Buying the KNFB reader using a gift card

2016-07-18 Thread 'Simon w' via VIPhone
Hi, I managed to get the gift card, the volunteer that helped me managed to
help me redeem it, but now I cannot seem to buy the kNFB reader app it keeps
giving me the option to select a payment method and to reenter my Apple I D
password all the time and it keeps telling me that there's insufficient credit,
but I bought 145$ Canadian and the kNFB is 139.99 Canadian. Do I have to pay
tax on top of that?

RE: Looktel money reader and Looktel voiceover tutorial

2016-07-18 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,

Did you try going into purchased apps under App Store Updates and downloading
them from there?

Or, did you change the search to iPhone apps?

Since you are using an iPad, it could be they show up, but they are designed
for the iPhone.

Some times, for whatever reason, if you toggle the search to iPhone apps, you
can then download them.

They will work fine on the iPad.

HTH,

Richard

Re: Blind Square and Four Square

2016-07-18 Thread Wayne Merritt
The one big advantage with Blind Square and FourSquare is that you can
access menus from various restaurants and fast food places through
BlindSquare. That menu data is pulled directly from FourSquare from
what I understand. It can vary in quality, where with the Subway menu
I get a listing of all of their sandwiches, but with other
restaurants, the menus are very comprehensive. And some menus I've
pulled up in BlindSquare just list a few things. However, when I go to
other locations of the same restaurant I can get more of an actual
menu. Though you can "check in" to places with BlindSquare, that
functionality has been split off from the FourSquare app. FourSquare
is more about keeping up with where your friends/follwers are, whereas
Swarm is for checking in, in case anyone cares. Anyway, I've had
BlindSquare since January and haven't regretted the $30 cost.

Re: Apple Music question

2016-07-18 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hello. If you're subscribed to Apple Music, then I would do the
following: go into settings/music and turn Apple Music off and then
back on. Note that this will erase all of your playlists but your
music will still be in your library. If you want to start over
completely fresh, then that might be something you have to do with
iTunes. In that music settings screen, I think there is also a button
to use iCloud Music Library, which you can toggle off and then back
on. This may also erase the music you have stored there, or at least
disorganize any structure it had.

Good luck,
Wayne

Re: two-step verification or two-factor authentication

2016-07-18 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Vicky,

Thanks for sending this along. I had no idea Apple had added a new kind of
verification.

Best,
Anna

two-step verification or two-factor authentication

2016-07-18 Thread Vicky Collins
I've been using the two-step verification for my iPhones for well
over two years now, but I'm thinking to change to the two-factor
authentication made available in iOS 9. All of this seemed kind
of confusing to me; then, the recent thread on this subject had
me taking another look. And, since I'm off from work on vacation
for a good part of this week, I figure I will try and make the
switch. Here is a link to an article that seems to give a pretty
good explanation of the differences between the two forms of
security offered by Apple, as well as steps for setting up each.
I thought about posting the article on the list, but it is kind
of long, so I'll just provide the link:

RE: iTunes Gift card

2016-07-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And yes, if you buy three $50 gift cards you have to redeem each one. You can,
by the way, redeem them yourself using the camera. Just peal off the plastic
strip that covers the code, then when you go to redeem it tap to use the Camera
and then hold the gift card maybe 6 or 8 inches away from the camera and just
hold it for a while. The camera will recognize the barcode and if you check
your screen it should tell you that it successfully redeemed the card. I
usually get friends to pick up gift cards at Costco since quite often they
offer a pack of four $25 gift cards ($100) for $80. Last time I used the camera
to redeem the cards and it took all of a minute or two to redeem all four cards.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: iTunes Gift card

Hi, I managed to get the iTunes gift card, the volunteer that helped me managed
to help me redeem it, but now I cannot seem to buy the kNFB reader app it keeps
giving me the option to select a payment method and to reenter my Apple I D
password all the time and it keeps telling me that there's insufficient credit,
but I bought 145$ and the kNFB is 139.99.Hi, lets just say I am able to get the
card, and I get $140 worth for a gift card, how do I redeem that on the phone,
do I have to put each code in because I would assume that is at least 2 or 3
cards or so.

RE: iTunes Gift card

2016-07-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You are in Canada, correct? There is tax on apps, so if the app is $139.99 and
you are in Ontario you pay 13% HSt on top of the app price.
