Unzipping MP3 files directly to my phone

2015-05-29 Thread princessterri76
Hello everyone,
I was wondering, is there a program to use to unzip files? Especially MP3 files
I want to be able too do this from my phone.

Thank you

Terri

Hi Larry. I don't think that's outrageous. I think flooding them with
complaints is completely unnecessary. If they did put captions in their sign
in, get an app like a TapTapSee, save the image to the camera roll, and used
to Pepsi or some other app like it to give you the caption. There's really
no need to say we should flood them with complaints, especially since there
seems to be accessible solutions.

TIP: How to Keep Your iPhone Silent Except for Specific Contacts

How to Keep Your iPhone Silent Except for Specific Contacts
Posted: 27 May 2015 01:56 PM PDT

It's a bit more detailed and confusing than it should be, so this guide will
take you every single step of the way through creating a contact group -
which will allow you to add one or more specific contacts that will not be
muted when you set your iPhone to Do Not Disturb (silent mode). Here goes!

1.
First things first, you're going to need to set up iCloud if you haven't
yet. Apple has great instructions on how to do it. If you're thinking oh
no, not iCloud - don't worry. This is a set it and forget it thing. If
you've already setup iCloud, jump to step #2.

2.
Tap Settings

3.
Scroll down to iCloud and tap it.

4.
Toggle Contacts to ON if it's OFF

5.
Now launch your browser of choice, and visit https://www.icloud.com. If
you're prompted to sign in with your Apple ID and Password, do so.

6.
Locate Contacts and click it.

7.
What you're going to do is create a new Group - which you can put certain
contacts 'into', and contacts in that Group will always cause your phone to
ring/vibrate, even when set to Do Not Disturb.
Click the plus sign ( + ) in the bottom corner of the iCloud Contacts
menu.

8.
Select New Group

9.
Give your group a name. I opted for Family, since the people I will be
putting in my always ring list are family members.

10.
Now simply drag and drop names from your Contact List into your new group
(see screenshot below).

11.
Back on your iPhone, launch the Contacts app again, and tap Groups from the
top left corner.

12.
In the iCloud section, make sure your new Group is selected.

13.
Now return to the iPhone Settings and tap the Do Not Disturb setting.

14.
Tap the Allow Calls From option.

15.
Select your newly created group, and only your newly created group.

16.
Back in the Do Not Disturb settings, you may want to toggle Repeated Calls
to OFF. Sometimes coworkers think that the end of the world is approaching,
and it's not.

17.
That's it - you're done! Now you can enable Do Not Disturb at night (or in
meetings, on dates, whatever) - and your really important contacts will
still be able to reach you.

Actually, although the tone of the message was harsh, folks who use

Wow, couldn't you have just hit the delete key so we didn't have to hear
you whine and call people lazy and illiterate? If you have trouble
reading a message then just delete it and go on. The list isn't going to
be diminished at all by missing a message like the one below. If people
want their message read then they'll take the time to clean it up,
otherwise it'll just take up some space in someone's trash folder.

BTW, I changed the subject line to something at least somewhat relevant.

On 05/28/2015 09:40 PM, gs wrote:

You people using dictation need to really consider how stupid it looks

It used to be hilarious but became quite disheartening a long time ago.
It's even more embarrassing (or should be) when someone tries to stir
the pot by claiming there are accessible solutions for CAPTCHAs but
can't quite enter the characters to even make a convincing argument.
There really is no convincing argument anyway.

It's plainly a simple case of laziness or illiteracy, and I suspect
mostly laziness

So put this on the camera roll and send it off to to pepsi for
analysis. Maybe they'll take the time to correct the errors and offer an
opinion on the matter. Meanwhile, I pay for Amazon Prime and have a
password. I do not intend to be subjected to an inaccessible CAPTCHA
when there are accessible alternatives available, if this is indeed what
Amazon is doing. I have not tried to purchase anything in a couple of
days but will be using it tomorrow.

2015-05-29 Thread Paul Ferrara
Doesn't the same thing apply to your favorites; just going by memory here,
but if it does, it might be easier even to add someone to your favorites
since it is sort of a preselected group already made for you--no plus signs,
drag-and-drops etc.

This certainly is a useful feature, so if there is an even easier way, I'll
take it.

Thanks.

Amazon and CAPTCHA's [was Re: hope this isn't off topic]

2015-05-29 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Accessible options should be provided along side CAPTCHA's and every
device should be accessible. Obviously there are some exceptions, but
how many people thought touch screens couldn't be made accessible and
blind people were just being unreasonable when they wanted accessible
cell phones. If it weren't for blind people demanding accessibility and
smart engineers at Apple and other companies then you wouldn't be able
to be sending such short sighted messages to an iPhone list.

What CAPTCHA solving services are you talking about? I can think
ofWebvisum, which isn't being supported any more and only works with one
particular browser. I can think of several others which have cropped up
and then disappeared. If such CAPTCHA solving services bewcome so
ubiquitous then companies will come up with another technology to thwart
automated bots. Pinning your hopes on such 3rd party solutions is pretty
short sighted and it'll never compare to just having accessibility built
in from the beginning.

I'm not ashamed to be part of a community that wants access to products
and services that are available to all. Messages like the one below
though, that undermines the work being done by those who are working
hard to make our world more accessible does make me feel sorry for
someone with such a negative view of the world and the blindness community.

On 05/29/2015 06:02 AM, Shaf wrote:

Absolutely pathetic and makes me ashamed to be part of the blind community.
There are services--incredible services which allow you to easily solve
a captcha in under a minute. There is a reason that these services
exist, use them. Don't want to use them? Your loss.

The same people who complain about a captcha are the same people who
demand every device, app and beyond to be accessible with no compromise.
Absolutely pathetic and makes me ashamed to be part of the blind community.
There are services--incredible services which allow you to easily solve
a captcha in under a minute. There is a reason that these services
exist, use them. Don't want to use them? Your loss.

Hi Larry. I don't think that's outrageous. I think flooding them with
complaints is completely unnecessary. If they did put captions in
their sign in, get an app like a TapTapSee, save the image to the
camera roll, and used to Pepsi or some other app like it to give you
the caption. There's really no need to say we should flood them with
complaints, especially since there seems to be accessible solutions.

Hi Jan,

Force quitting all apps and either restarting your phone or doing a Reset
Network Settings which will also restart your phone in the process are
preliminary steps to upgrading to a new version of iOS. Many people say that
is not necessary to even close all apps let alone restart the phone or do a
Reset all network settings, but while it may not be necessary in many cases,
things can go wrong during an upgrade and many experienced iPhone people
have found that it is less likely something will go wrong if you do these
few simple preparations.

Keep in mind that if you reset network settings you will have to reconnect
to your WiFi and most likely be asked for your WiFi password after you
reboot the phone. This of course is necessary for an over the air update
since usually the files are too large to go over 3G or LTE.

Like I said, if you want to run the least risk when doing an over the air
upgrade, then do a backup either to iCloud or via iTunes, then orce quit all
apps and restart your phone or to be totally safe, go to Settings, General,
Reset and Reset All Network Settings. Let the phone reboot, reconnect to
your WiFi, then to the update.

Sieghard

In addition to force quitting all the aps, the friend should also
re-set the network settings in the event the phone is stuck on a data

Hi Jan,

This may be a focus issue, in older versions of iOS sometimes buttons
which
Voiceover read were not visually on the screen because they were on page 2
or further. In order to fix this, make sure you do a 3-finger swipe up
until
you get to whatever is the last page of the information, in this case the
terms and conditions or whatever. Then find the Agree button again and
double tap it. I believe you may also be able to do a 4-finger tap to move
to the very end of the information which may land you on the Disagree
button, try to swipe left once and double tap.

It's even more embarrassing (or should be) when someone tries to stir
the pot by claiming there are accessible solutions for CAPTCHAs but

There really is no convincing argument anyway.

It's plainly a simple case of laziness or illiteracy, and I suspect
mostly laziness

So put this on the camera roll and send it off to to pepsi for
analysis. Maybe they'll take the time to correct the errors and offer an

Re: Facebook with Safari

2015-05-29 Thread hebertisaac99
Have you tried this? First go to facebook.com on your iPhone.
it may ask you to sign in to your facebook account so if it does sign in to
your facebook account.
Then switch the rotor to headings and then swipe down to move heading by
heading.
You should then see your news feed.
Try that and see if that works.

please could you tell me if this is an app, or built into the iPhone software?

Tried looking in the app store, and i can’t seem to find it.

You can also make contact groups by using A-Z Contacts. This is a totally I
device solution. It avoids iCloud, and the use of the computer.

Re: hope this isn't off topic

2015-05-29 Thread Keith B.
Parts of this thread emphasize the need for all of us to proofread our
messages before sending them. As a person who has been blind all my life,
and as a person who has worked professionally for over 30 years, I can tell
you that messages with obvious errors in them do not impress those reading
them. While I completely understand that not all individuals are great (or
even good) spellers, I also firmly believe that everyone on this list is
capable of proofreading a message before sending it to the group.

Am I suggesting we see only perfect messages on the list? Not at all! I am
just suggesting that all proofread and correct obvious errors like to
Pepsi. I almost went out to look for an app named to Pepsi until I
realized what had happened.

Come on, folks. Let's be responsible enough and respectful enough to
proofread before sending, and let's also be responsible enough not to call
people lazy or to imply that they are stupid.

Just my opinion, but I think it is a good one!

Keith

Hi Larry. I don't think that's outrageous. I think flooding them with
complaints is completely unnecessary. If they did put captions in their
sign in, get an app like a TapTapSee, save the image to the camera roll,
and used to Pepsi or some other app like it to give you the caption.
There's really no need to say we should flood them with complaints,

Here is the full name and link in the app store. What you may have missed
listening to the app name is the hyphen between a and z.
It is free with ads or you can pay $1.99 to remove ads and they give a couple

Re: hope this isn't off topic

2015-05-29 Thread Chris Smart

Honestly, we should see less of this, not more. The phone is suggesting
words, fixing spelling etc. It's never been easier to get this stuff
right!
At 09:30 AM 5/29/2015, you wrote:

completely understand that not all individuals are great (or even good)
spellers, I also firmly believe that everyone on this list is capable of
proofreading a message before sending it to the group.
Am I suggesting we see only perfect messages on the list? Not at all! I
am just suggesting that all proofread and correct obvious errors like
to Pepsi. I almost went out to look for an app named to
Pepsi until I realized what had happened.
Come on, folks. Let's be responsible enough and respectful enough to
proofread before sending, and let's also be responsible enough not to
call people lazy or to imply that they are stupid.
Just my opinion, but I think it is a good one!

Hi Larry. I don't think that's outrageous. I think flooding them with
complaints is completely unnecessary. If they did put captions in their
sign in, get an app like a TapTapSee, save the image to the camera roll,
and used to Pepsi or some other app like it to give you the caption.
There's really no need to say we should flood them with complaints,
especially since there seems to be accessible solutions.

There is a option there that allows you to purchase the premium version.

Re: hope this isn't off topic

2015-05-29 Thread carol.pearso...@googlemail.com
I'd just like to say that I personally don't agree there, since some of us find
it really stressing to even do anything with the camera and I, for one, would
not order from them if I had to keep doing this ...

However much I love my iPhone, there are things about its use that make it more
stressful for me, personally, than some of the more tactile ways (phones etc we
used in the past) for working and I don't want to be pushed still further into
this quagmire.

Sorry, this is just a view and one which I suspect will be echoed by a few
other users. Whilst some appear to be able to take all this in their stride
and do all these things, others of us probably always will find them more
difficult. Is it really necessary to put yet another step into ordering?

Hi all, I talked to audible yesterday and they help me install the updated app.
However there are still some problems, if your books disappear, you can do a

Am I suggesting we see only perfect messages on the list? Not at all! I

Come on, folks. Let's be responsible enough and respectful enough to

Hi Larry. I don't think that's outrageous. I think flooding them
with complaints is completely unnecessary. If they did put captions in their

used to Pepsi or some other app like it to give you the caption. There's
really no need to say we should flood them with complaints, especially since

No, and my question wasn't about picture questions besides. I'm wondering what,
if anything, I can do when an in-game notification appears and covers the
question I'm trying to answer. VoiceOver can see the button to close it, but
double tapping the button doesn't do anything. I've even tried three-finger
swipes to see if the Close button wasn't in focus, but nothing happens with
those either.

There is a option there that allows you to purchase the premium version.

anything, and the question I'm supposed to answer remains stuck behind the

I just ordered on Amazon yesterday, no CAPTCHA for me. Hope I don’t find one
next time, I can’t get Webvism to work, Firefox is in my humble opinion not
overly friendly, getting bookmarks to work correctly takes me heck of a lot
longer than it should, only thing I like is that when I shop at Safeway it
keeps giving a running total while I add or subtract items from my order. I
can get the same info with IE 11 but Firefox does that automatically.
Otherwise, it is certainly not my favorite product to use, only loaded it to
solve CAPTCHAs and that does not work for me.

Had my nephew open my PayPal account because of a CAPTCHA, nasty things, and

Who ever invented them should have to figure them out without a screen.

Pinning your hopes on such 3rd party solutions is pretty short sighted and
it'll never compare to just having accessibility built in from the beginning.

RE: In iOS Calendar for adding a future event, what's the best way when the event is several months in the future?

2015-05-29 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Thanks, Alex.

I listened to your very well done podcast twice, and followed along.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to work by any of the 3 methods on either go
around, with Selected List Button, then double tap on a date with stated event,
then touch screen; unselected List , double tap, touch screen, and use rotor;
or Selected List button, touch screen, and change to Headings.

The date I chose had 2 events spoken, but nothing was there. VO simply
announced No Events or Heading Not Found.

I’m running iOS 8.3 on an iPhone 6.

Could there be a setting somewhere that’s not right
I’m stumped.

Also, I tried Fantastical. It certainly appears promising, but it seemed
somewhat erratic on my first try – Jumping from May 2015 to December 2014 with
a simple flick, and somehow deleting an event from a week later than the date I
had selected. Could be operator error, too. I’ll keep trying, but would like to
get the native iOS app working.

Thanks, Keith

The event did appear, but it did so silently. :) Right below the grid of days
you'll find a list of all events for the selected day, right on the same screen
as the grid. I did a podcast on the two possible list modes, because the

If you're in Month View, so you can see all the days of the month on the
screen, just touch a day and use three-finger swipes up or down to move month
by month. This should get you to the right place relatively fast. Some people
also like the Fantastical app for this purpose, since you can type something
like appointment on November 4 ant 6 and it will figure out when the event is
automatically.

RE: In iOS Calendar for adding a future event, what's the best way when the event is several months in the future?

2015-05-29 Thread Richard Turner
Keith,

Are you in the month view when you double tap on the date with the events?

If you are, then you will find them at the bottom of the screen just under the
last week of the month.

The month view is like a wall calendar with each week across the screen, so the
month takes about 5 lines.

Then under the last Sunday of the month if you have the weeks starting on
Sunday, you will find your events for that day.

HTH,

Richard

However there are still some problems, if your books disappear, you can do a

read it. I discovered that one. As I get more info I promise I will let you all

I just contacted amazon and there is a work-around. When you get one of their
retail assistants, ask for the password assistance unit. They will transfer
you and you tell the person about the captia issue. They will get info from
you and put in a request to remove the captias from any accounts you have.

Hi Larry. I don't think that's outrageous. I think flooding them with
complaints is completely unnecessary. If they did put captions in their sign

Pepsi or some other app like it to give you the caption. There's really no need

I have not used the native calendar app for a long time.
I opened it and it proved to me why Fantastical 2 is a superior calendar.
Try this with the native app:
 1. Get to your desired month.
 2.
Make sure where it says list button it is not selected. If it says
selected, double tap and it will not say selected.
 3. Find your day and double tap.
 4. Turn the rotor to events and flick up or down.
If that doesn't help, buy Fantastical 2 which will access all your events
 from the native calendar, etc.
That is my very biased and jaded opinion.
 Feel free to ignore me.
I'm spending too much time fighting with other technology today, so probably
have a more negative reaction to the Calendar than it deserves.
 Later,
 Richard

 Thanks, Alex.

I listened to your very well done podcast twice, and followed along.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to work by any of the 3 methods on either go
around, with Selected List Button, then double tap on a date with stated
event, then touch screen; unselected List , double tap, touch screen, and use
rotor; or Selected List button, touch screen, and change to Headings.

The date I chose had 2 events spoken, but nothing was there. VO simply
announced No Events or Heading Not Found.

I’m running iOS 8.3 on an iPhone 6.

 I’m stumped.

Also, I tried Fantastical. It certainly appears promising, but it seemed
somewhat erratic on my first try – Jumping from May 2015 to December 2014
with a simple flick, and somehow deleting an event from a week later than the
date I had selected. Could be operator error, too. I’ll keep trying, but
would like to get the native iOS app working.

The event did appear, but it did so silently. :) Right below the grid of days
you'll find a list of all events for the selected day, right on the same
screen as the grid. I did a podcast on the two possible list modes, because
the feature is great, but confusing. Here's the link:

Paypal app not letting me log in?

2015-05-29 Thread Alex Hall
Hello list,
I'm trying to use the Paypal app for the first time in a long time. I see my
name and email address, and a field for a password. I type the password--which
I just updated, so I know it's right--and that's all I can do. The enter key on
the keyboard does nothing, and the Log In button remains dimmed, no matter
what I do. I've tapped it anyway, I've tried to scroll to see if an error
message appeared somewhere off-screen, I've tried the button with the keyboard
visible *and* hidden… I'm not sure what the problem could be. Does anyone have
any ideas? Is this a VoiceOver problem; that is, would a sighted person be able
to hit the button and log me in? Thanks for any help.

Zagg ocket keyboard

2015-05-29 Thread jennie . facer
I just got this keyboard today. It is foldable like the Verbatim was. I like
it, but want to warn those who may buy it that it doesn't have a home button,
so I have to use the control plus option plus the letter H for a home button.
There doesn't seem to have an escape key either. If anyone has this keyboard
and has made it work, let me know.

Thank you so much!

2015-05-29 Thread Larry Lumpkin
No, what I did was get on the main amazon site and get to the page where the
captia appeared. On that page was a “having difficulty/sight impaired” link. I
pressed this and there was a form for entering your troubles.

There was a “vall me now” or a “call me in 5 minutes” button. If you pressed
the “call me now” button, your phone rang instantly and you were placed in a
queue. Hope this helps.

Hi Larry. I don't think that's outrageous. I think flooding them with
complaints is completely unnecessary. If they did put captions in their sign
in, get an app like a TapTapSee, save the image to the camera roll, and used to
Pepsi or some other app like it to give you the caption. There's really no need

RE: In iOS Calendar for adding a future event, what's the best way when the event is several months in the future?

2015-05-29 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi,

If you want a real easy one, its worth its money and it was designed for the
blind. Try VO Calendar. In that one, just tap on other month, select the
month you want and go to the date you want.

It also synchs with the native calendar so, when you set an appointment using
SIRI, it goes to the native calendar and is syncht with your VO calendar. That
is the same with Fantistical 2

Still nothing. Thanks for trying.

I’ll keep playing with Fantastical to see if I can get it to work for me. I may
have some questions!

Alex or others, I’ll still welcome other suggestions for the native Calendar
app, if there’s anything to suggest.

I have not used the native calendar app for a long time.

I opened it and it proved to me why Fantastical 2 is a superior calendar.

Try this with the native app:

1. Get to your desired month.

2.

Make sure where it says list button it is not selected. If it says selected,
double tap and it will not say selected.

3. Find your day and double tap.

4. Turn the rotor to events and flick up or down.

If that doesn't help, buy Fantastical 2 which will access all your events from
the native calendar, etc.

That is my very biased and jaded opinion.

Feel free to ignore me.

I'm spending too much time fighting with other technology today, so probably
have a more negative reaction to the Calendar than it deserves.

Later,

Richard

Using iTunes for Windows to Sync an App to iPhone 5

RE: In iOS Calendar for adding a future event, what's the best way when the event is several months in the future?

2015-05-29 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi, Richard.

Tried it again. No luck.

Yes, I’m in the month view.

I go to July and make sure VO speaks Selected List button.

I go to July 13, and VO speaks 2 Events.

I double tap.

I go to the area you suggested. VO speaks No Events. I flick back once, and get
the last day of July, July 31.

Still stumped.

Keith,
Are you in the month view when you double tap on the date with the events?
If you are, then you will find them at the bottom of the screen just under the
last week of the month.
The month view is like a wall calendar with each week across the screen, so the
month takes about 5 lines.
Then under the last Sunday of the month if you have the weeks starting on
Sunday, you will find your events for that day.

HTH,

Richard

Thanks, Alex.

I listened to your very well done podcast twice, and followed along.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to work by any of the 3 methods on either go
around, with Selected List Button, then double tap on a date with stated event,
then touch screen; unselected List , double tap, touch screen, and use rotor;
or Selected List button, touch screen, and change to Headings.

Thanks, Keith

you'll find a list of all events for the selected day, right on the same screen
as the grid.

2015-05-29 Thread Richard Turner

Later,
Richard

Alex or others, I’ll still welcome other suggestions for the native Calendar
app, if there’s anything to suggest.

emoji's skins

2015-05-29 Thread Chris Chaffin
When working with the Emoji keyboard, does anyone know of an accessible way to
select a skin of a particular Emoji?
For example, if you try to choose the hands raised in celebration emoji, you
just get a sound, and then you are suppose to choose the particular skin of
that emoji you want. Without having an accessible way of accessing the skins,
then that would make some emoji's not available to voice over users.
So if anyone knows how to select skins of an emoji, please let us know!
