Re: Moving apps?

2017-03-14 Thread Ryan Mann
What book are you talking about? How are you trying to move the apps? There
is a new way in recent versions of IOS. When you get to an app you want to
move, flick up with one finger until VoiceOver says Arrange Apps. Then
double-tap.
Flick up until you hear VoiceOver give you the option to move the app. Then
double-tap.
Move to where you want the app to be moved to. This can either be on the same
page or another page. Start flicking up with one finger. You will get options
to move the app either before or after the one you are currently on.
Double-tap on whatever you want to do.

Hi Davy,

I haven't had a chance to test every single feature in great detail, but as far
as I can tell, the update is fine and everything is just as accessible as it
was before, if not more so. I was a bit hsitant about updating as well, but I'm
very happy with it.

Re: Apple's next OS 10.3. Backup your phone

2017-03-14 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

Here's the article Marissa posted the link for:
Apple's iOS 10.3 update could result in you losing all of your data if you
do not perform a back up

By Matthew Dunn

Published March 14, 2017
news.com.au

If you have sentimental attachment to the data on your iPhone, you will want
to perform a backup before upgrading to Apple’s latest iOS update later this
month.

While iOS 10.3 promises to deliver a host of new updates, one component
could devastate users who do not back up data and files to Apple’s cloud
before
installing new operating system.

It all has to do with the tech giant introducing a new file system to
replace its 29-year-old predecessor known as HFS+.

Your iOS update will automatically convert to the new Apple File System
(APFS), but if something goes wrong during the process, your old files could
disappear
for good because the two file systems are not compatible.

While you will be able to return to the old version of iOS, this will
require you to reformat your drive, which will delete all of your files on
your device
— hence the need for the backup.

It might sound risky, but Apple File System promises to be a huge
improvement on the predecessor which the tech giant has been using its
introduction in
1998.

The update will be better suited to modern computing demands, allowing for
stronger encryption, more accurate time stamps and optimisation for solid
state
storage.

The new operating system is also expected to include a Find My AirPods
feature, hidden keyboards for iPads and minor App Store improvements.

APFS is also tipped to be rolled out across its computers, smartwatches and
Apple TVs.

HOW TO BACK UP WITH ICLOUD

1. Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.

2. Tap Settings, then scroll down and tap iCloud.

3. Scroll down, tap Backup, and make sure that iCloud Backup is turned on.

4. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process
completes.

5. Make sure that the backup finished: Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage >
Manage Storage, then select your device. The backup should appear in the
details
with the time and backup size.

HOW TO BACK UP WITH ITUNES

1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer.

2. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod when it appears in iTunes.

3. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your iOS device or
Apple Watch, you need to encrypt your backup: Select the box called Encrypt
[device]
backup and create a memorable password. If you don’t need to save your
Health and Activity data, you can make a backup that isn’t encrypted. Just
click
Back Up Now.

Google play music app

2017-03-14 Thread david gross
 I am

Sent from my iPhone using the google paly music app on my Iphone six plus.
For the first week there were no adds on the player, now there are, what
changed?

Also, when it goes to the locked screen I was told I could use the home button
or power button to go to a prompt to skip songs. Sometimes this does happen,
sometimes it goes to a different prompt that gives the time, date, and press
home to open.
Why is i nott consistanttly offering the nextt track prommpt?

Thank you.

Moving apps?

2017-03-14 Thread Rose
Somehow my message app and my e-mail app changed places, I want the original
back but when I try to move them back something does not work right. I
can't read the book and perform the actions at the same time for some
reason.

Also, have not received any e-mail from this list recently. Anyone out
there?

RE: any good lightning head set recommendation

2017-03-14 Thread Alan Lemly
I have to strongly second Sieghard's recommendation of the Apple wired earpods
whether with the lightning connector or the 3.5mm connector. I've used both the
lightning connector set that came with my iPhone 7 and an older 3.5mm set with
the adapter on my iPhone 7 with great success. For the $30 cost, these wired
earpods give me the best sound, fit, and control of any wired headset I've used
and I've used plenty through the years. The control given by the remote button
when reading a book is so convenient when I'm listening to a book while tooling
around.

I really like the Earpods that come with all iPhones, I guess you should have
received a set of Earpods with Lightning connector with your iPhone 7. They are
also available as a separate purchase.
I purchased a set to use at home with my iPhone 6S Plus just because I like to
have a back-up in case my every-day pair breaks and I also was curious as to
the sond quality of Lightning versus 3.5mm jack.
For whatever it's worth my 50-year old ears hear maybe a very small quality
improvement, but not that much. I definitely think the Earpods whether 3.5mm or
Lightning are one of the best headset deals in that price range out there. I
know there are some people say the Earpods don't fit them well and that's of
course a problem, but they fit my ears great, they stay put and I like how I
can just put them in lightly and get good sound yet still hear 95% of
everything else going on around me.
If you don't like those it would help if you described more what you are
looking for as in the headset style, e.g. earbuds, on-ear, over-ear, price
point etc.

Regards,
Sieghard

Mostly this can have dangerous effects in terms of accessibility. Are there

Yes, this was introduced in iOS 10 and in my opinion there is no longer a
reason to be on iOS 9, but that is just my opinion.

Actually, right now if you still are on 9 and if you do a lot of email you
could wait another week or two until 10.3 is released since in iOS 10 a bug was
introduced which put focus on the beginning of an email when you opened it
instead of the beginning of the message body.

It does for me, but a simpler method is to simply swipe down or up on the app
with one finger, Voiceover will say “Arrange Apps”. Now just double tap, swipe
up or down one more time and Voiceover will say “Activate”, double tap on that
and you’ll be prompted whether you want to delete.

Keep in mind that for the Arrange Apps option to come up your rotor must be on
“Actions”, if you manually turned it to something else you may have to put it
back there.

The other option in Arrange Apps is “Move” which is followed by the app name.
This is now also how you move apps, no more double tap and hold and then
dragging the finger around. This was difficult for some people and even for
those who mastered it it was sometimes hit and miss.

Now just double tap on “Move”, then touch where you want the app like before or
after another app or in a folder and use the rotor again (swipe up or down) to
select if you want to insert the app before the app you are on, after or if you
want to create a folder with the app you are on. If you put focus on a folder
you have options to insert the app before, after or of course you can drop it
in the folder.

Lastly, you can still activate “moving” mode with a double tap and hold instead
of using the Arrange Apps rotor option. However, if you have an iPhone model
which has 3D Touch you have to be very careful that you put absolutely no
pressure on the second tap and hold, if you push it will activate 3D Touch.

Can someone advise me how to delete on the iPhone a downloaded app I no longer

2017-03-14 Thread terri elliott
Hi I have a question on this same subject regarding typing on a blue tooth
keyboard. I want to dictate a text message to someone using the dictate
feature. How or is there a way for you to get the dictate option to come up
using the blue tooth keyboard. I know it will come up if you use the touch
screen keyboard which is hard for me to find on the screen touch keyboard. Is
there a way to find that dictate feature using the blue tooth keyboard. Thanks.

It sounds like with this program and your iPhone connected to the computer you
can add music, ringtones and other data to your iPhone. Normally you need
iTunes for this since Apple doesn't give access to the file system. There are a
few programs out there which claim they can do this, but unfortunately many of
them are not at all accessible. This is supposed to be accessible which is why
I am so surprised that nothing has been posted about this before. From time to
time the issue of syncing music or ringtones comes up and many people express
their frustration with iTunes and how they hate using it. Until recently there
was definitely an issue with accessibility of iTunes, but lately iTunes is once
again accessible and it is not that difficult to add music or ringtones to your
phone with iTunes. Nonetheless I am still curious about this Waltr 2
application so hopefully somebody who has it and is successfully using it with
Jaws will do a Podcast on it.

Re: How Do You Delete An App Now?

2017-03-14 Thread Kay Malmquist
That was exactly what I was waiting for, is 10.3 to come out. So when it does
I'll upgrade but not the tail. This is working fine and I'm just going to leave
it at that. Thank you much. Boy, I cannot believe how awful dictated. I really
need to start working on that braille input.

On the subject of moving an app, I do not have an actions option in the rotor

this is the problem and do I have to upgrade to 10. Thanks for any help.

It does for me, but a simpler method is to simply swipe down or up on the app

and you’ll be prompted whether you want to delete.

Hi,
And if you're on an iPad, to my knowledge, the email bug is not fixed, so you
may wish to stay on IOS9, just to be able to use the iPad for mail, like I
have. So far, I still find that all apps work just fine.

RE: Putting music on an iPhone

2017-03-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Considering how many people dislike iTunes I am surprised this application has
not been praised as the reinvention of the wheel with Podcasts about it and so
on. Before I plunk down $40 (I assume that is US Dollars) or $60 which is the
offer if you want free lifetime upgrades I'd really like to hear a Podcast done
about it. I have tried too many of these all with limitations or accessibility
issues.

RE: How Do You Delete An App Now?

2017-03-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It’s a piece of cake, just 3-finger swipe left or right to the page you want
after you started moving the app, you can also use the page counter at the
bottom above the dock. Only thing you can’t do is press the home button as this
will end moving the app.
If the app is on page 4 and you want it on the main home page just go to the
app on page 4, swipe up or down with one finger so it says Arranging apps, then
double tap. Now double tap again since by default you are on Move apps,
Voiceover will say “Moving” following by the app name.
Now use the page counter/flicker at the bottom and flick to the main home page,
remember in iOS 10 that is page 2 since page 1 is the Today screen,
alternatively swipe left to right with 3 fingers twice to go from page 4 to 3
and from 3 to 2.
Now on that home page find where you want the app and then flick up or down
with one finger until you get to the option you want to either insert the app
before the app you are on, after, to create a folder with the app you are on
or, if you are already on a folder, to add it to that folder.
This way of moving apps was one of the big accessibility improvements in iOS 10
and has been discussed a lot last fall, there are Podcasts about it on Applevis
and I think also Cool Blind Tech. Any Voiceover user who doesn’t know about it
is not doing their homework to keep up with major improvements.

I have found a really great way to do the new delete. And even the new move.
What you do is go to the app you want. Flip down on that app and it will say
arranging apps. Double tap that. Then flipped out again and it'll give you
choices then you can go and move, and then you can go down to your page and do
that find the app or folder that you wanted you she rode her there then as
well. It will give you choices of deleting or canceling the move, it will then
also say move in front of this folder with this app, we are behind, or add to
the folder. You haven't had to hold your finger down you haven't had to hunt
and hope it gets there you just go from one spot to the other and then double
tap could get there. Are you set a lot now. For instance, I would double tap on
the K NFB space reader. Then, I would rather down to move double tap again.
Then I would find my photography folder and rotor down on that. It would give
me the choice then putting canopy reader before after or in the folder.

I am with you completely when it comes to the ear buds from Apple. I have
small ear canals but can wear these all day with no discomfort, good sound
and still able to hear what is going on around me. I also wear the hearing
aids with the small rod that fits into the ear and I can use the Apple buds

I really like the Earpods that come with all iPhones, I guess you should
have received a set of Earpods with Lightning connector with your iPhone 7.
They are also available as a separate purchase.
I purchased a set to use at home with my iPhone 6S Plus just because I like
to have a back-up in case my every-day pair breaks and I also was curious as
to the sond quality of Lightning versus 3.5mm jack.
For whatever it's worth my 50-year old ears hear maybe a very small quality
improvement, but not that much. I definitely think the Earpods whether 3.5mm
or Lightning are one of the best headset deals in that price range out
there. I know there are some people say the Earpods don't fit them well and
that's of course a problem, but they fit my ears great, they stay put and I
like how I can just put them in lightly and get good sound yet still hear
95% of everything else going on around me.
If you don't like those it would help if you described more what you are
looking for as in the headset style, e.g. earbuds, on-ear, over-ear, price
point etc.

Hey, all,

This is the email I got from Winston just now. It seems like other people
have written to him about the issue we've been discussing, because as can be
seen from his reply, he knows about it, and will be fixing it soon.

VDR response:
IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you’re experiencing an issue with NeoSpeech voices, we’re aware of it and
a fix will be released very shortly. NeoSpeech gave us a bad license file a
year ago.

We’re so sorry for the inconvenience. Rest assured that it’ll be fixed as
soon as we possibly can, and it won’t happen again!

In the mean time, you could set the date of your device before 3/12/2017.
But we don’t advise that, since it can cause other issues.

Thanks!

Sieghard

Can someone advise me how to delete on the iPhone a downloaded app I no longer

I can confirm this as well. It was strange, because yesterday I was reading
a book on my iPhone using James with no problem. Last night, I read another
book on my iPad and started using James, and had the problem. I haven't
tried it again on the phone. I am definitely going to be riding to Winston.
Don't expect a quick answer. The last time I wrote him, it took literally
months to get a response Something has really changed over there.

Re: Airpods?

2017-03-14 Thread Michael Feir
I think you might not have checked your iPHONE for the dialogue which pops
up where you pair the AirPods with your phone. Once that's done, they will
automatically be switched on when you put them in your ears. If you put one
in your ear and leave one in the case, you can actualy get a dialogue to
pop up which shows the batery levels of each AirPod and the case. Feel
around on the screen for the connect dialogue. Hope that helps.

It does for me, but a simpler method is to simply swipe down or up on the app
with one finger, Voiceover will say “Arrange Apps”. Now just double tap, swipe

and you’ll be prompted whether you want to delete.

 I really like the Earpods
that come with all iPhones, I guess you should have received
a set of Earpods with Lightning connector with your iPhone
 7. They are also available as a separate purchase.
I purchased a set to use at home with my iPhone
6S Plus just because I like to have a back-up in case my
every-day pair breaks and I also was curious as to the sond
quality of Lightning versus 3.5mm jack.
 For
whatever it's worth my 50-year old ears hear maybe a
very small quality improvement, but not that much. I
definitely think the Earpods whether 3.5mm or Lightning are
one of the best headset deals in that price range out there.
I know there are some people say the Earpods don't fit
them well and that's of course a problem, but they fit
my ears great, they stay put and I like how I can just put
them in lightly and get good sound yet still hear 95% of
everything else going on around me.
 If you
don't like those it would help if you described more
what you are looking for as in the headset style, e.g.
earbuds, on-ear, over-ear, price point etc.

 Sieghard
