It doesn't seem to be accessible. The help file says to tap on the
playlist then slide to the left or right and the create box will
appear or some such. I've tried several times and it never works for
me. No big deal though. I still love this app. Moosejaw Creek is my
favorite track so far.

Kimber, I think playlists in NatureSpace are a way to group tracks together,

 Hi,

Two-finger double-tap works for me when stopping a track.

I also wanted to mention that if you like thunderstorms, NatureSpace has a
second app called Thundergod that includes several great recordings. If
you have the main NatureSpace app and you buy Thundergod, you get access
to all the Thundergod thunderstorm recordings in NatureSpace. You can then
delete Thundergod if you like, and still hear all the tracks from within
NatureSpace. So it's a cheaper way to get this collection of tracks then
 buying them within NatureSpace.

 Best,
 Anna

that you can explore, broken down by category. When you go into the
Naturespace Store within the app, you'll see some categories, and then an
option labeled complete catalog. The only things I wish they would do is
put headings for the different categories in the complete catalog, and add
a search feature to the in-app store. As of right now, the categories in
the complete catalog start with just a word, like morning or evening or
rain. I wish these words would be made into headings, so you could easily
move between categories using the headings option in the rotor. Also, if
someone recommends a track to you, the only way that you can make sure you
find it is to go into the complete catalog and patiently search for it
among the different categories. I plan to suggest these features to the
app developer. Other than these small issues, this app is absolutely
 awesome!

By the way, you probably should look through the complete catalog, as the
categories on the main in-app store screen don't list everything in that
 specific category.

Some tracks you might want to try:
 Riverknot (Rivers category)
 Life After Life (afternoons category)
 Pastureland (complete catalog, Afternoons category)
Back Home (complete catalog, Rain category)
 Moosejaw Creek (Afternoons category)
 The Cloud Engine (afternoons category)
 Mare Tranquillitatis
 The Secrets of Sunlight
 The Wolves (evenings category)
 The Ghost (Evenings category)

Knowing where the user is in a file is obviously important, and that's

 Tip of the Day:

How to Care for Your iPhone or iPad Battery

Apple makes a distinction between battery life and
battery lifespan. There are things you can do to make sure your battery has
enough juice to last throughout the day. But Apple and others also give advice
on how you can avoid damaging your battery so that it has a long lifespan.
Every battery will degrade in performance over time, but following these tips
will help you avoid damaging your battery.

• Avoid temperature extremes, especially heat — Your
battery is designed to work the best between the temperatures of 62° to 72° F
(16–22 C). If you expose your device to temperatures higher than 95°, you can
cause damage to your battery, such that it won't last as long between charges.

• Avoid leaving your battery in a case when charging —
Some cases can retain heat and cause your iPhone or iPad to overheat during
charging. To be safe, it's best to remove it from the case.

• If storing your device for a long period, store it at
half charge — If you aren't going to be using your iPhone or iPad for a period
of weeks or months, store it at 50 percent. If you store it when it's empty,
you can cause damage such that it will no longer charge. If you store it at 100
percent, this could decrease its daily capacity. If you're storing it for a
very long period, bring the charge back up to 50 percent after six months.

• Power down your device before storing it — In
addition to storing it at 50 percent, power down your device before storing it.

• Store your device at a temperature less than 90° —
Since heat can cause damage, it's important to ensure your device isn't exposed
to high temperatures during long-term storage. Also, the environment should be
moisture-free.

• Always use the latest version of iOS — Each update
typically brings improvements in battery efficiency. And the more efficient
your battery, the less it's used. And the less it's used, the longer its
lifespan.

• Avoid completely draining your battery — While Apple
doesn't mention this, experts on lithium-ion batteries say that it's good to
avoid completely draining your battery or regularly running it until it's low.

• Charge your battery regularly — Experts say it's best
to keep it charged. You don't need to worry about over-charging it, because the
charger is intelligent enough to recognize when the battery is full.

Re: Cursor Tracking with AccessNote and Voice Dream Writer

2015-03-24 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Craig,

Voice Dream Writer includes some great tools for moving the cursor, including
the ability to move by sentence and paragraph. It has the ability to take you
to misspelled words so you can fix them, it has a great search, and it lets you
turn your document into an outline that you can move through in different ways.
It's really a great writing app.

Best,
Anna

Re: Cursor Tracking with AccessNote and Voice Dream Writer

2015-03-24 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, AccessNote is now free, rather than the $19.99 it was when I bought it.
But, Writer is worth more than the $9.99 it costs. It is way better for writing
and editing what you have written.
No, you do not have to use an external keyboard, though I think it makes
extensive writing easier.
You can use the onscreen keyboard or dictation.
Enjoy,

TIP: Light and Easy Does It

2015-03-24 Thread M. Taylor
Hi All,

The following is a short tip I wrote and published to the Candle Shore BLOG
so thought I would share it here.

Mark

TIP: Light and Easy Does It

Hello Everyone,

In the olden-days, back when Windows Mobile 6.1 was the latest and greatest
mobile OS on the planet, as it ran flawlessly on my beloved Samsung
Blackjack 2, during the hustle and bustle of daily life, I would sometimes,
very rarely mind you, find myself taking out my frustrations on my wireless
device, said device being referred to these days as a Feature Phone, by, let
us say, pressing the keys a little more enthusiastically than normal
(smile).

Being the calm, cool, and collective person that I have become since then,
believe it or not, as hard as it may be to fathom, I still find that, oh so
rarely you understand, there are occasions when my enthusiasm, the result of
unexpected or unwanted daily events, attempts to rear its ugly head as I
interact with my now beloved iPhone 6 Plus.

Such attempts always fail as I have discovered that, on my iPhone 6 Plus,
especially when VoiceOver, Apple's software screen reading solution for the
blind and low vision, is enabled, the touch-screen is much more responsive
when I use a lighter press/tap/swipe then a heavier one.

So, if you find that your touch-screen device is not as responsive as it
once was or not as reactive as it should be, after making sure its surface
is clean, try using a soft smooth hand rather than a hard rough heavier one.

Remember, light and easy does it.

Mark

RE: Relaxation App For Help Getting To Sleep?

2015-03-24 Thread Neal Ewers
OK, I don’t think previews can be deleted with VoiceOver. My wife had to hold
them and drag them to the trash can. I may write them and ask if there is
something that can be done about this and about playlists.

Hi Anna and list. Anna, thanks for the information about these apps. As many of
you know, I record a lot of nature sounds. I have to say that these sounds are

I do have one question. I can’t seem to delete the previews of sounds I have

Hi,

Two-finger double-tap works for me when stopping a track.

I also wanted to mention that if you like thunderstorms, NatureSpace has a
second app called Thundergod that includes several great recordings. If you
have the main NatureSpace app and you buy Thundergod, you get access to all the
Thundergod thunderstorm recordings in NatureSpace. You can then delete
Thundergod if you like, and still hear all the tracks from within NatureSpace.
So it’s a cheaper way to get this collection of tracks then buying them within
NatureSpace.

By the way, you probably should look through the complete catalog, as the

Back Home (complete catalog, Rain category)

Moosejaw Creek (Afternoons category)

The Cloud Engine (afternoons category)

Re: How to Care for Your iPhone or iPad Battery

2015-03-24 Thread Christopher Chaltain
The circuitry in the iPhone battery won't let the battery charge go all
the way to zero, and it'll start trickle charging before the battery is
completely charged, so you don't have to worry too much about running
the battery all the way down or leaving it plugged in and charging.

Lithium ion batteries do like shallow charges though,so when it's
convenient, it's best to let it run down to something like 50% and then
charge it back up to 80%. This is for optimal use though. IMHO, the best
thing to do is to use your LI battery. Use it and then charge it when an
outlet is convenient. Your iPhone and it's battery is meant to serve you
and not the other way around.

Tip of the Day:

How to Care for Your iPhone or iPad Battery

Apple makes a distinction between battery life and battery lifespan.
There are things you can do to make sure your battery has enough juice
to last throughout the day. But Apple and others also give advice on how
you can avoid damaging your battery so that it has a long lifespan.
Every battery will degrade in performance over time, but following these
tips will help you avoid damaging your battery.

• Avoid temperature extremes, especially heat — Your battery is designed
to work the best between the temperatures of 62° to 72° F (16–22 C). If
you expose your device to temperatures higher than 95°, you can cause
damage to your battery, such that it won't last as long between charges.

• Avoid leaving your battery in a case when charging — Some cases can
retain heat and cause your iPhone or iPad to overheat during charging.
To be safe, it's best to remove it from the case.

• If storing your device for a long period, store it at half charge — If
you aren't going to be using your iPhone or iPad for a period of weeks
or months, store it at 50 percent. If you store it when it's empty, you
can cause damage such that it will no longer charge. If you store it at
100 percent, this could decrease its daily capacity. If you're storing
it for a very long period, bring the charge back up to 50 percentafter
six months.

• Power down your device before storing it — In addition to storing it
at 50 percent, power down your device before storing it.

• Store your device at a temperature less than 90° — Since heat can
cause damage, it's important to ensure your device isn't exposed to high
temperatures during long-term storage. Also, the environment should be
moisture-free.

• Always use the latest version of iOS — Each update typically brings
improvements in battery efficiency. And the more efficient your battery,
the less it's used. And the less it's used, the longer its lifespan.

• Avoid completely draining your battery — While Apple doesn't mention
this, experts on lithium-ion batteries say that it's good to avoid
completely draining your battery

How to delete previews in NatureSpace

2015-03-24 Thread Neal Ewers
OK, it is possible after all. I tried to do what the help file said the
first time, but there is something I didn't know. You have to be quick about
this task. If you are playing a preview and you tap the info button in the
bottom left corner, You have to quickly tap in about the same place and you
will get a dialog opened that has a delete button. The screen changes rather
quickly after you tap the info button, so you can't wait very long to do the
second tap, but if you do it quick enough, it works. I think you have to be
quite close to the info button to make this work, but I have not played with
this much to find out other places you may be able to tap. But I have been
able to use this strategy to delete my previews.

I'd like to request that you include making your app fully accessible to
those of us who are visually impaired and depend on the VoiceOver built in
screen reader to use our iPhones. VoiceOver uses a unique set of gestures so
that the blind can audibly access all controls in am app provided it has
been properly coded with such access in mind.

A specific thing I seem unable to do with your app is to set up a playlist.
When I was playing with the app and its sample sounds, I was able to locate
a playlist button while using VoiceOver but I've been unable to do this
since purchasing the other sound packages. Their needs to be a separate
button that can be identified audibly and located somewhere on the bottom
line menu to give VoiceOver users access to this feature. I don't know what
the best way is to address this issue but I know we blind users would very
much appreciate your correcting this.

Another minor thing I noticed when accessing the sleep timer last night was
that the picker control for selecting hours and minutes does not identify
whether the selected button is hours or minutes. This is not a big deal
since hours always come first but it is an annoyance that would seem easily
corrected.

Thanks so much for listening and I know your blind users would very much
appreciate your addressing these accessibility issues.

Hi Alan. That’s good, because I did delete a couple of my previews, but it is
proving to be harder than I thought. I am glad they are working on this app.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your email and kind words. We are very close to releasing a
completely rebuilt version of the app. Thorough voice over integration was a
primary focus of the app rebuild. We think you’ll love it! We’re hoping to
release it within the next month. Please let us know what you think after
you’ve had a chance to use it.

I'm on an email list for visually impaired users of the iPhone and other

tried it and purchased your Thundergood and dream packages for $9.99 each. I
really love the sounds and the very high quality.

I'd like to request that you include making your app fully accessible to those
of us who are visually impaired and depend on the VoiceOver built in screen
reader to use our iPhones. VoiceOver uses a unique set of gestures so that the
blind can audibly access all controls in am app provided it has been properly
coded with such access in mind.

A specific thing I seem unable to do with your app is to set up a playlist.
When I was playing with the app and its sample sounds, I was able to locate a
playlist button while using VoiceOver but I've been unable to do this since
purchasing the other sound packages. Their needs to be a separate button that
can be identified audibly and located somewhere on the bottom line menu to give
VoiceOver users access to this feature. I don't know what the best way is to
address this issue but I know we blind users would very much appreciate your
correcting this.

Another minor thing I noticed when accessing the sleep timer last night was
that the picker control for selecting hours and minutes does not identify
whether the selected button is hours or minutes. This is not a big deal since
hours always come first but it is an annoyance that would seem easily
corrected.

Thanks so much for listening and I know your blind users would very much
appreciate your addressing these accessibility issues.

Re: Please, I need some more suggestions about wearing Iphone on the neck.

2015-03-24 Thread Mária Orovčíková

Hi Rick and all,
you said:
..I'll bet someone will come up with something that will provide a
holder that doesn't need to be attached to the phone or case permanently.

Well, honestly, I am not very optimistic about it.
As far as I know we have lightning connector since Iphone 5 came out
(please correct me if I am wrong) and there was not such a lanyard for
Iphone 5 or at least I was not successful to find it.

Please if anyone would have any idea of suitable option for me, let me know.
Thank you very much for advance.
With kind regards

Maria,

I honestly don't think you will find such a configuration because of the way
the lightning connecter is designed. The old 30 pin connecter actually used a
set of clips that attached the connecter to the bottom of the phone. One had to
squeeze the sides of the connecter to release it. Lightning connecters on the
other hand do not physically attach, they just slide in and out. This connecter
would require some type of holder to keep the device from simply slipping off
the lanyard. I'll bet someone will come up with something that will provide a
holder that doesn't need to be attached to the phone or case permanently. Hope
you can find what you are looking for.

Hello Rick and all,
thank you very much for very useful info.
well, I do not like the fact that the holder becomes part of the
particular case or the phone itself and it is not possible to remove it.
It makes me sad that the cheap lanyards I have mentioned in previous
e-mail are not available for iphones with lightning conector.
Although they are pretty cheap and maybe not of the best quality, they
are exactly what I need.
Thank you again for information, I believe it was helpful for other

I have an order in for the product you originally linked to. I spoke to the
person that makes them on the phone. It's true that the holder becomes part of
the case, but it is easily detached from the lanyard so you can still put the
phone in your pocket or something else. So, basically, whatever case you use
with the lanyard has to be dedicated to that particular configuration. You can
still take the phone out of the case if you want to use a different one but the
holder stays with that particular case. I personally don't mind this but others
might. I hope to have it within a few days.

Hi list,
I am very sorry for such a long e-mail, but I need your help, so please
read it to the end if you can.
I would like to ask you for some suggestions again.
I asked about iPhone Adjustable Lanyard (Neck Strap) the other day.
http://www.iphone-lanyard.com/Site/iPhone_Holder.html

As I did not get any feedback on this product, I suppose no one uses it.
After reading instructions on the seller's website a few times I think
the product is not exactly what I have been looking for.
They say:
...Be sure to give the adhesive this amount of time before using it.
The adhesive is so strong that it effectively creates a watertight seal
with a hard case. Never remove and then reuse an Adhesive Holder. It is
meant for just one application.
I use Otterbox deffender case with my Iphone 6. What if I need to remove
it for some reason, for example to clean the phone or if any otterbox
part would get damaged and need to be replaced, so that lanyard will be
useless and that's why I think it is not good for my needs.
When I got Iphone 4 I always wanted to wear it around my neck, so I
browsed Ebay and found this product:

Voice Dream Writer includes some great tools for moving the cursor, including
the ability to move by sentence and paragraph. It has the ability to take you

I also wanted to mention that if you like thunderstorms, NatureSpace has

Re: Relaxation App For Help Getting To Sleep?

visually by going back to your library of tracks and dragging the desired
ones onto the name of the created playlist. I have some vision but not
enough to successfully create and add any tracks to a playlist.

I wrote supp...@naturespace.com with this issue and urge others on this list

The sounds are really outstanding and there's no reason they shouldn't be

 Hi,

Two-finger double-tap works for me when stopping a track.

I also wanted to mention that if you like thunderstorms, NatureSpace has
 a
second app called Thundergod that includes several great recordings. If
you have the main NatureSpace app and you buy Thundergod, you get
 access
to all the Thundergod thunderstorm recordings in NatureSpace. You can
 then

 is
put headings for the different categories in the complete catalog, and
 add
a search feature to the in-app store. As of right now, the categories
 in
the complete catalog start with just a word, like morning or evening or
rain. I wish these words would be made into headings, so you could
 easily
move between categories using the headings option in the rotor. Also,
 if
someone recommends a track to you, the only way that you can make sure
 you
find it is to go into the complete catalog and patiently search for it
among the different categories. I plan to suggest these features to the
app developer. Other than these small issues, this app is absolutely
 awesome!

By the way, you probably should look through the complete catalog, as
 the
categories on the main in-app store screen don't list everything in
 that
 specific category.

Some tracks you might want to try:
 Riverknot (Rivers category)
 Life After Life (afternoons category)
 Pastureland (complete catalog, Afternoons category)
Back Home (complete catalog, Rain category)
 Moosejaw Creek (Afternoons category)
 The Cloud Engine (afternoons category)
 Mare Tranquillitatis
 The Secrets of Sunlight
 The Wolves (evenings category)
 The Ghost (Evenings category)

Double tap on the point of interest or address where you want to go. Then
double tap on the Plan a route button.
BlindSquare will show a list of the GPS apps you have installed that can

BlindSquare will launch the app you choose and pass the destination to that

I don't do routing much but you don't have to do that in blinsquare. You
feed your starting and ending points into blindsquare and tell it you want
to use google maps as your route-making source and blindsquare takes care of
the rest and gives you turn-by-turn directions as you walk.

RE: Please, I need some more suggestions about wearing Iphone on the neck.

2015-03-24 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi Maria and all other ladies looking for a solution to wearing the IPhone
around your neck. In the past I have seen some very small simple purses that
might hold the IPhone. The ones I'm thinking about have a very thin long
strap, and don't have a bunch of pockets or fiddley stuff on them. I'll keep
my eyes open and let you know if I find something like those again. Good luck.
God bless!

Hi Rick and all,
you said:
..I'll bet someone will come up with something that will provide a holder that
doesn't need to be attached to the phone or case permanently.
Well, honestly, I am not very optimistic about it.
As far as I know we have lightning connector since Iphone 5 came out (please
correct me if I am wrong) and there was not such a lanyard for Iphone 5 or at
least I was not successful to find it.
Please if anyone would have any idea of suitable option for me, let me know.
Thank you very much for advance.

 Maria,

I honestly don't think you will find such a configuration because of the way
the lightning connecter is designed. The old 30 pin connecter actually used a
set of clips that attached the connecter to the bottom of the phone. One had
to squeeze the sides of the connecter to release it. Lightning connecters on
the other hand do not physically attach, they just slide in and out. This
connecter would require some type of holder to keep the device from simply
slipping off the lanyard. I'll bet someone will come up with something that
will provide a holder that doesn't need to be attached to the phone or case
permanently. Hope you can find what you are looking for.

Thank you again for information, I believe it was helpful for other
 users as well.

I have an order in for the product you originally linked to. I spoke to the
person that makes them on the phone. It's true that the holder becomes part
of the case, but it is easily detached from the lanyard so you can still put
the phone in your pocket or something else. So, basically, whatever case you
use with the lanyard has to be dedicated to that particular configuration.
You can still take the phone out of the case if you want to use a different
one but the holder stays with that particular case. I personally don't mind
this but others might. I hope to have it within a few days.

 Hi list,
I am very sorry for such a long e-mail, but I need your help, so
please read it to the end if you can.

After reading instructions on the seller's website a few times I
think the product is not exactly what I have been looking for.
 They say:
...Be sure to give the adhesive this amount of time before using it.
The adhesive is so strong that it effectively creates a watertight
seal with a hard case. Never remove and then reuse an Adhesive
Holder. It is meant for just one application.
I use Otterbox deffender case with my Iphone 6. What if I need to
remove it for some reason, for example to clean the phone or if any
otterbox part would get damaged and need to be replaced, so that
lanyard will be useless and that's why I think it is not good for my needs.
When I got Iphone 4 I always wanted to wear it around my neck, so I
browsed Ebay and found this product:
 Silicone Lanyard

Ok I'll give this one more crack. I may have missunderstood the oragenal
question myself. Siri is turned on by default but you can turn siri off by
going to settings, General, Siri. Here you can turn Siri on or off, change
the voice gender or the way you interact with Siri.

RE: Relaxation App For Help Getting To Sleep?

2015-03-24 Thread Neal Ewers
Hi Anna and list. Anna, thanks for the information about these apps. As many of
you know, I record a lot of nature sounds. I have to say that these sounds are
recorded as well as any I have heard.

I do have one question. I can’t seem to delete the previews of sounds I have
listened to. I think this might be an accessibility issue, but if people have
figured out how to do this with VoiceOver, I would appreciate knowing the
secret.

Thanks much.

Best,

Anna

Another good app for this purpose is called Naturespace. It's very VoiceOver
accessible, and the tracks are fantastic! They have a catalog that you can
explore, broken down by category. When you go into the Naturespace Store within
the app, you'll see some categories, and then an option labeled complete
catalog. The only things I wish they would do is put headings for the different
categories in the complete catalog, and add a search feature to the in-app
store. As of right now, the categories in the complete catalog start with just
a word, like morning or evening or rain. I wish these words would be made into
headings, so you could easily move between categories using the headings option
in the rotor. Also, if someone recommends a track to you, the only way that you
can make sure you find it is to go into the complete catalog and patiently
search for it among the different categories. I plan to suggest these features
to the app developer. Other than these small issues, this app is absolutely
awesome!

By the way, you probably should look through the complete catalog, as the
categories on the main in-app store screen don't list everything in that
specific category.

Some tracks you might want to try:

Riverknot (Rivers category)

Life After Life (afternoons category)

Pastureland (complete catalog, Afternoons category)

Back Home (complete catalog, Rain category)

Moosejaw Creek (Afternoons category)

The Cloud Engine (afternoons category)

Mare Tranquillitatis

The Secrets of Sunlight

The Wolves (evenings category)

The Ghost (Evenings category)
