2017-12-16 Thread Apple Nerd
Hi all,
I just received some new headphones and it comes with an app I have to
download.
I'm having a hard time getting SeeingAI to recognize the whole instructions.

I shouldn't speak about this without trying it, but with all of the variables
involved in handwriting, I can't imagine being able to trust this capability.
It seems like a kind of parlar game, but i hope that I'm wrong.

I attempted to read a Christmas card and couldn’t get it to read for me. I
used the scan stand so that I could make sure I put the camera and document
straight also. I did have it on the handwriting channel.

I am quite upset with the app Sero. I say this, because I actually started
paying the six dollars or 599 that they charge for a monthly subscription last
month. I went in there today to see if there were any new movies that I wanted
to watch, and was told my free trial was over. I find this extremely
interesting, when in fact I am paying a monthly subscription. Really weird is
it not?

Subject: unable to open links in Tweets on the latest Twitter app for iOS 7.14

Hello,
I am using an iPhone6s with iOS 11.2.1 and VoiceOver. When I am in the Twitter
app, I notice that now I am not able to open links that have been sent in
tweets.
To reproduce this issue I do the following:
1. Find a tweet that has a link in it.
2. Double tap on the tweet to select it this should say home back button.
3. Double tap on the Tweet itself which until today was opening up the link
that I could read within the Twitter app. Previously I was also able to find
the link within the tweet itself and double tap on this as well but it seems
that in both cases the functionality is gone.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue and have a work around?
Thank you in advance for any responses

Re: iphone, audio description, movies

2017-12-16 Thread Andy Baracco
This is an example of something that works better in theory than in
practice. I live in an area that supposedly has several theatres that are
equipped with the audio description technology, but in practice the
equipment is not well maintained and the theatre employees, who are often
teen agers, are either not trained on the use of the equipment, or simply
forget about it because there are so few requests for it. in my experience,
more often than not, the system may not be turned on for the film you want
to view, or the headsets may have dead batteries, or some other issue, or
they may give you the headset for amplification rather than the one for
description. This often requires multiple trips back to the customer service
desk after the movie has started. There is often nothing that can be done
once the movie has started, so you end up without description. If the
theatre management is on its game, they may offer you a refund or a pass for
future use, but that doesn't compensate you for the time and expense it may
have taken to get to and from the theatre, only to end up with an
undesirable experience. There have been multiple legal settlements between
AMC Theatres and organizations of the blind, but in large part, these issues
still exist.

Gianni,

Are you in the United States? If so, the big movie theater chains
have all of the screens in their theaters equipped with the technology
for audio description. At the theaters in my area, they will be happy
to provide a headset and receiver.

It seems like a kind of parlar game, but i hope that I'm wrong.

unable to open links in Tweets on the latest Twitter app for iOS 7.14

2017-12-16 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am using an iPhone6s with iOS 11.2.1 and VoiceOver. When I am in the
Twitter app, I notice that now I am not able to open links that have
been sent in tweets.
To reproduce this issue I do the following:
1. Find a tweet that has a link in it.
2. Double tap on the tweet to select it this should say home back button.
3. Double tap on the Tweet itself which until today was opening up the
link that I could read within the Twitter app. Previously I was also
able to find the link within the tweet itself and double tap on this
as well but it seems that in both cases the functionality is gone.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue and have a work around?
Thank you in advance for any responses

Louise,

I'm in the UK and, if you get to talk to them and you can do it, I'd really
like to know of other shipping options, but their web site (perhaps because
they haven't yet got any) doesn't have a link (ikt seems) when I read the word
"here" on their page.

If anyone actually has one, I'd really like to know how it does with patterned
items, since these almost always cause problems, but I am keen to get a better
one than I have so would appreciate all feedback.

Thanks.

As I have not seen any comments on the list regarding this question I thought I
would put it forward for general consideration.

There is probably a good reason for there not being, but I wonder why there is
no camera guidance in the handwriting channel of Seeing AI?

Re: Problem with the latest you tube iOS update

2017-12-16 Thread Shai
Hello Kimber,
Yes, I am experiencing the same issue. I like you wish that collapsing
the video would stop playback or there was a setting that one could
change but I did not seem to find one. One can keep searching for a
video of the same result before collapsing a video while the current
video is still playing.

Gianni,

Are you in the United States? If so, the big movie theater chains
have all of the screens in their theaters equipped with the technology
for audio description. At the theaters in my area, they will be happy

Subject: Problem with the latest you tube iOS update

I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior with the latest you tube
update. With a video playing, when I tap the collapse video button the play
doesn't stop. In order to stop play I have to perform either a two finger
double tap or locate the pause button and double tap it. So I guess the
bottomline is the collapse button isn't working. I'm running the latest iOS on
an iPhone 7.

Re: Problem with the latest you tube iOS update

2017-12-16 Thread Donna
Yes I've noticed this as well. No deal breaker being 1 swipe from left to right
puts focus on the pause/play button. Also the advantage of the video continuing
to play is that I can listen while searching the list of results for the next
video.

Hi rebecca,

Just tried my seeing AI, with a christmas card, and the hand writing channel,
and it did really well.

I don’t use a stand, just held the phone, about 12 inches or so above the card.

used the scan stand so that I could make sure I put the camera and document

As a work around for the Publix app, especially since the main thing I want is
the weekly ad, I put the following link on my home screen and use it to read
the weekly ad.

http://www.southernsavers.com/publix-
It is a website called Southern Savers and when you go down several times by
heading you just click on the date for the ad and then you can navigate by
heading through every item in a list. The items also include which current
coupons apply to each item but if you navigate by headings it skips that info.
If you happen to be into coupons it lets you know which newspaper and online
coupons apply to the items.
What is especially nice is that you don't have to wait until the ad is on the
Publix app active to see it. They usually post the next week's ad either Monday
evening or Tuesday morning. So you can compare the current week's ad to the
next week's ad to see what might be going on sale a little earlier than on the
actual app.
I have used this site for years and it has ben safe and dependable.
It is easy to put the link on your home screen and just click on it to go .
right there each week to check it out.
I use it on my phone and also on my laptop.

RE: Publix App

2017-12-16 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Merv,

Mine became inaccessible after an update to the app a couple of months ago.
There was another update this last week which didn't fix the accessibility
issues. I don't even get any feedback from VoiceOver on the initial screen
that comes up when you launch the app.

I had written to Publix yesterday and got a response that the VoiceOver issues
should be fixed by the end of January. I guess we will see.

Re: hand writing recognition with seeing AI

2017-12-16 Thread Richard Turner

Hi Sandy,
What I've found is that you have to hold the phone higher from the document
than with other OCR apps. It is about 18 inches for me. And you have to hold
steady when it says to hold steady and it will automatically take the picture.
And, yes, the handwriting recognition is amazing!

RE: rainbow II color identifier now available

2017-12-16 Thread Louise Peyton
Hello:
When I use the rainbow Ii color identifier, I need to move it around the
clothing item if it’s multi colored. It will identify each color in the
pattern. I don’t find it much different than the Cobal speech master except
for the smaller size of the Rainbow II. It performs just as well as other
identifiers.
Hope that helps.

I'm in the UK and, if you get to talk to them and you can do it, I'd really
like to know of other shipping options, but their web site (perhaps because
they haven't yet got any) doesn't have a link (ikt seems) when I read the word

If anyone actually has one, I'd really like to know how it does with patterned
items, since these almost always cause problems, but I am keen to get a better
one than I have so would appreciate all feedback.

Good morning,

I am attempting to change over to the apple computers.

I have a laptop that I am trying to learn, but I can't find a podcast that
can teach me how to use it with VO.

Any suggestions?

Please email off list if this is OT.

Thanks, and I'm sorry if its OT.

Re: Siri is still pretty stupid

2017-12-16 Thread Sadam Ahmed

I recently got the Google Home mini.

The Google assistant on my mini and Android device totally trashes Siri.

Enough said from my end as the thread is moving off topic.

All I'll say is Apple better step up their game, or they'll be overtaken
by Google.

At present, most assistants have this quirk when sometimes they know an answer

OT: RE: rainbow II color identifier now available

2017-12-16 Thread 'Martin Maidment' via VIPhone
Hi Carole

I’m not sure how good this is on patterns but I will say it is a lot better
than the one we can get in the U.K.

If you ring them they will send you a PayPal invoice for payment.

It roughly costs £65. Becarefull because customs stung me for £20 but somebody
on this list told me as it’s a product for the blind I should not have been
charged.

It maybe worth trying the colour ID on seeing ai. It looks pretty good.

Thanks.
