Yes, I am getting this too.
I wrote to accessibility at Apple, and they are saying to contact FaceBook
 about this.
Since FaceBook updates their app so frequently, that's probably a good way to
 go.

I think this may have started after I upgraded to I OS 8.3. Now, when I go
through my Facebook feed, every title of an article has the word product in
it. Is anybody else noticing this? It's kind of annoying. So I hope it can
 be fixed.

Yes, I dislike the languages that come up when doing that, took me 10 minutes
to get out of that screen so I could continue with the setup, it is annoying at
best.

Speaking of Languages, I had an odd experience this morning setting up a work
account, apparently it thought I was French Canadian, again took a while to
fix, but I was surprised, I don't do well with languages and never French but I
was able to figure out how to correct the problem despite the fact that it was
speaking French to me. Pretty funny actually once I got back to English that
is. This was on the computer, not the phone.

flick over to the Download button and double-tap it, but I got the bong just
as you did. I exited the screen, came back in and found the download

I think Apple Accessibility definitely needs to look into this, so I'm going

Hey guys,

OK, i don't know whether i should be concerned or what, but i have never
seen this before. I went to settings, and general, and software update
to go get the new 8.3.
When i clicked software update, i flicked right, it said software update
heading, then i flicked once more, and all i heard was a click sound,
then if i flicked again i heard the bong which means you're at the end
of where you can go. I'd enver had this happen before. In order to get
to the download of the IOS, i had to go all over the screen to find the
button to click on. This is a concern, as this has never happened
before. Any ideas, could something be wrong?

2015-04-10 Thread Jeff Samco
I'm using iOS 8.3. I need some additional help for enabling this
feature for downloading free apps with no password. I've read the
article but I'm stuck. I have not been using touch ID for many
months. Checked it under Setting anyway and it's clearly off. But in
the iTunes App Store setting, just below my ID there is a footer
statement saying Touch ID is enabled for all purchases. I can't
figure out how to change this.

 Any ideas?

one could enable free downloads without password yet still use Touch
Id for paid purchases or in-app purchases, but it seems it's either
using Touch Id for those as well as for free downloads or have free
downloads without password and having to type in one's password for
paid apps/in-app purchases.

Re: Audio Memos app now supports using the internal iDevice microphone in full frequency mode

2015-04-10 Thread Richard Turner
Neal,
Thanks for the tip about the filters.
I think you coined a new word. I love podcastlette! Not sure if you spell it
with one or two T's.
I'm going to tackle the manual from their web page, but if you could add one
more detail from your wealth of knowledge, that would be appreciated.
How do you adjust the volume of recording on the fly?
Thanks,
Richard

On Apr 10, 2015, at 11:30 AM, Neal Ewers neal.ew...@ravenswood.org wrote:

Hi, Like Boss Jock, this app now supports the removal of audio filters that
are used by Apple to make the internal microphone use less bass response than
the microphone can allow. Turn off these filters, and you have a very nice
sounding, full frequency microphone. While Boss Jock can do the same thing,
the Audio Memos app is less complicated because it is only for simple
recording and not like Boss Jock which allows one to add and mix other sounds
 in with the recording.

One nice thing about this app is that you can turn the filters back on and
now you have the microphone just as it sounds with the apple processing.
Sometimes I want to choose, and with this app, I can.

There is a free version, and a paid version. The nice thing is that the paid
version is as low as $0.99 and you can then decide on the in app purchases
you want like voice activation and many others. The cost of the total app if
you just want to purchase it out right is $9.99

The interface is very straight forward with a way to manually adjust the
volume control and the limiter at the same time without having to deal with a
 lot of technical parameters.

There are many ways to export recordings. You can use iCloud, email, Air
Drop, DropBox, iTunes, and you can even send them directly to your computer
by using a variant of your computer IP address to connect to the app. You can
also export files to other applications such as BossJock. In addition, You
can import songs from your music into the recorder.

Two links below. First is to the iTunes app store where you can read more
about and perhaps purchase this app. The second link is a short demo
recording I made using both the filtered and unfiltered settings in the app.

Quicknav gone for me in ioS 8.3

2015-04-10 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi all,
Anyone else has seen quicknav gone with bt keyboard after updating?
I cannot get any headings or tables navigation etc anymore.
Might also have been because I did a settings reset on my phone.
Is there anywhere one has to enable quicknav use in iOS?
Thanks for your help.

RE: Audio Memos app now supports using the internal iDevice microphone in full frequency mode

2015-04-10 Thread Neal Ewers
Richard, There is a gain control slider on the record screen, It actually goes
from 0 to 100%. When it is set on 0, that does not mean that the sound is off.
The volume adjust is actually part volume and part limiter. Well, how do I
explain this. The iPhone processing has its own limiter. So, when you have
filters on and are using the iPhone processing, you are simply turning up the
volume which also makes the sound closer and closer to the threshold of the
iPhone limiter. So, the higher you turn the volume, the more limiting you get.
With the filters off, this may not be the case. I haven’t played with this. I
do know that with the filters off, the microphone volume is at a lower level
and in that there is no apple processing, chances are there is no limiting when
you raise the gain to the higher positions. I haven’t checked this in the
update, but in the older version, you could actually change the volume while
you were recording. It does remember the last setting you were on.

Another question I am asked is about the quality slider. Its slider is also on
the record screen. When recording in wav format, 0% is 11.125 sampling rate,
50% is 22.5, and 100% is 44.1.

As for the spelling of podcastlette, JAWS only comes close to pronouncing it
correctly when you end it with two ts and an e. But, I’ve never thought of JAWS
as my grammar instructor, so I guess you’re on your own here. Smile.

Thanks for writing.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi, Like Boss Jock, this app now supports the removal of audio filters that are
used by Apple to make the internal microphone use less bass response than

the microphone can allow. Turn off these filters, and you have a very nice
sounding, full frequency microphone. While Boss Jock can do the same thing, the
Audio Memos app is less complicated because it is only for simple recording and
not like Boss Jock which allows one to add and mix other sounds in with the
recording.

One nice thing about this app is that you can turn the filters back on and now
you have the microphone just as it sounds with the apple processing. Sometimes
I want to choose, and with this app, I can.

There is a free version, and a paid version. The nice thing is that the paid
version is as low as $0.99 and you can then decide on the in app purchases you
want like voice activation and many others. The cost of the total app if you
just want to purchase it out right is $9.99

The interface is very straight forward with a way to manually adjust the volume
control and the limiter at the same time without having to deal with a lot of
technical parameters.

There are many ways to export recordings. You can use iCloud, email, Air Drop,
DropBox, iTunes, and you can even send them directly to your computer by using
a variant of your computer IP address to connect to the app. You can also
export files to other applications such as BossJock. In addition, You can
import songs from your music into the recorder.

Two links below. First is to the iTunes app store where you can read more about
and perhaps purchase this app. The second link is a short demo recording I made
using both the filtered and unfiltered settings in the app.

The command has changed to vo-q. Hitting left and right arrows together will
still work, but only, it seems, to enable arrow-based quick nav. For letter
navigation, you need to use the vo-q command now.

Re: recording audio note with evernote or other audio recorder

2015-04-10 Thread Dave Bahr
I suppose so, yeah. I never use headphones with my iphone though, I
always use a bluetooth headset. But if I'm recording a lecture, I just
wan to hit the record button and go, not have to have my headset on just
to hit the done button at the end of the lecutre, you know? Is there a
way to not have the app route audio to headphones and keep voiceover on
the speakerphone?

Dave, some recording apps assume that you will use headphones to monitor the

Subject: recording audio note with evernote or other audio recorder

Hi. I was trying to record an audio note with evernote on my iphone 6.
However, when I hit record, voiceover transfers its speech from the
speakerphone to the earpiece. I've noticed this happens with other audio
recording apps as well. So, how can I find the Done button without raising the
phone to my ear and trying to listen to voiceover talk to me faintly? What if
it's loud where I'm recording? Is there some gesture to stop the recording so I
don't have to hunt and peck for the done button at the top of the screen? Why
does voiceover route its audio to the earpiece when using the microphone? Any
help on this is greatly appreciated because I want to record more audio notes

thanks, dave

I currently alternate through 2 watches, a Tisot Silent T, and a watch

Here are my reasons for getting the Apple watch.

 1. I'm a geek and just can't help myself. (lol)
 2. I look forward to not having to take my phone off of my belt case every
time a notification comes in and getting haptec alerts on my wrist.
 3. I also look forward to being able to read and reply to text messages
via the watch again without having to fumble for my phone.
 4. Making and receiving calls right on the watch also really appeals to me.

After reading the many hands-on reviews around, I'm sure there will be
some other functions that I'll use daily. I think it's really a matter of
convenience. I do agree however that it won't be for everyone and the
things that appeal to me might be a turn off for others.

My only concern is that it's a 1.0 product and I think we all know how
that could go but again the geek in me says go for it Dude!

Some of the functionality coming with the Apple watch I was actually
getting with the BEM speaker band but alas it isn't a watch.

 Hi Rick,
As I said in a different thread, I won't be ordering an Apple Watch.
However, I would be very interested to know why you are. Do you now use a
braille watch? Just curious. I can't imagine not having a braille watch,
it's so convenient for what it is. And I also I'm just not seeing any
upside to having to watch the Apple one that is. So, I do respect your
opinion and your tech savvy, so would love to know why you are going to be
up at 3 AM to place your order. Good luck with it.
