Re: Google Assistant is now an iPhone app

2017-06-03 Thread Nimer Jaber
Hello,

The google assistant is okay... it is great on Android, and is much better
than Siri at contextualization. However, on iOS, the first bunch of words
that are uttered by the assistant are presented at an extremely low volume,
before volume increases. I attempted to play around with audio ducking
options, however this did not fix the problem. Unfortunately, this is a
huge issue when out and about and trying to hear what it says... while you
can hear the content by using Voiceover, this is not always convenient,
especially hand-free... speaking of hands-free, there should be a way to
say okay google to trigger the assistant... there also should be a way to
trigger the assistant with a long-press of the home button if a user
chooses. In iOS, it seems that the only two options are using Siri, or
voice commands, whatever that means. Anyway, if you are okay with the
drawbacks of using this app at present, I do recommend it.

Thanks.

I think someone else also suggested this, but you might want to try
going into Settings -> Bluetooth and double tapping the more options for
your Buffalo headset. Now double tap the forget button and all of the
setting in your iPhone for your Buffalo headset will be removed. Now try
pairing it again from scratch and see if the problem is resolved.

Go into settings and double tap the button that says bluetooth on. Now
double tap the button for the Buffalo headset to see if it pairs
correctly. Make sure the Buffalo headset is on and trying to pair first.

Also, after double tapping on bluetooth on in settings, double tap the
more button after the Wonderbom speaker. You'll have a forget button at
the bottom of the screen. Double tap that and you won't see the
Wonderboom listed in your bluetooth options in the future.

2017-06-03 Thread Kelly Pierce
The men were on the roof to repair an air conditioning unit. It was
the second day of the year where the temperature rose above 80
degrees. Ladders are funny creatures. They are on an angle and are
sometimes not detectable with a white cane. My cane touched the
ladder just as my shoulder did. If the sweep of the cane is very
wide, it hits open doorways and street furniture. Also, people
traveling the opposite direction on the street don’t like being tapped
with the cane. I find that a sweep about two feet wide is sufficient.

I am highly passionate about ladders because several years ago I was
walking very quickly on my way to work and ran into a ladder on the
sidewalk that cut a gash around my eye socket. The contractor was
ticketed and fined and eventually paid my medical bills and lost wages
for its act of negligence. The incident required visiting a hospital
where I received five stiches, which needed to be removed at a
doctor’s office several days later. After lying on a table and having
my face sewn together, I took this similar incident very seriously. I
came home and wrote a 500 word detailed account that I sent to my
alderman.

about two incidents but video showed the airline was wrong.

Today, I was walking down a busy commercial street in my neighborhood here in
Chicago. I ran into a ladder that a business propped against the side of its
building. Fortunately, just my shoulder and arm grazed the ladder, and I was
not injured. There was no barrier to prevent pedestrians from walking into the
ladder by accident. I pulled out my iPhone and took a couple of pictures to
document for the city to take enforcement action.

Clifton,

Did you ever think about pulling your iPhone out of your pocket and
start a video recording? It produces unquestioned documentation.
Fortunately, the airline accepted your version of events and took
corrective action. It could have easily lied and said you walked off
the plane because you were hungry and your ticket was refunded in
goodwill. United Airlines has lied about two incidents but video
showed the airline was wrong.

Today, I was walking down a busy commercial street in my neighborhood

A basic rule here is this: if a blind person makes a $500 bet against your

RE: searching for answers to basic questions

2017-06-03 Thread Richard Turner
If the phone is sitting there, unlocked, the battery is draining, pure and
simple. If you have it set to never auto lock, you could drain the battery
pretty quickly by just letting it sit there with nothing open.

The noise you hear with the home button on the iPhone 6, is not a bug that I am
aware of, it is there at times on every iPhone 6 I have handled and that is at
least 10 through my work with clients. I have no idea what it is there for. I
just ignore it.

I have no idea if particular models are more durable than others, but my 5S has
been humming along for over 3 years now.

It still has good battery life.

Thanks Richard. What I saw on that web site was mostly comments. I was familiar
with everything discussed. I can indeed see the details of my usage clearly so
that is good. I'm not sure why photos are still in the list hogging mgg as in
the case of the old phone, I've deleted all the photos. I can't find where they
are being held until 30 days is up and that is not in the app itself unless it
is a part of the screen not read by voice over.
I am still baffled by the term I saw in several places about the "home
lock screen" being a battery hog. Does that term mean to say the opposite of
what it sounds like, that not locking your screen when the phone is not in hand
and being used hogs battery? Is this simply a question of semantics?
Funny thing is that years ago before I bought my iPhone 6 it was
generally, or perhaps misleadingly, touted that the phones could hold a charge
for up to 3 days. I remember thinking that was great, but definitely did not
prove true in my case. After having a phone that lasted only a little over 2
years, I am now particularly cautious cause I do not want to hafve to replace a
phone every 2 years. I could be using my phone constantly for the many things I
like to do with it, but now, it sits quietly as I attempt a different life
style! I use an old 4S for reading BARD books now, and spend a lot less time on
Facebook. I'm smiling. I can also use wi-fi for Tune In and listen to podcasts
of day old news shows and radio, so, that old 4S will serve that purpose as
well until it dies.
On another note, has it been documented that some models of the iPhone are more
durable than others?, The replacement iPhone 6 is a bit defective in that it
sometimes makes scratchy noises as I swipe or hit the home button. It doesn't
happen often, and I reported it, but I don't know if I want to send it back at
this point.

Here is an excellent page on how to figure out what is using your battery.
It is almost two years old and refers to iOS 9, but the information is still
very good.
I'd suggest reading it all before deciding to check things on your iPhone.

demanded to see his doctor’s letter prescribing an emotional assistance dog.
That wasn’t the purpose for having the dog. Emotional assistance dogs are the
only animals that require documentation.

Unfortunately, both happened on Southwest which has been good to me and my
guide dogs in the past.

Recently I was discriminated against by frontier airlines. They wouldn’t allow
me to travel with my 18 month old grand daughter. I called newspapers, news

community and those after me so they will get treated fairly. Below is the

Re: Bluetooth headset

2017-06-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Go into settings and double tap the button that says bluetooth on. Now
double tap the button for the Buffalo headset to see if it pairs
correctly. Make sure the Buffalo headset is on and trying to pair first.

Also, after double tapping on bluetooth on in settings, double tap the
more button after the Wonderbom speaker. You'll have a forget button at
the bottom of the screen. Double tap that and you won't see the
Wonderboom listed in your bluetooth options in the future.

Re: Assembling an mp3 with multiple tracks to play sequentially on my iPhone

2017-06-03 Thread Richard Turner
First, iTunes will put them in with your music unless they are tagged as a book.
Numbering them with the leading 01, 02, etc., can work unless they are tagged
with track numbers in which case, iTunes will order them by the tag no matter
what the file name says.
Or, if you have Voice Dream Reader, you could use the file names with the
leading 01, 02, etc., create a zip file of the 15 files naming the zip file
something like Yoga Exercise, and put it on Dropbox and add it in Voice Dream,
then it will be treated like a book with each file treated as a chapter.
HTH,
Richard

Re: Assembling an mp3 with multiple tracks to play sequentially on my iPhone

2017-06-03 Thread Dave

Hi, make sure, you lable your tracks in the correct order of play. example,
you say you have 15 mp3 files. So you would start with 01, 02, 03 et
cetera. Do this up to 09, then drop the zeros, and just do 10, 11, 12, until
you finish with 15.

that should work fine with iTunes.

If you use an app like Voice Dream Reader, the lableing is the same, but
once you have labled them, you would have to zip all 15 mp3's, in 1 zip
file, and then you can put them on your phone, and they will play in order.

Also If you have Dropbox on your phone, you can link Voice Dream Reader to
your Dropbox.

Hello,

You're correct that the rotor setting determines how much text is selected or
deselected with the 2-5-6 and 2-3-5 commands. You can change the setting during
the selection process as well, so you could, for example, select a couple of
lines, then a word on the following line.

iPhone5S with BrailleNote Apex Seeking tips to more efficiently navigate and select text

2017-06-03 Thread Gerardo Corripio
OK so I'm using a BrailleNote Apex as a Braille display with my iPhone
5s; I give this info to be on the same channel. I wonder because I can't
find any equivalent to the left/right, up/down arrows within the Space+i
commands, what's the best way to navigate through text more efficiently,
rather than having to keep pressing the panning keys on the Apex?

Which brings me to the question of selecting text: What's the quickest
way to select text? I'm aware and use the Space+256 command, but am
curious how does the command know what chunk to select upon each press?
I imagine that within the rotor, depending on if it's on Words,
Characters, lines etc., is the indicator for the selecting text
mentioned-before?

Thanks for any tips you can give on this subject, and on using a Braille
display within edit fields, especially. I'm starting to see the benefits
of using such a tool.

re: bluetooth headset

2017-06-03 Thread Jewel
After much searching, I found bluetooth settings, only to be told that the
connection had failed:
not that that piece of information came as any surprise. My task now is to
find out why it had.

hi guys, Whilst using messenger on my iphone. When the messenger alert sounds

the alert sound ding.
This is when my phone is in the lock screen mode, but think it does it all the
time.
I want the ding alert, but not the reading of the message.
I'm not explaining this too well.
All I want is the alert sound and not hearing the message being read, Billy
