RE: Any good apps or websites for beginning to learn music braille?
The NLS Music Services Unit has several books on braille music, but I suspect they’re all in contracted braille. You can actually talk to people at the Music Services Division, if I recall, the number is (800) 424-8567, but it can be verified via the http://www.loc.gov/nls site. To keep this on topic, if you do find a braille resource that is useful, you can read it through the BARD app using a braille display. Re: How do you transfer iTunes epub content from an iPad to Drop Box to use with Voice Dream Reader?
Assuming the books are not DRM protected, and that the computer is Windows 7 or 8, you can use Windows Explorer to copy the files to Dropbox. Open Windows Explorer, go to the C Users folder. Then the My Music folder, then the iTunes folder, then the books folder. The books will be in folders by the author's name. Open the folder you want and copy the ePub file. Go to the desktop and open Dropbox and paste the file where you want it on dropbox. Then, Alt-Tab back to the books folder and copy the next ePub file you want and so on. Hi, Two-finger double-tap works for me when stopping a track. I also wanted to mention that if you like thunderstorms, NatureSpace has a second app called Thundergod that includes several great recordings. If you have the main NatureSpace app and you buy Thundergod, you get access to all the Thundergod thunderstorm recordings in NatureSpace. You can then delete Thundergod if you like, and still hear all the tracks from within NatureSpace. So it's a cheaper way to get this collection of tracks then buying them within NatureSpace. It's very VoiceOver accessible, and the tracks are fantastic! They have a catalog that you can explore, broken down by category. When you go into the Naturespace Store within the app, you'll see some categories, and then an option labeled complete catalog. The only things I wish they would do is put headings for the different categories in the complete catalog, and add a search feature to the in-app store. As of right now, the categories in the complete catalog start with just a word, like morning or evening or rain. I wish these words would be made into headings, so you could easily move between categories using the headings option in the rotor. Also, if someone recommends a track to you, the only way that you can make sure you find it is to go into the complete catalog and patiently search for it among the different categories. I plan to suggest these features to the app developer. Other than these small issues, this app is absolutely awesome! By the way, you probably should look through the complete catalog, as the categories on the main in-app store screen don't list everything in that specific category. Some tracks you might want to try: Riverknot (Rivers category) Life After Life (afternoons category) Pastureland (complete catalog, Afternoons category) Back Home (complete catalog, Rain category) Moosejaw Creek (Afternoons category) The Cloud Engine (afternoons category) Mare Tranquillitatis The Secrets of Sunlight The Wolves (evenings category) The Ghost (Evenings category) Thanks, Ari On Mar 21, 2015, at 12:07 PM, Destene Noller destene.nol...@icloud.com mailto:destene.nol...@icloud.com wrote: Thanks so much for these fabulous instruction! They provided you a wish not a verifiable promise. On the other hand, the best intentioned and highly committed organizations have problems. The library system here in Chicago switched its card catalog to a Canadian firm. Neither Internet Explorer in Windows nor Safari in iOS could access the search box and conduct a search, although Firefox could. This is despite the city and library having iron clad language in its vendor contracts requiring W3c accessibility compliance. Repeated contact was necessary by the library for the vendor to finally deliver accessibility and comply with its juicy contract. Why play footsie with a second-rate, second tier financial institution when you can have first rate access from a top tier institution that already has accessibility commitments for the blind. For banks, this includes Chase, PNC, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. For Internet Banking, consider Schwab and fidelity. Some of these organizations have received awards, others have spoken at the CSUN conference, and a few have stated access policies. BTW: I personally use Chase and Fidelity. And of these, how many attempt to use the BMO-Harris iOS app? I ask because I just got an extremely interesting telephone call from the local bank manager inquiring as to the nature of the problems with it. Last night I cooperated in a telephone survey done by a firm on behalf of BMO-Harris; all but two of my responses were quite favorable to the banking giant. Those two questions concerned my personal experience with online banking and the mobile app. I had to disclose my serious dissatisfaction with both aspects of BMO-Harris banking because both are quite inaccessible -- not completely, but nonetheless very difficult to use. The issue with the iOS app is that VoiceOver believes that information from previous screens is still in focus so that when trying to select (for example) a due date in the Bill Pay sections data from previous screens is read by VoiceOver. I have been assured that BMO-Harris is going to resolve this problem. I do believe this to be a quite sincere commitment and anticipate a far more VoiceOver accessible interface. Exactly when I cannot say, but at least there appears to be some very real concern in addressing this matter. I will add that I was very cordial and matter-of-fact about the problem. I got the sense that there will be a good-faith effort put into fixing this. - Bill Leader Dog Holland - Clothes make the man. Re: How to capitalize acronyms
Part of the problem is that the acronym I wish to use, MIDI, is translated as, MEDIA, when I use Siri. So, what I want to do is speak the capital letters in sequence, M I D I, without spaces. Fwd: TIP: Light and Easy Does It
Alan Sent from my iPad Air Begin forwarded message: From: M. Taylor mk...@ucla.edu Date: March 24, 2015 at 7:41:44 PM PDT To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: TIP: Light and Easy Does It Reply-To: viphone@googlegroups.com Hi All, The following is a short tip I wrote and published to the Candle Shore BLOG so thought I would share it here. Mark TIP: Light and Easy Does It Hello Everyone, In the olden-days, back when Windows Mobile 6.1 was the latest and greatest mobile OS on the planet, as it ran flawlessly on my beloved Samsung Blackjack 2, during the hustle and bustle of daily life, I would sometimes, very rarely mind you, find myself taking out my frustrations on my wireless device, said device being referred to these days as a Feature Phone, by, let us say, pressing the keys a little more enthusiastically than normal (smile). Being the calm, cool, and collective person that I have become since then, believe it or not, as hard as it may be to fathom, I still find that, oh so rarely you understand, there are occasions when my enthusiasm, the result of unexpected or unwanted daily events, attempts to rear its ugly head as I interact with my now beloved iPhone 6 Plus. Such attempts always fail as I have discovered that, on my iPhone 6 Plus, especially when VoiceOver, Apple's software screen reading solution for the blind and low vision, is enabled, the touch-screen is much more responsive when I use a lighter press/tap/swipe then a heavier one. So, if you find that your touch-screen device is not as responsive as it once was or not as reactive as it should be, after making sure its surface is clean, try using a soft smooth hand rather than a hard rough heavier one. Remember, light and easy does it. Mark -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. How to capitalize acronyms
Guys, I have a question concerning how to capitalize acronyms. Some acronyms appear to work, Othersdo not. I want to be able to speak MIDI withoutspaces. Re: BMO-Harris App Problems
Bill, If the bank actually has plans, they would share a timetable for resolution. Kelly On 3/26/15, William Gallik wfgal...@charter.net wrote: I'm just curious as to how many sight-compromised individuals do their banking at BMO-Harris? Which are the best programs?
Hello all I have just got one of those cool mini seika braille displays which I'm hoping to use with the IPhone as a student, now I'd like some solutions. (I don't have an IPad, so I'm hoping that I can use the IPhone just as good for what I'd like) I'd basically like to know what programs you guys who use braille keyboards use for the following: 1. Managing your life, i.e calendar, putting in important dates, tests and so on. Is the normal Calendar OK, or do you guys use something really better? 2. Word Processing. I'd like to be able to do two types of things, one is to write long documents, i.e lecture notes, but then I'd also like another program or solution that if someone mentions something like an important detail while I'm just out somewhere I could quickly be able to write it down and then somehow just organise all the quick notes I make, so this wouldn't be a question of having to write long notes, more about having to write something you hear very quickly and to be able to access and organise such things very quickly. So I wouldn't like to have to go through a whole long process to actually start the app if I just hear something I want to quickly write. On that subject, would you guys recommend then disabling the feature to make your phones lock, especially as I'd not like to have to take it out and use the touch screen and then can only use the keyboard? I'd like to use the keyboard for nearly everything and just keep the phone somewhere else without having to bother with two devices. 3. Is there really no other easier way to move documents or books or things you'd like to read to and from the IPhone than with ITunes, I really hate it? I'd basically love to move things more to the phone instead of from it. Yeah I know about emailing them, but sometimes I just don't have access to wifi, so would rather like some other answer. 4. Sorry for so many questions, last one I promise, is there a nice and accessible world clock sort of app? Thank you so much for all your help. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Have you deleted the old one from your phone? In iCloud Settings, you should see a Delete Account button. This will remove the account from your device, it won't erase it outright and completely. You'd choose to leave everything (contacts, calendar events, etc) on your phone, when prompted. Once done, sign in with your new account and choose to merge all your data. That should work, unless I'm not understanding how you have things set up and what you're trying to do. Hey Ms. Cara or anyone else who might know I ask the following: As it pertains to this Amazon accessibility email address is this specifically for iOS app related concerns or can one contact through it to report a problem with the web site and screen readers as well? I'm not trying to stray from the focus of the list but the address didn't seem specific I'm having a problem with the site and would love to communicate with them about it effectively but didn't want to assume. Re: Which are the best programs?
Hi, One of the biggest apps I couldn't live without is Voice Dream Writer. It is by far the best word processing app. As for calendars I use an app called Fantastical 2 for iPhone. With this calendar app, you can just type a sentence with the keyboard to type in an event. Like for instance, Jenn's house tomorrow at 5 PM. There are other sentences you can use, but that is just one. Jenn and KumiAnother app for quickly writing things down is drafts 4. Every time you open it, it goes to a blank piece of paper. Then you can go back and review what you wrote and do all kinds of stuff with it. I hope this will get you started a little bit. Hello Kimber and Neal, I just tried again and had no trouble. With the preview playing, I chose Info. Then I flicked until I got to Delete. I double-tapped it, and then confirmed that I wanted to delete it, and the track was deleted. I'm using iOS 8.3 beta 4. BMO-Harris App Problems
I'm just curious as to how many sight-compromised individuals do their banking at BMO-Harris?
