It could be that those CNN notifications are coming through the Apple News app.
Perhaps turning off notifications for news will resolve this.

Maybe they should call it DramaVis. I know I am going out on a limb here, but I 
have noticed that a certain group among the blind/visually impaired does tend 
to be drama-oriented. Of course you have such people among the sighted as well, 
but percentage wise I’d say there are fewer.

Phone Problems Since Updating

I have two things going on with my phone.  First is with Dropbox.  I lost
everything so when I open Dropbox it says either sign in to google or create
an account.  Is there any way to fix this since I never used google with
Dropbox?

 

Second thing is in my email if I am in a message there is no delete button
at the bottom.  It says archive but not delete.  If I go out of the message
I can swipe up and delete that way.  Any help or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

that one, I also have a Christian group where we read Christian fiction books 
together and we pick a different book every month and discuss it and that is on 
WhatsApp, I am in a tech group which is awesome where we talk about anything 
technical and I am also in an iPhone group where we talk about our phones of 
course and I am in the ham radio group mentioned as well so if you’re 
interested or anyone is in any of those types of groups the blind friendship 
group is just a general chat group

This is the app developer problem. If you write the developer they may be able 
to assist you. The developer email address can be found by going to the 7 
little words page in the app store. The email is near the bottom of the page. 
By the way..Any problems encountered with an app is not an Apple problem it is 
a problem that needs to be brought to the attention of the developer of the 
app.

to know folks who are on there, and ask someone you know to help get you into a 
group, and unless you already know folks on those systems, you have no way of 
knowing what groups are available. The advantage to Vorail is that you can just 
go on and interact with folks even if you don't know anyone on the system.

Seven Little Words: a problem

I think that this is probably at Apple's end rather than my iPhone.
I have finished all the free games that came with my original download.  I 
bought 2017 Jan/August 
which I have finished without a hitch, and followed that up with a further 
purchase of 
2016/JanuaryJuly.
It should say January/February/March etc and I open the appropriate month but 
it just keeps saying 
"reset--reset--reset"
I purchased an earlier 6 months worth of puzzles, hoping that the problem would 
go away, but such 
was not the case.
If this is happening with anyone else's copy, could you please tell me if it is 
something that I can 
fix, but I am of the opinion that it is at Apple's end of the chain.

How are you everything I have also found since upgrading to iOS 8 11 that’s 
free that he didn’t need to have your router set for actions. But, you still 
may want to be careful because I accidentally deleted semi meals I didn’t 
actually mean to.

Hi Connie and everyone in the group. I recently just 10 rated to iOS 11.three. 
One thing you may be able to do if you asked Denteley deleted email you didn’t 
want to, yes, to shake your phone and it will talk about emptying trash is 
flick over till says and do in double tap on do. It brings back the email that 
you accidentally deleted. It has worked for me. I hope this helps.

Update To: iOS 11.0.3 Reminders: Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

Hello Everyone,

After reading the replies to my original thread on this subject, my friend
and I went to the Apple Store.

As you have probably guessed, based on the replies from the original thread,
I was unable to reproduce any of the VoiceOver Reminder app bugs on any of
the phones in the Apple Store.  

In fact, strange as it may sound, the VoiceOver Reminder bugs appear to be
limited to her device, alone.  

While there, I paid a visit to the Genius Bar, demonstrating the anomalies.
They, too, were a bit baffled at the uniqueness of the problems.  

They suggested that we reset all of the settings on her phone ore simply
install iOS 11 from scratch.  

So, there ends my saga of the Reminders app VoiceOver bugs.

For me, I have found you have to have your roder setting  in actions.  Then you 
can flick up or down and delete messages that way.  With the way they have 
e-mail set up now, I have accidentally deleted something I don’t want to.  So, 
I just press the back button, go to trash find the message and move it back to 
the in box.  I did see an e-mail I don’t remember if it was from this list or 
another list I’m on from Jonathan Mosin saying in a later update, mail would 
return to the way it was sat up in IOS 10.

 

Now, with the messaging app. You again have to have your router set to actions

If you have VIPs set up in the email, aren’t you supposed to get a notification 
when a VIP sends an email? I have VIPs set up, I have made sure the 
notification setting is done and the mail is set to notify. I am fetching mail 
every 30 minutes which is much too much for me, but we are in the middle of a 
family crisis and I like to be able to know when a VIP email comes in. I hear 
the sound when the mail comes in, but no notification when a VIP sends an 
email.  Any ideas? I am using an iPhone 8 with iOS 11.0.3. If it matters, this 
is with my Comcast account which is IMAP.

It's really hard to impossible to do: when I tried to on my first ever ride 
that got canceled on me, I couldn't find anywhere in the app to write about 
this, and then when I tried it on Safari, I had to verify that I was a human, 
and couldn't get everything done in time before the verification expired. I had 
to contact them on Twitter!  From within the app, if you can get to where it 
says get help, there is just a heading, which you can't get beyond. I encourage 
people to write and tell them to improve on this situation please.

out there. I've found some awesome people out there, however I don't feed into

VIP Email Notification Question

Hi All,

 

If you have VIPs set up in the email, aren't you supposed to get a
notification when a VIP sends an email? I have VIPs set up, I have made sure
the notification setting is done and the mail is set to notify. I am
fetching mail every 30 minutes which is much too much for me, but we are in
the middle of a family crisis and I like to be able to know when a VIP email
comes in. I hear the sound when the mail comes in, but no notification when
a VIP sends an email.  Any ideas? I am using an iPhone 8 with iOS 11.0.3. If
it matters, this is with my Comcast account which is IMAP.

I know that when IOS 11 came out, it apparently broke all of the Twitter apps 
except for the native Twitter app, in fact when I redownloaded my purchased 
apps after buying a new phone, I couldn't even download any of the Twitter apps 
except for the native Twitter app. Hopefully the developers of the other apps 
have made the necessary changes.

Vorial is like anything else in life in my opinion. There is good and 
bad out there. I've found some awesome people out there, however I don't 
feed into the drama when I hear it. If you do that, you shouldn't have 
to deal with any of the drama. Mute whoever you don't wish to hear and 
it works well.

I was looking for the same thing recently. I found tons of spin videos
on youtube, but none with instructions telling you what the instructor
is doing.

I was considering reaching out to eyes free fitness and talking to
them about it. They have other fitness tracks and the instruction is
pretty good but currently no spin classes. I will let you know what I
find out if anything once I email them.

Hi, Twitterrific is an amazing app. The app itself is free but if you want 
notifications you have to pay. As for tweetbot I'm hoping they add rotor 
actions then I probably use that app more. Tweetings is good too.

Maybe they should call it DramaVis. I know I am going out on a limb here, but I 
have noticed that a certain group among the blind/visually impaired does tend 
to be drama-oriented. Of course you have such people among the sighted as well, 
but percentage wise I’d say there are fewer.

You see a “Null” entry in the messages app if you delete using the rotor, 
visually there is a blank space.
If you close the messages app from the app switcher and then reopen it 
everything is good again.
You can either delete as you are used to doing and then closing Messages in the 
app switcher or delete using the Edit button at the top right in the messages 
app, double tap the message or messages you want to delete to select them and 
then double tap on Delete at the bottom. That also does not mess things up and 
as Gordon already pointed out, this bug is fixed in iOS 11.1 which is currently 
on public beta 3 and I would expect it to be available as the public upgrade in 
2-4 weeks.

In Mail you just have to be careful, once you flick up to put the rotor on 
Delete it stays there so that the next time you double tap after deleting a 
message it will again delete instead of opening the message which should be the 
default.
This was actually changed by Apple to be normal behaviour, but there was a 
pretty big outcry regarding this inconsistent behaviour and Apple so far at 
least has changed it back to what it used to be in iOS 10, I hope this will 
remain this way for the final release and going forward.

Yes that's a bug in the first releases of 11. This will soon be corrected and 
will work the way you would expect it to.

Wow! I have only recently started using Reminders as intended, but I have found 
no accessibility issues using iOS 11. I will be anxious to hear what problems 
you are having.
You might want to take a look at Alarmed. You can have Siri set reminders in 
the Reminders app and when you open Alarmed they will be transferred to that 
app.

My only problem with the Reminders app is I cannot get location-based reminders 
to work at all. I have asked everywhere I know with various suggestions, but 
still no go.

Wow!  What a disappointment.  With VoiceOver enabled, I was unable to perform 
many of the basic functions integral to the Reminders app.  I kept having to 
disable VoiceOver in order to access various lists and, even to edit the 
details of individual reminders.  

I do not recall seeing any on-list threads discussing all of the bugs in the 
iOS 11 Reminders app.  Were there any?

Has anyone else experienced this?  

I can only hope that the developers have addressed these issues in iOS 11.1; 
otherwise, I am staying with iOS 10 until such time as they do.

Re: twitter clients to use on the i phone

Hello,

The default Twitter app is very accessible. The only issue as of right now is 
the trending topics feed in the search tab. I switch back and forth from 
Twitterrific & Tweetbot. Tweetbot is not he best with VoiceOver but I am drawn 
to it as it resembles the TweetList app that I used for many years, and I 
loved. I am lobbying for the developers to improve accessibility. My fingers 
are crossed that they will work on this.

A computer backup with iTunes also does not back up music and neither does it 
backup apps. If you are physically syncing music on your hard drive then that 
music is also synced back to your phone if you restore from an iTunes backup.
iCloud backups are not what they used to be either, they are almost as good as 
an encrypted iTunes backup and probably better than a non-encrypted iTunes 
backup.
I'm not saying one shouldn't do a backup to iTunes if you have a computer, but 
if you do one you might as well do an encrypted backup to at least get the most 
out of it.

You are missing a backup to your computer.  If for some reason your iCloud 
backup is corrupted, the computer backup is a fallback. An iCloud backup is not 
foolproof.  Also, iCloud does not back up music in the music app.  If you have 
music in your iTunes Library, your new phone will need to be synched to your 
computer using iTunes.

Keyboard case for iPad mini IV and a11y, especially Zoom

Looking into getting a keyboard case for my mini. Several questions. 
Can arrow keys navigate me around screen when zoomed in?  Are there 
magnification shortcuts?  Does cursor tracking work well?
Paging up/down possible with reading docs like books and webpages?  Looking to 
use mini IV for notes and reviewing in Guide Dog class, and school classes 
instead of cludgy windows laptop. Thanks in advance.

The most popular ones are Twitterrific and Tweetings. They’re both completely 
VoiceOver accessible. I use Twitterrific. Both apps are paid. Can’t recall what 
I paid for either one though. I’m sure someone can provide that info.

accessible indoor cycling app

Hi group,

I'm wondering if anyone has discovered an app that features spinning
or indoor cycling-type tracks, complete with the musical soundtrack
and voice recording of the instructor giving directions. I've heard of
one called peloton, but of course it's inaccessible, and is also
specific to a particular type of bike and instructional parameters.
Any suggestions?

You are missing a backup to your computer.  If for some reason your
iCloud backup is corrupted, the computer backup is a fallback. An
iCloud backup is not foolproof.  Also, iCloud does not back up music
in the music app.  If you have music in your iTunes Library, your new
phone will need to be synched to your computer using iTunes.

I am a huge fan of the iOS 10.x Reminders app.  I don't know how I would get 
along without it, these days.  I use it for everything including grocery lists, 
location-based notification, etc.

I was just attempting to create and manage reminders on a friend's iPhone 7 
Plus with VoiceOver enabled.  

Wow!  What a disappointment.  With VoiceOver enabled, I was unable to perform 
many of the basic functions integral to the Reminders app.  I kept having to 
disable VoiceOver in order to access various lists and, even to edit the 
details of individual reminders.  

I do not recall seeing any on-list threads discussing all of the bugs in the 
iOS 11 Reminders app.  Were there any?

Has anyone else experienced this?  

I can only hope that the developers have addressed these issues in iOS 11.1; 
otherwise, I am staying with iOS 10 until such time as they do.

I assume that if the new phone is not up to date with software that this

intervention is required other than following instructions on both the old
