Re: Messaging Apps with Auto-Responder

2018-02-05 Thread Shai
Hello Richard,
To my knowledge, there is no app of this kind as Apple will not allow
this functionality.
You could however go to settings/general/keyboard and create a
memorable keyboard shortcut that will enable you to type it in a
message and send it out.

2018-02-05 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jewel,

I don't know all the spelling configurations you've tried, so please forgive
me if what I'm suggesting has been tried & failed. Have you tried spelling
chess by putting an, h, between the, e, & first, s, ?
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Voice-over, Karen in particular, is pretty good at pronouncing words, but I
have told you that no matter what method I use, I cannot get her to say
chess. It always comes out as Chiss.
However, having said that, someone, Richard perhaps, said that Karen
enhanced. when he challenged her did say chess. When I looked at
settings/voice-over etc, I was told that it was Karen, but whether it was
Karen enhanced or Karen un..., I was not told.
Now, pressing forward, when I am playing the word game, "Seven Little Words"
from time to time, she will spell a word rather than saying it.
An example is arctic: a r c t i c.
I went to settings/voice-over/pronunciation" and typed in a r c t i c, and
then dictated arctic. When I tapped play, arctic was said, but when I
checked it in the solutions column of SLW, it was still a r c t i c.
Of course, the a r c t i c is not going to melt any faster than it is now if
she continues to spell it, but it would be a feather in my cap, if I could
persuade her that arctic is the way to go!

RE: Skype

2018-02-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have an Officed 365 subscription which means I get 60 minutes of Skype
calling each month with my plan and I also still have a Germany subscription
which was paid for the entire year. I don’t think Microsoft should mess things
up to the point where the product is almost unuseable.
Anyhow, Ben, I have a 6S Plus. I’ll see, hopefully an update comes soon maybe
it works again then.

Hi,

Anyone who uses Skype? I don’t use it often, but today when I wanted to use it
the app opened. Then it crashed and I was able to open it once afterwards, now
it crashes each time I try to open it back to the home screen.
I unloaded all apps, I rebooted the phone and I even deleted the app and
redownloaded it, it still crashes.
I must say this thing annoys me no end lately. I mostly use it for calls to
landlines and cell phones in Germany, their subscription which I think gives me
400 minutes a month (way more than I need) is really quite cheap..

Re: Getting ringtones

2018-02-05 Thread Richard Turner

Are those instructions for iTunes 12.whatever is the latest? I don't think it
works quite like that now.
You connect your phone, select it, tab to summary, type t o and tab to the list
of tones on your device and paste the new tones in there.
They will magically now be on your phone. No syncing required.
So, it may depend on which version of iTunes you are using.

Yes, you would need itunes to install them. after unzipping the folder you
can copy the folder and paste it into the itunes window.then connect your
phone, press f6 until you hear 'search' then tab to 'iphone' and press
space.
Now tab to 'summary treeview'.
type t o for tones
tab and check the box for adding tones
note: you will get a warning choose yes.
tab to apply or sync

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, where is a good place to get ringtones from, that will
work on the iPhone?

Free would be nice, but finding reasonably priced ones would also work.

Once I find ringtones, how do I go about getting them on to my phone?

I take it that I would have to use iTunes for this?

Any help would be awesome!

Thank you,

Re: pinch gesture for editing?

2018-02-05 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Jen,

If you go to the VoiceOver settings and in the roter, there is an option for
text selection. Put that in there. Now go to the place you want to select text.
Now use the roter and go to text selection. Now flick up or down to get to the
amount of selection that you want to select such as lines, words, characters
etc. Now flick right and you can select your text. The last thing you have to
do is use the roter again and go to edit and flick down to copy or cut. This is
a little more steps than the pinch gesture, but I could never get that gesture
to work properly for me. If you want to pinch, pinch out to select and pinch in
to deselect.

Re: Setting Auto-Lock to Never

2018-02-05 Thread Richard Turner

On my iPhone SE running iOS 11.2.5, never is still an option.
If it is a phone managed by your work, that could be unavailable. My work
iPhone cannot be set to never.
If it is your private phone, I would reboot it.

Saving Pictures

2018-02-05 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

We're using SE iPhones running iOS 10.33. My sister in law sent my wife
several pictures attached to text messages, if this is the correct term.
How do I save only the pictures & not the text messages? Also, how do I
then move the pictures to her laptop computer after they have been saved?
All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks muchh.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Re: Six Dot Braille Question

2018-02-05 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello Lynn,

Are you writing on a braille display or using the onscreen braille keyboard?
You can change the defaults for both in Braille Settings in VoiceOVer SEttings.
 If you're using a display, use dots 2-3-6-chord (a low-cell 8) to toggle
between contracted, six-dot, and eight-dot braille. If you're using the
onscreen keyboard, flick left or right with three fingers to switch between
contracted and six-dot braille.

Best,
Anna

Six Dot Braille Question

2018-02-05 Thread Lynn White

Sent from my iPhoneI have been humming right along writing in Grade 2 braille
until a couple of days ago and now I get a notice on the rotor screen that I am
in sic dot braille mode.

I’ve checked the rotor settings and everything is set to contracted braille.
But I still am unable to write. In my favorite mode. Thanks for any ideas that
will fix this once and for all.

Re: Screen Recording

2018-02-05 Thread Richard Turner

Hi Sandy,
If you were wanting to do a tutorial on how to use a particular feature or app
on an iDevice, you could use screen recording so the person could both see and
hear what you are doing.
I suppose it could also be used to show someone what is not working, like a
developer?

Very, very interesting.

We should all report this.

Sieghard, I received the screen recording you sent, off-list.

It’s getting so that I am becoming afraid of upgrading to even a small release

This is a bug, when iOS 11 was first released Voiceover came through the

I noticed it as well a couple of weeks ago. I was going to send a message to

is no longer possible.

Hi,
I just tried it on my iPhone 6S. The VoiceOver volume returned to normal after
stopping the recording and then playing it back.
Now, if you mean the VoiceOver volume on the recording, it is very quiet
because it is in the earpiece during recording.
If you intend to have the screen recording include what VoiceOver is saying,
then you would probably need an external speaker.
I am not sure if there is a setting to have VoiceOver come over the speaker
during recording.

Re: best braille display foor ios and bluetooth

2018-02-05 Thread englishrider91
In regular, 6-dot Braille, before the switch to UEB, dots 4-6 together would
mean whatever word you were writing next was either Italicized, bolded, or
underlined. If you were doing this to more than 3 words in a row, you'd put
dots 4-6 twice before the first word, then once before the last word. To
capitalize something, you just put a dot 6 in front of it.

Thanks,
Ari

Hey, that's an absolutely fantastic idea! And you could probably make it even
better by sewing it to fit over the entire unit like a shower cap, so nothing
gets dirty--not just the Braille cells. My sister- in-law sews; maybe I'll ask
her to whip me up some covers for my BrailleNote PK, BrailleSense Polaris, and
my Brailliant BI 32. Thanks for the awesome idea! HIMS used to make a cover
like that which you'd get with your BrailleSense, but they no longer make one
for the Polaris, which is a shame, considering how expensive these devices are.

Thanks,
