Re: How many use VO Braille Screen Input?

2016-01-25 Thread paras shah
Yes, braille screen input is a great feature. There are some places where
it does not work. If you are in a multi-line edit field it will not let you
go to the next line. For the most part, I use it as my input method.
It is great for writing short emails.
Thanks!

Hi,

In a multi-line edit field, you can start a new line with iOS braille by doing
a two finger swipe right.

Hope this helps,

RE: A STRANGE AND INFURIATING PROBLEM WITH MY 6SHH

2016-01-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Replace your earphones and the problem will go away. I had this happen to me a
few times whenever my Apple Earpods were on their last legs so to speak and
there was some sort of short probably in the remote. I was on a flight once
back from the Philippines and exactly what you described happened with respect
to my audio book would start playing without me touching anything (or it would
stop) etc. I got a new set of Earpods and all was fine.

Subject: A STRANGE AND INFURIATING PROBLEM WITH MY 6SHH

Hi all,

This is somewhat complex but I'll try to keep facts succinct. ...

To give you some background, I recently upgraded to iOS9.2.1 and noticed a
problem after this. Howver, at about the same time I also had problems
inserting an iStick, which I succeeded in doing eventually. We also have some
strange interference with our TV which we think is posssibly an old pair of
speakers which need replacing. There's also some electronic gadgetry a short
distance from our sitting-room window which does not belong to us but we
sometimes wonder if this has caused problems.

My problem pnly occurs when using headphones, which I do most of the time as
Mike is writing nearby at the same time. Often Siri just chimes in, being
absolutely convinced that I really do want his help! (In desperation I even
turned him off, reset all connections and then rebooted, being sure to restrict
Siri so that I had to tap the Home button to ask for his attention. He now does
not respond to "Hey Siri" so I'm happy I've done this correctly.

However, in the sittingroom with Apple headphones the problem continues. My
music also starts playing without me wanting it.

To add to the complications, we have a set of speakers for our TV in the
sittingroom that are ageing and are a little faulty and there's also some
electrical contraption not too far from the window which sometimes appears to
interfere with our equipment.

I am thinking that I possibly could have damaged the sockets, or maybe the
problem has been caused by my volume being too loud. I have adjusted this,
since some were having problems with the volume settings after an iOS update a
little while back and I realise this could create a problem. Finally, there's
also a setting or two I recently altered, so I'll now try to set those once
again as before. One was the 3D Touch setting which I recently changed to its
lowest, rather than the set level in the middle.

I really don't know how to solve this one. I could go to the Apple Store once I
have less of a cold and can fit it in, but I'm not sure whether they can really
track this one down.

Does anyone have recommendations as to what I should do now, please?

Apologies for this ramble and the amount of information I felt was needed.
Thanks to those who have read all the way through! I do appreciate this and now
hope for some useful replies!

Re: MBraille Suggestion, was Re: How many use VO Braille Screen Input?

2016-01-25 Thread Brett
Wow! I am so glad your MBraille experience is different to mine. I bought it
before iOS braille was introduced and as a standalone app it works well and
does have more editing features than iOS braille, but as a third-party
keyboard, it is the buggiest program I have purchased. There is absolutely no
support from the author at all.

For me the three finger swipe right to dismiss the MBraille keyboard never
works. This is replicatable 100 percent of the time. Seriously, if your
intrested in braille, learn to use the iOS keyboard and don't waist your money
on purchasing bugs. I have received better support from apps that were free.

Cheers, Brett.

I already had MBraille before the Apple Braille keyboard was released, so I
have not taken the time to learn to use the Apple
keyboard very well. I find it to be not quite as refined as is MBraille,
although that very well could be due to operator
incompetence. Also, it does not have the word processing ability of
MBraille. If I want to edit anything, I have to use the
regular Apple keyboard editing features, which are not as easy for me to use as
those in MBraille.

A few months ago, I purchased the option to use MBraille as a third-party
keyboard. At the time, it didn't seem to work very well
for me as a third-party keyboard, so I forgot about it until last weekend when,
for some reason which I do not remember now, I
decided to try it again. I deleted that emogey keyboard which I never used,
and enabled MBraille as a third-party keyboard. It
works well. Now, when I am in a text field, I can tap the next keyboard button,
and although the transition to MBraille is
occasionally a bit flakey, more often than not, it goes right into MBraille. I
write my text, am enable to correct any errors or do
any word processing I wish to do with MBraille. Then, I Place my fingers onto
the keyboard as if I were going to write dots 4-5-6,
and do a three-finger swipe right (being in landscape mode, I mean a
three-finger swipe toward the home button.) It then inserts my
text into the text field, and I am back in the regular keyboard. No more

Yes, I do use both the MBraille and the Apple supplied on-board keyboard. I
love MBraille a lot, in fact most days. I think it is
more accurate than the Apple on-board keyboard. Maybe, though, that is a user
perspective and the errors could be mine!

I am not too keen on using it as an extra keyboard, because it's a bit tricky
to use it in this way, because of the other
keyboards that are already installed. I wish it could be on the rotor! Anyway,
I quite often use the old method too, so I can open
the app and then cut and paste accordingly, because in some ways it is easier
and I like it better! What I do like is to have proper
key clicks when typing. I'm afraid this is one of the disappointments of the
Braille app by Apple which you can include on the
rotor. By the way, I use the "away mode" " because it's the only thing that
really works for me. I can't imagine becoming proficient
with anything other than this.

Out of curiosity, how many use VO Braille screen input, and in which

In order to hang up the call I have to reset the phone. There probably is

Re: Kindle once more

2016-01-25 Thread Russ Kiehne
Here is how I buy Kindle books on my Ios device:

from the book Kindle for iOS Accessibility Gestures - Quick Reference Guide.epub

You can shop from the Kindle Store using the Safari browser and deliver Kindle
titles to the Kindle reading app on your iPad, Phone, or iPod touch. Your
device must be connected to a wireless or data network in order to download
Kindle content to your Kindle reading app.
>From the Safari browser, visit the Kindle Store website:
· iPad: www.amazon.com/ipadkindlestore
· iPhone or iPad touch: www.amazon.com/kindlemobilestore

1. Sign in to the Kindle Store with the same Amazon account you used when
you registered the Kindle reading app. Browse for Kindle titles you want to
read, and then tap to view the product detail page.
2. To send the Kindle title to your device, from the Send wirelessly to
drop-down menu, select your device. If you don't see your device, make sure you
signed in with the Amazon account registered to your iPad, iPhone, or iPod
touch.
3. Tip: Tap Try a Sample to download the beginning of a book for free.
4. After you purchase content, your titles are delivered to the Kindle
app on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Check your cloud tab.

He does not have to buy a Kindle. He can get the free Kindle app from the app
store accessed on his iPhone. He downloads that and signs in with his Amazon
account credentials, then he can buy books on the web. He cannot buy them in
the Kindle app, because Apple wants a big cut of the price of books. So Amazon
does not let iPhone app users buy books from within the app can't blame them
very much for not wanting to give Apple 30% of the cost of the book. But, he
buys the book on the web, and right there on the website, he tells Amazon to
send the book to his iPhone Kindle app, and it shows up. No fuss no Mas.

Thank you very much for getting back to me, I just checked on the App Store,

Thank you for your help and your assistance. Have a great day I will let you,

RE: Workaround to disable frequent IOS notifications

2016-01-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Michelle and Kimber,

I agree that updating may at times not be what you want especially if you are
on a previous major version and it is known that the new version has bugs you
don’t care to deal with. However, in the case of a double dot update, e.g. from
9.2 to 9.2.1 the update is as you said primarily a security update and a fairly
small one at that. I think on my phone it was 46 Mb and the download happened
in less than a minute or so, then it took maybe 5 minutes for the update to
install (on an older device this could be a bit longer). Considering the time
you spent writing the emails and now trying a few suggestions to try and get
rid of the notifications you could have easily done this update and especially
such small double dot updates really don’t need to be installed via iTunes.
Just force quit al apps and, if you want to do one more preparatory step, do a
reboot of your phone, then install the update and all will be good.

Regards,

Sieghard

I agree with what Kimber wrote. People have various reasons why they do not
always wish to immediately update their devices and the constant reminder to
update a device when you wish to postpone that installation can be annoying.
Thanks for the suggestions on how to deactivate the reminders. I will give them
a try.

Re: How many use VO Braille Screen Input?

2016-01-25 Thread Paul Hunt
Hello everybody.
I've tried it and haven't been very successful. Here are my questions.
1. How do I recalibrate?
2. What typing modes are available in the braille screen input mode?
3. What techniques helped you to become proficient? Thanks so much.

Basically what you do is you can either use your pointer or index finger and
your middle finger on one hand or each pointer finger on each hand and
basically walk your fingers on the screen as fast as you can and you will
hear your horse gallop Slow or fast, hope that helps

RE: HootSuite - anybody using this to post to social media?

2016-01-25 Thread Cristóbal
I used it many moons ago. When the 4S was the current iPhone and from what
I recall, I found it to be painfully slow with Voiceover and there were some
fileds/buttons that were either not at all accessible to VO or not labeled.
It was doable if you were patient, but I didn’t stick with it as I moved on to
moreaccessible apps at that time.

If you say the Voiceover user experience is good now, I may just give it
another spin.

Thanks, Kevin, Google My Business is just one aspect of a presence on the web
and it primarily helps with making sure a business is on Google Maps with
driving directions, contact information etc. This is, however, not necessarily
my problem. My issue is ranking on page 1 of Google search results for a
variety of products/searches people may use. This is a very complex topic and
going into details here is beyond the scope of an iPhone/iOS list and something
I am working on in a number of ways..

My post was specifically meant to see if others are using HootSuite for
whatever purpose it may be and whether they find it a useful tool that allows
them to be more efficient when posting to multiple social media accounts.

Sieghard

You'll want business.google.com (not G+)

Hi,

As the subject says, is anybody using the HootSuite service and app? The iOS
app seems pretty accessible and allows you to add Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram accounts and you can post to all of them at once. With Facebook you
can add your main Facebook account and you can also just add Facebook Pages
which in my case is what I did since for me this is hopefully going to make it
easier to manage social media posts of my business. I just hired a company to
do a bunch of SEO work on my store’s website and they told me that HootSuite
was a great way to maximize social media exposure.

oogle Plus is apparently going to be supported in the near future as well.

The HootSuite website is also fairly accessible although if you write a post
you have to then select to which of your connected accounts you want to post
and that part is a bit tricky. I will try to get in touch with them and ask if
they would be willing to consider improving accessibility of both the app and
website wherever possible.

The basic service is free and there is also a Pro version for $9.99 a month and
an Enterprise version which I didn’t check with respect to the cost since it
wouldn’t apply to myself and probably not to anybody on the list.

If there are users on the list I’d be interested to hear their experience and
how you use the app.

Best regards,

Sieghard

I agree with what Kimber wrote. People have various reasons why they do

Nearly everytime I use my Ipad, I have a popup notification asking if
I wish to update from ios 9.2 to 9.21. I contacted apple
accessibility who indicated there is no way to prevent these frequent
pop up notifications from appearing on the screen and that the reason
that this 9.21 notification appears so frequently is that it pertains
to a security issue. Has anyone found a workaround to disable these
popup notifications concerning ios updates? Thanks for any guidance.

When I am sharing an article or podcast and pull up the screen for sharing
options, what does it mean that, for example, "mail draggable"? Why would I
want to drag that somewhere as opposed to just tap my selection? Is this
to rearrange the icons on that screen?

Re: HootSuite - anybody using this to post to social media?

2016-01-25 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone
I have just tried it, having seen your post! Thanks! At least it did signed me
in to Facebook, unlike other apps! I am disappointed, though, that you can't
actually get your messages that way.

I have done one post, but I'm not sure whether I actually sent it or not. Can
you tell me exactly what do you do having written it, please! As you say, it is
not actually that good at that stage, but most buttons do seem to be labelled!
Does the post then disappear, having sent it, or what!

RE: VO mispronunciation

2016-01-25 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi. No, it is the native apple app. It is just the app name I seem to have
the problem with. When I go into the app and where the word calander
appears, it reads it correctly. If and when I use the app switcher, it
still gives me that weird title. It is strange it does it on my iPhone 6
and also on the iPhone 5c. It might be there is an incompatibility with
something else on the phone that I'm unaware of. Walter.

Where do you encounter this? Is it on the native Calendar app or when you

correctly. If this is a third party Calendar app then Voiceover will read
whatever the developer put in the accessibility label.

Hi guys. I have a curious problem, it in no way impacts on the function of
the phone but I don't understand why VO does what it does.

VO does not pronounce "calendar" properly. When I do a character by
character check, the spelling is correct but VO does not say it correctly.
What I hear is; and this is phonetic is "toy=lhp calanderkapp.$ and this
makes no sense. Does anybody know how to correct this, it isn't critical
but I'd rather change it if I could but first I need to know what causes the
problem. Walter.

How To Send SMS Messages From Windows 10 Computer to a Phone

Method 1 - Send Messages Through Email

Probably the simplest way to send messages from your computer to a
cell phone is through the email. To do so, just follow these instructions:

1. Open Windows 10 Mail App

2. Click on New Mail

3. Now just enter the number you want to send the text message
to and enter the code of your provider. Here are message codes of some
popular providers:

oAlltel: @message.alltel.com (or
@mms.alltelwireless.com   for picture

oSprint: @messaging.sprintpcs.com

oT-Mobile: @tmomail.net

oVerizon: @vtext.com (or @vzwpix.com

4. Write the message as a normal email and just hit Send

RE: VO mispronunciation

2016-01-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Where do you encounter this? Is it on the native Calendar app or when you come
across the word calendar elsewhere? On my old iPhone 5S, my new 6S Plus and on
my wife's iPhone 6 the calendar app is announced and pronounced correctly. If
this is a third party Calendar app then Voiceover will read whatever the
developer put in the accessibility label.

Hi guys. I have a curious problem, it in no way impacts on the function of the
phone but I don't understand why VO does what it does.

VO does not pronounce "calendar" properly. When I do a character by character
check, the spelling is correct but VO does not say it correctly.
What I hear is; and this is phonetic is "toy=lhp calanderkapp.$ and this makes
no sense. Does anybody know how to correct this, it isn't critical but I'd
rather change it if I could but first I need to know what causes the problem.

How To Send SMS Messages From Windows 10 Computer to a Phone

Method 1 - Send Messages Through Email

Probably the simplest way to send messages from your computer to a cell
phone is through the email. To do so, just follow these instructions:

1. Open Windows 10 Mail App

2. Click on New Mail

3. Now just enter the number you want to send the text message
to and enter the code of your provider. Here are message codes of some popular
providers:

oAlltel: @message.alltel.com (or
@mms.alltelwireless.com   for picture
messages)

oAT: @text.att.net

oSprint: @messaging.sprintpcs.com

oT-Mobile: @tmomail.net

oVerizon: @vtext.com (or @vzwpix.com
  for photos and video)

4. Write the message as a normal email and just hit Send

When your friend replies to your text message, you'll also get it in
your Mail inbox.

Method 2 - Send Message From A Carrier's website

A lot of mobile carriers offer you an option to send free SMS messages
from your computer for free. Depending on the carrier, you'll be able to send
text messages to other users of that carrier's services, or even users of other
networks. So just go to your carrier's website, log into your account, find the
option for texting, and send the text message from your computer.

X-Fi Sonic Carrier Stole the Thunder at CES 2016

2016-01-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
This does sound like an impressive setup and may be a real competitor to Sonos.
One thing I like is the fact this has so many different inputs from analogue to
HDMI and optical to Micro SD card slots, Bluetooth and NFC. It also has native
support for Airplay,Google Cast for audio, Miracast, Chromecast, DLNA and more
whereas I am not sure what Creative means by “More”.

They say it supports music services like Spotify, Pandora and, once again,
“More” so we’ll have to see if it has support for such a complete list as Sonos.

It would be interesting to know if it is still available at the $1,750 preorder
price which according to the announcement is only available for the first 200
orders. Considering how Creative said this was so popular at CES one would
think that they would have had 200 preorders in a day or two. $1,750 is about
the same as a Sonos Playbar, Sonos Sub and 2 Play 1 speakers set up as rear
speakers in a 5.1 surround setup so that isn’t too bad if it’s as good as they
say it is. The regular price of $5,000 however is of course a pretty big junk
of money and it really has to be something extremely special if it will indeed
sell for that much. Here now the forwarded email:

2016-01-25 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone
Yes, I do use both the MBraille and the Apple supplied on-board keyboard. I
love MBraille a lot, in fact most days. I think it is more accurate than the
Apple on-board keyboard. Maybe, though, that is a user perspective and the
errors could be mine!

I am not too keen on using it as an extra keyboard, because it's a bit tricky
to use it in this way, because of the other keyboards that are already
installed. I wish it could be on the rotor! Anyway, I quite often use the old
method too, so I can open the app and then cut and paste accordingly, because
in some ways it is easier and I like it better! What I do like is to have
proper key clicks when typing. I'm afraid this is one of the disappointments of
the Braille app by Apple which you can include on the rotor. By the way, I use
the "away mode" " because it's the only thing that really works for me. I can't
imagine becoming proficient with anything other than this.

If you have any further questions, do come back. I hope this is helpful! Carol P

Subject: issues with purchasing photo packages in tap tap see?

I seem to (yet again) be out of photos, so I am trying to buy any package, but
any time I do, I'm told that this item is currently being modified, and that
there's a purchasing error. This has rendered the app completely unuseable to
me. Is anyone else experiencing this?

A STRANGE AND INFURIATING PROBLEM WITH MY 6SHH

2016-01-25 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone

You got it. It is for rearranging the icons on that screen. Say, you always
want to use mail, then you could move it to be the first option.

Re: A STRANGE AND INFURIATING PROBLEM WITH MY 6SHH

2016-01-25 Thread englishrider91
Not to discount everything you said, but I wonder if the problem is with your
headphones. The Apple headphones I had lasted me quite a few years, but you
never know. I've had similar problems with my iPhone 4S and a set of Sony
earbuds with iPhone controls. I think my headset that has just started to go
bad, because I never get this problem without the headphones plugged in. A
scenario you might want to consider before thinking that your iPhone is going
nuts, or that electrical equipment is interfering with it.

Thanks,

Re: Workaround to disable frequent IOS notifications

2016-01-25 Thread englishrider91
I've been burned in the past by updating without backing up first, and I
preferred to back up via iTunes, so I'm going to wait for a little bit as well,
until I can do that. I've got some things going on at the moment, so upgrading
isn't a huge priority right now, but I'll do it in the next few days or so,
especially considering that it's a security update.

I seem to (yet again) be out of photos, so I am trying to buy any package,
but any time I do, I'm told that this item is currently being modified, and
that there's a purchasing error. This has rendered the app completely
unuseable to me. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hi.
I love the Braille Screen input option, especially because I can edit
as I go and understand what's happening. I don't have to worry about
whether I'm inadvertently inputting unwanted text. I use it when I'm
working with y iPod Touch away from my Braille display, tabletop mode,
uncontracted UEB.

ability of MBraille. If I want to edit anything, I have to use the regular
Apple keyboard editing features, which are not as easy for me to use as those
in MBraille.

A few months ago, I purchased the option to use MBraille as a third-party
keyboard. At the time, it didn't seem to work very well for me as a
third-party keyboard, so I forgot about it until last weekend when, for some
reason which I do not remember now, I decided to try it again. I deleted that
emogey keyboard which I never used, and enabled MBraille as a third-party
keyboard. It works well. Now, when I am in a text field, I can tap the next
keyboard button, and although the transition to MBraille is occasionally a bit
flakey, more often than not, it goes right into MBraille. I write my text, am
enable to correct any errors or do any word processing I wish to do with
MBraille. Then, I Place my fingers onto the keyboard as if I were going to
write dots 4-5-6, and do a three-finger swipe right (being in landscape mode, I
mean a three-finger swipe toward the home button.) It then inserts my text
into the text field, and I am back in the regular keyboard. No more copying
and pasting.

Out of curiosity, how many use VO Braille screen input, and in which

issues with pickers in facebook site on safari.

2016-01-25 Thread Mário Navarro

hi all.
some of you are having problems with the pickers popup display on safari
and at the following address?

www.m.facebook.com

for me, the pickers not work as they should in this site.
I am referring only on the pickers of feeds.
example:
every time I give a double tap on one of these pickers, the items are
displayed in the right bottom of the page.

I think this position is wrong.
the items had to be shown to the right of the picker, and not on the
bottom right page

what do you think about this.
I think is a bug.
the others work.

such as:
friend requests, messages and notifications.
these works fine.
here, the items are positioned to the right of the picker.
please tell me what you think
if you are having this problem, please report to apple ...
I will report this issue to Apple, but will be much better if all work
together ...

thanks.

cheers.

RE: X-Fi Sonic Carrier Stole the Thunder at CES 2016

2016-01-25 Thread Jim Ruby
Looks nice, but I am to vested in sonos right now and I always found at least
for my ears the one box solution for surround audio don’t quite do it for me. I
ope sonos would add more protocols and options to their boxes. I was thinking
about two new play5s, but still in the pondering stage.

 Creative X-Fi Sonic Carrier

“The demonstration of the Creative Sonic Carrier was a genuine revelation, the
likes of which I haven't experienced in ages. It excelled as both a
room-filling home theatre system and as an impressive implementation of Dolby
Atmos technology. Hard to believe that it was just the one box, plus subs.”

trying to pair the qfx bt 206 speaker system

2016-01-25 Thread Melissa Tucker

I got this from amazon for my apple tv 4th gin and my iphone 5s. It has an am
fm radio as well as bluetooth compatibility. When I see the name of the device
in bluetooth settings, it sets there like it's trying to pair, but I always get
a messageit was unable to pair. I can usually successfully pair devices to
iether my iphone or the apple tv. Not this time. I can't seem to find the
online manual on qfxusa.com which is the company that makes it. I will contact
them if I can't get it paired in a few days. Any suggestions?
