Hello list,
please, is it also possible to tag pages and groups?
Thanks.
With kind regards

Hi,

Just start typing there name, then when you have several letters of their name
entered, run your finger down the right hand side of the screen from the top.
You will see the auto complete suggestions. When you find the one you want,
double tap it to enter the full name. Don't forget to press space before typing
the next word, or else they will be ran together.

Hope this helps,

Re: Dictionary app, American heritage 5th edition

2015-08-01 Thread David Justice

Mary,

The interesting thing about the Concise Oxford dictionary is that you can
manage to get the definition. Once you have typed in a word the definition is
displayed on the screen. Fine for sighted people, not so good for VoiceOver
users as I said. However, there is a more button. If you press that and then
select Share, then you can select message or mail and the definition will be
readable in that app. Once you have read it, then you cancel out and return to
the dictionary. Or, instead of choosing one of those apps, you could select
copy and then paste the definition into notes or whatever. Yeah I know, a pain
to go through, especially for a short definition.

Oh yes, the cost for the app was about 12 or 13 dollars.

While it was Richard Petty who recommended it, I did a little research
because of Mark's question about why it costs so much.
The hard cover print edition is $41.83 on Amazon.
Its shipping weight is 7.5 pounds.
 It is 2112 pages.
This app says it contains everything that is in the print edition.
About 20 years ago, Oxford English Dictionary 2nd edition that was 21 print
volumes, was about $900 in print, became available for $130 on a CD Rom.
Granted the OED 2nd edition had over six hundred thousand words, the cost
 of dictionaries have dropped dramatically.
What you are paying for is the linguistic expertees that goes into the
research on the history and usage of the words.
According to Mr. Petty, the American Heritage app is quite accessible with
 VoiceOver.

 Just my two cents worth.

Surely answering that won’t violate the NDA so long as you don’t go into

There is the Oxford Dictionary Quick Search that requires an internet
connection that is pretty accessible and is free. It has ads and if the
definition is really long you can't do the usual three finger swipe up to
scroll through.
You can get beyond that by flicking right, but the visual definition on the
screen doesn't change, but VoiceOver does read stuff not visible on the screen.
There doesn't seem to be a share option with that one.

I still like the dictionary.com app and paying a little to get rid of ads etc.

If there was a full OED option that was accessible, I'd be really tempted.

I've not found anything.

computer but without using ITunes which I hate using it
 really.
I blugged the USB cable, and my IPhone is showing in my computer as new
Drive, I can find my photos but not all of them, and I can
not find all my videos that I recorded. did I make any changes in my iphone
 that do that?
And is there any other way to do This?
I was using the dropbox to take my photos and videos by the camera upload
feature, but also, it can not take all my videos and
 photos.
the main reason of using dropbox, is I can see the Date of the photo.

IF you have any easier solution please let me know

Re: good video magnifier apps?

Another list recommended the same one, and I've heard of it from others. I
wasn't sure if it lived up to its claims, or if other apps were better but not
as well known. I'll give this one a try, thanks.

APPLE SUPPORT FOR BRAILLE

2015-08-01 Thread 'carol.pearso...@googlemail.com' via VIPhone
Hi all,

I know you can't really disclose Apple's plans, as it were, for IOS9, but I
wonder if any of you testers can assure me you use the Braille facilities and
are looking to iron out some of the abysmal drawbacks of using a Braille
display at present. The time lag of the display is one of the things I am
passionate about and another is the way in which the cursor appears to be
unable to follow the Braille very accurately and I am not always sure exactly
where I am placed. I shouldn't have to pick up my phone to check this out.

On a general issue and not just looking at what's to come, I'd also be
interested in any settings you have that make the lagging less for you,
together with which display you're using. Perhaps everyone has given up with
Braille input in this way now. We shouldn't have to, though, and of course,
deaf-blind friends still need this, even if we can perhaps manage in other ways.

If Jonathan Moson is reading this, Jonathan, has Apple stopped listening to
your comments on using Braille displays? What exactly do you think needs to be
done to make working with Braille displays a real pleasure and enhance life
once again?

Re: How to sync windos firefox bookmarks in iPhone's safari?

2015-08-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not aware of a way to do what you want. I used to use a service and
plugins to keep my bookmarks synced across IE and Firefox on all of my
various systems, but I stopped using this when I just switched to
Firefox and used their sync feature. I'm not sure if this service still
exists and weather they have a plug in or app for Safari on the iPhone.
I know Firefox isn't an option on the iPhone, but if you're willing to
switch browsers, you might want to try out Chrome. I think it does what
you want.

Re: AppleWatch owners - how far can one stray from the phone and still have the watch work well?

2015-08-01 Thread Terry-Ann Saurmann

Hi Keith,

I do not presently own an Apple Watch, however, it is my understanding that
it will work anywhere in your home, so long as everything is connected to
Wifi. Therefore, you would have no problem charging your phone, regardless
of where it would be located. However, there is a distance limit for
communication between the phone and the watch when not on a Wifi connection.
Unfortunately, I don't recall what that distance is. Terry

Hi,

I'm thinking about getting an AppleWatch.

I'm curious how far one can wander away from the phone while wearing the
watch and still have the watch work well. It would be nice to be able to
charge the phone but still walk around the house with some functionality.

Thanks for any info. Keith

2015-08-01 Thread Richard Turner
I should also note that you have to have allow notifications on in the
notification center and be sure sounds are turned on if you want it to chime
when not in the foreground.

From the app store description and What's new?

During 2009, the UK Parliament celebrated the 150th anniversary of its world
famous Clock Tower, Great Clock and Great Bell.
The name Big Ben is often used to describe the tower, the clock and the bell
but the name was first given to the Great Bell. 1859 was the beginning for all
three elements when the Clock Tower was completed, the Great Clock started on
31 May and the Great Bell’s chimes were heard for the first time on 11 July.

Have your iPhone (or iPod Touch) display the time of day in style.
Options include:
adding a digital clock display
showing a seconds hand
having it make a tick-tock sound
having it chime and toll on the hour
Pointless? Maybe. Decorative? Certainly.

Thanks to all who left comments and suggestions for improvement. In particular
to Dave, whose persistence finally motivated us to release this new version.
What's new
new high quality Big Ben art
day photo from 7am, night from 8pm
new high quality sounds
now chimes the Westminster Quarters, even when the app is not running (can be
turned on/off in the options)

Re: bluez 2 by Aftershokz

2015-08-01 Thread Alex Hall
That's one of m complaints about this headset. Siri and dictation are, I'm
pretty sure, a limitation of the current bluetooth standard used by Aftershokz,
and they'd need to make a whole new model to address the problem. Even then, I
don't know that upgrading to bluetooth 4 or 4.1 would fix things.

Call quality is the other problem I've run into. It's like the microphones just
don't work well, and the volume others hear is very low. I find the Bluez works
okay in quiet environments, and sometimes I can manage to use it while I'm
outside, but it's certainly not the best for making calls. Sorry I can't offer
more positive news.

 Hi all,

I have the bluez 2 Aftershokz headset for my iPhone, and I like it a lot, but
there is one question I have. The voice quality on phone calls really sucks.
I had thought maybe sometimes, it was just a bad connection, but it seems
like it is really hard for people to hear me on it. Today, when I turned it
off while talking to a friend, she could hear me a lot better without it, but
I can’t and don’t want to talk on the phone while holding it to my ear all
the time. Also, SIRI and dictation are deplorable with this headset. Does
anyone have any tips for getting it to work better, or is there any firmware
update or something I can get that might improve this? Any help would be
 appreciated.

Actually, toggling speech on and off is a three finger double tap.

A two finger triple tap gets you the item chooser.

iOS syncs Internet Explorer Favorites through itunes. You could
export your Firefox bookmarks to IE and then use itunes to sync the IE

bluez 2 by Aftershokz

2015-08-01 Thread Nicki keck
Hi all,

I have the bluez 2 Aftershokz headset for my iPhone, and I like it a lot,
but there is one question I have. The voice quality on phone calls really
sucks. I had thought maybe sometimes, it was just a bad connection, but it
seems like it is really hard for people to hear me on it. Today, when I
turned it off while talking to a friend, she could hear me a lot better
without it, but I can't and don't want to talk on the phone while holding it
to my ear all the time. Also, SIRI and dictation are deplorable with this
headset. Does anyone have any tips for getting it to work better, or is
there any firmware update or something I can get that might improve this?
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: good clock app

2015-08-01 Thread Richard Turner
From the app store description and What's new?

During 2009, the UK Parliament celebrated the 150th anniversary of its world
famous Clock Tower, Great Clock and Great Bell.
The name Big Ben is often used to describe the tower, the clock and the bell
but the name was first given to the Great Bell. 1859 was the beginning for all
three elements when the Clock Tower was completed, the Great Clock started on
31 May and the Great Bell’s chimes were heard for the first time on 11 July.

Have your iPhone (or iPod Touch) display the time of day in style.
Options include:
adding a digital clock display
showing a seconds hand
having it make a tick-tock sound
having it chime and toll on the hour
Pointless? Maybe. Decorative? Certainly.

Thanks to all who left comments and suggestions for improvement. In particular
to Dave, whose persistence finally motivated us to release this new version.
What's new
new high quality Big Ben art
day photo from 7am, night from 8pm
new high quality sounds
now chimes the Westminster Quarters, even when the app is not running (can be
turned on/off in the options)

AppleWatch owners - how far can one stray from the phone and still have the watch work well?

I'm curious how far one can wander away from the phone while wearing the watch

phone but still walk around the house with some functionality.

Thanks for any info. Keith

Re: good clock app

2015-08-01 Thread Terry-Ann Saurmann
I use an app called Chimes. It works on all Idevices. It allows the user
to choose between West Minster, (three different options) St. Michael and
Widdington chimes and sounds very good. It is not as Voice Over friendly
as it used to be, but is still manageable. Terry

RE: Apple Music in iOS 9 gets a much-needed redesign | Macworld

2015-08-01 Thread SSEric
Rose, last week I wrote with some of these kinds of questions - for answers
or pointers to answers. I got no response. Perhaps you and I are the only
one who hasn't figured it out or we are the only ones using Music.

With much use, I am finding how lots of the app works. I don't find the same
thing with radio stations as you. My issue with them is it seems I must have
all the same music as Apple because they sure play a lot of what I already
have. I do find if you go to radio from a song, you get a much closer type
of music. Someone talked about what it really means to love a song, but I
didn't get it.

I would stick with the free subscription for three months. $10 per month is
a big change for me, but I would probably blow that some other way..

Open to any tips you discover.

Eric

I am thinking of canceling Apple Music as the as it just does not seem to
meet my needs, the radio stations are not great, trying to set up the For
You tab speaks but does not react as many other things in VO, I have yet to
figure out exactly how to work that tab, seems I think I have selected what
I like but then it seems I select nothing. The only part that works right
is the music already on my iPhone. I probably am not figuring out something
here but in the just over a month that I have played with it, it seems
rather worthless, just a bit but not much better than iTunes 12.2. A help
section to explain especially the For You tab would help, as the rest except
for the music on my phone have not been especially useful in my limited
experience. But then, I really did not like iTunes radio either.

Until this summer I have been unable to play with the music much.

bummer. I was hoping they would add a thumbs down/ban option. I really don't
like any of apple music's stations. Its find for having access to such a
huge music library and therefor one can create all kinds of playlists but I
just don't care for their stations. It sucks when I keep having to hear the
same songs and artists that I don't care for over and over. So, I just don't
use the apple Music stations.

Here is an article in MacWorld that talks about the new look for Apple music
in iOS nine. One thing they have changed which I do not like is that now,
you can start a radio station without having to put the song you're station
is based on into my music. With iOS nine, at least in the beta being
discussed by MacWorld, this is not possible. You can't start a radio station
from a song unless that song is in my music. If you want to keep all of
your music being just things that you own and don't want to mix in rented
stuff, this change is clearly not good.

Apple Music in iOS 9 gets a much-needed redesign

Remember the good old days when the only thing you could do to a song was
play it?

When Apple Music first launched in iOS 8.4 on June 30, the streaming service
was bombarded with hidden menus and a wild array of options. In fact, this
menus on menus on menus design was one of
http://www.macworld.com/article/2946190/apple-music-complaints-why-this-str
eaming-service-needs-some-work.html our biggest complaints about Apple
Music when it first launched.

Well, if the

rything-you-need-to-know.html iOS 9 public beta is any indication, it looks
like Cupertino's UX design wizards have started to clean up Apple Music's
messy interface. The iOS 9 update gives the Music app a subtle but
much-needed makeover so you can spend less time browsing through options and
more time actually listening to music.

The most drastic change to Apple Music in iOS 9 is the redesign of the More
Options menu that can be accessed by clicking on the ellipses (...) next to
each song. In iOS 8.4, this More Options menu was just a long list of
options-pretty overwhelming, especially when listening to music on the go.
Tapping it surfaced no fewer than 10 options for each song, and that didn't
even include the hidden-but-basic functions to View in Album or View Artist.

Everything that you can possibly do with a song on Apple Music you can do
via this bloated More Options menu, so it makes sense that it
