Yeah it's messed up on their website as well. Maybe they will fix it

RE: VO Not speaking When Earphones Not Plugged In

2018-02-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Getting Voiceover to read continuously is actually not necessary, as long as
you can unlock your phone pressing the volume up button will do the trick. Just
make sure you press it, let go, press it, let go etc. Pressing and holding it
will not raise the volume, you have to press it like 10 or 12 times.

Thanks so much for this too. I kept trying to increase the volume without it
going passed a very low volume. Your tip worked beautifully.

Hi Vivian,

Please try the following:
One. Navigate over to your home screen. Then, be sure to unplug your headphones.
Two. Flick or swipe up with two fingers to make VoiceOver start reading all the
elements on the screen.
Three now, start pushing the volume up button and you should slowly start to
hear the voice reading the elements and that should fix your issue.
Hope that helps.

When VO is supposed to be talking through the speaker, press the up volume

Hi All,

I am using an iPhone 7 and OS 10.32.

Does anyone know a solution to VO not speaking unless headphones are plugged
in? This started yesterday afternoon and was never an issue before.

Things that I have tried include:

Shutting down the phone and powering back up.

Going through Settings and turning VO off and back on.

Turning Siri off and back on.

Fully charging the phone overnight.

VO works just fine with headphones attached.

Siri works just fine with and without headphones plugged in.

I’m not even able to update to 11 as I need to have the headphones plugged in
to use VO and, as far as I know, it is recommended to have the phone plugged
into power when installing the update.

I will try to get to the Apple store today as I’m where there is one. Once I
leave here tomorrow morning, I won’t have access to an Apple Store. Of course
there are no available appointments at the Geneous Bar.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know why it is doing this, quite honestly, I figured it was just my
iPhone 6, it is getting old. But when it does it, take it away from your ear,
and if I can use this word in conjunction with a phone, caress the place that
goes against your ear a couple times quickly, and it will force the sensor that
is supposed to sense that the phone is against your ear to switch back to the
earpiece, and it should stay this time. I'm about to the point of doing this
caress before I even put it to my ear the first time, hoping it won't do that
switching in the middle of a call. I have more of a problem having it not
switch to the earpiece in the beginning.

RE: VO Not speaking When Earphones Not Plugged In

2018-02-25 Thread ndagostino3
Hi:

You should look at audio rooting in settings, I am not sure that will help but
it is worth a try.

Have a good day.

Arnold,

I thought I tried that but apparently not enough. I can finally hear VO but
not very loud. At least I know I may not need to visit the Apple store after
all.

I will go and see if I can change the volume more but at least I know VO works
without using the headset.

Thanks so much for your suggestion.

Most times I love my iPhone but more and more it’s bugging me too.

The volume of VO through the speaker and headphones are two separate settings.
When VO is supposed to be talking through the speaker, press the up volume
button several times to see if you can begin to hear it. Sometimes, the speaker
volume gets turned down for no apparent reason.

Thanks so much for this too. I kept trying to increase the volume without it
going passed a very low volume. Your tip worked beautifully.

This is a terrific group.

You may want to check the VO volume setting itself, but also under settings,

Man Studied Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze for an Entire Year to Determine Which Is the Best, Travel + Leisure

2018-02-25 Thread M. Taylor
Man Studied Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze for an Entire Year to Determine
Which Is the Best

Most people have their preferred popular navigation app, whether it's Google
Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze. But which is actually the best at getting you to
your destination?
To put the navigation apps to the test, one man spent a year measuring
estimated driving times for each app, departure and arrival time, traffic
conditions, as well as other factors, the Daily Mail reported. After 120
trips, he found that Google Maps was the app that got him to his
destinations the quickest.
Arthur Grabowski wrote about his findings on his blog, and he didn't stop at
simple speed tests. Even though Google was found to be quick, it was Apple
Maps that turned out to be the most accurate. This could come as a surprise
to many, since when Apple Maps was first released, it was widely criticized
for its inaccuracy, and has yet to shake its reputation. Apple Maps gave
8-percent longer trip times but overall, compared to Google, Grabowski
usually arrived 1-percent faster than estimated.
"In other words, Apple sandbags its estimates so that users on average
arrive ... slightly sooner," Grabowski wrote. So Apple users will always be
pleasantly surprised on their trips, or at least rarely be late for a
meeting.
Google Maps, even though it won out in the app race, was not always on the
mark. In general, Grabowski found it was 2-percent slower than its average
estimated trip time on average. Not far off in terms of accuracy, but less
accurate nonetheless.
Waze promised speedy travel times - about 3-percent faster than Google's
estimates - but didn't deliver when put to practical use. Overall, Waze had
slower-than-expected arrival times 11 percent of the time.
"If the estimated trip times consistently predicted actual driving time,
Waze would be my preferred navigation app," Grabowski wrote.

The volume of VO through the speaker and headphones are two separate settings.
When VO is supposed to be talking through the speaker, press the up volume
button several times to see if you can begin to hear it. Sometimes, the speaker
volume gets turned down for no apparent reason.

VO Not speaking When Earphones Not Plugged In

2018-02-25 Thread Vivian Conger

My iPhone 8 does it too, and it is really loud! I have a case on the back and
sides of the phone but nothing on the front. Pressing the power button usually
switches it back to the earpiece.

What is the name of this word finder app? I've searched the app store for word
