Changing the look of the music app under 8.4 -- is it possible?

2015-09-08 Thread Kimberly
Hi All,

I recently updated my phone to iOS 8.4, but the new format of the music app is
driving me crazy. Is it possible to get the old look of the music app back? I'm
not interested in the apple music service and won't be using it. So is it
possible to get my familiar tabs back?

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Changing the look of the music app under 8.4 -- is it possible?

2015-09-08 Thread Kimber Gardner
At least I would like to be able to put the tabs back to playlist,
artist, albums and songs. The radio and connect tabs are useless to me
since I don't use either of those functions.

I've been googling and it seems like a lot of other people hate the
new music app too. One guy even wrote his own app because he hated it
so much. Haha.

OMG thank you, someone else who wants the old app back.
I haven't even looked at the new one because once you upgrade to 8.4
you can't downgrade, so both my phone and ipod are on 8.3.
There are sighted people who can't stand the new layout too, if that helps any.
If anyone does know a way to put the old tabs back that isn't super
complicated, please pass it along.

RE: Changing the look of the music app under 8.4 -- is it possible?

2015-09-08 Thread Alan Lemly
Kimber,

I'm pasting after my signature the text of an article I copied from the web
discussing turning off the Apple Music service and returning to a playlists
menu in iOS 8.4. This may just say the same thing as Sieghard's post but since
I'm still on iOS 8.3, I can't test it.

The article came from this page:

http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/06/30/how-to-hide-the-apple-music-subscription-service-get-back-playlists-parent-menu-in-ios-84

Here's a TinyURL to the same page:

Alan Lemly

How to hide the Apple Music subscription service & get back Playlists parent
menu in iOS 8.4

By Neil Hughes
Tuesday, June 30, 2015, 12:52 pm PT (03:52 pm ET)
Though heavily hyped, Apple Music subscriptions may not be for everyone. Those
who want to remove the streaming service from their iOS 8.4 Music app, and gain
back easy access to custom playlists in the process, can easily do so — here's
how.

After updating to iOS 8.4, users can simply open the native Settings app and
scroll down to Music. Within that menu a new section for Apple Music includes a
switch labeled Show Apple Music.

If this switch is on, the layout of the iOS Music app is geared toward catering
to Apple Music subscribers, and also promoting the monthly subscription service
to those who have not yet signed up.

Flipping this switch off, however, removes the "For You" and "New" parent menus
in the iOS 8.4 Music app, and replaces them with the legacy "Playlists" option
at the bottom of the screen.

Turning off Apple Music support within the iOS 8.4 Music app might be an ideal
solution for users who prefer to own their music rather than pay an ongoing
subscription fee. It also makes the app more usable for those who prefer
creating their own native playlists within their library.

Playlists still exist within the Music app for those who are subscribed to
Apple Music, but it takes one more step to access: Tap on the "My Music" parent
menu at the bottom of the screen, and then switch from "Library" to "Playlists"
at the top of that view.

The Playlists view appears the same in the iOS 8.4 Music app for both Apple
Music users and non-Apple Music users alike.

Disabling Apple Music on an iPhone or iPad leaves the "Radio" and "Connect"
parent menus at the bottom of the app. Both of these features — including the
new 24/7 streaming Beats 1 station — remain available to those who are not
subscribed to Apple Music.

Thanks for the tip on getting rid of the connect tab. But turning off
show apple music didn't make much difference in the appearance of the
app overall. I still have the tabs at the bottom set to my music,
playlists and radio. Is there a way to change those?

Actually I think he said that was a feature coming soon.

Voice dream reader and reading from one device to another

2015-09-08 Thread Mary Otten
I just read where they have released voice dream for android. One of the
features in this version is the ability to read on one device and pick up where
you left off on another one, rather like we can do with the Kindle app or the
iBooks app or the nook app. I don't use this particular feature very much. But
I don't remember seeing it on the iOS version. Do we have that capability?

. I read that thing twice, and really thought it was included now. I did see
the list of future features. But I was sure that the cloud syncing was in the
newly released app. I do have an old Nexus seven, but then I don't have any
other android devices to try it with. I did note he said that voices from
Vona and the folks who make the James voice, the name of which company has
temporarily slipped my mind, are coming in future. So I guess there's no point.

Re: My experience with the NFL app on the Apple TV

2015-09-08 Thread Christina C.
May I please confirm a few things. Due to all the emails in this particular
conversation thread, I got a bit lost. :)

1. Is this Game pass new for this year? I thought the only way to get access to
all football games was through Sunday Ticket on DirecTV.

2. Does Game pass include all the games from all the teams?

3. Are the radio versions of the game only available through the iOS app but
not the appleTV?

4. Are the radio versions of the games only available live or are they recorded?

5. Is the NFL iOS app the only way to listen to the radio broadcasts of all the
games from all the teams?

Thanks

Re: From the announcement of the Android version of Voice Dream Reader

2015-09-08 Thread Richard Turner

When I first read it, the coming soon to Android section jumped out at me
because he mentioned the sleep timer and braille support which already exist in
the iOS version.
But, the across platform piece is not currently in iOS.
I'll let you know when I hear back from him. I would love it if that was
available.

Hi Christina,

1. Yes, it’s new for this year.
2. It does include all teams.

5. You can listen to the live radio broadcasts on iOS and on the desktop.

Re: Unable to pair Smart Beetle to my iPhone 5S running iOS 8.4.1

2015-09-08 Thread Jared
I thought the emulation was automatic. Made those changes and the display
shows up a "BrailleSence(b)" when I see it on my laptop. Going to general,
accessibility, voiceover, chose a braille display still just sits there
searching. I wonder if it's an issue with network conjestion at work, I see
over 10 bluetooth devices and I know we have a lot of wifi networks as well.

Personally I don’t think it is worth 100 bucks since you can’t watch the games
live, but that’s just me. Apps already do it on the phone, so paying that just
to hear audio is pointless. JMO

take suggestions.
Please give this a look and consider making a pledge. For those of us who use

I'm not sure whether it's the network. One more trick I thought I'd mention
is: try to switch on SmartBeetle first, and unlock your iphone /ipad second. I
sometimes have to do this sequence twice.

Good luck. I hope things will get smoother once Apple releases the driver.

Yes, that’s what that means. You can only watch them on-demand, but you can
listen to the radio broadcasts on the iOS app and the desktop. I personally
think it’s worth it, but that’s just me since I don’t care about tv announcers
that much and love the fact I can watch past seasons.

Re: College football on youri-device

2015-09-08 Thread Steve
As is usual, SiriusXm is prevented by NCAA rules from streaming the college
games. So, the only ones you'll see might be if they are carried by ESPN. You
can stream pro games, though.

I use OO-Tunes and do a search for the game I want like "Michigan State
Football". This usually results in a stream link, which seems to work a lot
better than trying to find over-the-air broadcast stations who often have their
live-streams blocked.

With all the talk of NFL, I'm curious about what people are doing this year for
efficiently finding and receiving college games. I could have sworn that sirius
XM had a lot of games in the past, but when I went on to radium and search
through all of the sirius XM stations they have, I did not find any reference
at all to any college football. On TuneIn, search for college football did turn
up some games, and then it degenerated into a mess, with various conference
names showing up, but double tapping on them did absolutely nothing. So, what
are folks doing to see the schedule and click on desired games in an efficient
manner?

apple music question

2015-09-08 Thread Billy Maynard

hi,

I have apple music and I've downloaded some stuff for offline listening. Is
there a way other htan my memory to which I've downloaded or not when off my
network? I can't see to find an 'only display offline music'. If anyone
knows how to do this I'd apprecaite it.

Re: sports scores update

Hello. Yahoo Sports, which is free, and lets you set an unlimited
number of favorite teams, will let you keep up with scoring for your
favorite teams. You can set notifications for pre-game, game start,
scoring, period change, close game, red-zone (for football), and game
end. I may have missed a few but there are a lot. It can be a little
tedious to set up for each of your favorite teams but once set it
works great. Not sure of a way you can follow the game progress with a
Braille display, or even if that is possible.

Good luck,
Wayne

That’s not true, actually. I believe each university can make that choice to
stream them online with Sirius or not. UT does, for example.

added and like to just shuffle them and listen to them.
Thanks.

Re: Questions regarding downloading books, movies, music, and TV shows for freee

2015-09-08 Thread Richard Turner

For free, you can borrow movies, music and audio books from your local
city/county library.
Check with your local library to find out what digital services they use and
what apps are necessary.
Free audio books through BARD.
Spotify has a free mode with ads for listening to music.

New audible update

2015-09-08 Thread Mary Otten
There is an update for the audible app in the US App Store. The blurb that
talks about new features does not mention a fix for the problem many of us have
noted, where are books appear and disappear. I hope it is fixed, will know in a
few minutes when I try the update. I am disappointed that they spent time on a
bunch of social media garbage which frankly I can't see anybody needing.
Especially if they haven't fix this real problem that will affect everyone who
has an audible book library. Here's hoping it's fixed but not mentioned.

Re: Unable to pair Smart Beetle to my iPhone 5S running iOS 8.4.1

2015-09-08 Thread Paul Richard McGann
todd,

sigh, there is nothing I can do about it as it is all set up and we have to
live with this. let this go. I don’t care.

if I use iphone, I can read grade two if I read books, no problems. and if I
use online bank, I use nemeth, no problem. but it says 2016, then that is it.
we an’t stop them.

look a t public schools for parents to choose. when they send deaf kids to
public schools not to schools for deaf, the parents sign papers for all
interpreters to use see (signed exact english) not asl as they want kids to use
see to use proper english comprehsion for writing. I understand this.

same idea for public schools, many teachers don’t know braille, they use speech
output for blind kids to use computer, the teachers listen what blind read. if
blind choose grade two, techers can’t understand codes, then teachers would
prefer ueb same with parents and tehers use see. hope this helps you.

Not sure if it was the network but switching on the smart beetle first did the
trick.

Good luck. I hope things will get smoother once Apple releases the driver.

Re: apple music question

2015-09-08 Thread Brett
Hi Billy,

To see only your offline music, tap the "My music" tab at the bottom right of
the window. Then tap the "Category" button in the middle of the window. This
will bring up a dialog, near the bottom is an option to show only music stored
offline on your device. Make sure this ontion is ticked and you will be good to
go.

Hope this helps,

Possible good news on the audible update

2015-09-08 Thread Mary Otten
I have been messing with the new updated audible app. I have opened it and
closed it and switched from cloud to device and back and refresh the cloud. I
have activated the delete button and deactivate. So far, I am not seeing the
missing books problem. so perhaps they did actually fix it. I am withholding
judgment. Because we have all been burned by this app before. Let's see what
others see.

Re: eBay 4.0 and accessibility

2015-09-08 Thread Mary Otten
I don't have an answer to your question, but I am interested in the app, as
opposed to the website. When I use eBay, which is admittedly only for deals,
like the iTunes one yesterday, I follow a link to the website, do the minimum,
and get out. What does the app offer that the website does not? Or is it just
easier to use? That is, assuming this new version is in fact accessible.

RE: Changing the look of the music app under 8.4 -- is it possible?

At 11:44 AM 9/8/2015, you wrote:

doubt Apple will discontinue Apple Music again.
Anyhow, there is a very simple solution, just go to Settings and Music
and turn off the very first option, the one where it says "Show
Apple Music". Once off your music app should look like
before.
Also, if you do like Apple Music but you don't care for this connect
thing, you can go to Settings, General, Restrictions. Turn on
restrictions and when asked enter a 4-digit passcode you won't forget.
Then Turn off Apple Music Connect and the Connect tab in the music app
will disappear and be replaced with the familiar Playlists app.

Re: sports scores update

2015-09-08 Thread Scott Dollar
Hi,

I do not think so as tune in radio. The tune in radio is not helpful for a
profoundly deaf to listen to the tune in radio. The reason is that it has no
much hearing available. That is why it is more easier to use with the braille
display.

Hope this is helpful.

Respectful,

Scott

Bard Is Making Progress

2015-09-08 Thread Arnold Schmidt
At the moment, I can log in via my pc, but only partially, using the app on my
iPhone. I did not try it, using Safari on my phone, but it probably would
work, since Internet Explorer can access it. Using IE, I went through the
books that had been added since I last was able to log in, and added a few to
my wish list. I then went to my phone app, accessed the wish list, and
downloaded one of them. As the time of this message, the browse bard section
in the phone app still does not work. Let's hope BARD continues to make
progress toward becoming fully functional.

You could also use a file sharing program. The major wireless
providers prohibit the use of file sharing technology as part of their

Hi Billy,

To see only your offline music, tap the "My music" tab at the bottom right
of the window. Then tap the "Category" button in the middle of the window.
This will bring up a dialog, near the bottom is an option to show only music
stored offline on your device. Make sure this ontion is ticked and you will
be good to go.

Hope this helps,

I do not think so as tune in radio. The tune in radio is not helpful for a
profoundly deaf to listen to the tune in radio. The reason is that it has no
much hearing available. That is why it is more easier to use with the braille

Hope this is helpful.

Now as far as tune in radio working with a braille display I am not sure if it

Unable to pair Smart Beetle to my iPhone 5S running iOS 8.4.1

2015-09-08 Thread Jared
I just got a smart beetle and it will not pair with my iPhone 5S running
iOS 8.4.1. When it's in pairing brl mode my computer can see it but my
phone can not. It pairs fine as a bluetooth keyboard. When I go into
voiceover, braille, it just sits there searching. any thoughts?

Re: Changing the look of the music app under 8.4 -- is it possible?

2015-09-08 Thread Cheryl LeFurgey
I thought turning off apple music just took it out of the tab order/layout?
Like someone else said, I would love to have my playlist, artists, and
songs tabs back, along with the more option, which could maybe hide
the connect/radio option for those of us who wouldn't use either.
Also, all apple would have to do is create a setting under music
labeled something like show classic view, and that could put back the
tabs some of us want.

2015-09-08 Thread Kimber Gardner
Thanks for the tip on getting rid of the connect tab. But turning off
show apple music didn't make much difference in the appearance of the
app overall. I still have the tabs at the bottom set to my music,
playlists and radio. Is there a way to change those?

Subject: Re: What is the best external battery for iPhone 6 and 6+?

I think that’s kind of like asking if a Ford is better than a Chevy, or a truck
is better than a sports car. i think that like a lot of things, it comes down
to how you use your device. If you spend a lot of time away from AC power, take
camping trips, etc. you may opt for a high capacity external battery. If you
just want something to give you that little extra kick to get you through the
day, and you will be returning home or to a hotel in the evening, you may opt
for a smaller battery or even one of those cases with a built in battery.
Remember that generally the higher the capacity, the bigger and heavier the
battery will be. Many have found that the larger battery on the 6 plus is
enough to get them through the day. Remember that heavy use of a GPS system,
or streaming content over the cellular network will drain the battery fast. if
you do most of your streaming at home with WIFI there will be less battery
drain.

Hello folks,

Do you recommend a good powerful, yet not extremely pricy external battery for
the six and six plus?

eBay 4.0 and accessibility

2015-09-08 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

So it looks as though there’s a major eBay update in the app store.

Has anyone tried it out and did they encounter any Voiceover issues? Thought
I’d ask before taking the plunge and finding out that along with its new
streamlined interface and whatever enhancements may have been included,
something accessibility related may have gotten broken as has happened in
the past with other apps.

Thanks,

Re: Unable to pair Smart Beetle to my iPhone 5S running iOS 8.4.1

2015-09-08 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

Were you made aware when purchasing SmartBeetle that for now you have to change
the name of the serial bluetooth to BrailleSense on SmartBeetle itself to pair
it? It’s because Apple has not yet implemented SmartBeetle driver so it has to
pretend to be BrailleSense. The instructions on how to do this are enclosed on
a Braille card with the Braille display itself. If you can’t find them, give
me a shout and I will try and find the instructions for you. They can also be
found on HIMS website.

Are there other recommendations you'd like to make for toggle on or off under

You can upgrade and, of course, if you want iOS 9 and going forward you will
also deal with this since I doubt Apple will discontinue Apple Music again.

Anyhow, there is a very simple solution, just go to Settings and Music and turn
off the very first option, the one where it says "Show Apple Music". Once off
your music app should look like before.

Also, if you do like Apple Music but you don't care for this connect thing, you
can go to Settings, General, Restrictions. Turn on restrictions and when asked
enter a 4-digit passcode you won't forget. Then Turn off Apple Music Connect
and the Connect tab in the music app will disappear and be replaced with the
familiar Playlists app.

Take care,
Sieghard
