Deidre,

As the app is free, as is the service, there is no risk in giving it a try.

Just my opinion.

RE: Within Body connected scales

2017-05-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Marie,

Yes, I have the Body scale, can't remember about the set up, but there is
nothing to indicate how to stand or place your feet and it doesn't tell you in
the app. I don't, however, find it difficult to stand on it, it does have a
sort of raised circle in the middle of the glass top which is maybe a bit under
two inches in diameter. I would suggest to put a small piece of tape or one of
the tactile dots one can get in the top left or top right corner because
otherwise it is difficult to know if the scale is sideways or upside down.
The Withings app does give you the readings for weight, fat mass and BMI, but
if you tap on the weight of any given measurement it displays 3 buttons on the
top, weight, body composition and BMI and if you tap on body composition
Voiceover reads:
Body Fat % and if you swipe right "Learn More, button
Body water % and again a "Learn More button
Muscle Mass % with a Learn More button
Bone Mass % and a Learn More button
I will ask my wife tonight about this, but I strongly suspect the percentages
for these 4 measurements are visually there, but Voiceover does not read them,
I know they are also shown visually on the scale's display since if my wife
looks she can see all of these at a glance on the scale itself.
While the Health app displays weight, body mass index and the body fat
percentage, I have not yet discovered if I can add the other measurements for
body water, bone mass and muscle mass.

All in all the scale gets good reviews when it comes to accuracy and all that
and it's actually well priced compared to some of the more expensive options
which don't always get such good reviews and some like the Fitbit smart scale
don't connect to the Health app. I just haven't bothered to write to Withings
to see if they couldn't make the other measurements accessible.
I primarily like to keep track of my weight and having BMI and Body Fat is nice
I guess, but to me it's not such a big deal. I keep fit and as long as I don't
eat too much sweet stuff which can be difficult since I love all things sweet
and as long as my weight moves between 170 and 180 pounds I'm pretty happy.
By the way, the scale gives no indication via a beep or vibration that the
measurements have been taken. It is pretty quick, however, so I just stand
still on it for maybe 10 seconds and that is usually more than enough.

Regards,
Sieghard

Anyone using these?

If so, a few questions if I may...

Is it easy for a totally blind user to set up?

Do you get any feedback from the app. on your phone to help you stand on the
scales correctly? Are all the measurements read by Voice Over?

Is there any markings on the glass to help you to place your feet in the right
place?

very grateful for any reply.

Best wishes to all!

RE: 2 factor authentication on pc

2017-05-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think Richard knew you are in the uK, I certainly didn't and unless
people somehow have a signature or otherwise indicate where they are how should
one know. There is of course always the Be My Eyes app, you could get sighted
assistance that way around the clock.
Also, FYI, here is what it says on Apple's website:

24/7 Accessibility support
If you use an accessibility feature or assistive technology, you can get direct
access to Apple representatives who are trained in providing support using
accessibility services.
Find the accessibility and assistive technology phone number for your country
or learn more and get help with accessibility features.
United Kingdom Accessibility and assistive technology: 0800 048 0754

That "for your country" part is a link, when I clicked on it I was able to find
the number for accessibility support in the UK.

Hi all,
Here's the problem.
I need to authorize a windows based computer for my itunes account.

So I get to the point where apple send a code to my phone.
The instructions say to enter your password followed by the 6 digit code.

No matter how many times I do this, I can not access my account to download
purchasses that are on my phone, but I want them in my pc music library.

Whatever Itunes or account event i initiate, whether it's authroizing the
machine, making a purchase, viewing my account, the code is not working.

Doesn't matter which screen reader is in use at the time. I'm hoping to have a
friend take a look on the screen to see if some important pop up area is not
being viewed by the screen reader. But if someone knows a work around this,
that would be good.

I'd even like to turn off 2 factor authentication, but I bet you can't do that.

Or modify it, say so that when you tell the authorized device to allow access
from the unauthorized device, that would be sifficient.

Or even the answer to a security question, but where to enter the data, that
appears to be the issue.

Many thanks.

Joe

White Noise App

2017-05-22 Thread Kelby Carlson
Does anyone know of any accessible white noise/sleep sounds apps? I'm
hoping for something with multiple effects. I've tried Relax Melodies
but it seems really inaccessible.

Re: goodreads and ibooks

2017-05-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
I wouldn't worry about updating progress on GoodReads. If you wanted
to change the appearance of text in iBooks, to make the textsize
bigger or smaller, then this might be one way you could make the page
count more like what GoodReads has. If you make the text size bigger,
then the number of pages will decrease, and vice versa. However, I
don't usually worry about updating the progress counter. I see other
people who do this, but I think many of them are sighted. I read in
audio form and page count is not relevant.

Re: Apology for the other message, some crafting Kingdom questions

2017-05-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
Thanks also Chris for that great reply. I started this game about 10
days ago and am slowly completing quests. I have expanded a couple of
times, but the current expansion requires 400 stone and 400 leather
strips. That will take me a little while to achieve, so I'm completing
other quests in the meantime. I totally love the game though and
really love that there is a story oriented game that is accessible
now.

Re: Crafting Kingdom

2017-05-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
Also, the quests seem to come up at random. They increased the number
of quests from 6 to 8. However, since I've done the update a few days
ago, I've gotten that quest for the farm and the furnace. I've
completed the restart all automations quest for the farm, but would
really like it to appear for the lumber yard. They did make a ton of
improvements and enhancements with the game though. Among many other
things, there's now an option to get a $4.99 in-app purchase to unlock
all the boosts, instead of having to watch a video for the boost.
While one can still totally play the game for free without doing any
in-app purchases, I'm thrilled that they added the in-app purchase so
gamers can show their support. I've been following the forum for
Crafting Kingdom on AppleVis. If you go to AppleVis, there will likely
be a forum topic among the most recent updates section for the game.
Last I looked yesterday, total posts in this forum were over 450. The
Crafting Kingdom developer also monitors the forum and posts from time
to time.

after entering the last one you may have to tab to OK or soething like that.

Hello Joe,

I'm not certain of what you are experiencing but I can tell you that two-factor
authentication does work in Windows 7 and Windows 10, in iTunes.

I have not attempted to read the 6-digit entry field with Jaws. I tend to use
Zoomtext on my Windows Desktop computers so cannot speak to the screen reader
accessability of the UI but I can say for certain that the entry field does
appear after one enters his/her Apple ID and Password.

Just so you know, one can disable 2-factor authentication via a web browser at:
http://appleid.apple.com.

Just so you understand, with 2-factor enabled, one must begin the login
sequence as usual, by entering an Apple ID and password. Then, if this is done
correctly, en entry UI appears with 6 blank spots in which one is to enter the
6-digit security code that was sent to an authorized device. If a device is
not available, then one can choose to have the code sent to a trusted phone via
SMS.

Now when the code is sent to an authorized device, it will appear as a small
dialog box that you must explore-by-touch to understand.

The process can seem a bit overwhelming the first time but one quickly becomes
accustomed to the procedure.

No matter how many times I do this, I can not access my account to download

Joe

Re: 2 factor authentication on pc

2017-05-22 Thread Joe Paton
at eleven o'clock on a sunday eveing in the uk, I don't think so richard.

I can wait for an answer from the list, life isn't that hectic, and I can live
without the latest music not available on the pc, for about three months or
there abouts
So you see, the apple itunes problem is not the core of my existence.

Thanks for writing.

Joe.

Hi,
Instead of waiting for someone to maybe answer on the list, what about calling
Apple Accessibility: 877-204-3930

I think they would help pretty quickly.

Hi all,
Here's the problem.

Re: 2 factor authentication on pc

2017-05-22 Thread Joe Paton
Hello Siehghard and mark,

Having read both your messages, thank you.

I think that the problem is caused by the itunes app not displaying the single
character boxes for the 6 digit code to be entered.

I'll try on another pc on the network, and see how it goes.

Many thanks.

Joe

Joe,

Are you adding the 6-digit code on to the end of your password? This is rarely
necessary, as Mark pointed out, iTunes should prompt you for this code after
you enter your Apple Id and regular password. As soon as you enter the first
digit of the code focus automaticlaly jumps to the second digit etc. I think
after entering the last one you may have to tab to OK or soething like that.

Sieghard

Mark
