Janet! For a while, I lost the "clever thing, you!" sound that is back and
I find that the "get a
hint" is variable. most times, it will give "first letter" or "first
tile" but, occasionally,
that will only result in a bonk--bonk--bonk, but I find, and this must be
happenstance, and a happy
happenstance at that, the whole solution, which I use only if all my efforts
to solve the annagram
have failed, is, more than often, something so strange that I would not
have got it, unaided. I

wish that I could give you an example, but there is not one in my head.
Perhaps, I should hold this letter back until my next play session and see
if one comes up.
I did and no impossible word came up requiring my to ask for the entire
solution, but I did find
that if you ask for a first letter or first tile, there will be a pause of
several seconds before
the answer is given, but if you take the easy way and ask for the entire
solution, it is
instantaneous, so, Janet, don't be impatient and when you ask for either of
the first 2 options,
just wait and it will be given to you. Remember: "good things come to
those who wait!"
I said in my previous letter that some of the clues readh back into the days
of history re
Mastermind winner of 1987, but last night, I found one that went back even
further than that.
"Giggly-voiced singer" Cogan 4 letters, and that, of course, was Alma Cogan
and her era was that of
Professor Jimmy Edwards and Dick Bentley in the BBC radio show, The Glums
and that must have been

around the 1960s.

Hi Jewel you can get puzzles going back to 2012 so I assume that is when it
started. the thing I've got is the sound has stopped working when you guess
your answer and on the second group of puzzles that you can do you cannot
get any kind of hint apart from the complete answer. Janet

Some time ago, I wrote in, saying that the "Older Puzzles" section of my
copy of 7 Little Words: an
oxymoron if ever there was one as many of the words are far from being *
little, not that I am
complaining you understand: was stuck and asked how or where I could get
help to get it unstuck.
Donna made the suggestion that I contact the game's boss, but I was never
able to find the address.
However, I am pleased to say that it is, now going fine again. Perhaps,
someone else was
experiencing the same problem as I and he/she was able to contact the boss.
How long has 7 Little Words been going? I have the British version and at
the moment, am playing
August 2016. One of the clues was "who won MasterMind in 1987? Peter, 4
letters. The answer was
Mize.

The NBA In its infinite wisdom has decided to reinstate their league Pass Audio

radio feeds both home and away. You may not see this option when you review the
subscription choices within the smart phone app. if not, you can go to

updated to reflect this option.

Enjoy!

2017-10-27 Thread Richard Turner
Try the command, spacebar plus sh and if that doesn't bring back the onscreen
keyboard, on the phone, in the braille settings, make sure onscreen keyboard is
on.

If that doesn't do it, then it is time to reboot everything and if that still
doesn't work, call Apple Accessibility and see if there is something else to do.
But, no, you shouldn't have to turn off the smart beatle: though if it is on,
why not use it for the text entry?

and the app that's recommended is the MyCareLink Smart made by Medtronic so

using this or do you know of an accessible app that would allow her to send

I would assume that the signals being sent from the keyboard to the computer
are all generated the same way and follow the same standard protocol.
Basically, the only difference would be the key caps. Therefore, they're
pretty much interchangeable. Here's just one of many articles on using a
Windows keyboard on a Mac and the other way around

  Hi,

The original question came from someone who has a Windows Bluetooth
keyboard and was trying to figure out what keys she would use if connected
to an iPhone.

I have the AmazonBasics keyboard and had recommended it because of having
both options and control on both sides of the spacebar.

But, it hasn’t been available for at least 6 months, so I switched to the
Logitech K480 since it can connect to three Bluetooth devices including
Windows or Android along with Apple.

I will leave it to that person to finally sort out what keys on a Windows
keyboard match up to the Apple keyboard commands.

  Hi Richard,

I use a BATTOP keyboard from Amazon, & it doesn't have an application key
/ context menu key. Here's my bottom row key layout.

My bottom row from left to right:
Left Function key, Control, Options / Alt, Command, Spacebar, Command,
Options / Alt, Up / down / left / right Arrow keys.

I don't know what key would be the application / context menu key using
this keyboard being I've never used it with a Windows computer. Also I
don't know if iOS has an equivalent to the Windows context menu, unless it's
the Rotor.

  QWERTY Keyboard Layout:
Press:” Fn” +” Q” for iOS
  Press:” Fn” + ” W ”for Android
  Press:” Fn” +” E ” for Windows

  AZERTY keyboard Layout:
  Press: ” Fn” +” A” for Android

  OK,

I of course new that control+options was the VO key.

But to make sure we are all on the same page:

  Windows key equals command key

  Application key equals Options

  And Control equals control.

  Is that correct?

Re: 7 Little Words

2017-10-27 Thread Jewel
Janet! For a while, I lost the "clever thing, you!" sound that is back and I
find that the "get a
hint" is variable. most times, it will give "first letter" or "first tile"
but, occasionally,
that will only result in a bonk--bonk--bonk, but I find, and this must be
happenstance, and a happy
happenstance at that, the whole solution, which I use only if all my efforts to
solve the annagram
have failed, is, more than often, something so strange that I would not have
got it, unaided. I
wish that I could give you an example, but there is not one in my head.
Perhaps, I should hold this letter back until my next play session and see if
one comes up.
I did and no impossible word came up requiring my to ask for the entire
solution, but I did find
that if you ask for a first letter or first tile, there will be a pause of
several seconds before
the answer is given, but if you take the easy way and ask for the entire
solution, it is
instantaneous, so, Janet, don't be impatient and when you ask for either of the
first 2 options,
just wait and it will be given to you. Remember: "good things come to those
who wait!"
I said in my previous letter that some of the clues readh back into the days of
history re
Mastermind winner of 1987, but last night, I found one that went back even
further than that.
"Giggly-voiced singer" Cogan 4 letters, and that, of course, was Alma Cogan
and her era was that of
Professor Jimmy Edwards and Dick Bentley in the BBC radio show, The Glums and
that must have been
around the 1960s.

Hi Jewel you can get puzzles going back to 2012 so I assume that is when it
started. the thing I've got is the sound has stopped working when you guess
your answer and on the second group of puzzles that you can do you cannot
get any kind of hint apart from the complete answer. Janet

RE: The seeing AI app (or similar) and displays on exercise machines

2017-10-27 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, you take a picture, but it is surprisingly quick compared to some apps.
For things like digital displays, I have a thermostat that is about 3 inches by
4 inches and I held the camera about 5 or 6 inches from it and it worked very
well.
The clocks I have tried it on I was a bit further away and it got it on the
first or in one case, second try.
If you are two close, it will tell you it looks like a close up of a clock.
I have not tried it on a page of text, but it did very well on a box.

Again, it is very new and they want feedback to figure out what they need to
improve and what is working.

Ok, thanks. I'd just heard of envision AI while browsing email this

realtime? or, are you required to take a picture as you would with say

2017-10-27 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Richard,

I tried the new Emvision app on my big digital clock with about two inch high
numbers and got it to read it after a few tries. I tried it on my thermostat
and it did not read the digitals numbers. I also tried Seeing Ai and it did not
read any digital numbers on my thermostat or digital clock. I like the Seeing
Ai app very much for reading text documents and product codes. As far as the
Emvision app I am not impress so far but have not use it much at all to really
give it a rating.

If Seeing AI doesn't do it, try the new Envision AI.

It has a button to read text and it reads my Honeywell thermostat very nicely
which is probably a similar digital display. The app is free.

RE: Chrome Cast [was "Re: A couple of iPhone questions"]

2017-10-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
All the information is on the Sonos website. It’s basically exactly identical
to a Play 1 but it has the microphones which allow you to speak to it after you
have set up Amazon Alexa. You first have to figure out if Amazon Alexa is
available which I am pretty sure it is not officially and if you can get around
this and use it anyways. I know here in Canada people do use it even though
even here it is not yet officially available. Apparently it might be coming
soon here, but who knows.
At some point during 2018 Sonos will add/enable the Google Assistant as well
and this might be more widely available, it is already here in Canada even
though Google came out way later with it than Amazon did with the Echo/Alexa.
In the US the Sonos 1 costs the same as a Play 1 and I assume it may replace
the Play 1 (if you don’t want voice assistants you just don’t have to set it
up) so that is $199 USD.
Here in Canada it is available now (as of October 24) and it costs $249 here
which is pretty much the exchange rate difference which currently is about
$1.20 CAD for 1 USD, multiply $200 by $1.20 and you get $240 so it’s pretty
close.

hello Sieghard
Very interesting. Do you perhaps have a link where I can read more about the
Sonos 1. I wonder when wil it be available here in SA and what the price would
be due to our bad exchange rate? Perhaps you know the dollar price? My son goes
to Germany from time to time and for example, he purchased me an apple watch
for far les that what people pay here in SA.

Certainly true, but it depends on what you want to accomplish, whether you have
2 or 3 stereos kicking around (I guess you could buy a bunch of powered
computer speakers), how much convenience you want and ultimately what your
budget allows.
If you have two systems you really like then the Chromecast method is worth
considering and may work perfectly well for you.
If you want to upgrade to something more modern, something which is expandable
and now with the Sonos 1 speaker something which gives you access to several
voice assistants (when they are done with what they are doing) then Sonos is
still the system of choice in my opinion. With Sonos you also don’t use your
phone’s resources, you simply use the phone and Sonos app as a remote control.
You get access to just about every music service there is including Apple Music
and the sound quality is awesome.
The new Sonos 1 speaker is available now and fully supports Alexa, the Google
Assistant will be added I think in early 2018 and I assume they will also
integrate Cortana since Microsoft certainly is going the third-party route.
SIRI will take longer, but it

the voice assistants will not work here because they require a speaker with
microphones and this is simply a hardware constraint. I also assume that the
Sonos 1 is just the start and that a Sonos 3 and Sonos 5 or whatever they will
be called are following to give customers the full choice of speaker quality
and still include voice assistants. In some cases I have bought new technology
when it comes out, but I’m glad I was reluctant to jump onto the smart speaker
train because I’d kick myself if I had bought a Amazon Echo and/or Google Home
speaker where now I can buy a Sonos 1 which can do them all.
The Sonos 1 by the way also supports Airplay 2 so even if you already have a
bunch of older equipment adding one of them allows you to Airplay to any of
your Sonos speakers since that is how Sonos works.

Sieghard

You are right. You do need two Chromecasts. But the chrome cast audio cost
something like $30, maybe less if you find a deal. That's still way cheaper
than spending a bunch of money on Sonos speakers, for example

I agree, Dave, I look at my iPhone not so much as a tool but as the toolbox and
while more tools are not necessarily useful certainly the right tools are a
good thing and in some cases having a few tools (apps) to accomplish more or
less the same thing then I’m all for it.

remember, this is a very new app, and won’t be up to the standard of seeing AI

Also, there is still a lot of us, who can’t get the seeing AI app.

I hope this app doesn’t go away, as the more choice, and competition out there
the better.

the app is free, and the more of us, who get behind it, and send in

Excuse any mistakes, as i have just woken up, and have a headache of headaches!

A New iPhone app.

Envision AI

https://www.applevis.com/forum/ios-ios-app-discussion/introducing-envision-ai-new-ios-app-help-blind-identify-text-objects

Hi,

My name is Karthik and I have been working with visually impaired users in the
Netherlands for the past year to understand ways of enabling independence. In
that process, I did a deep dive into artificial intelligence and how it can be
a helpful tool for processing and conveying visual information. I found that
most of what was in the market were simple object recognition apps that were
not very practical to use.

Hence, we built an app called Envision AI, that takes a context-based approach
to this problem. Our app can be currently used to:

- Recognise and read texts in their native dialect.
- Explain scenes that camera captures in detail.
- Train and recognise faces of your friends and family.
- Train and recognise your personal objects like wallet, keys or glasses.
- Do context-based recognition, that is, taking a picture of a clock will tell
you the time, taking a picture of a window will tell you the weather outside,
etc.

The app is still a beta, but available worldwide. We are constantly trying to
understand what features are the most important and valuable and how we can
continually improve them. So we would really love it if the community here can
give the app a try and provide us with active feedback on what they think of it
and how it can be improved.

P.S. We understand that we will immediately be compared to Seeing AI and other
apps out there. What we can assure you is we are really committed to listening
to the community here and work with them to build an app that really really
helps them. We are working on this full-time and will be here every day to talk
to you.

Sending IMessages

2017-10-27 Thread Keao Wright
Hi,
I don’t know why this keeps happening, but sometimes when I send a message to
someone they don’t get it when I see delivered.
Is it because of the IOS or the connection?

It has a button to read text and it reads my Honeywell thermostat very nicely

Latest Publix App Update

Hi All,

I recently updated to the latest version of the Publix app, and so far, it

If anyone has been able to get this to work, I would love to hear how.
Otherwise, if others use this app, I would think twice before updating it.

could someone please tell me why sometimes when I am sharing a link in a

Sonos 1. I wonder when wil it be available here in SA and what the price would

SIRI will take longer, but it is my guess that in 2 to 5 years SIRI will also
be available and with the software updates Sonos releases your speakers are
very future proof. A lot of my equipment is now 8 years old and it is still
fully supported with all updates and features, of course the voice assistants
will not work here because they require a speaker with microphones and this is
simply a hardware constraint. I also assume that the Sonos 1 is just the start
and that a Sonos 3 and Sonos 5 or whatever they will be called are following to
give customers the full choice of speaker quality and still include voice
assistants. In some cases I have bought new technology when it comes out, but
I’m glad I was reluctant to jump onto the smart speaker train because I’d kick
myself if I had bought a Amazon Echo and/or Google Home speaker where now I can
buy a Sonos 1 which can do them all.

That's still way cheaper
than spending a bunch of money on Sonos speakers, for example

one was connected to each stereo that maybe you can group them, but it is my
understanding that the Chromecast needs to be physically connected to the
stereo where you are streaming/casting the music.

Fanus, as for why they make an audio and a video version it is simple. The
audio only Chromecast plugs into a 3.5mm port so you can connect it to any
powered speaker which has a 3.5mm input port and you can easily connect it to
an older analogue stereo with a 3.5mm to RCA cable. The video version, either
the regular Chromecast or the Chromecast Ultra which supports 4K streaming only
have HDMI ports so unless you have a newer receiver with HDMI inputs this one
wouldn’t work for just music/audio on a system where HDMI is not available.

If you don't care about video, the chrome cast audio is cheaper. You can

Re: A new iPhone app

2017-10-27 Thread Dave
Hi Sieghard,

remember, this is a very new app, and won’t be up to the standard of seeing AI
as yet.

Also, there is still a lot of us, who can’t get the seeing AI app.

I hope this app doesn’t go away, as the more choice, and competition out there
the better.

the app is free, and the more of us, who get behind it, and send in
constructive information the better.

Excuse any mistakes, as i have just woken up, and have a headache of headaches!

Dave.

I wonder how they fund their time and expenses. Wouldn’t be the first time a
developer came up with something pretty amazing and then after a while it went
away. It will be interesting to try it out, though, and to hear the feedback
from others as well as the comparisons to Seeing AI. After all, there are a
number of ways to skin a cat so let’s see how these two apps compare.

Regards,

Sieghard

What we can assure you is we are really committed to listening
to the community here and work with them to build an app that really really
helps them. We are working on this full-time and will be here every day to talk
to you.
