Yes, AccessNote is now free, rather than the $19.99 it was when I bought it. But, Writer is worth more than the $9.99 it costs. It is way better for writing and editing what you have written. No, you do not have to use an external keyboard, though I think it makes extensive writing easier. You can use the onscreen keyboard or dictation. Enjoy, Richard
