I need help with mail

2014-02-11 Thread Jerry Mader
Hello.

I use Ultra Host for my provider for my website.

I want to be able to receive mail from my site on my phone.

How would I go about doing so?

I've tried to set up the email the same way I did my outlook by entering
maderradio.net in my host and smtp, but that won't work, then I tried to
use mail.maderradio.net and finally pop.maderradio.net and
smtp.maderradio.net, no luck.

Keeps on saying that my password is invalid, but it can't be, that's the
same password I've logged in with using my outlook account, otherwise this
message wouldn't of gotten to you smile So I'm confused on what to do.

Any help would greatly be appreciated very much.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, you would be using cellular data anyway. But if you disable WI-FI
you'll be using cellular data all the time (when deploying SIRI).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't SIRI actually send the audio input to
voice recognition servers?

That being the case; turning off WI-FI will cause any additional SIRI
commands to be sent over the mobile network and could result in additional
network access charges. Point is, if you plan on using SIRI to any extent
you probably do not want to disable WI-FI.

The two biggest drains on the iPhone are the Bluetooth radio and WI_FI..
It's easy to tell Siri, turn bluetooth off and she'll say I turned
Bluetooth

off. Do the same with WI_FI. Those are the two biggest battery drains.
So

if you have no ear peace connected to Bluetooth and your away from your

   Hi

Of course it's true that some apps use more power than others, but if a
phone is draining, then the most obvious explanation is that one app or
another is using the power and it's just an easy thing to eliminate.

In Mavericks, the battery menu shows you which apps are using significant
amounts of power. If there is a similar thing in IOS7, I haven't found it
yet.

Reducing screen brightness is a really good one too. I always thought it
counter-intuitive that the screen curtain didn't reduce power use, but
them's the breaks.

I have absolutely no authority to back this up, but I am convinced I
noticed a reduction in power usage on my 5s after I locked the screen
orientation.

I can't access the UltraHost knowledge base, since I don't use their
service or have a log in for them, but using Google, it looks like
http://service.ultrahost.us/knowledgebase.php?action=displaycatcatid=8
has articles on setting up email on your iPhone as well as problems
verifying your server during setup. I'd suggest going there to see if
you can find an article that might shed some light on the problems

Hello, everyone.

I have just posted to AppleVis a guide to five text editors: Droptext,
PlainText 2, Notesy for Dropbox, Nebulous Notes, and Simplenote. I
won't post it here since it is over 3,500 words. You can find it at

I am still working on a post that discusses the advantages and

Write 2 is another good one which allows you to edit files either on

I am looking for a text editor that is VoiceOver-compatible and syncs

will probably buy the no-ads version of Nebulous Notes if I can't find

Notes Lite. It has an uncluttered interface, a user's manual,
extensive help, VoiceOver-labeled buttons, and the ability to sync
with any textfile the user has placed on Dropbox. I have heard good

well these editors work with VoiceOver. All help is appreciated.

RE: Google Maps; was: Apple Maps Question.

2014-02-11 Thread Richard Turner
You might very well get similar results with an external GPS and the Touch
if Google saves the entire route and as you say, you don't stray off route.

My first iPod was the 3rd generation and I bought a Dual Electronics GPS
receiver and battery pack. I was able to use Navigon with that set up quite
effectively since Navigon stores the maps on your device.

That was before Google Maps was available or at least before it was as good
as it is now.

It would certainly be worth a try if anyone has that combination.

Speaking of spoken turn by turn directions, I loaded a route into my phone
the other day using Google Maps. I was at home and on Wi-Fi when I did it.
I forgot that cellular data was turned off and began my 30 minute trip. I
had spoken turn by turn directions for the entire trip. I discovered that
data was off when I went to create a new route to another destination and
was told to turn data on.

I already knew that Google loaded a map of the requested route into the
device but didn't think that the audio for that trip would be loaded. It
was a very pleasant surprise indeed. I'm also guessing that this would work
as long as you don't go too far off of the planned route.

Now, this has me curious. If I had an iPod touch with an external gps
receiver, would I have the same result? Someone might try it some time to
find out.

Re: ap to read braille(brf) formatted files/books?

2014-02-11 Thread Wayne Merritt
Dan,
Have you looked at Voice Dream Reader or Access Note? Both are iOS
apps, Voice dream Reader costs $10, and AccessNote costs $20. I don't
know if you can open BRF files in Voice Dream, but I'm pretty sure you
can in AccessNote. You can get a trial of Voice Dream from the app

Good luck,

iTunes radio and resetting stations to default

2014-02-11 Thread Tim Emmons
Hi guys, just curious. How does one if there is a way, delete likes and such
from the iTunes Radio stations, and reset history to basically start from
scratch. I know Pandora has their seed sand such hidden and hard to get too,
but I hear iTunes radio is easier to do that with but not sure how to do that.
I'm finding some really finding a few things that are at least catching my
attention if not winning me over completely. I'm curious to know what everybody
else's thoughts are on iTunes radio, just in general. I have a lot to keep me
entertained during the day while I work, but I've always been curious about
everybody's thoughts as to Tunes Radio. It is accessible but I could go on for
hours about pros and cons of all of them, lol. Thanks and take care y'all. Hope
everybody is doing well.

Another way to think of it is that you want to flick a piece of dust off the
screen.

Your finger should be moving before it contacts the screen, otherwise VO
thinks you are touching.

Think of it as a glancing blow, or that your finger is a golf club and you
are trying to hit a golf ball sitting on the screen but only barely making
contact with the screen-no divots please, grin.

Also, keep the flick in as close to the same spot on the screen. Do not
flick near the top and as you flick move your finger down the screen so that
by the time you have done your fifth or sixth flick you are near the bottom.

Try to stay in one area. The beauty of the flick or swipe gesture is that
whatever you hear VoiceOver say after you have flicked, is where the
VoiceOver cursor is and so a quick double-tap anywhere on the screen will
activate that item.

Chess-wise 3 available in App Store

2014-02-11 Thread Jeffrey Turner
Hello List Members,

A new upgraded version of Chess-wise can be found by searching for
Chess-wise 3. This week, the in-app purchase price is only $1.99. Next week
it goes up to $3.99.

This upgrade fixes some issues that appeared when IOS 7 came out, and
provides other enhancements the developer believes justifies the charge.

I like the ability this app has for setting up positions on the board and
playing from those positions. Although Shredder has this ability, it doesn't
work with VoiceOver, so that feature's no good to us.

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Re: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-11 Thread Alex Hall
Do you mean the swipe a non-Voiceover user would perform, such as moving
through home screens or displayed pages on a webpage? If so, you use three
fingers, moving them opposite of the way you want to go. To move from home
screen 1 to home screen 2, you want to move right, so you swipe three fingers
left. I think of it as sliding the current display out of the way, and in so
doing, pulling the new display into place. That helps make it easy to remember
that the movement is opposite of what you might at first want to do.

don't find a purchase option.

Can you please help me figure this out?

Near the top of the Why Go Pro screen is a button called $1.99. Double-tap it

SIRI Not Completing Phone Calls

2014-02-11 Thread Bill Gallik
I'm not sure what's happening here, but when I ask SIRI to call someone it
often doesn't take. I can open up my CONTACTS tab in the native Phone app,
select the person I want to call, open that entry and manually execute the
completed phone call. But for whatever reason, when I ask SIRI to call, for
instance, my Mom, it just says it's going to make that call but it never
completes.

I can say, Call Mom at home and it will list the correct telephone number
as the target, but the connection is not made.

I have a 32 GB iPhone 5 with iOS Version 7.0.4.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Re: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-11 Thread Richard Turner
I just opened the camera app.
The spot that defaults to photo mode, says adjustable.
When ever you find something that says adjustable, touch that item so it gains
focus, and do a one finger flick up or down to adjust the value.
If you turn the rotor at before flicking up or down, you will notice that you
have an option called adjust value
That is present whenever you have what amounts to a combo box.
The index in the music app is another example of that.

Your finger should be moving before it contacts the screen, otherwise VO

Think of it as a glancing blow, or that your finger is a golf club and you
are trying to hit a golf ball sitting on the screen but only barely making
contact with the screen—no divots please, grin.

2014-02-11 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
When I put my finger on the camera mode and swipe up/down with one finger, VO
usually just moves focus to the previous or next item. It almost seems like you
have to find the correct spot on the screen before swiping or something. I
cannot locate the rotor command you mentioned- is there a setting elsewhere
which enables this?

RE: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-11 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
No, can do that- but can't perform anything which VO recognizes as a swipe'
on the VO practice screen. And, still finding it nearly impossible to change
camera mode setting.

Do you mean the swipe a non-Voiceover user would perform, such as moving
through home screens or displayed pages on a webpage? If so, you use three
fingers, moving them opposite of the way you want to go. To move from home
screen 1 to home screen 2, you want to move right, so you swipe three
fingers left. I think of it as sliding the current display out of the way,
and in so doing, pulling the new display into place. That helps make it easy
to remember that the movement is opposite of what you might at first want to
do.

Math ml and graphing?

2014-02-11 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi all, I'm looking into educational uses for IPad and have been asked for two
items. One, math ml support. Ibooks 3 supports math ml generation but is that
a tool that public school students should use to do their math homework? Is
there something a bit more focused for small math projects such as grade school
work?

Two, a graphing calculator. I have found a list of accessible graphing
calculators. It's a bit of a struggle to read and I'm not really sure how to
go about testing them since I have no graphs to work on.

I would appreciate any help and advice. If you could CC me at
e...@erik-burggraaf.com that would be fantastic. I don't seem to be getting
mail from the list.

Re: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-11 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,
if you turn on voiceover help with a four finger double-tap, or go into
settings, general, voiceover, practice voiceover gestures, then do a one finger
flick up, what do you hear?
You should hear single finger flick up, moves to the previous item using the
rotor setting, or something to that effect.
You have to be very straight up and down with those flicks.
If you go off at an angle, they won't work.
Good luck,

LG HBS-730

2014-02-11 Thread May and Noah
I just received these in the mail today. There was a review of this model or
the model lower than this one posted a while back but I can't find it. As well
as someone asked if it works with IOS7 and it does.

Setting it up with the IPhone is nice and simple, turn it on and tell your
phone to pair with it and there you go. It does announce when it's on and the
battery level and that you are connected. When you turn it off it also tells
you. Darn thing freaked me out when I tested it on a call cause the headset
also vibrates.

I haven't figured out what 3 of the buttons do yet, but the ones on the same
side as the on off switch are:

top, volume up
middle, volume down
bottom, answers/hangs up call, button for activating siri

Voiceover is a little choppy, but I'm not sure if that's cause there's some
setting I don't know about in regards to the other 3 buttons on the other ear
piece side or if it's cause my phone is a 4S.

The range seems to be pretty good but will test it more when my bf wakes since
it's hard to test a call by yourself for good quality. However I had my phone
in the bedroom and I went down the hall and called myself and the headset
picked up the signal very well.

If anyone else happens to have this headset and can provide more help it would
be appreciated, thanks. For example, i have not found where the charger goes
when it's time to charge the thing.

Re: SIRI Not Completing Phone Calls

2014-02-11 Thread Lori Dent

Hi Bill and all,

I also have this same problem with Siri not wanting to complete a call. For
example I will ask siri to call mom's mobile and then a listing of a whole
bunch of stuff shows up on the screen and she wants me to listen.

So I try again and ask siri to call mom's mobile. And again the call wasn't
completed . Then siri asks me if I want her to remember that mom is my
mother. And I said yes.

So I tried asking siri to call mom's mobile again tonight and the call went
through with no problems. So Bill when for example if your going to call
your mom ask siri if she will remember that your mom is your mother and see
what happens the next time you call your mom. Take care.

I assume you mean the one-finger flick, to move from item to item? First,
don't make the move too big - a half inch to an inch is enough, I find.
Second, don't put your finger down and then flick or swipe, as that usually
leads to Voiceover thinking you are touching rather than trying to perform a
command. Instead, be making the flick gesture as your finger hits the
screen, so that the flick or swipe is interpreted as what you intended from
the start and there is less room for ambiguity. It sounds harder than it is,
I promise. Finally, make use of Voiceover's practice mode (double tap four
fingers, then do that again or do a two-finger scrub to exit this mode).

RE: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-11 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
I don't have any difficulty with flicks at all- it is whatever swipes are
which is the problem. The practice area doesn't recognize anything as a
'swipe' from what I can tell- which ain't much at the moment ;)

Hi,

if you turn on voiceover help with a four finger double-tap, or go into
settings, general, voiceover, practice voiceover gestures, then do a one finger
flick up, what do you hear?

You should hear single finger flick up, moves to the previous item using the
rotor setting, or something to that effect.

You have to be very straight up and down with those flicks.

If you go off at an angle, they won't work.

Good luck,

Do you mean the swipe a non-Voiceover user would perform, such as moving
through home screens or displayed pages on a webpage? If so, you use three
fingers, moving them opposite of the way you want to go. To move from home
screen 1 to home screen 2, you want to move right, so you swipe three fingers
left. I think of it as sliding the current display out of the way, and in so
doing, pulling the new display into place. That helps make it easy to remember
that the movement is opposite of what you might at first want to do.

Another way to think of it is that you want to flick a piece of dust off the
screen.

Your finger should be moving before it contacts the screen, otherwise VO thinks
you are touching.

Think of it as a glancing blow, or that your finger is a golf club and you are
trying to hit a golf ball sitting on the screen but only barely making contact
with the screen—no divots please, grin.

Also, keep the flick in as close to the same spot on the screen. Do not flick
near the top and as you flick move your finger down the screen so that by the
time you have done your fifth or sixth flick you are near the bottom.

Try to stay in one area. The beauty of the flick or swipe gesture is that
whatever you hear VoiceOver say after you have flicked, is where the VoiceOver
cursor is and so a quick double-tap anywhere on the screen will activate that
item.

HTH,

Richard

Re: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-11 Thread Richard Turner
Actually Alex, the area being discussed is a spot that requires a flick up or
down to adjust the value in the camera app to change the mode from photos, to
video, etc.
It is a up and down flick, which some people also call a swipe, but it is more
accurately described as a flick because you don't really want to drag your
finger on the screen, just hit it with a glancing blow, as it were.

First, don't make the move too big - a half inch to an inch is enough, I
find. Second, don't put your finger down and then flick or swipe, as
that usually leads to Voiceover thinking you are touching rather than
trying to perform a command. Instead, be making the flick gesture as
your finger hits the screen, so that the flick or swipe is interpreted
as what you intended from the start and there is less room for
ambiguity. It sounds harder than it is, I promise. Finally, make use of
Voiceover's practice mode (double tap four fingers, then do that again
or do a two-finger scrub to exit this mode).

2014-02-11 Thread Alex Hall
Ah, got it. I still wasn't sure if the camera app was one example of a larger
problem. Sorry for the confusion. To be clear, the camera app does *not*
respond to three-finger swipes - that's what I get for not testing before I
post.

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Re: ap to read braille(brf) formatted files/books?

2014-02-11 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Raul and all,

I just tried to open a BRF file in ILike2Read Pro, and it didn't even recognize
that the file was there. So apparently it doesn't work at all with braille
files.

Best,
Anna

Hello, I believe the app called ILike2Read will read brf files with voice

 Hope this helps.

Re: Managing home screen using iTunes?

2014-02-11 Thread Chris H
I don't think so. You can only manage the apps stored on the iPhone and
we are talking about third party not stock apps. Someone can correct me
on this though.

Re: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-11 Thread David Chittenden
Swipe and flick are the same gesture. Until recently, I've always referred to
it as flick. However, Apple now refers to swipe occasionally in their manual,
so I now use the words somewhat interchangeably. In other words, there is no
difference whatsoever between swipe and flick on Apple products.

 Hi,
if you turn on voiceover help with a four finger double-tap, or go into
settings, general, voiceover, practice voiceover gestures, then do a one
finger flick up, what do you hear?

That helps make it easy to
remember that the movement is opposite of what you might at first want to do.

Thank you both, but I do mean the swipe gesture not the flick. An example
is in the camera app where you can choose the mode- photo or video.

Another way to think of it is that you want to flick a piece of dust off the
 screen.
Your finger should be moving before it contacts the screen, otherwise VO
 thinks you are touching.
Think of it as a glancing blow, or that your finger is a golf club and you
are trying to hit a golf ball sitting on the screen but only barely making
contact with the screen—no divots please, grin.

 HTH,
 Richard

It sometimes works, sometimes not. Would appreciate descriptions of how
