in some of the
new super basic plans that are coming out even though she can remain on the
Sprint plan. Naturally Sprint is hemming and hawing about how unlocking
isn’t possible and Apple has rules, blah, blah, but even if carrier
unlocking isn’t possible (which I don’t believe) we should at least be able
to sim unlock the phone. We both travel internationally for work and family
and as the 4S is both a CDMA and GSm device, this is one of the reasons we
want to hang on to it.

I’ve read mixed information and experiences on forums and sites and such
having to do with GPP unlocking packages or turbo sims, but really, she nor
I am interested in jail breaking the phone for some of the offered
solutions.

My question is if others on here have indeed been able to unlock their 4S
from Sprint to either use with another CDMA carrier or even with one of the
GSM providers? If so, and again, not including a jailbreak method how did
they do it? Is it really just a question of being persistent with Sprint?
I’m not really pushing it now, but figured I’d get a better idea before I
get my new device and have this 4S free. I actually took it in since one of
the volume buttons jammed on me and I have insurance on the phone. The
Sprint rep at first wanted to charge me the $200.00 deductible to replace
it, but I said no way to that. A jammed volume button doesn’t need a full
phone replacement especially when I’m going to get a brand new phone next
month and since I’ve got insurance on it anyway. He supposedly went in the
back to talk to his supervisor (whatever…) and said that they’d this one
time swap out the phone for free. So I guess if anything, I’ll have a
practically new or at least refurbished new phone for a few weeks that we
can sell if unlocking is too much of a hassle and turn around and buy a 16gb
iPhone 5 or something with the same money and go with any carrier at that
point.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

RE: Alerts during a call?

2013-08-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Tessa, Donna, Jodie, Andy and others,

This is one of the most annoying characteristics of Voiceover and I hope
that all of you who dislike this as much as me write to
accessibil...@apple.com to request that in some future update Voiceover is
just silenced when a call is active. Andy's suggestion to turn off push
notifications to me is something I should not have to do, I have an iPhone
and use apps which have push notifications because that is what I want and
having to turn off all push notifications just so my phone calls aren't
interrupted is equivalent to saying you have to turn off WiFi, Bluetooth,
Push email and location services just so I can get better battery life. I
don't need a fancy smartphone if I have to disable half its features to stop
it from doing one annoying thing.

This discussion has come up before and I know some people have argued in
favour of all of this chatter happening although I really don't know why
somebody would want their phone to start reading a text message, an email or
a news headline while one is on a phone call. When this happens to me I
sometimes have to ask the other party to hold on for a moment until
Voiceover shuts up or I can shut it up because I can't hear them any more.
The iPhone is after all also a cell phone and while some people may use it
more for other stuff than actual calling, for me it is my only personal line
and I also use it for my business so I do receive and make a lot of calls
and I really hope that maybe in iOS 7 Apple has done something about this.
In my opinion Voiceover should just be quiet during a call, but I guess it
would be OK if at least there was a setting where one could enable this and
that way those who like to hear all of this stuff while they are on the
phone can continue to do so. The same goes for Voiceover constantly
announcing the call duration, also annoying and completely unnecessary, if I
want to check how long I have been on the phone I can easily touch the
screen and check and I don't have to hear it every 20 or 30 seconds. I
understand that I can turn speech off with a 3-finger double tap and I
sometimes do that, but it's a major pain in the winter when my iPhone is in
my pocket or belt clip under a heavy coat and I am wearing gloves.

Regards,

notifications to me is something I should not have to do, I have an iPhone
and use apps which have push notifications because that is what I want and
having to turn off all push notifications just so my phone calls aren't
interrupted is equivalent to saying you have to turn off WiFi, Bluetooth,
Push email and location services just so I can get better battery life. I
don't need a fancy smartphone if I have to disable half its features to stop
it from doing one annoying thing.

RE: Unlocking a Sprint 4S

2013-08-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just in case you don’t get any replies here you might want to contact Rob
from the Today in iOS podcast. Just outline the basic facts, i.e. that you
have a 4S from Sprint, that you want to upgrade to the new iPhone and give
this one to your wife and ask him to put the question about unlocking a CDMA
phone to the audience. Then make sure you listen to the Podcast to see if he
reads or plays your question and check back a week later to see if somebody
called in with any suggestions.

Before I went to Thailand this spring I asked him to check with the Today in
iOS audience about suggestions for getting a SIM and prepaid plan there and
I was amazed by how many people called in or send an email. I received such
good advice and reviews of the carriers in Thailand that it was super easy
when I got there.

The Viphone community is pretty big now and there are some very experienced
people on here, but my guess is that the Today in iOS audience counts in the
tens of thousands from all over the world and I find the Podcast super
informative. If you want to write to him or send a recorded voice message ,
you can do so by emailing t...@gmail.com or you can call 206-MoonDog
(666-6364) and leave a voice mail with your question.

Subject: Unlocking a Sprint 4S

HiChuck,

Of course I want Voiceover to announce who is calling, but as soon as I
answer the call I'd like it to shut up. Turning off speech is a work-around
and it's OK as far as it goes, but as I said, if I am out and about I either
have my Bluetooth earpieceor the Apple Earpods hanging around my neck and I
answer calls that way without ever touching the phone and if it's tucked
away then having to turn off speech is not convenient. There are of course
also those cases where I need speech to be on because maybe I need to look
up a phone number while I am on a call or check something else. As I said, I
am fully aware of the work-arounds, but just because I found an often
inconvenient fix for a problem doesn't mean it's a solution and that the
problem should not be addressed.
I also can say for sure that from the responses I read in previous
discussions there are way more people who like Tess, Donna, myself and
others feel this is an annoying issue as opposed to the few who said they
like it the way it is. I think it's OK to hear whatever sound an incoming
email, text or push notification makes and if I am really so desperate to
know while I am still talking on the phone who emailed or texted me, then I
can open mail, messages or the notification centre and check. Otherwise I
can concentrate on who I am talking to and once I am done I can check what
happened while I was on the phone.

Sieghard
