RE: Transferring Music to iPhone
Hello Scott, Did you ever get this problem resolved or did you receive any replies from anyone on the list? Generally speaking, I use Windows Media player to rip albums but it may be a better idea to use iTunes to rip them. In the future, should you use iTunes, set your media importer to MP3. You can do this from within the Preferences area of iTunes. Generally speaking, whenever I import an album into iTunes, the first thing I do is to add all of its songs to a new Playlist. I find that Playlists are easier to control and manipulate. For example, I like all of the songs that I rip from an old album I've had for 20 years to be in the same play order as they were on the CD. Many times I find that I must manually rearrange songs on a playlist to get this to happen. It's a bit obsessive-compulsive, I know, but it matters to me. Mark From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Scott Duck Sent: Friday, July 18, 2014 3:30 PM To: iPhone List Subject: Transferring Music to iPhone Hi, I just ripped seven albums to MP3, using Windows Media Player. I put all of the MP3 files in a single folder and then imported that folder into my iTunes library. I then synced my phone with iTunes. Only 3 of the 7 albums showed up on my phone, even though they all show up In iTunes. I don't do this type of thing very often (I avoid iTunes when possible) so I have no idea what I may be doing wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. RE: BARD app
Remember, first you want to go into the clock app and timers and under alarm sounds scan to the bottom for shut down or whatever the verbiage is. To set the timer, just tell Seri Set timer for minutes As I mentioned, when I am hoping to fall asleep, I then tap play and then 3-finger double tap to turn off speech. This way when the timer ends and the device shuts down you don't get VoiceOver announcing that and waking you. RE: problem changing speed in blindfold racer
Hi Ioana, Unless the commands for speeding up and slowing down have changed recently, the command was tapping with your right thumb to speed up, and tapping with your left thumb or finger to slow down. So speeding up was on the right, nearer to the home button in landscape mode, and left side, nearer the earpiece to slow down. 1 tap is all that is needed to move up or down through the 3 speed levels. Re: BARD app
Hi Nicki, Go into your timer app under clock and flick all the way to the bottom to where it says when timer ends, stop playing. Once you are set there, you just have to say, set timer for 1 hour, and the book will stop playing when time is up. Someone here has mentioned to turn off VO, but it does not announce when the timer is stopping or anything like that on mine. I thought that was something that only happens on the BARD players. I do have do not disturb on at night though. That could be the difference. I would be interested to know if others have to turn VO off in order to not here when the phone timer is stopping. mini bluetooth keyboard
Is anyone on the list using a mini bluetooth keyboard? I purchased today a Zag mini iPad case with built-in bluetooth keyboard. I returned it because the control and option keys were on opposite sides of the keyboard. I exchanged it for a logitec. Well, low and behold, the control and option keys were again on opposite sides of the keyboard. Is this standard for the mini keyboards? It makes using VO keys quite difficult. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: TiVo app question
Yeah, might be the same with TWC, but I probably need to establish whether or not it is that Polaroid TV's only handle analog SAP and not on the digital side because I heard that with regular cable at times, the TV will take a digital signal if it isn't encrypted, and I can't tell which it is using on my local channels. If I wasn't on the 8th floor and had a patio to put a DirecTV dish on, I would probably go that route and be done with it because I know it works to get SAP at my parents' place. - Original Message - From: Brian Fischler To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2014 12:48 PM Subject: Re: TiVo app question Just wanted to say thanks for your thoughts, guess I will have to threaten Verizon Fios about filing a complaint with the FCC as that is what I was told is the only thing that gets them off their butt. There could be a couple issues there in that the TV probably scanned in the unencrypted digital channels that are available, and the Polaroid manuals are vague on whether that feature does anything when on a digital channel. The reason I couldn't just have someone turn it on and leave it is because of channel 11. During their programming that doesn't come from Fox, they play a continuous loop on the SAP describing the feature and to return to main audio to hear the programming. If you do have to do that from the remote, is it fairly easy to toggle that setting? No you do not need the stream to start shows playing on your TV by the app. It's fantastic as I use the app for everything. Re: Controling a DVR with Slingbox?
I think it's a graphical remote, and it just pops up the menus on the TV, and you gouch the arrow up and down controls to operate it, so I highly doubt it would be usable for more than switching channels. Back when, I thought about getting one, just so I could stream the news when I was in a town where I don't care for how they do their news, so I could hear my favorite local station instead. Hi Kimber, What are you trying to do with the app? Do you just want flight tracking/notifications or are you hoping to use the app for checking in and getting an electronic boarding pass? If it's the former then the app Flight Tracker will do nicely and it's very accessible. If it's the latter then of course you probably need the app from the airlines and unfortunately I can't help you with that as I am in Canada and mostly fly Air Canada which does have a fully accessible app. I suggest youtry and contact support for the app which of course may not help for this flight, but at least it makes them aware of the issue. RE: Is Siri not availible on an ipad 2?
Hi Donna, I guess you are underestimating your iPad because if you have SIRI then you have an iPad Third Generation not an iPad 2. I bought an iPad 2 for my Mom a few years ago and it definitely does not have SIRI. Here is part of a support article about SIRI which includes supported devices: What is Siri? Siri is the intelligent personal assistant that helps you get things done just by asking. It allows you to use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. But Siri isn't like traditional voice-recognition software that requires you to remember keywords and speak specific commands. Siri understands your natural speech, and it asks you questions if it needs more information to complete a task. Siri is available on these devices: iPhone 4S or later â—¾iPad 3rd generation or later â—¾iPad mini â—¾iPod touch (5th generation) Link to the article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4992 Regards, Sieghard From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Donna Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2014 1:19 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Is Siri not availible on an ipad 2? RE: New Question
Hi Allen, A Quick Google search for How to turn off Amber Alerts on the iPhone yielded many articles which all basically describe that you do this in Notifications which is where one would expect to find this. Below one such article: How to Turn Off AMBER Alerts on Your iPhone By Lisa Eadicicco, LAPTOP Staff Writer | Jul 17, 2013 12:32 PM EDT Like many smartphone owners in the New York area, I abruptly awoke in sheer panic last night around 4 am as a jarring AMBER Alert screeched menacingly from my iPhone. The alarm, which sounded boisterously with the familiar tone of government-issued flash flood warnings, was sent to inform New Yorkers that 7-month old Mario Danner had been kidnapped by his 25-year-old biological mother. While the alert was sent with helpful intentions, it resulted in many groggy New Yorkers awaking with a mix of confusion, panic and terror. For those looking to avoid such interruptions in the future, follow these quick steps to disable AMBER Alerts on your iPhone. 1. Press the Settings option on your Home screen 2. RE: Having trouble with the us air ways app
Hi Kimber, I find that electronic boarding passes are only useful if you travel with carry-on aggage only. If you have to check in a bag or suitcase you have to go to the counter anyways to get your bag processed and tagged and then you might as well get a printed boarding pass. I fly at least 4 or 5 times in Canada and usually once a year in November to Las Vegas to a trade show and since my wife is Filipina and still in the Philippines waiting for her immigration to Canada I am just about to go on my third trip there this year and I find electronic boarding passes most useful for my domestic flights when I usually don't have any check-in luggage. If I can check in and get my boarding pass (the Air Canada app let's me save it straight to the Passbook app where I can show it in the lock screen) I can show up as little as 10 or 15 minutes before the regular boarding time because I can walk straight through security and go to my gate. Of course this works only at airports like Vancouver which is agood size airport but where I know I can get through security in 5 or 10 minutes for flights inside Canada. Re: Listening or watching programmes on BBC iplayer with screen locked
All programs that have video do it. The weird thing I get with the Time Warner one is that when I plug the phone into my speaker dock, it tells me that the device and program don't support HDMI, but an audio only speaker dock wouldn't have HDMI to begin with. Maybe there's a plug on the back I don't know about that I need one of those dummy adapters for they use on mac minis when they run them as servers. - Original Message - From: Flor Lynch florl...@iol.ie To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2014 6:52 PM Subject: Re: Listening or watching programmes on BBC iplayer with screen locked because it's video (or has video components), the programme you're watching on iPlayer stops when the screen is locked. Re: Free Book for Users of iBooks/Mastering the Macintosh with Voiceover
Thank you from me as well for this book recommendation. I will be getting a Mac eventually, though it is on the long range plan since they are a bit expensive. This book will ehlp with my transition though. By the time I get one, a newer model or two will probably have come out. This will at least give me a foundation to start from.
