RE: Gesture to Move to End of Document

2017-06-04 Thread Alan Lemly
I'll add to what Richard has already said that if the particular screen happens
to have a bottomline menu bar, placing focus on the leftmost button on that bar
and swiping left once will usually jump you to the next element at the bottom
of the pages. Otherwise, the 4-finger tap near the bottom of the screen as
Richard said is the other alternative.

The only one I know of is the four finger tap near the bottom of the screen.
That usually works for me.

Subject: Gesture to Move to End of Document

Recently I've encountered long multiple-screen blocks of text which I would
like to skip. For instance, the user agreement for OneNote. It's 140 pages
plus. I know I'm going to use the app and would like to move to the accept
button, but moving page by page will take a long time. This certainly isn't the
only example, but a recent one.

Is there a VoiceOver command to move--not just to the end of the screen--but to
the end of a multi-page or multi-screen item?

I will appreciate any help.

2017-06-04 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey. From what I've been playing around with in the Google Assistant, Tunein
isn't available. Only Youtube and Apple Music. Also, in regards to Sieghard's
comments, I'd be a little worried if Amazon were to start shipping the Echo
here in Canada. Sure, it would be cool, but seeing as I already have one, if
they do start shipping here in Canada, I might lose my Pandora and iHeartRadio
US accounts. It would be nice if Pandora were available here in Canada, but I
kinda doubt it will. And our iHeartRadio is crap compared to the US's so they
need to fix that before I'd be relaxed about the Echo being supported in Canada.

Hello,

The google assistant is okay... it is great on Android, and is much better than
Siri at contextualization. However, on iOS, the first bunch of words that are
uttered by the assistant are presented at an extremely low volume, before
volume increases. I attempted to play around with audio ducking options,
however this did not fix the problem. Unfortunately, this is a huge issue when
out and about and trying to hear what it says... while you can hear the content
by using Voiceover, this is not always convenient, especially hand-free...
speaking of hands-free, there should be a way to say okay google to trigger the
assistant... there also should be a way to trigger the assistant with a
long-press of the home button if a user chooses. In iOS, it seems that the only
two options are using Siri, or voice commands, whatever that means. Anyway, if
you are okay with the drawbacks of using this app at present, I do recommend it.

Thanks.

RE: Google Assistant is now an iPhone app

2017-06-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, the Google Assistant is also not available here in Canada at this point
just as the google Home Speaker is not yet available although apparently this
is supposed to change later this year.
Also, ind typical Google fashion the google Assistant app apparently wants to
keep track of your location at all times even when you are not using the app so
it can collect as much information about you as possible.
It is interesting how there is a lot of discussion how Apple is totally missing
the boat on the smart speaker category, but one thing that isn’t mentioned is
that devices like the Amazon Echo or Google Home are only available in the US
and a couple of other countries, I believe the Echo is available in the UK and
Germany, but it is not even available in Canada and we only just now are able
to use Amazon Video here. If the rumours are true Apple may release a smart
speaker tomorrow or if not then maybe in September or October and it will be
interesting to see if Apple is making it available in many more countries. I
know not all Apple services have always been available everywhere, but I could
see how such a device might be available wherever apple also sells iPhones or
at least where SIRI is available since of course SIRI would be absolutely
required for this to work. If so and if Apple is finally giving SIRI the
necessary upgrade to bring it more in line with what Alexa and Google Home can
do then Apple could very quickly gain a strong foothold in this market simply
because the other companies didn’t bother to make their device available
outside the US and a handful of other countries.

Sieghard

Re: hot spot

2017-06-04 Thread Richard Turner

The down side is that it will use cellular data.
She may have to work with her carrier to enable hotspot and it may cost a
little extra.
Whether the computer will automatically connect after the first time is a good
question that she probably will have to sort out after the fact.
I use the hotspot with my work phone when I am traveling for work.
If I turn wifi off on the computer until after it is at the desktop, then turn
on the persenal hotspot, then turn on the wifi, it generally connects
automatically.
When she leaves the apartment, she should just turn off the personal hotspot on
the phone and turn it on when she returns.
HTH,
Richard

hot spot

2017-06-04 Thread Ann Byrne
My student wants to set up her phone as a hot spot, instead of using
the unreliable internet connection in the apartment complex where she lives.

1. Will her computer connect automatically after the initial set up?
2. When she takes the phone with her away from the computer, is she
still transmitting internet data?
3. When she comes back home, will the computer find the internet
without her doing anything about it?

4. What is the down side of the process?

Thanks. This is uncharted territory for me. Is there an article
somewhere I can read to learn more?

Thanks,

Ann

You may want to see if not having VoiceOver speak on the lock screen fixes it
in the VoiceOver settings.

Or, stating the obvious here, set the do not disturb time later.

If you just turn off speech with the three finger double tap, you can still
answer the phone using the two finger double tap.

Thanks.

Weather Apps

2017-06-04 Thread Rick Justice
Hello,
I am looking for recommendations on weather apps that are completely
accessible with Voiceover,
and allow for the selection of alerts.
Are there any that will alert you to severe weather like the weather radios
do, and remain quiet the rest of the time?
Any help appreciated

Recently I've encountered long multiple-screen blocks of text which I would
like to skip. For instance, the user agreement for OneNote. It's 140 pages
plus. I know I'm going to use the app and would like to move to the accept
button, but moving page by page will take a long time. This certainly isn't the
only example, but a recent one.

Is there a VoiceOver command to move--not just to the end of the screen--but to
the end of a multi-page or multi-screen item?

I will appreciate any help.

Thanks.

2017-06-04 Thread Deidre Muccio
Richard, when I said that I always manually lock my phone or rather have it on
never locked, it doesn't mean that I don't manually lock it. It's the sort of
detail I would never forget. So as soon as I'm done using the phone and plan to
step away to do other things I manually lock it. Pure and simple! Now I've got
it on auto lock which can sometimes be a little annoying but it's not the worst.
I remember that you had a 5S and I haven't heard you talking about replacing it
so I am somewhat envious. I would've been happy with the 5S, but it was not
part of the offer Verizon originally made me where the six given what it came
with was my best prospect at the time.
