I’m glad to hear that it is working for you.

One note about the heading mark up, in html code, heading level 1 is always a 
large font, I think either 18 or 24 point font.  Then heading level 2 is 
slightly smaller and so on down to heading level 6.

If you want heading level one you put just one number sign in front of the line 
of text.

If you want heading level 2, you put 2 number signs, and so on.

So, you have some control over how large the font is and the ability to set 
major headings at level 1 and sub headings at level 2, etc.

 

I have no vision, so I can’t comment on the word finder screen.

Thanks so much for sticking with me on this issue.

 

I exported my plain text document containing the five emails using Writer after 
first placing a pound/number sign on the first line of each email using 
Microsoft Word. Writer did recognize those pound/number signs for marking those 
lines as headings in my exported html document. When I opened this html 
document in Dropbox, I was able to easily swipe among the emails after placing 
my rotor on headings. I also liked the way Dropbox presented the exported html 
file with the heading lines in a larger font and the rest of it laid out as it 
would be when viewing with a word processor.

 

I do have one final comment about Writer. When I execute the word finder 
function, the screen presentation appears to be messed up. A horizontal menu 
bar appears in the upper right corner of the screen with the options to select 
definitions, phonetic search, and meaning search but below this bar where the 
document is displayed, it only appears in a vertical strip down about the left 
third of the screen. The other half to two thirds of the vertical screen below 
the menu bar is blank. The hide word finder button which is used to close out 
of this function is about an inch from the top of my phone to the left of 
center of the screen because of this messed up presentation. This is mainly 
just an inconvenience as I don't use my limited vision to work with Writer but 
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this same issue and the 
placement of the hide word finder button which was a bit of a mess the first 
time I encountered it.

 

I am running Writer 1.3.0 which I don't think is the absolute latest version 
which I think was recently upgraded to support iOS 9. Since I'm still running 
iOS 8.3, I did not bother to upgrade to this latest version.

Well, I don’t think Writer works that way.

I’ve tried a few times to use the rotor set to headings and it doesn’t seem to 
work.

 

But, if you double tap on show outline, and use the cursor buttons within 
Writer, you can more easily navigate the document.

 

You could export as html and put the file somewhere that you would be able to 
double tap on it so it opens in Safari where the rotor headings would work.

I've copied the text of five separate emails into a Word document and I want to 
mark the first line of each email so that when I open the file in Writer or 
wherever, putting the rotor on headings and doing a single finger swipe up and 
down will jump to the first line of each message.

 

Anna had said I could place a number sign at the beginning of the first line of 
each of these messages and Writer would treat each of those lines as a level 1 
heading. Two number signs would mark the line as a level 2 heading and so 
forth. 

 

I just want to ensure that I mark the number sign correctly and save the file 
so that when I open it with Writer or Dropbox or whatever, that the rotor 
headings function does what I want.

passwords for apps

Something I am still confused about…  iCloud Keychain & onePassword, will 
either of these automatically log me into iOS apps?  Not via Safari, but by the 
actual apps.

It does not look like iCloud Keychain does this.

This is how I set up my Sports Scores and Alerts notifications using version
3.2 of the app which might be a couple of versions old. I am still using iOS
8.3 and am not a fan of upgrading apps that are working for me.

 

1.  I first set up my favorite teams. It's been a while since I did this
but I think you do it by choosing the sports category from the top line
menu, e.g., MLB,  NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA, etc. Depending on which you select, a
list of teams or conferences will be placed on the next screen.
2.  You may need to drill down further to get an actual list of teams
depending on the category selected. For example, the NCAA top menu tab will
open a list of the various NCAA football conferences which you must pick and
open to get a list of the teams in that conference.
3.  Ultimately, you'll get to a list of teams and to the left of each
one in the list will be a control labeled either empty star or filled star
to indicate a marked favorite. This control is a toggle so double tapping it
will switch between filled and empty.
4.  After marking all your favorite teams, select favorite teams at the
far left of the top line menu. Select teams on the bottom line menu which is
the second item from the left after games. I found this interplay between
the top line and bottom line menus a bit confusing at first but you soon get
used to it.
5.  Now, with your favorite teams listed on the screen, placing focus on
one and double tapping the screen will open the screen of alert
notifications you can select for that team. Numerous choices exist but I
pretty much limit mine to game completed. With this selection, I get a
notification when the marked teams complete a game with the score of that
game.

 

I find the app very easy to use and I had no problem paying the $2.99 for
180 days of unlimited alerts or the $3.99 charge for ad removal.

 

One thing I will mention is that the top line and bottom line menus each
have two pages and you can swipe between them using a 3-finger left and
right swipe. On some screens, a multi-page menu will have a left arrow or a
right arrow at the left or right, respectively, of the menu and you need to
place focus on it and double tap to move accordingly.

A Question To Those Running iOS 9.02 on an iPhone 5 S Syncing with iTunes for Windows

trouble with twitterific

Hello

1.  When I open the app and I am on the home screen, I am at some random date 
that is far away.  Sometimes this date is always the same place as last time 
even though I have already read earlier dates.

2. I can’t flick through the tweets. VO just gets stuck and won’t say anything.

3. Also, Vo just seems to get stuck and won’t work at all. Then i have to close 
the app and start over again.

4. Things just seem very unstable and quirky overall.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, need to uninstall and re-install 
the app, or if these are problems everyone else is having.  I’d appreciate any 
info on my problems. I am running iOS 8.4 and I was having these issues before 
any updates that twitterific did for iOS 9.

Nor does 1Password. Most apps now support touch ID to quickly log in, 
but of course they only work on supported devices like the iPhone 5s and 
Touch ID must be set up in order for it to work with these apps.

I can confirm this as well. When my kids get an iTunes gift card, they go into 
the iTunes app on their device and apply the credit to their iCloud account. My 
credit card is not billed unless they have spent all of their iTunes gift card 
credit. :)

With Call audio routing, the audio of incoming calls can be automatically 
routed to a speaker phone or headset instead of   the iPhone receiver. 

I suppose it's in Accessibility because  you also have the option of routing

complained that when she uses her phone with a pair of Beats Studio Wireless 
bluetooth headphones, call audio is always routed to the iPhone speaker.  At

Settings > General >  Accessibility. So I searched high and low and finally 
set up an appointment at the Genius bar. The Apple rep couldn't figure it 
out, and he exchanged her phone for a new one.  Well anyhow, the new phone 
had the same problem, and my partner at work told me about Call Audio 
Routing, which we set to Bluetooth headphones.  When was this feature 
introduced, and why was it placed under Accessibility?  I suspect that had 
that setting been placed elsewhere, the Apple guy would have known about it 
and we could have been out of the Genius Bar within minutes.

Well, recently, Yahoo must've made some changes. The scores are not right 
automatically by Siri anymore. It only works if you ask for one score. But if 
you ask for a schedule for multiples games, it will not be read automatically. 
Your timing was great to come up with this new app. I think I'm going to use 
that instead. By the way, I contacted the excess ability group and they could 
reproduce the problem I was having with Siri and scores.

AccessNote problem

Hello

I tryed to contact the support e-mail in the documentation of AccessNote 
from AFB without success; so I someone here can help me.


When trying to open a "new note" in AccessNote most of the times I get 
thrown out of the App and back in the homescreen of the iPhone.


I already tryed with closing all apps an restarting the phone, deleting 
and reinstalling the app several times. Reinstalling helps for the first 
few times.


I never get thrown out when opening an existing file. Sometimes it helps 
when I open first an existing file and then open a new file.


Could it have to do with the keyboard that is selectet? I am using Swiss 
German keyboard.

Blind fold bowling is a nice game. I have contacted the developer, and I have 
gotten a response from him. When playing against the computer, in “single 
finger mode”, it is impossible to win. Smiles, the computer never misses a 
spare shot. No matter what pins are left, and no matter how bit the split, the 
computer will convert the shot every time  smiles! I also ask if the scores 
could be reviewed during the game.

No. Two player mode actually allows you and another person to take turns 
by sharing your iPhone. Game Centre support is not with us yet.

IOS 9 has been my worst experience with any version of IOS. I've
been using IOS since IOS 5 on my iPhone 4S. IOS 8 was problematic,
but I considered it's bugs to be mostly inconveniences. With IOS
9, VoiceOver hangs if I answer a call while using my ear buds. I
have to do a hard reset of my iPhone to recover. The only work
around I have so far is to unplug my ear buds before answering a
call. For the first time ever, I've had to give my wife two other
numbers where she can reach me in case I'm having trouble with my
iPhone.

I also have the problem where VoiceOver will hang for close to a
minute every time I reply to an email message.

I know not everyone is seeing these bugs, but sending email from
my iPhone and being able to receive calls are two things I expect
from my smart phone, so these two bugs are particularly
frustrating for me. In hind sight, this is one upgrade I wish I'd
waited on.

I'm glad to hear that it is working for you.

One note about the heading mark up, in html code, heading level 1 is always
a large font, I think either 18 or 24 point font.  Then heading level 2 is
slightly smaller and so on down to heading level 6.

If you want heading level one you put just one number sign in front of the
line of text.

If you want heading level 2, you put 2 number signs, and so on.

So, you have some control over how large the font is and the ability to set
major headings at level 1 and sub headings at level 2, etc.

 

I have no vision, so I can't comment on the word finder screen.

Thanks so much for sticking with me on this issue.

 

I exported my plain text document containing the five emails using Writer
after first placing a pound/number sign on the first line of each email
using Microsoft Word. Writer did recognize those pound/number signs for
marking those lines as headings in my exported html document. When I opened
this html document in Dropbox, I was able to easily swipe among the emails
after placing my rotor on headings. I also liked the way Dropbox presented
the exported html file with the heading lines in a larger font and the rest
of it laid out as it would be when viewing with a word processor.

 

I do have one final comment about Writer. When I execute the word finder
function, the screen presentation appears to be messed up. A horizontal menu
bar appears in the upper right corner of the screen with the options to
select definitions, phonetic search, and meaning search but below this bar
where the document is displayed, it only appears in a vertical strip down
about the left third of the screen. The other half to two thirds of the
vertical screen below the menu bar is blank. The hide word finder button
which is used to close out of this function is about an inch from the top of
my phone to the left of center of the screen because of this messed up
presentation. This is mainly just an inconvenience as I don't use my limited
vision to work with Writer but I was wondering if anyone else is
experiencing this same issue and the placement of the hide word finder
button which was a bit of a mess the first time I encountered it.

 

I am running Writer 1.3.0 which I don't think is the absolute latest version
which I think was recently upgraded to support iOS 9. Since I'm still
running iOS 8.3, I did not bother to upgrade to this latest version.

Well, I don't think Writer works that way.

I've tried a few times to use the rotor set to headings and it doesn't seem
to work.

 

But, if you double tap on show outline, and use the cursor buttons within
Writer, you can more easily navigate the document.

 

You could export as html and put the file somewhere that you would be able
to double tap on it so it opens in Safari where the rotor headings would
work.

I've copied the text of five separate emails into a Word document and I want
to mark the first line of each email so that when I open the file in Writer
or wherever, putting the rotor on headings and doing a single finger swipe
up and down will jump to the first line of each message.

 

Anna had said I could place a number sign at the beginning of the first line
of each of these messages and Writer would treat each of those lines as a
level 1 heading. Two number signs would mark the line as a level 2 heading
and so forth. 

 

I just want to ensure that I mark the number sign correctly and save the
file so that when I open it with Writer or Dropbox or whatever, that the
rotor headings function does what I want.

I play single finger mode with the computer just fine and I can beat the 
computer. Also, to the person that said she was having problems posting scores 
to Twitter, I'm having the same problem, although my problem is that it thinks

There's a growing number of apps that support logging in via 1Password. Your 
credentials for that app have to already be in 1Password, and it's not really 
automatic, though it can take less time than typing in your credentials; you 
have to hit a button in the login screen of the app to bring up1Password, type 
in your master password (or use touch ID if you have that set up), and tap the 
correct login item, but after that, you only have to hit the login button, and 
you're logged into that app.

a strange issue

Hello, so, I have just typed in a URL into safari. The URL is the DNS address 
of my network, so something like 192.168.1.xxx. But, the first link on the page 
is a help link, followed by a table. VO only reads help and table start. How 
can I get it to read the whole page, please?

I have had to put my password in for the past few days.  It starts by 
saying that it is contacting Twitter.  Today, I went through the sign in 
process, and it dumped me to Safari.  I then clicked on a link asking me if 
I wanted to use Twitterific.

You don't, but updates will often take a while. I think they only happen when 
the phone is charging, but I could be wrong. Either way, they aren't checked 
for very often, so it's easy to open the App Store and kick off an update check 
well ahead of when iOS was going to do it. This makes it look like automatic 
updates aren't happening, but they are, just less often than manual ones might 
make it appear.

Hi Tracy,

Double tap the Settings tab at the bottom right of the screen. In Settings go 
to Passcode lock. You will have to create a passcode as a backup just as in 
iOS, then you can enable Touch Id.
OneNote now also supports Touch Id, so does the authenticator app Authy and I 
was very happy to read in the What's New section of an update to the Scotia 
Bank app (Canada only) that you can now enable Touch Id to sign in when you 
open the app. This makes this banking app so much more better because signing 
in is a snap and I can quickly check my balances, pay a bill, do a transfer etc.

Well, I don’t think Writer works that way.

I’ve tried a few times to use the rotor set to headings and it doesn’t seem to 
work.

 

But, if you double tap on show outline, and use the cursor buttons within 
Writer, you can more easily navigate the document.

 

You could export as html and put the file somewhere that you would be able to 
double tap on it so it opens in Safari where the rotor headings would work.

I've copied the text of five separate emails into a Word document and I want to 
mark the first line of each email so that when I open the file in Writer or 
wherever, putting the rotor on headings and doing a single finger swipe up and 
down will jump to the first line of each message.

 

Anna had said I could place a number sign at the beginning of the first line of 
each of these messages and Writer would treat each of those lines as a level 1 
heading. Two number signs would mark the line as a level 2 heading and so 
forth. 

 

I just want to ensure that I mark the number sign correctly and save the file 
so that when I open it with Writer or Dropbox or whatever, that the rotor 
headings function does what I want.

Now, most of the time I have done the markup in Writer, so entering the number

I find using a bluetooth keyboard because that is easier.

One option would be to use Voice Dream Writer on your phone. Then you would 
save the document as text and put a single number sign/hash symbol, whatever 
you want to call it, before any line that you wanted to be level 1, two at the 
beginning of any line you want to be level 2, etc. Voice dream Writer has 
commands to move to the next and prior headings.

Remapping the insert key on the Mac to use Jaws in a virtual machine - super-duper solution

Dear listers

I am using Windows in a virtual machine on two Macs. On my Mini I’m using 
VMWare Fusion and on my Air it’s Oracle’s Virtual Box (not at all VO accessible 
so I wouldn’t recommend it but work chose it because it’s free so hey-ho) and 
in both cases it’s impossible to use the laptop layout for Jaws where the Caps 
lock key is used instead of the Insert key as the host OS (Mac OS X) doesn’t 
let it pass through even if you set the Caps lock to do nothing in the Mac OS X 
system preferences. 

As the Mac keyboard has no Insert key then you are stuffed. I did some Googling 
and found out that you need to go with a key remapping utility to create an 
Insert key where there is none.

You may be thinking that this sounds complicated but in fact it’s super-easy. 
Just download a free Windows utility called Sharpkeys and install it and it has 
an extremely simple and totally accessible interface which lets you specify a 
key from a list (the one you want to be the Insert key) and then select the 
Insert key from a second list (it’s listed under special keys) and click the 
button that rewrites the registry, reboot Windows and hey-presto, that key now 
works as the Insert modifier for Jaws.

I’ve remapped F1 to be Insert and also ] so now I have one on each side so I 
don’t have to do awkward stretches to do the various Jaws keystroke 
combinations. You don’t have to use these keys of course – just take your pick.

For info I’ve left the Jaws keyboard layout to desktop so as not to complicate 
things further.

You can get Sharpkeys from http://sharpkeys.codeplex.com/ and it’s totally free.

For info when using VoiceOver I also happen to favour using quick nav mode to 
having to press VO+other keys wherever possible and so I prefer to quickly 
toggle quick nav on and off with the left + right arrow keys to ‘switch’ the 
arrow keys between screen readers if you get what I mean. To be clear, with 
quick nav toggled off, the arrow keys are used by Windows (when the VM app has 
focus of course) and with a press of the left+right arrow keys you are 
instantly using quick nav and VO even though you are still focused on the VM. 

Doing the above means you can use a Mac laptop keyboard, or the standard Apple 
Bluetooth keyboard, without a numberpad and without difficulty in both OSs and 
with both screen readers simultaneously running in each. With VMWare Fusion you 
can even be really adventurous and run it in ‘Unity’ mode and have every 
Windows app open in a separate Mac app window making them feel like Mac apps 
but running Jaws in each. That really feels futuristic to me.

As a final note I favour the Vocalizer voices for both VO and Jaws and happen 
to have Ava set up on both at exactly the same volume, speed and intonation and 
so it really feels like I have one screen reader across both OSs, and driving 
them with different keystrokes somehow doesn’t seem to break that impression 
for me. Best of both worlds.

If someone wanted to do a podcast on this I think it would be really useful for 
bods in a similar position. I know that person could be me but I’m sure others 
would do a better job. Perhaps Jonathan might consider it for a future FSCast.

Thanks so much for sticking with me on this issue.

 

I exported my plain text document containing the five emails using Writer
after first placing a pound/number sign on the first line of each email
using Microsoft Word. Writer did recognize those pound/number signs for
marking those lines as headings in my exported html document. When I opened
this html document in Dropbox, I was able to easily swipe among the emails
after placing my rotor on headings. I also liked the way Dropbox presented
the exported html file with the heading lines in a larger font and the rest
of it laid out as it would be when viewing with a word processor.

 

I do have one final comment about Writer. When I execute the word finder
function, the screen presentation appears to be messed up. A horizontal menu
bar appears in the upper right corner of the screen with the options to
select definitions, phonetic search, and meaning search but below this bar
where the document is displayed, it only appears in a vertical strip down
about the left third of the screen. The other half to two thirds of the
vertical screen below the menu bar is blank. The hide word finder button
which is used to close out of this function is about an inch from the top of
my phone to the left of center of the screen because of this messed up
presentation. This is mainly just an inconvenience as I don't use my limited
vision to work with Writer but I was wondering if anyone else is
experiencing this same issue and the placement of the hide word finder
button which was a bit of a mess the first time I encountered it.

 

I am running Writer 1.3.0 which I don't think is the absolute latest version
which I think was recently upgraded to support iOS 9. Since I'm still
running iOS 8.3, I did not bother to upgrade to this latest version.

Well, I don't think Writer works that way.

I've tried a few times to use the rotor set to headings and it doesn't seem
to work.

 

But, if you double tap on show outline, and use the cursor buttons within
Writer, you can more easily navigate the document.

 

You could export as html and put the file somewhere that you would be able
to double tap on it so it opens in Safari where the rotor headings would
work.

I've copied the text of five separate emails into a Word document and I want
to mark the first line of each email so that when I open the file in Writer
or wherever, putting the rotor on headings and doing a single finger swipe
up and down will jump to the first line of each message.

 

Anna had said I could place a number sign at the beginning of the first line
of each of these messages and Writer would treat each of those lines as a
level 1 heading. Two number signs would mark the line as a level 2 heading
and so forth. 

 

I just want to ensure that I mark the number sign correctly and save the
file so that when I open it with Writer or Dropbox or whatever, that the
rotor headings function does what I want.

But, you can export to several different formats.

Now, most of the time I have done the markup in Writer, so entering the
number signs before the headings, etc.

I find using a bluetooth keyboard because that is easier.

Maybe it would be helpful if you explained more about what you are trying to
accomplish.

Hello all,
Since updating to iOS nine, I have not been able to go between two phone calls. 
It used to be very much possible and I OS 8, because there were buttons that 
say merge calls or or take one call I don't remember the correct terminology. 
However now when I tap with two fingers, I don't successfully go to the other 
call. And neither do I see those buttons. Has anyone else had this phenomena? 
If so what did you do? I have the iPhone 6. Thank you
