RE: A question

2017-02-25 Thread Alan Lemly
Well, I'm a firm believer in correcting my own errors even if doing so points
out total idiocy on my part. I just realized that when I posted to Dana about
checking her rotor punctuation setting because having it on All could cause
dictation to spell out the word period rather than placing a dot for a period
was absolute lunacy. What I thought was the spelled out punctuation was simply
Voiceover speaking the period punctuation mark as it does when punctuation is
set to all. Yeah, very stupid so I wanted to set the record straight. I'm glad
Dana figured out that the culprit was her UK keyboard setting so I'm hoping no
one paid any attention to my post.

Alan Lemly

Dana,

Go to your rotor and see what your Punctuation setting is. I tested this and if
Punctuation is set to All, periods are entered as a word instead of as a dot
when dictating. You should probably set your rotor punctuation as Some to avoid
this issue.

Let us know if this fixes the problem and good luck.

I have a question every time I dictate on my phone and I say the word period
instead of my phone actually putting a punctuation mark other period it spells
out the word period period why would you do this can someone help? Every other
punctuation mark I write works perfectly, however periods always end up not
being a punctuation mark but the actual littoral word does anyone have a
solution or know why this would do this?

RE: Wireless Charging, Anyone? It's a Chicken-and-egg Problem That Can Only Be Solved By a Fruit

2017-02-25 Thread Alan Lemly
Mark,

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm more old school because finding access to an
outlet or USB port to charge my iPhone really doesn't seem to be that big of a
deal. And if I'm on the move, carrying a small external battery power source
isn't much of a hassle either. But I've no doubt that wireless charging is
inevitable and I hope after reading the below history and its complexities that
the eventual convenience of wireless charging is worth its cost.

Subject: Wireless Charging, Anyone? It's a Chicken-and-egg Problem That Can
Only Be Solved By a Fruit

Hello Everyone,

Here is the text from a very interesting cNet article that I thought you may
find interesting.

The URL to the original article is located as the end of the piece.

Enjoy,

Mark

A World Free of Charging Cables? It's All Up To Apple By Roger Cheng/CNET

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge features wireless charging, and successor the S8
will likely have the same capability.

The pitch has always been a simple one: Place your phone down and watch it
charge automatically, without the fuss of finding an outlet or connecting a
power cord.

The reality of wireless charging, however, has been anything but.

Differing technologies and incompatible standards have hindered broader
adoption of wireless charging. It was good enough to work in Oral-B electric
toothbrushes in the early '90s, yet most phones still lack the ability to
charge without a power cord.

But 2017 appears to be the year wireless charging gets its act together.
You're starting to see an accelerating trickle of products incorporating the
feature, from a Dell laptop unveiled at CES to automakers looking for a way to
more easily power their electric vehicles. The most obvious spark could come
from Apple, which appears ready to get off the sidelines and commit to the
feature in a big way by joining the Wireless Power Consortium. The rumors of
the iPhone 8 getting wireless charging alone are enough to get people thinking
about the feature.

"Whoever Apple picks wins," said Avi Greengart, an analyst at research firm
Global Data. "That's the catalyst that would drive enough volume."

Apple declined to comment on how the WPC will impact the next iPhone.

"Apple is an active member of many standards development organizations, as both
a leader and contributor," the company said. "Apple is joining the Wireless
Power Consortium to be able to participate and contribute ideas to the open,
collaborative development of future wireless charging standards."

An embrace of wireless charging by the iPhone maker could mean a resurgence of
interest in the feature. Last year, "things lost steam a bit," according to IHS
analyst David Green. Yes, the number of wireless charging devices grew 40
percent year over year in 2016, but that was largely because Samsung
incorporated the feature into its Galaxy S7 and Note 7 phones.

And just because wireless charging is in a phone doesn't mean consumers are
taking advantage of it -- or even aware of the capability.

The market is expected to nearly double to 375 million devices in 2017, and
Green said he expects at least one more player to publicly embrace wireless
charging at the Mobile World Congress trade show next week.

Obvious benefits

Phone makers for years have touted wireless charging as a key feature. Nokia
famously championed it with its flagship Lumia phones, and Google and LG
incorporated it into the Nexus 4 phone.

Those companies used a technology called inductive charging -- the same as that
electric toothbrush -- which requires you to place the device on a charging pad
in a specific position.

Newer forms of wireless charging open the door to different applications.
Magnetic resonance gives you a bit more freedom, so you don't have to lay your
phone down at an exact spot. It can charge multiple devices with different
power needs. It can also charge across a few inches and through objects, so you
can mount a charging pad under a table rather than have a specific built-in
inductive charger in your furniture (which Ikea actually offers).

That ability to charge over a short distance is an opportunity for automakers
and their electric cars. Alex Gruzen, CEO of WiTricity, which builds chips to
power magnetic resonance technology, said he's planning for car launches in
2020 that will take advantage of the technology. He sees phones capable of
using magnetic resonance coming next year.

"Wireless charging is part of everyone's future roadmap," Gruzen said.

Meanwhile, companies like Energous are exploring sending power over radio
frequency airwaves, similar to how online connectivity gets broadcast over
Wi-Fi. In fact, Energous plans to integrate its power broadcasting capabilities
into Wi-Fi routers next

RE: A question

2017-02-25 Thread Alan Lemly

Hi,
It is what you guys, in the USA know as a period / dot. I call it a full stop,

Hi Andy,

You can't. However, if you start with the bottom one and then delete it, the
next one opens, so you can move through them in chronological order in this way.

Best,
Anna

Wireless Charging, Anyone? It's a Chicken-and-egg Problem That Can Only Be Solved By a Fruit

2017-02-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Here is the text from a very interesting cNet article that I thought you may
find interesting.

The URL to the original article is located as the end of the piece.

Enjoy,

Mark

A World Free of Charging Cables? It's All Up To Apple
By Roger Cheng/CNET

You're starting to see an accelerating trickle of products incorporating the
feature, from a Dell laptop unveiled at CES to automakers looking for a way
to more easily power their electric vehicles. The most obvious spark could
come from Apple, which appears ready to get off the sidelines and commit to
the feature in a big way by joining the Wireless Power Consortium. The
rumors of the iPhone 8 getting wireless charging alone are enough to get
people thinking about the feature.

"Whoever Apple picks wins," said Avi Greengart, an analyst at research firm
Global Data. "That's the catalyst that would drive enough volume."

Apple declined to comment on how the WPC will impact the next iPhone.

"Apple is an active member of many standards development organizations, as
both a leader and contributor," the company said. "Apple is joining the
Wireless Power Consortium to be able to participate and contribute ideas to
the open, collaborative development of future wireless charging standards."

An embrace of wireless charging by the iPhone maker could mean a resurgence
of interest in the feature. Last year, "things lost steam a bit," according
to IHS analyst David Green. Yes, the number of wireless charging devices
grew 40 percent year over year in 2016, but that was largely because Samsung
incorporated the feature into its Galaxy S7 and Note 7 phones.

Those companies used a technology called inductive charging -- the same as
that electric toothbrush -- which requires you to place the device on a
charging pad in a specific position.

Newer forms of wireless charging open the door to different applications.
Magnetic resonance gives you a bit more freedom, so you don't have to lay
your phone down at an exact spot. It can charge multiple devices with
different power needs. It can also charge across a few inches and through
objects, so you can mount a charging pad under a table rather than have a
specific built-in inductive charger in your furniture (which Ikea actually
offers).

That ability to charge over a short distance is an opportunity for
automakers and their electric cars. Alex Gruzen, CEO of WiTricity, which
builds chips to power magnetic resonance technology, said he's planning for
car launches in 2020 that will take advantage of the technology. He sees
phones capable of using magnetic resonance coming next year.

"Wireless charging is part of everyone's future roadmap," Gruzen said.

Meanwhile, companies like Energous are exploring sending power over radio
frequency airwaves, similar to how online connectivity gets broadcast over
Wi-Fi. In fact, Energous plans to integrate its power broadcasting
capabilities into Wi-Fi routers next year.

Beyond phones, that kind of capability would be ideal for low-power sensors
like smoke detectors or even smaller devices like hearing aids.

While the idea of charging something 15 feet away sounds great, there are
questions about how quickly you can charge over the air. Energous also needs
to get approval from the Federal Communications Commission to ensure its
system is safe.

"We are quite comfortable that we have developed tech that conforms to their
guidelines," said Energous CEO Steve Rizzone.

How did we get into this mess?

Here's where things get confusing.

Despite the range of technologies, the standards battles have largely been
fought around two incompatible versions of inductive charging.

On one side is Qi, championed by the Wireless Power Consortium. It boasts,
by far, the

Since it keeps putting in the word "period" I'd suggest don't pause, or start
using "full stop." With all the period words, your messages are getting hard to
read.
Just a suggestion.

I am in the US, and the term "full stop" also ends up putting in the

So, I'm not sure why you are not getting the punctuation.
Are you pausing before saying period?

Re: A question

2017-02-25 Thread Richard Turner
This is a dictated answer. I have use the word. After every sentence.
You will notice there was a word missing in the second sentence that's where I
said the word, period.
I had to type that last word in.

I'm back to typing.
I am in the US, and the term "full stop" also ends up putting in the
punctuation mark instead of the words.
So, I'm not sure why you are not getting the punctuation.
Are you pausing before saying period?
Richard

RE: trouble updating Apple Watch

2017-02-25 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
If I remember correctly, you need to enter the watch passcode on the watch
itself. This can be tricky because you probably have it on the charger at the
time you're being asked to enter the passcode. I may be wrong, but the message
to enter the passcode is coming through on the phone, but you need to go to the
watch being attached to the charger to enter the watch passcode on the watch
itself, and not on the phone (or before you take the watch off of your wrist to
attach it to the charger for the download to work).. It wan'ts to know you're
the watch owner

I caution that I may be remembering this wrongly, but I do remember that at
some point I needed to enter the watch passcode on the watch, and not on the
phone.

Keith

Creating a wifi network from my Mac

2017-02-25 Thread afik Suffir

Hello to all.

I have a MacBook Air 13 inch and iPhone SE.
My Mac is connected to my house network just fine. But my iPhone can’t connect
to this network while I’m in my room, just if I’m in the leaving room.
My question is, how can I create a wifi network from my Mac, so I can connect
my iPhone to this wifi network?
Appreciate your help.

Just curious if I'm the only one having issues?

Re: A question

2017-02-25 Thread englishrider91
This is going to sound weird, but does it work when you say full stop? If so,
you may have your region set to another English type other than US English. You
may want to check on this. You can check on this if you open the settings app,
then tap on general, then on language and region. It should work fine if you
pick "English, English" at the top. That's what I have mine set to, and periods
are rendered correctly for me when dictating.

Thanks,
Ari

If you are using iOS 10 dot something, when you double tap on the edit button,
you should find a button to the right of the phone number in your favorites
that says "reorder", if you double tap and hold on that, then slide your finger
down or up, VoiceOver will say when you moved above or below another number.

I just purchased a new Apple Watch yesterday and it has software version 3.1
running on it. I see there is an update to 3.13, and I am attempting to update
to it.
The problem comes in when I am to enter my pass code on my iPhone. No key pad
shows up. I’ve even connected a bluetooth keyboard(which was not originally

in this pass code box. Do I need to reset the watch, and will this help? I’ve
never seen this issue on my phone in over a year.

Kimber,

I'm not using the very latest version of Facebook, but when I double tap and
hold on that second tap while a post on my newsfeed has focus, I get that
floating menu just above the post and one of its options is copy which I double
tap. I just tested this on a post and it worked just fine when I pasted it into
a new note.

Good luck.

Using ChromeCast and the iPhone?

2017-02-25 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Hi,

We bought a ChromeCast thing to plug into the TV. I have set it up with the
house wifi and my iPhone 6. I successfully did this using "Google Home" app. I
also downloaded the YouTube app and selected TB. Got a bit confused at that
point as to which app to use for getting the youtube video to play on the TV.
Anyway, I managed it and all seemed OK to me, but my partner said that the
picture, on the TV, was small, not the full screen. Cand anyone advise me as to
what setting to change?

Indeed, any tips or useful links would be much appreciated!

Sandy.

Re: Arranging Favorites in Phone App

2017-02-25 Thread Richard Turner

It works in iOS 10.2.1.
I wrote yesterday in response to Ralph's note. Perhaps it didn't go through.
You need to double tap on the edit button, then use the buttons that say
reorder that are to the right of the favorite you want to move by doing the
double tap and hold then sliding it up or down and VoiceOver will tell you that
you have moved below or above another favorite.

I have a reading channel on Zello. If you are interested in joining, download
the app, search for reading for fun. That is the name of the channel. You can
